I'm just wondering for input here...Once I beat episode 1 (which may be a while yet...) should I bother even playing episode 2? All I've heard on it is that it's bad all around...I'm wondering if I should just look up what happens so far as the story on wiki or something after I beat the first and then play the 3rd game, since that one seemingly is the best (from what I've heard). So, yeah...I looked up pics on Ep. 2 and I think they butchered the characters...KOS-MOS looks ugly, and Shion looks messed up. Anybody have advice for me...?

I think people tend to overreact about Xenosaga Episode 2.
I played the first disc of Xenosaga 2, and nothing bad about it so far. But I heard it was mostly the second disc, where the battle system could get tedious (although so far I liked it). It's worth playing for the story. But the new voice actors ruins the atmosphere a bit. Not all of them got new voice actors, but most of them did. In Epi 3 things are back to normal again.
Also, you'll probably want to transfer your save data from Epi 1 to Epi 2 and to Epi 3 after that, for bonus items and other things.

Yeah, I would just suffer through it if I were you (just kidding, its not that bad) although a few parts gave me some trouble, but honestly, understanding the amazing story is worth playing episode II for, where they did indeed make KOS MOS look ugly and ruined a lot of voices.

Well, I guess I could just turn the volume on my tv off if the voice acting gets too bad...then I'll be able to transfer save data, because I usually like to do the 'extras' and stuff, so I guess I'm leaning towards getting the game after all...Thanks guys for your input

of course play the damn game I mean if you don't you'll miss some story, so just do and get it over with.

play it, you never know, you may love it. You will never know until you play it, plus you will miss too much story if you skip 2 and got straight to 3.. so yes play it and go into playing it with a good attitude..
plus, you can pick up the game for like 10 american greens, so its not like your having to take out a loan to purchase it

Yup, I'm gonna play this game...if I didn't, I would just look it up on Wikipedia to get the story, but I've scratched that idea. Thank you for your opinions guys

Woot! You've made the right decision! With a story as in depth as Xenosaga (which always has little details that you are bound to miss) reading up on it just isn't enough. The game isn't that bad, especially if you already have a low opinion of it. It features heavily on Jr which could be a good or a bad thing and as long as you accept now that the Shion in Episode I is dead and they replaced her with a completly new character also named Shion then your good to go.

The only extra thing you get by loading the clear data in Episode III is Shion's Vector outfit (from Episode I). Not bad, but not as great as carrying over bonus skill points at the start of the game, like they did in Episode II (based on the characters' levels at the end of the previous game).

You have to get the whole story I say.

It was the 2nd disc. Believe it or not. Xenosaga Episode 2 was not that bad. I would say it was part 2 that annoyed me. Also, I believe if you bought the PSM magazine I forgot which month it has saved data from one to transfer to two.

The Namco Trasmission disk that came with Soul Calibur 3 also carries the Clear Data from Episode 1. It has characters in around Level 50 on there too, so it gives you about 3000 skill points.

Well...I'm super late on this. I don't like Episode II's battle system at all but it's has Albedo making a pretty good attempt at being the baddass villain in the RPG universe. The URTV story arc is the best thing going for that game and worth enduring the stupidass battle system.

I've seen my fair share of bad battle systems, so I'm prepared to put up with another one as long as the story is good. Thanks for the input!

I'm personally on the same boat as Dragon Brigade. Loved the first Xenosaga game, but I played it years ago, so when I tried playing the second one three years after I just couldn't get into it, mainly because I could not remember a damn thing from the first game, not to mention that I hate the realistic character style as well; I was already into the anime look so the change annoyed me. I also heard that it was a dissapointing game overall for other Xenosaga fans, so with all of that I just didn't care to continue the sag- oh yeah...trilogy.
There is only one reason why I am starting the series over again and willing to go through Episode II, and that is because Episode III apparently redeems itself and seems to have a few Xenogears references thrown in as well, so I'll go through Episode II now even if I find it to be complete crap. My question is though, does Shion really change as bad as you guys make it out to be? As I am replying the first game I remember why I liked her, mainly because of what someone said about breaking RPG traditions. She was a main female lead who was smart and strong enough to stand up on her own. I would be dissapointed if they changed her to a more sterotypical feminine character.

Well, to put it like this - Shion never becomes as emotionally strong as she was in epI ever again. As a huge fan her, I was a little dissappointed in her character in XSIII. But the situation called for it - you will see.

Well Dragon Brigade, in case you are still debating over if you should play this game, allow me to give my two cents since I'm about a good deal into it at the moment.
It's crap. It's total and utter crap. It's not just crap as a game, but also an insult to the first one. The voice acting is awful (the only exceptions being the same people who did the voices in episode I), the music is less then bland, the change of character designs just ruins the looks of some of them, villains will appear and then die without much of a story to them and the plot seems to hold no clear unity to all the events that go on once disc two starts. I would consider the battles system to be a bit of a step up in some areas, but over all it starts to become tedious since ENEMIES HAVE WAY TOO MUCH HP! Seriously, battles take way too long to drag through. Oh, and don't expect too much character development. (Excempt for Jr., who actually isn't ruined in the second game).
Oh, may I add, when I say I'm good deal into it I mean 14 hours, and already I'm only 2 dungeons away to the final area. I was done disc 1 in less then 8 hours; it really only has one dungeon to play through. Granted, I'm not doing any of the side quests, but that's because I just want to complete this game as fast as possible. I guess there is a lot more to uncover if you decide to take the time to do them.
Honestly, don't feel ashamed if you were to skip this game and just read a summary, don't feel ashamed at all. The only reason you would want to play it is just to see what happens between the two games, not because its any fun. I feel sorry for Europe, since this was the first game in the series they got. It just totally misses the mark of what made the first one so good.

Yes, Vilagen, I'm still debating playing this one. I haven't beaten the first one yet, but I don't want to waste time playing a game that's made out to be garbage. I'm still debating though...Maybe I will just read a summary and go on to the third, or I'll play it and give it at least a chance...

I think it is better to try something out rather than let others opinion influence your decision on playing something. But it in the case of Xenosaga II, well the whole world hates the game.
I have a thread on the game when I was seriously playing it up to the Omega System.
http://www.rpgdreamersforum.com/index.php?...t=0&start=0Should have some details on plot of the game..
If anything though, it's worth playing just for Rubedo and Albedo's storyarc which IMO is best arc in the series.

Yes, I generally try and stay open minded, but sometimes I hear such bad things about a game it just doesn't help any. But actually, the more I've heard here, the more I want to play it. If anything, like you said, just to give a whack at it to see if I like it. If I dont', I'll just drop it and move on (Like I've said countless times already). So, thanks to all for the opinions people. And now, a month later from the original post date, my final verdict is that I'll try this game out^_^
