Holyf*ck, guys, I love nothing more than when companies let us know they're about to announce something! Nothing says "Hey. I love to look at my own ass in the mirror" more than making a big fuss about a certain date on which you will tell the world some ##### you already know, but are intentionally witholding because you are a pretentious prick.
Anyway, the pretentious pricks at Square Enix have announced that they will announce something on December 18th of 2007--the 20th anniversary of the Final Fantasy series. This is according to www.gamefront.de, who cite Dengeki PlayStation magazine as having the report.
Have fun.

I call Final Fantasy Collection.
All Final Fantasy games ever on one Blu-Ray disc.

Maybe.
...I'm debating whether I should hang around and facepunch the first person who calls FF7 remake, or just bail the hell out of this thread right now, before things get messy.

FF VII Remake !!! lol
I think my IQ has dropped just by reading your topic, Bomb. XD
Yeah, I predict it's gonna be something like collection or some sort.

I agree with Athrun's view. I speculation it will be Final Fantasy Collection, too. If it's Final Fantasy VII, I'll laugh. I can not wait for the announcement to find out! They had to make an announcement they had a important announcement much later in the year!

I think they are afraid they will forget, so they announce that they have to announce something later, so that the fans will remind them. Lol. I do that sometimes, like "I have something to say to you later, remind me to tell you."
Lemme guess... they announce a *gasp* new FFVII sequel.

I shall have to circle that in my Diary... although chances are Square will just keep pushing back the date... they do seem to enjoy pushing back dates...
As it gets closer to december expect to see forums filled with "FFVII remake to be announced... maybe" and don't think that Square won't fuel the flames either... They already did the FFVII Technical demo (Tell me that did that for any reason but to create rumours and generate excitment and I'll call you a liar). I bet interviews with staff will hint towards a FFVII remake but then in the end they will simply announce a Final Fantasy Collection... >.>

It's the 20th birthday of the series. And they already know what they'll be announcing. No reason to push back the date of an announcement. A product, maybe, but an announcement, no reason.

They also did tech demos of FFVI for N64 and FFVIII for PS2. They didn't do anything out of the ordinary with that--people just cling to FF7 more than others in the series.
Edit: have to squeeze this in here: Posting in a legendary thread.

The FFVI for N64 looked cool... but yeah I know that on the outside there is nothing out of the ordinary, but when they decided to use FFVII for the tech demo I'm pretty sure they had the idea of rumours of FFVII remake flying about in their minds. And I have no doubts that closer to the date of the announcement something will be said by someone in Square Enix which people will interprete as a hint at an FFVII remake even though I very much doubt it will be that. Personally, I can't really blame Square... it's just good business tactics...

Nay.
I want it to be a REAL FF6 remake but of course I'm just dreaming. The PS1 version wasn't good enough. I want like the entire game redone sorta ala FF 3 for the DS. Better script, new graphics, the works.

Isn't that what the games getting...? Or I could've sworn there was some portable remake in the works for it.

Ah yeah you're right... Looks like there's a Final Fantasy 6 advance.
Anyone know if it's released already in japan and is heading to the states anytime soon? Or is it still in development?
I'll have to... Uh... BUY it... When it comes out.

It was released on November 30th in Japan, will be released on February 5th in the US. It contains new visuals, a brand new translations, new summons and an extra dungeon.
Though the graphics don't look all too redone to me. *shrug*
Probably just a port then.

That's good enough I guess... I'm mainly interested in a new translation. Thanks for the info brosef.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if it was a FF7 remake considering how so many people are asking for one and like SE they like to not only please their fans, but milk the FF7 series till its dry<---impossible.

I'm pretty sure it's not going to be a sequel to "Spirits Within" unless "Square Enix" is too short of a name...
My bet is FFVII remake or just a FF Collections... A FFVII remake isn't so ridiculous... They have remade all the others up to FFVI... I just think it's too soon... I want it to be on the PS4...

I haven't completely ruled out the possibility of it, especially considering that, by December, it will in fact mark over ten years since its original release. It seems like a solid number to me if any to justify a reincarnation.
However, there are a few other possibilities as well... the collection mentioned sounds possible, and Illu5ion makes a good point that they've stated that a remake isn't being planned, but who knows, so many things are possible with SE.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a FF7 remake or some sort of sequal, and personally I really hope that they do almost ten years on and I still love the game. Also FF7 is easily the most popular of the series and basically introduced the Final Fantasy series to the average gameplayer, I think it would be brilliant to pay tribute to the most popular JRPG ever made and easily Squares biggest money spinner.

For those who said that a compilation of sorts would be released for the 20th Anniversary of Final Fantasy is correct so far. According to
QUOTE (the-magicbox.com)
P S P
- Square Enix announced Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition and Final Fantasy II Anniversary Edition for PSP, as the first games in the Final Fantasy 20th Anniversary series. Both games will be contain all the new elements in Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls for GBA, plus further enhancements in the graphics and music, as well as new CG movies and some innovations on the levels and contents.
- Square Enix revealed new details in Final Fantasy Tactics: Shishi Sensou for PSP, in addition to the Onion Knights, the game will also have the job class Dark Knight, and Balthier from Final Fantasy XII, as a playable character in the game. Balthier will play an important role in the game.
So far SE is releasing Final Fantasy I and II with all new content again. I'm assuming SE is going release all of the Final Fantasy games up to FFIV with new content since they mention more will be released. Perhaps, we are going to get FFVII with new content and not a remake. SE also announced some new details concerning FFT for the PSP and I'm surprised they are including Balthier in the game with a big role because I always thought there was not connection between the FFT Ivalice and the FFXII Ivalice. Here is the link to the article:
http://www.the-magicbox.com/gaming.htmThe news regarding FF Anniversary and FFT is under January 16, 2007.

It's an announcement I could really care less about. My roommate has a PSP that he never plays but that doesn't mean I'm going to go out and buy these remakes.
I was hoping for an announcement console releated insted of portable related. What a weaksauce announcement.
