Lost Seraphim
My friend rented it and beat it in the matter of a weekend. I just watched, but it was short and satisfying to the most minimal sense, IMO. It felt a bit rushed, and some of the plot elements were questionable, but in the end, it's a fair game.

I'm guessing that it's better to rent this game then pay full price for it then? I personally prefer my games to last more than a weekend if I'm going to be spending a lot of money on them... Is there any replay value to this game?

I've been meaning to buy/rent it for a while but I've got more important purchases to make...
Tarock
It is worth a rent, especially if you liked FF7. But I have played better action games. Seriously the gameplay is crummy in terms of action shooting games. It lags when you shoot, not very fast paced.
the plot was intersting. I really enjoyed that aspect of the game. I wish they would have gone into more detail on it though.
Vincent looked cool, his transformations were cool, and the very final boss was awesome.
The voice acting was good. I loved vincents and yuffies voice. I would have liked to play as some of the other characters.
It did not take long to beat, which left me a bit disappointed.
It is an Ok game. Not great, not crummy, just ok.

Correction: A night. XD

Yeah, I rented it and enjoyed it very much. The story seemed pretty nice, and even built off of a handful of details from the original plot of FF VII. It was definitely nice to get some more development on Vincent's character as well, and I think DoC did a good job giving some closure to his story. The gameplay was fun, in my opinion, and the controls weren't very hard to get used to. The gun customization was fun to mess with, as well, though I found the machine gun to be somewhat useless for most of the game. *shrug* It was fun messing around with Galian Beast, and it certainly helped in boss fights and other situations. The graphics, as many pointed out, were great. Not just the FMV's (which were indeed amazing; Advent Children-quality), but the in-game graphics were nothing to be ashamed of, I thought. Everything seemed to run rather smoothly. Overall, I was a bit surprised with how much I enjoyed the game. Sure, it was short, but I thoroughly enjoyed those 12-13 or so hours of the game. (I was also renting Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria at the time, so I didn't bother with many extra missions. After I completed DoC, I pretty much put it away and started working on VP2.)

Oh yeah, I never really did figure out what those capsules were until I had already beaten the game. Haha. ^^; The game didn't have the manual with it, so I wasn't able to consult that, so I only shot a couple of them, thinking they were just quick saves or something. Wish I'd known earlier that they'd unlock things at the end of the game. >.O Would've also helped if they told you about them in the tutorials in the beginning as well, but I guess they wouldn't be very "secret" then...

Anyway, overall, yes, I found it to be a very enjoyable game, and in many ways. Due to its length, however, I'd probably only recommend renting it. After playing it through a rental, you can decide for yourself whether or not you think it's worth permanently adding to your collection. (Personally, I plan to buy it at some point, though it's not particularly a priority of mine. Someday, though.)

*sigh* If only that were to be true. In anycase the gameplay was just somke rehashed third person shooter, that allowed you to just jump a lil' bit higher. The Graphics in cut scenes were the best I've seen on the PS2, until FF XII came. Then DoC was just seconmd to that. In game graphics were just bad, it reminded way too much of Star Wars Bounty Hunter. None of the bosses were that hard, and the extras weren't really worth getting. Even the Extra Missions weren't that great. Considering that the enemies overpower your lvl. 1 self. The only saving grace that saved the game for me was the story, but then again I could always pop open a book. It would would have been nice if there was online gameplay, but that's only available in Japan I believe. In anycase it was quite enjoyable while it lasted, but in the end rent.

I bought the game two or three weeks before christmas too... I am playing since then but I haven't finished it yet, it's harder than the other Fantasies and soooo different, I can't say different better or worse because it's just great as the others.

It's good for you that you finished it in only three days, but for me I'd rather enjoy playing it more.

Well I personally never played it but I saw watched more than enough of my brother playing through it to give me the opinion that it sucks. I apparently missed some pieces of the storyline that was going on here and there, so I can't comment on that, but honestly, I could tell the gameplay was very simple and not original in anyway. I mean, from what I understand the whole doublejump and attacking in the air feature was actually something added to the English version, which doesn't give me a good impression. The game wasn't an RPG and because of that a good storyline is not enough to save what seems to be boring gameplay.

Yeah, I could just play my brother's copy and just beat it in a day or two, but I think I would go as far as playing through FFV instead, and that is saying something for me.

FFV is the FFX-2 of the early games... though maybe not so bad...

Yeah there were a couple of features added to the english version that the japanese don't have such as the double jump but from what I've heard from people who have played both versions, it doesn't improve the game enough. Still it was nice of Square to actually care about us, if only a little bit...

I agree that DoC shouldn't have been an RPG and having it an action game worked I think, but with Square's lack of experience it was never going to be a good venture... I've heard it's at least half-decent and that warrents enough for me to buy it when the price drops or rent it...
The Evil Dead
This game looked about as cool as having the entire Gackt collection on CD.

I played a bit of it at an EB way back in the day and wasn't all that impressed, plus all the negative reviews I read for the title kinda kept me from pursuing play with the title any further. It looked like a poor man's DMC, and that's mostly what the reviews I've read stated.

Also I didn't feel like sitting through a bunch of cutscenes to play an action title. I'll do that with an RPG, but most definitely not while going about shooting people in the face.
Raincoat
I got the game for Christmas, but I still haven't played it yet. I have been playing FFXII, and haven't tried DoC yet.
It looks good, and everybody I know who has it likes it a lot.
And the graphics look awesome.

I hate shooters and even I enjoyed this game. Maybe if shooters had more to them like RPG elements I might actually enjoy them. But I couldn't play it that long really, only in hour segments. So it took my like a week to beat it.
YourSweet666
It was an ok game, the battle system was easy to adapt to and gun customization was pretty good, once you upgrade things like the long barrel they become quite powerful.

Though the story on the other hand was kind of bland. Sure the immediate story surrounding Vincent, and the crisis facing the planet due to Chaos/Omega was intriguing. But although Square gave it the passable status, I never really got the *wow* sort of feeling from it, because they didn't pay enough attention to the outer layers of the story.
Things like Shelke and her sister, sure it says that Shelke ran off with Deepground and then Shalua starting to search for her. But it never did tell me just why Shelke left in the first place, why she left her family to join some secret Shinra organization. Plus in the game when you see her her body's corrupted, she needs Mako every day to live and all and I know I would have liked to find out what exactly Deepground did to her for her to end up like that.

But yeah, I'll stop raving now, I liked the game but the little things like those stopped me giving it a perfect rating.
