Game Politics put up a unique find that might help immortalize some of the most dedicated players of all time. According to their report, the Guinness Book of World Records will be putting up another videogame-related section with records for players who've picked up achievements for determination, high scores, and long life.

As you can see from the shot above, there are some new records being put up along with the quintessential high scores list that remains mostly the same from its previous incarnation 20 years back. Cody Miller's legendary speed run through Halo 2 on the Xbox is now listed, as well as a record for the guy who pulled off a three-hour speed run through the PS2's GTA: Vice City.

The records also hold some noteworthy people who've managed to get high scores in multiple games, such as Greg Sakundiak's records for Dragon's Lair, Tag Team Wrestling, and Twin Cobra, and Doris Self, our dearly departed mistress of all things Q*bert who got her place in Guinness for being the oldest competitive gamer to date.

Hopefully, they'll include some new categories next year, including "Person with the highest gamerscore ever" and "Most annoying leetspeak phrase used in online games." We'll be betting on "STFU Noob," for that last entry.

Pretty cool that they have Videogame records in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Too bad I didn't record when me and my friend beat Secret of Mana without ever updating our armors/equipment. ohmy.gif

That Final Fantasy VII speedrun of 12 hours should be put in there (or something like that... I remember seeing a screenshot but I havn't seen it since >.<)... With all the stupid things appearing in the Guiness book of records I'm not paticulaly suprised... I don't care much either. Though I hope I never get in it just for getting a highscore on a videogame... I would hate myself...

Uhhh, now all game freaks are gonna race themselves to have their names written in the book. =o
The Evil Dead
For some reason I find this to be exremely stupid... But I can't really seem to figure out what about this whole situation makes me feel that way.

I dunno, it's just video games... Just seems really weird to me that it'd go down in the Guinness World Records book.

So were you able to avoid getting hit the whole time towards the end of the game or what Atty? I know you take huge damage later ( I think like the last ten hours... It's after the part where you can buy like the final armors ) in SoM if you don't update your equipment so did you evade all the attacks or what?
Soulfire
I think it'd be kinda cool to look at. "Woah, in one minute a dude scored 600 million points in tony hawks pro skater? Crazy."

Meh.
Bomb
If they don't add me for being one of the five people ever to finish SaGa Frontier 2, I'll be pissed.
Valince
I should be up there for completeing Resident Evil 2 without saving and getting the highest rank. And what about my current 1028 battles in Shadow Hearts 2, and my 108 hit combo??

That section of the book is going to get cluttered quickly.

Yes, that is definitly noteworthy for an entry. Cause that game blows big time.
Red_ryaN
i think thats great that video games are getting recognized as more than just a game now..
if people say its dumb to put games in the book.. have u seen some of the other stuff?

theres one called something like "longest dog tunnel that a dog walked threw" and its like 120 people lined up with their legs opened and a dog ran threw it :/

im pretty sure beating halo2 legendary in under 2 hours is a greater feat. than that

Yea, to think about it. This is funny, coz game scores can be modified, unless the refrees see it from the beginning. To check if there's no 3rd party program interfering. But I'm sure they already know about this.

I'm one of those 5 people. Tony's in there too. =p
Kokiri

Trust meee, you're not the only one. D8

It just seems extremely dorky to be in the book for something videogame related. A little rude and blatant to say so but that's how I see it. I wouldn't want to be in it hahahaha.

I sure would be interested to see whose names are in it though. 8D

Ditto. It feels weird. Sure it is a nice thing and such, but for some reason I find this odd. I can't place my finger around it.
I know a good friend of mine who is more than happy to go crazy on his Megaman Collection to get himself in the book of fame, but he can be very nerdy about Megaman.

I can see plenty gamers stroking thier e-weewee's if they get in that book. Especially if they reg at a forum tongue.gif.

LONGEST TIME PLAYING A GAME WITHOUT SAVING/SLEEPING/PEEING/DUMPING/EATING/TURNING GAME OFF.

I am Mr.Awesome, put me in that book..

Seriously though, unlike the other records in the book, gaming 'achievements' have very little value.
Noir
What about the asian kid who beat Mario in like, an hour, or something? Everyone forgets him.

Only 108? I belive I got 10,000 as my combo, which is also the highest I think and so no, you wouldn't get into the book of records for that because it is so easily achiveable...
Kokiri
They should make there own book for video game records.

Our stats from our Level ups helped until the last part of the game when damage started to become a huge problem. When we got to the island with the Mana Tree, I remember things were so bad that we had to hit enemies with a spear that had Baloon status on it, and run away. You could die from just one hit. I think we did the same thing up in the Mana Fortress, but I don't remember that part clearly. But during the final boss battle we used the Moogle belt and Mini hammer on each other to avoid damage when Flamie does it's fly-by attack. We used those tactics on all bosses, or whenever one of us was about to be hit by a magic spell.

This was our first rpg, so we probably didn't notice the rediculous difficulty level the game seemed to have. The reason we didn't use armor and accesories was because we just bought them, and didn't think they needed to be equiped. We noticed on our second playthrough that they needed to be equipped. Looking back on it, we were surprised that we were able to play that way.

Eternal Key route is so wimpy tongue.gif .

But if you pulled that off without it, that will give me something to work for.
