Oh god, I know. I've been watching Inuyasha for years and there just doesn't seem to be an end to the maddness of it all. Another one I like is Wolf's Rain, although the end of that was very confusing.

yea, im reading the manga now actually, i picked up a few volumes and i havnt been able to put it down, its great. i havn't watched the subbed version of the anime though. i think im going to sometime in the future though.. but FMA was one of the animes where the DUB was just phenomenal, IMO at least.

I thought the voices matched the characters well in it. I haven't heard the japanese voices, but I thought the dub was pretty good.
And It kinda makes sense that English voices would be good, since this doesn't take place in Japan. At least, I don't think so.

FMA is a series I've only seen in bits and pieces, and I know that the film sequel/conclusion has received alot of praise, so I plan on watching it in its entirety eventually. From what little I've seen, it seems like a good balance of humor, action and tragedy. It will likely become another series I need to start collecting on DVD.

Most people know now that this is my favourite anime, it was just such an amazing and well-told story with a huge focus being on character development. There was a nice blend of action thrown in without making it over the top but unlike most animes the main characters couldn't just use their strength to solve most of their problems. It was also interesting that for a portion of the series there wasn't a main nemises bad guy-type character.
The setting was also interesting, there were bustling cities, small towns, green fields, a secluded tropical island and plenty of desert... The scenery was always changing which is thought was a great touch. The character's were much the same, although they had strong personalities, there were still times where they would suprise you by doing something you may not have been expecting. Much like real people they could be unpredictable.
I have lot more to say but I should leave it there... basically I love it...

Gosh I know. If you've ever seen the movie (who hasn't right?) it's absolutely supurb. One of the best anime movies I've ever seen. I love how the movie is original in its plot and actually follows the timeline of Hitler's early works rather than bend it around to suit the movie. The first time I saw the movie it was at Nan Desu Kan (Denver anime convention for those of you that don't know) and it was in japanese. Lemme tell you, i love the English voices but I perfer the Japanese.

You know, I don't really see the appeal behind the anime series. I can't say hate, but I can't say love either. I'm just....negative about it haha. 8D Since my friend is the anime club president, she asks me to visit the club sometimes...but EVERYTIME I'm there all they want to watch is FMA and yet...we oblige. 8| It feels extremely overrated and contains more fanboys/girls than there should be. Especially at AnimeExpo, I can't count how many people tried and unsuccessfully dressed up as....whoever the characters names are. 8\
Although, after reading a chapter of the manga, I'd have to say I find more appeal in that than the anime. 8)

I found the conclusion to be lackluster for the series itself. It ended to early, split off somewhere way out there so it didn't even have the same message as the manga, and it was a very depressing ending. Plus throwing Hitler in there was completely pointless.
Now the manga is still going. Manga Sloth > Anime Sloth. Yeah, 4 tanks to move it a few feet backwards. Amazing. Not to mention Gring and the better development of larger amount of characters.

The ending was the most dissapointing thing about the FMA anime...I wasn't very keen on the film at all. The ending felt kind of rushed and just lacked depth which is a shame because the rest of the anime was the complete opposite. I think I need to read the manga, especially for the ending. It wasn't a terrible ending but the last section of episodes left a bad taste in my mouth...
Metonymy
Jan 22 2007, 09:25 PM
Actually, the "ending" of the anime that seemed lacking was only the last few episodes, yet the anime branched off from the manga around episode 25.
I like the series. It'd be on my top 5 list if I haven't seen such badass anime already.

I agree that I didn't like the last few episodes of FMA too much and I defineatly perfer the manga. It's actually kind of funny just how different the manga is from the anime. As far as the rabid attempts at FMA costumes that have been popping up in anime conventions, I'll agree that I have as of this day only seen one truly good costume. As it was, the young man who had worn that particular Al costume had been working on it for over a year... *sighs* I wish I had that amount of dedication.

Personally, if I was to dress up as anyone, it'd be Barry the Chopper (post execution).
But no one wants to do something as crazy as that, and make it look good while they're at it. If someone manages a good Barry costume, I'll bow down and call them God.
Anyway.

a lot of people say that, but i have to COMPLETELY disagree.
I mean, the whole series is about the bond the brothers share, and then their separated, and they spend the rest of their lives trying to get Ed back to his own world.. and in the end they both get stuck in the "real" world.. but guess what? they're together, they're finally together, and thats all they really ever wanted, was to be with each other... I thought it was a terrific ending, that it doesn't matter where you live, or how you live, their bond is so strong their just happy they finally found eachother

Yeah! See! that's part of the reason why I love the movie soo much. It's just so nice to think that everything can and will be alright. It is very inspiring and really just quite cute. ^-^ Barry would make a fantastic costume, but I think if I had to dress up as one of the characters it would probably be Lust. Oh yeah, I'm soooo evil. *snorts*

Personally it's my favorite anime of them all. It had a great story to it, and the way it went about showing it I also thought was great. How it would flash back and forth from Ed and Al and whatever they're doing, and then to the Homunculi and the conspiracies they're organizing behind the scenes which ultimately shape the path Ed and Al take.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I want to reeeal bad.

Love, the red stone thingy as you call it is the Blood stone. The Philosopher 's stone. Through out ancient mythology it has been a mysterious stone of pure evil. It represents all that is bad in the human race as in celtic mythology Pheta - the goddess of light - was corrupted by Umbren and tricked into sacraficing the entire Phoenicein race to make a single stone. In chinese mythology it was used solely for the purpose of turning lesser elements into pure gold. Even if the stone were real - I wouldn't suggest going after it. If you must study the alchemic arts them I suggest you read Twelve Gates at
http://www.levity.com/alchemy/ripgates.html so you can at least get a firm grasp on the twelve gates of humanity.

Not only is alchemy possible, it could also be practical.
This is what I came up with. And I need to kill 8 minutes or so.
All matter is held together by some sort of field. Whether it is gravity, electromagnetic, etc., it is a field.
Gravity is not powerful enough to hold the atom together, therefore it must be another type of field.
So we've eliminated Gravity from the types of fields possible. The others i have to look into further before starting on them. Now let us turn our attention to my logic.
If something exists, it must have an opposite. Matter has Anti-matter, etc. Therefore for each field, there must be another field that negates it. If that field can be identified, then a molecule can be broken down into basic components.
If something can be broken down, it can be rebuilt. However, the laws of equal exchange still apply, in order to make a molecule with 4 protons, you need at least 4 protons to start. Therefore 1 atom of helium cannot become 1 atom of gold.
Note, this is only my ponderings at the beginning. Now onto the technology.
The best form for this would be a glove, since the hand can be easily manipulated, which would allow for a more finely controlled breakdown, etc.
However, the glove couldn't cast a broad field, otherwise all matter infront of the glove would be devoured. So with a lack of a general field, lasers must be used.
The laser would consist of, actually, four "lasers". They would meet at the given point, and create the field. This prevents accidental destruction due to a general field.
These beams, rather than "lasers" would also have to be able to recreate the field, with the slight variation in the field which is what inevitably makes matter come together different.
The problems I see with this is that if the field has a spread effect, then the world is basically gone. Oh well.
Lady Obsidian
Feb 5 2007, 07:10 AM
I've actually found that alchemy is everywhere. In it's basest most crude state, alchemy is the art of taking two (or more) completely different components and creating one base entity. For example, procreation. It takes one sperms and one egg and creates a human being (and sometimes two). Another example would be baking a cake. You take several items and merge them to create one different item.

Feb 8 2007, 08:36 PM
Actually, it's pretty basic that Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons are held together by some sort of field. It's also common knowledge that gravity is the weakest field. So I thought that since atoms are so small, they would have to be held together by something other than gravity, and i went to the other fields (so far, I think only gravity cannot be neutralized). If I was a better scientist, and had a huge budget, I could make this work, but it would take a WHOLE lot of money.
The main problem though is finding a way to reassemble the material once it's in plasma form. This is actually quite basic when you think about it, but when you find ways to do it, it's near impossible without hugenormous amounts of money.
I've thought of other things to, from drives on Spaceships, to new Tanks, armor, etc. I'm a war oriented person.

hey do any of you like .hack just wondering.sorry if im off topic
Nani?
Feb 12 2007, 03:59 PM
.hack is based in a fake MMORPG. FMA is based in Europe, and it uses a somewhat realistic (if alchemy worked like that) setting. They're so different, I question why you posted in this topic saying that.
Lady Obsidian
Feb 14 2007, 06:56 AM
Well it's not actually set in Europe so much as FMA is based in a world modeled after early 20th centuary England. There are of coarse differences, but I find it amusing how the entire anime seems to be following what was going on in that time period - but to (surprisingly) to a lesser degree.
Hamina
Feb 15 2007, 09:22 AM
yes i agree but if you think about those few times in .hack that it shows people in the real world. at least one of them could possibly be from europe. it is a thought but I might be wrong ya never really know.
