Alright, well there was the topic below about Who you favorite MAIN character is, but this topic is for Final Fantasy characters in general. This kind of topic is as old as time, but we always have new faces on the forum, so it's never a bad thing to bring it back :-)


Well, pre FFXII, my favorite Final Fantasy Characters were: Laguna, Squall, Irvine, Zell, and Delita. Delita and Laguna being my ultimate favorites, Delita even more so than Laguna.

BUT

Since FFXII came out, by FAR my new favorite character, (Maybe not past Delita yet), but definitely better than Laguna, was Al-Cid Margrace.

Al-Cid Margrace is absolutely f*cking awesome. His hair, the glasses, the accent, his demeanor, his costume, EVERYTHING about him is awesome. Another new favorite character: Vossler. Vossler's character art was great as well, but his whole sense of duty and right and wrong I really enjoyed. I thought he was a strong character, and very likeable. Vaan is also a new favorite. He is the perfect teenager so far in Final Fantasy. He is a happy kid, but WAIT. He does have a deep side to him. While talking to Ashe about his thoughts and dreams, he's not some one sided happy-go-lucky Selphie/Yuffie type of character. He actually says good things, has a good heart, and although people view him as a "tagalong" in FFXII, which is pretty true, there's no doubt his CHARACTER is great. So now, if i were to rank my favorite characters:

FF4 - Rydia!, Edge, Cecil, Kain, Cid (when he's on about airships)
FF5 - Gilgamesh!!, Ghido and Bartz
FF6 - Celes, Locke
FF7 - Aeris, Sephiroth, Cloud, Cid
FF8 - Rinoa, Laguna
FF9 - Zidane, Garnet, Steiner
FF10/-2 - Tidus, Rikku
FF11 - Shantoto!, Ayame, Ajido, Prishe, Tenzen, Cornelia, the Mithran boss of Aht Urghan, oh and the royal puppeteer
FF12 - Balthier, Cid,
FFT - Ramza, TG Cid

FFi-v ; I don't think I had one. Ehhhh. I guess I didn't get too deep into it as much as I did the others.
FFvi ; Terra for sure. 8) She was so cool, even though she severely creeped me out as an esper.
FFvii ; Yuffie. Cliche a bit, no? Doesn't stop me from liking her, she was upbeat and cute.
FFviii ; Selphie. There's a bit of a trend here, especially from FFvii, but I liked her because she was upbeat and cute etc. etc. And dude, her hair is fabulous.
FFix ; BEATRIX!!! She's fabulous all over. Gorgeous character design, and she's wickedly terrible. That's why I effing love her more than any other. 8)
FFx ; Lulu, for that bitch-i'm-gonna-slap-you thing she has going on, and Riku for the same reasons as Yuffie & Selphie. They're cute, but thankfully not obnoxiously so. @__@
FFxii ; FRAN AND BALTHIER. They kick so much ass despite not having a real actual reason for going with Vaan and all them on their journey.

I can't really think of too many other favorites at this time.

I haven't played all the FF games, and some of them I started (six...) and played once but never picked it up again... I have played 4, 7, 8 and 9 all the way through though... And... I've had the new one since the day it came out but I haven't played it yet... *blushes in shame*

Anyway! My favorites would be Red XIII, Irvine, Zell, Reno, Seifer, and Vivi. Squall's pretty awesome too. I think I'll like the people on the new game from what I've seen in my artbook, except that wannabe playboy rabbit thing. But the other main characters look pretty awesome.

I always liked Tifa and Wakka.. and of course Mustadio

FFIV Cid was the best damn Cid out of the series closely followed by FFVII's Cid... they fit the criteria of what a cid should be (throwing oneself down a whole with a bomb is Cid... Telling Squall that he is now in charge and then running away is not cid)

Vivi however is maybe the greatest creation to come from any Final Fantasy. His story and personality are just brilliant. I especially love the way that he doesn't fit the cliche. He is a weak character who shows great strength, we don't often get to see our characters so vulrable. Whenever kids feature in RPGs they are usually very Brattish (Palom/Porom, Eiko, Anastasia from SHII ect. ect) but Vivi managed to avoid that by having a real personality.

There are more, but these two stand out to me...

When choosing favorite characters I tend to pick ones who either I can relate to in some way, or seem to stand out to me more then others.

My favorites would have to be

My favourite caracters of all time...

Cloud - boring character, but he's super awesome in Advent Children, and I like trying to make sense of his story (the whole story of Final Fantasy VII for that matter!)

Cid (VII) - He's just hilarious.

Wakka - Love his accent, and his ball (no, not a gay comment roflmao)

Lulu - Super-sexy

Yuna - Also super-sexy

Rinoa - You guessed it.

Zell - Hilarious

I'll just stop there before I go any further into a big pile of poo.

Hmm... Overall, my favorite character is Aeris. Has been since I was 7. Before I knew she died (I found that out much later. I used to watch my dad, but when he got to the end of the first disc, I was away at camp)

FFVII: Aeris and Zack... And the Turks (+ Rufus) I always have a hard time with this game, because I liked the characters a lot.
FFVIII: Selphie. She was always so upbeat, and had me laughing.
FFIX: Hmm... Probably Vivi or Beatrix. I don't remember the game that much.
FFX: Rikku.
FFX-2: Lenne and Shuyin. Their story intrigues me, and it was the only reason I played the game.
FFXII: Fran and Balthier. They are just awesome.

I didn't have a favourite character in the final fantasy's I-VI but I do have favourites in the other series.

VII: Tifa & Aeris
VIII: Rinoa & Seifer
IX: Vivi & Freya
X: Yuna & Lulu
X-2: Paine
XII: Fran & Balthier

I haven't played FFXI but i do plan on buying it soon.

XII - Balthier, Larsa, too bad they didn't develope Drace

VIII - no favorites
VII - Turks with the exception of the annoying female addition
VI - My favorite FF, Edgar, Celes, Terra, Sabin, Locke, Leo, Setzer(KH bad! >> distorting his personality), and perhaps Relm. I throw in Kefka, just because he made me laugh
V - Faris
IV - - no favorites

VII-Sephiroth, Vincent, Im going to be lame and name sephy for this one....
VIII-Squall, Rinoa, Seifer. Im going to be lame and name squall for this one
IX-Vivi
X-Auron
X-2-yeah....right
XII-Fran and Balthier, Judge Ghis. Judge Ghis had the coolest armor in my opinion, so that pretty makes the character for me, and Fran and Balthier are just awesome.

Yo no lie, X-2 actually had a FEW decent characters. The guys were pretty badass in that game, and his mind is slipping my mind right now, but the Tidus-look-alike wasn't too bad

There were only two good characters introduced in FFX-2... Baralai and Gippal... Nooj however just annoyed the hell out of me. I think I just liked Baralai because he reminded me somewhat of chaos from Xenosaga with his soft spoken attitude and mysterious nature. Gippal was pretty cool, though abnoxous, and it was great to see a character who wasn't in deep with politics.

Well lets see.

From the entire series my favorite characters would be:

Rydia, Cecil, and Kane from FF4.
Terra, Locke, Edgar, Sabin, Setzer from FF6
Cloud, Tifa, Aeris, Vincent, Septhiroth from FF7
Squall, Seifer, Rinoa, from FF8
Auron, Yuna, Tidus, Jecht from FF10

Basically the characters from the games that have the strongest character to them. For instance characters like Kane and Cloud. Both of them have a sort of dark and mysterious, yet in some instances heroic past. While at first Kane is an ordinary knight, before long you see his darker self, something in him that makes him turn on his kingdom, and turn on his friend Cecil and yet at the time where he could finish them off he shows them mercy, in short a strong aura of mystery.
Then there's Cloud, the mixed up kinda guy. he grows up aspiring to be like his hero Septhiroth and ends up falling flat on his face, going absolutely berserk in the end when his hero torches his town and kills his family and friends, and then adopting his best friends life and incorporating his past and future into his own. And then he ends up on a quest to shatter the lies and find his own true self, and in the end settling his grudge with his former hero.

Those are mostly the elements I find make an excellent game character. And you'll probably notice there are none from FF XII there. But that's because it doesn't hit Australia till Feb 15th so I'm still waiting.

Gau, dispite that he draws his power from the Veldt continent by getting various enemy attacks (when he uses the Jump command)

FF7: Yuffie, Vincent, Cait Sith, Cloud, Zack, and etc.

FF9: Freya and That girl with the huge axe.
FFX: Auron, Lulu and Rikku.
FFX-2: Baralai and Gippal. (and of course the newly styled Rikku )
FF12: Al-cid of Rozaria, Fran, Larsa, the summons >>, Balthier.

My favorite is Auron, I don't really know why though. By the way, I'm new here. My best character was Yuna, any of her attacks would do 99,999, even her normal attack.

you got the right idea, I forgot about vivi, I take Auron back, vivi is my favorite.

That's the thing about FFX... eventually any character can do any attack and can be just as good as any other. At least it's not like that throughout the whole game (such as FFVII and FFVIII ). By the way Apple_juice, next time just use the 'Edit' button instead of double posting... thanks

lol, flame, sry bout that one. Well, Auron isn't my favorite, idk why I typed it in the frist place, but my favorite is either vivi, amarant, or yuna. Flame, you're right, that's the downfall of FF10, you can gett the characters to be exactly the same, but yuna will be like the only one who can do something special that nobody else can.

Hmmm. . . who should the lucky ones be?

Orlandu - his whole personality, and character is just awe inspiring. Plus his skills in combat is not bad either
Basch - I swear his character and being were just designed to be a younger version of Orlandu.
Vaan - At first I thought he would just be your typical pretty boy teenage character. Much like Tidus, but his whole character exceeded my expectations, in a good way.
Ramza - although the archetype for his character is quite overplayed. He was enjoyable playing the game through with.
Squall - Now before people start complaining about how whiny his character was, here's my explanation. Squall's character was derived of that of someone from the era that I was born into, the 90s. Someone who was very angst like, and had suicidal tendencies. Yet does not the courage to kill himself, much like Shinji Ikari from Eva. someone I could relate to because he was a product of our era.
Auron - because he makes Chuck Norris look like Zach Braff.
Cid - One of the few characters of FF VII that I enjoy. His lines are just hilarious. . .
Yuffie - A cute young girl with short hair, and a bubbly personality.
Tifa - She's sweet, down to earth. Basically the girl next door.
Rinoa - The girl of my dreams, a mixture of Yuffie's personality and that of Tifa's. Wish I could meet a girl like her.

When I take a liking to a character it is usually because of the characters personality and coolness. Not really a fan of characters that seem to have a huge ego and spiky hair, but pretty much all of the characters from Final Fantasy 6 would be considered favorites, and Kain from FFIV. Characters that have great lines are a must too, always good to throw some comedy in while your saving the world.

I'm so hooked on personality, I usually only go for characters with charisma and who keep the game interesting. No offense to those cold and aloof characters, but they bore the carp out of me. XD

A few of my favorites are:

Final Fantasy V: Oh gosh, Galuf? Was that the old man's name? x.x; I adored him so much.

Final Fantasy VI: Terra, she was by far the only chick I liked in FFVI. Kefka was another that I liked. ;p

Final Fantasy VII: Zack!!!! and Yuffie. XDD I dunno why I took an immediate liking to Zack and when I saw him in Last Order, I began fangirling him even more. He's so adorable! Yuffie's upbeat and perky personality was so cute, too. I typically like those kinds of characters. =p

Final Fantasy VIII: Selphie! I didn't really like her at first, but then she began to grow on me as my favorite. Very upbeat and cheerful. And c'mon! That is one rad hairflip! XDD

Final Fantasy IX: I really liked Eiko and Beatrix. x.x Eiko's attitude for her age was priceless, especially when she was always trying to get Zidane to herself! And Beatrix was just so classy! Even when she was not so very good, she had a very elegant way to kicking your bum. That's a real woman, right there.

Final Fantasy X: I only liked Rikku. =.=;; The rest of the characters were so blah from my perspective. Rikku was just so cute.

Final Fantasy XII: No one!!!! *shot* XDDD All of those characters were so dull. If I seriously had to choose one, it would most definitely be Reks (that's how you spell Vaan's brother's name, right?). Yessss! 8D

Aww I really like FFXII But I agree with you about the other characters, another fav of mine is Dart from Legend of Dragoon <3
