Have some laughs, kill some time...
This topic may have come up here before, but my rules is if not on the first page, it's not here.
There's a good chance your favourite genre isn't there, I only added the main ones I could think of.
I'd like to think I'm pretty eclectic, I've got at least a couple of albums of everything on that list, and more besides. Anything from Dj Tiesto to Lifewish to Scribe to Bach to Paul Anka or anything in between I'll listen to.
What about you guys?

I'm mostly an indieeee whore. 8P Like, it doesn't even have to necessarily be indie rock, I've also liked a bit of indie folkish music and indie trancey music. But somehow it all just fits into indie genre. Which IS technically a genre, I'd like to think. D8
I also like very few alternative rock.

I mainly listen to acid house, breakbeat, big beat, electronica, and trance. So yeah basically some form of techno =p. On occasion I'll listen to anything from alternative rock, indie, classic rock, metal, funk, and jazz.

I usually listen to rock of some kind, anywhere between the Doors and Lamb of God, etc. Dunno why, but it just 'speaks' to me, ya know? I used to listen to country, then hip-hop/rap, but those just faded as i grew older. Metal, though, stuck with me and I can assure you I'll be a metal head 'til the grave. (I'll probably break my neck headbanging at shows

)

rock is the way to live it... lamb of god?? its timeless i never get tired of it...
i shall die rockin til the sun bleached my bones white
I'm into metal, I'm not inform enough or care enough to get into what sub-genre I'm into. I'm into classic rock, my dad listen to classic rock. J-pop, that's just about all the anime music I listen to, not to mention the majority of music I listen to.
In the end, I'm all over the place. I don't love a genre or define myself a huge fan of genre. Closest would be J-Pop, but even then, I don't follow J-Pop singers, I just follow which anime a certain theme song came from.
I'm trying to get into metal more. I've only listen to a handful of albums sent to me by TED and Vinsfeld. I would like to listen to more.

I love rock music, especially classic rock. You can't go wrong with Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, or AC/DC!

I guess " heavy metal " works but I listen to all sorts of metal.
That would be my primary genre, everything else in inferior.

I like rock bands like the Rasmus or the Offspring, especially Nightwish. I like musicals too, but it depends which they are, such as the Phantom of the Opera. I don't really like classical, even though that's what most of the rest of my family like. But yeah, rock is my main musical preference, but I have a few others^_^

Till a few years ago, I didn't listen to music at all. When I got into music, it was classical. ( Mostly Ravel). I listened only that for like a year or so, till I discovered AC/DC. They are my favourite band now btw.
Later, I also started listening video game music, and when I discovered about anime, I picked up their music aswell. Also, I'm sometimes listening to TV shows and movie soundtracks aswell.
Lately, I'm even listening to flamencos and fados.
The conclusion is that I don't have a favourite genre. I'm very spread out, but certainly there are certain genres which I dislike.
Mostly, I listen to the songs which catch my attention.
btw. I don't listen to popular music like stuff from MTV. I guess my tastes in music are not so spread out after all.

Man, I listen to too many different things. One moment, I'll be blasting Arsonists Get All The Girls (experimental hardcore/metal), the next, I'll be relaxing to some Ludovico Einaudi (classical), and the next, I'll be hanging around with some Rise Against and Bad Religion (both punk). I occasionally listen to some few rappers, such as Immortal Technique or Sage Francis, or even Eminem or DMX from time to time. (I don't like most of the more popular stuff out there, but I don't mind some of it.) I'm also an avid fan of plenty of video game and anime tunes, ranging from Nobuo Uematsu to Yoko Shimomura, from Yoko Kanno to Taku Iwasaki... I also dig a lot of the fan-made game remixes, found on sites like OverClocked Remix and VGMix. And, of course, I've been getting into a lot of Japanese music as well, mostly from anime, though some games as well. Stuff like Home Made Kazoku, Utada Hikaru, Yui, Gackt, Buck Tick, and a few others. Going back to the "heavier" side of the stuff I listen to, I'm also a fan of stuff like Alexisonfire, Entombed, Modern Life Is War, Comeback Kid, Crossbreed, The Kovenant, This Is Hell, Violent Work of Art, A Wilhelm Scream... That all includes some metal (I'm especially a fan of industrial metal), as well as some hardcore. Some of my favorite punk bands include Bad Religion, Social Distortion, Rise Against, Strike Anywhere, Authority Zero, and uh... plenty more. ^^; I'll occasionally listen to some ska, like Streetlight Manifesto or The Aquabats, as well. Not quite as often as other stuff, though. I've been listening to a lot of calmer stuff this year as well; Indie and the like. Stuff like Frou Frou and Imogen Heap, Coldplay, Bloc Party, Freezepop... I occasionally throw on some acoustic stuff as well, like City And Colour, Johnny Cash, Greg Graffin, and acoustic singles by other artists. The only genre in particular, that I can think of, that I'm not particularly fond of, is country. Country, bluegrass, and other similar genres. I don't particularly hate that kind of stuff, but it's just not for me. However, even with genres I'm not too fond of, I'll occasionally make exceptions.

Well, I'd just have to say it's a variety. I listen to rock, trance, some metal I suppose, and a lot of other things. A lot of my music is based on the music that is sent to me from Rhadamanthus and Wii. It all really depends on what I feel like listening to though.

I'm all over the place when it comes to music, but if I narrowed the genres on my playlist, I'd mostly have J-pop just because most of my English-voiced music are on CDs and I tend to listen to whatever is on my computer.
In general, I like to listen to J-pop/rock, Alternative rock, Indie rock, Ambient, Electro-pop, Electronica, RnB, Classical etc... whatever sounds distinctive and music to my ears xDD. The oly thing I don't like is Rap, RnB I can stand but I just don't like Rap music that "ghetto" people tend to be into and think is awesome x.x'.

I mainly listen to Indie/Indie Rock. It also most played on my playlist and most of my music on my computer is Indie, though there are a few OST's on aswell and some other random songs I downloaded and liked.
Though my taste is quite large and I could listen to basically everything, I prefer not to do so, but I can safely say that I know songs I like in a lot of genres of music, even genres such as Hip-Hop and Metal.

I am definately an Indie girl, as it takes up most of my playlist. I generally prefer Indie/Indie Rock over any other style, although I am open to other types of music and indeed have a wide variety from random game music I get sent, to orchestral, trance, some hip hop and even some arbic xD.
Though I will usually listen to anything suggested to me, I generally don't like rap or country music.

I tend not to get bogged down with genres. Really, its not important. I like songs track by track. I guess if you was to generalise my favourites would be electronica, chillout, trip hop, indie and rock, though I listen to many things from J-pop to punk, reggae, drum and bass, ska, metal, industrial, as well as dance/trance and synthpop. Anything goes. =D
I dont much care for rap, but again i'm speaking generally, there are some rap songs that kick ass.
At present, its psychadelic rock that is pwning my life, Porcupine Tree, RHCP and certain tracks by Kasabian, The Music etc etc. I've also been listening to a lot of synthpop lately, provided by Vinsfeld, such as Pride and Fall and Seabound. Good stuff.

People will kiill me for this. . . Techno. I'm drawn into it, but that really isn't the only genre I listen to. I listen to Reggae (only Bob Marley or his son Ziggy Marley) , some rock, only old school rap (Easy E, etc.), some old school R&B (such as the Jackson 5 and what not), Blues, and little jazz.
Everything else I either detest (Hip-Hop) or feel an indifference to.

I don't really care for genres myself, just use them to find new music is all.
And I listen to a lot of music, not enough to consider myself eclectic or even say "I have decent knowledge of music". (I'd actually say the opposite

)
But as far as genres go, I like Progressive Rock, Futurepop-style EBM,a lot of metal (progressive metal of course), and quite a few things in between, I guess. For better info, check my

My problem with the word techno is that its too vague, it really only means music made with technology but that tells you nothing about the music itself, and the different directions people have taken it in.
Juan Atkins came up with the word techno, he's a detroit producer but isn't that popular in the states and besides if you listen to his Model 500 material, especially the album Deep Space its very different from what most people associate with techno today. Hence Derrick May (another detroit producer) disliked the term, and prefers to call what they do "hi-tech soul" to maintain the connection with jazz, soul, funk and the like.

I agree entirely Rhadamanthus, genre is just a means to an end, finding new music and forming an opinion on it.

I used to listen to a lot of punk rock. In fact, I still do. But ever since playing that in a band, it seems really very boring. But other than that, I listen to some metal, classic rock, a bit of classical, and when I'm in the mood, I'll search myspace for some random jazz fusion.
As far as my music knowledge?
I'll put an N/A next to that.

DJ's such as Mauro Picotto, Sven Väth, DJ Luna, Umek, Ron van de Beuken, Dave Clarke and Yoji Biomehanika is what is considered Techno in Europe.
Europe doesn't define all electronical music as Techno, like it is done in the States.
