While watching Attack Of The Show! tonight, I managed to catch a glimpse of the trailer for this new anime film, Paprika, by Satoshi Kon (the same guy behind Paranoia Agent and others). Simply from how strange the trailer seemed, I knew right away it must've been the same guy. Over the last summer, I grew quite fond of Paranoia Agent, so I'm psyched about this.

Check out the trailer and other information at the Official Site.

The concept behind it certainly sounds intriguing:
QUOTE (Wikipedia)
Paprika (パプリカ, Papurika) is a Japanese animated science fiction film, based on Yasutaka Tsutsui's 1993 novel Paprika, about a female detective who investigates criminal cases by entering the dreams of her subjects. The film was directed by Satoshi Kon, animated by Madhouse Studios and produced and distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment. The music was composed by Susumu Hirasawa, who also composed the soundtrack for Kon's award-winning film, Millennium Actress, and equally lauded television series, Paranoia Agent.

Its world premiere took place at the 63rd Venice International Film Festival on September 2, 2006. It also competed at the 19th Tokyo International Film Festival from October 21—29, 2006 as the opening screening for the 2006 TIFF Animation CG Festival. It was also a part of the 44th New York Film Festival, playing on October 7, 2006. It is tentatively scheduled for theatrical releases on November 25, 2006 in Japan and May 25 2007 in the United States.

Did anyone already know about it, or has anyone perhaps seen it in Japanese already? What are your thoughts on this?

Mmm I've heard of this movie for a while. It's basically what started my fascination with the name "Paprika", which I'm starting to like more and more and use more and more everywhere.

The movie, after seeing the trailer after a million million million times on youtube, LOOKS AMAZINGLY FANTABULOUS. I seriously love the look of it so far, with the really trippy quasi-surrealistic scenes and the look of Paprika is SO ultra-Amelie with the pixie cut (aka; I love character designs) and the storyline really really really fascinates me. It's from the director of Tokyo Godfather from what I believe, and I absolutely love that movie therefore I am totally stoked for this one. :D

I loved Perfect Blue and I loved Paranoia Agent, so needless to say I'm likely going to love this.

IT'S A MUST WATCH FILM. O______O

I'm a fan of Satoshi Kon, especially after watching and indulging on Tokyo Godfathers. (<333 that movie) But Paprika just took it to a new level.

Amazing ace soundtrack. I'm in love with like, 80% of the soundtrack, which is a good percentage considering I don't like non-english music (unless it's french, since I actually like the language) and I don't usually listen to instrumental music either. But everything is amazing, and Susumu Hirasawa did an amazing job composing.

The mindtripping-quality to the movie is what brings it out visually. Things get blurred together, and distinctions between reality and dreams get lost. Which is why it's such a fantastic 'trip. *o* Storyline is also very convincing. There's action, twists, and better yet; a romance that's unconventional!!! It's like everything I love in a movie!!

SO WATCH IT. I saw it ages ago in theatres, and now I own the DVD and fanwhore it like crazy. *o*

Huh. Nice to see this topic revived. I watched a hardsubbed version of this a while ago, though I haven't seen it since. I'll have to watch it again sometime, but it definitely was a good movie. (Lack of memory prevents me from saying "great," but it's Satoshi Kon... 'nuff said.)

saw like the last half-hour/twenty minutes of it and i was tripped out. i definitely have to watch this movie from the start to "understand" it.
[it's japanese, so odds of any westerner understanding it is slim to none.]
