Full Version: E-For All Expo to Replace E3

The Evil Dead
IDG Publications ( Gamepro, Macworld ) have decided to create an electronics expo of their own... That's open to the entire public. Apparently capitalizing on the fall of E3 and the fact that Joe Blow has been wanting to go to such an expo without having to be invited for years, IDG has created the E-For All Expo which is basically goin to be E3 for the public.

One hundred dollars gets you three days access to all events being held ( Details haven't really been given yet ) but I think that it's totally worth it to see such a huge expo. The first year may be kinda rough, but as developers and companies catch on that this is a great way to expose their products to the public moreso than before.

I think that it's great that they're offering this sort of thing now that E3 is gone. Allowing the public to purchase tickets to the events not only makes it profitable for those behind the project, but they won't have to rely strictly on the money of those who are showing their products at the show.

Plus I believe that developers will catch on and this will become every bit as big as E3 was each year, if not larger.

Anyway, here's the article...

‘GamePro Expo’ Gets Final Name, Price
By Kris Graft

ImageThe event is headed up by former E3 organizer Mary Dolaher, who now works for IDG World Expo as executive VP. She says that the event will be beneficial to both consumers and participating game companies.

“For companies that produce and develop games, interactive toys, and all things related, our goal is that 'E for All' will foster promotional and relationship-building opportunities that only face-to-face contact can create,” says Dolaher.

As a consumer-focused expo, E for All will be open to the public at a fee of $100 per ticket for full three-day access to the various events held at the expo, Dolaher confirmed to Next-Gen.

IDG World Expo organizes a variety of conferences and events, including Macworld Conference & Expo and LinuxWorld Conference & Expo.

Originally revealed as the “GamePro Expo,” event organizers at IDG World Expo decided to hold a public contest to name the show.

IDG chose “E for All Expo” out of over 3,000 suggestions taken during a contest at consumer gaming site GamePro.com. Dante Padre of California, who submitted the winning name, says the title reflects the open-to-all nature of the event.

Dolaher said that a couple of the losing entries included "Verge" and "Verge X," but E for All was the unanimous winner.

E for All will be held at the L.A.C.C. October 18-20, 2007, just as the holiday gift-buying season ramps up. Attendees will be able to buy exhibitors’ products from the show floor.

Dolaher wasn't yet ready to announce exactly which companies are participating as contracts are being worked out.

Other highlights at the event will include hands-on opportunities to try out the latest games and gadgets, videogame tourneys, a job fair and “family-friendly offerings.”

Video Games Live, a live performance of videogame music, will also be part of E for All. Dolaher said that other events held during the expo will be announced in the future.

E for All is endorsed by the Entertainment Software Association.

#####. Open public and at 100 bucks 3 day ticket? There is no way tickets are going to be that easy to score.

I am thinking about not going to Miami this easter and instead go to this thing. I have a friend who goes to UCLA and hopefully I can stay at her place. Or maybe I can do both.

The first year indeed might be rough but it beats watching all those media ##### at every E3 being dorks.

Ummm......Easter is in April, this takes place in October, so your plans may not happen....

but anyway, its nice to have a convention that the general public can go to (of course, this is one thing I will probably never get to go to) so hopefully that works out.

Yes, And i need a plane ticket for bot, its a matter of money spent not time. Either I go on spring break and waste money on booze and other stuff or I got to the gaming convention.

Why am i being so cheap, because i want to buy a ps3 at least by the end of this year and i also need a new cheap HDTV because i need to exploit the power. So we are looking at about 1000 bucks plus games.

See?

Since the original E3 (that was almost entierly filled only with people from the industry) got extremely crowded and about as hot as the Fire Temple in Zelda, I wonder what it'll be like now when they sell tickets to the public as well? Perhaps the media coverage will be cut shorter to make room for public visitors?

Get drunk and possibly laid... or go to a gaming convention... yeah... tough choice there chief...

I don't have much of an oppinion on this... games magazines and games websites will still be able to get in one way or another and so it doesn't bother me (seeing as I'll never ever go... not with the lack of money I have). I think it's a good idea, but in the end it doesn't change anything for me...

I can do that here too, its just that, well its ##### South Beach if you havent gone there you just dont know. On the contrary, the closest thing to a gaming convention here is me bumping a friend who actually plays games which happens like...almost never.

I'd probably go to this if I lived in the US. I mean at least once in my life I would like to visit an E3 or something similar to it. But I most likely won't. Hope you manage to go there Raz. You can ask Sega to create another Dreamcast for you.

Paying 100 bucks, including flight ticket from Holland and probably a hotel and such, it is getting WAY too expensive for me and I doubt I will ever go.
Of course it is great that they finally are making something equal to the E3 and for the public aswell, but it is just too far away and too expensive for me to probably ever go.

I was checking American Airlines flights for the 7th and the tickets go for $546 round trip with a scale in Miami as I dont think AA goes straight from Nicaragua to LAX. I guess going across the pond comes to about twice more than that. We'll see how my economy works out.

That and the hotel I will have to stay in aswell, so it is a big sum in total and I will need that money for my study and such, even though I can fund it, I don't think it is very wise for me to go there, even though I really want to.
