What do you think about Final Fantasy XI? I would buy it?
Athrun
I avoid it. I don't like paying money to play games online to begin with,a nd I hear a lot of people get addicted to playing it, and I don't want to play any game that much.
The Evil Dead
If you're looking for an MMO to pay monthly for I say go with WoW... It has a way larger community and the size of the game is utterly ridiculous. FFXI is getting on in age and there's not as many users as there used to be, but it's not the worst MMO you could be paying monthly for.

It's not a bad choice though if you REALLY want to give FFXI a try.

I used to be against paying for MMO's myself but then I became a huge hypocrite as I now have a huge addiction to WoW. If you join a large and populated server there's always tons of people to play with, lots of cool new people to meet and so many things to do and gear to get that it's beyond ridiculous.

I would not recommend FFXI to anyone. I played it for a number of months until I finally realized how much I hated the game. It quickly becomes very difficult to enjoy on any aesthetic level.

Personally, I like City of Heroes/Villains, but I assume you're interested in the fantasy genre. I've never heard anything great about WoW from any reliable sources, so I can't give you any tips on that one... Maybe try some free to play MMOs while you're searching.

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes looks promising but right now it's plagued with technical issues that the younger more impatient players can't deal with. In a few months or a year it could shape up to be a great game, especially for role players.

Well as far as MMO's go it is a pretty good game.

Though as mentioned the population has decreased by a bit, which especially for me can be a good or a bad thing. Generally I like a mid leveled crowd which is roughly what the populace of FF XI amounts to. But naturally that has down sides, in general a larger crowd just adds to the experience of the game. And some things aren't as much fun alone.

Anyway enough about that. As for the game itself, to me it's simply too group dependent. It starts off fine, you can get the hang of things alone. But by around I'd say level 16-20 it becomes hard to progress without joining a group.

Other than that though I found it pretty balanced. But other games like WoW are advancing faster, with bigger worlds and some more challenging monsters etc. (WoW is huge BTW, when I first started I got lost so many times.

So, if you like doing everything with a group then you might find it fun. But if there are times you'd like to go solo XI would probably disappoint you.

Right now though, I'm interest to see how SE's next MMO they're developing now turns out. Though myself I probably won't play it, I've already got my favourite MMO's to stick to. dry.gif

TED is right, FFXI has reached the point where people have dropped off like flies. Even I don't play it anymore. It's not newbie friendly like it used to be. If you're 65+ you will be playing the game. But if you're not, you're going to be spending a lot of time LFPing. This has always been FFXI's huge flaw. You don't know when or if you're going to party on any given day. I've played it for 4 years now and each year the flow of new players has decreased while the average LFP time has risen. Also high lvl players-end game players undergo a strange transformation. Friendship and sense of humanity is thrown out the window. It's all about screwing your peers over to get a piece of armor that will become inferior in the next couple of Dynamis runs.

The difference between FFXI and Vanguard is that FFXI's problems are in the game's design. It's made to be boring and repetitive. Vanguard was released earlier than they intended for internal reasons, so they're still working out a lot of bugs and trying to streamline it to run more efficiently. Vanguard's problems are not due to design flaws in it's playability.
The Evil Dead
Personally I think Vanguard is going to fail pretty hardcore. It doesn't have anything to offer that most current MMO's do, and it's already off to a bad start.

I expect it to go the way of RF Online, Archlord, Phantasy Star Universe, Dungeons and Dragons Online and so on and so forth. The game may be around for awhile, but I think the dismal number of users will eventually kill the thing off.

That's just me though. If you're going to get into an MMO I'd get into one of the big boys like WoW, FFXI or maybe even Guild Wars so you're assured that there will be good gameplay and a decent number of people to play with.

It's a fun game, i've been at it for 2 years and have 2 75 jobs and soon enough another one, exping may be repetivive at times, but you make some good friends and fighting the hard stuff can be fun too. Though many people can change when they hit endgame, an RL friend of mine is like that and well, I can succumb to it myself at times. It has a cool story unique to it's world too, but you'll need a group to explore it. Final word on buying it, go for it. If you have time, check out other games too as far as mmo's go. My soul cannot handle another MMO so I can't play WoW or anything like that. And all that dynamis gear is situational Shion!

You tell that to those who "change" and turn evil and stuff over a freaking AF3 piece. Personally I didn't care for the dynamis drops. It was shot at bettering my reaction time with spells.
True Rune
Fools who succumb to elitsm. Pity. I'm not a victim of it but I know it all too well. Screw em.
But I guess hating the game works too. =_=;

I agree, i was a white mage so i almost always needed to team with ppl. Even if your a warrior or black mage you can easily get pwnd by your level monsters, which can get annoying because of level downs. xp.gif

To be honest even though I play it, I really hate it, waste of time hardly can manage to form a party and when i do it usually breaks up in about an hour. Lastly the lag is so unbelievable that it's just rediculous, but even then something attracts me to play it still. I might start being serious about it after I get a part time job when I turn 16 and get xbox360! or maybe a new laptop could be better... hmmm.

yes well what you just described there is what i refer to as the Vanadiel effect.....basically its just, in short, the belief that you can leave Vanadiel but Vanadiel never really leaves you....in all my time of playing the game ive noticed a few reaccuring themes. the one im focussing on is this, those who have played the game for a year plus and leaves the game will typically return before long. i don't even know if its the game, the players, the storyline, or a combination of all three that causes this but it is there. Vanadiel has almost an erie magnetism to it and its confonded me for a long time but i have to admit i do like watching things unfold from day one of someones supposed "Im quiting the game period" we back on my server found this so common we'd bet gil on how long it would take for em to come back lmfao

well i got it about a month and a half ago. i like it a lot. lol ive been playing nothing but this since i got it over the summer. however its the only game i havent exactly worn out yet so that's probably why =p in any case its good i would suggest buying it if you havent already
