Full Version: Which Tales title was your first?

The Evil Dead
It's been forever since I've played a Tales title ( last one was Symphonia ) but I think I'm going to start working on Abyss and Legendia, while making my way back to Phantasia.

So what was your first Tales title? Mine was Tales of Destiny for the PS1. The game really captivated me with its battle system which to me was very unique at the time... I also loved the sprite graphics of the title and the anime style characters. The story was most excellent and it's most definitely one of my favorite RPG's I've ever played.

Unfortunately I don't own the title anymore nor did I ever get a chance to play ToD2.

My first Tales game I ever played was Symphonia. I had seen it while searching the nets, but never really knew what it was about. Then, just last year during an art class, a classmate started talking to me and asked if I had ever heard of Tales of Symphonia. I said yes, but I’d never played it. She then went on to say that her sister had played it and it was really good. So, last summer for my eighth grade graduation, my parents bought the game for me and I spent two weeks straight playing that game.

I absolutely love the game. I thought the story was captivating enough, even if there are some flaws. The characters were amusing each in their own way, however I still totally despise Collette. She just annoyed me...But other than that Iiked the character development. I would have to say Sheena was my favorite character. She was kind of an oddity among the others and reminded myself of me.

The graphics were good too. This was the first game I had ever played with cell shaded graphics. I thought they were well done and actually liked these graphics compared to other games.

I also liked the battle system. At first it was frustrating because I could only go in a straight line, but then I adapted to it and now it’s one of my favorite types of battle systems. One reason being that you don’t have to just sit there and watch as you enter commands to attack, you actually do the attacking and moving around. The music was also a plus. Sometimes I’d just sit in an area because I liked the music.

And, lastly, the fact that there weren’t random battles that popped up was nice. I made sure not to just skip over all the enemies, as I’d be terribly under level that way, but I thought it was nice that I could pick and choose when I wanted a fight.

Valhart got me into series by getting Tales of Symphonia for me. I've been a huge fan of the series since that day. Tales of Symphonia very cliche and I can't say I loved the cast, but I loved the battle system and I did like the antagonist cast far more than protagonist cast. It's one of my favorite RPG. Mainly, this game got a entertaining battle system, like every game I've played of the series had.

My first Tales game was actually the first on in the series. Tales of Phantasia (for snes) was the best game I've ever played, and I still say that now. Any Tales game I get now I compare to the original, so far none of them match it and thats all the Tales games so far... can't wait for whatever Tales is next.

My brother bought me Tales of Eternia when it was on the PS1 as Tales of Destiny 2. XD I still don't get how that came about. I used to see it a lot at the game store and, at the time, I was really attrected to how the art looked. It was when I actually played the game that got me into the Tales series.

The battle system was so much different from most RPGs I had played at the time, reminded me a lot of Star Ocean 2. I adored the idea of building up combos and just how fast-paced everything was.

I don't remember too much about the story anymore, but going between two different worlds was awesoooome! XD I was having so much fun going in between Celestia and Infernia. (and that world in between the worlds(what??) was really nifty!)

Of course, my favorite bit of it was definitely the characters and the Craymels(I probably spelled that wrong, it's been a while). I especially loved Reid and Keele~ XDD (Keele is like the only Eternia character who hasn't been in a cameo, though. ;-; Even Chat got her screen time as one of Anise's Tokunaga dolls...I forgot who the last character was, though. So NOT FAIR! Dx) I dunno, the characters all had this certain charm about them and the humour was so cute! 8D

'Course, I didn't get the luxury of no random battles. But I didn't really care since I was also playing Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, and other RPGs of the like with random battles.

I so badly want to play Eternia, again. ;-; It wasn't my favorite Tales, but it was definitely the first! <3

My first game in the series was Tales of the Abyss. I friggin' loved that game, and it's one of my favorite PS2 games now. The character cast is probably my favorite in any RPG I've played, the story was sophisticated and complex, and the gameplay was pretty nice, to boot. One of these days, I'll definitely replay it.

My first was DEFINITELY Tales of Phantasia. I played it on the SNES rom (that's right, before it came out in the US :D ) when...I think I was in 7th-8th grade. I love love love love love that game to this day, and although I haven't been able to go very far for the lack of experience my characters have to fight against this certain dungeon....and somehow its always the same dungeon no matter how many times I play through hahaha. Well I heart it anyways, its a fantabulous game. P:

Andddd, after that it was Tales of Destiny 2. Which I could've sworn could be earlier than Tales of Phantasia...since I got it when I was pretty youngish. Elementary-->Jr High years, I believe.

My first was a Phantasia ROM as well. I liked it, and I went a long ways, but I never actually finished it because I was frustrated that the Combo Command was bloody hard to pull off on a keyboard. It was decent but flawed. The active battle system was a nice thought, but I really didn't like that in several respects it was still an A-mashing battle system. There were enough enemies on which that didn't work to make it worthwhile though.

I skipped Destiny and Destiny 2 due to the same problem I have with a whole lot of PS1 RPGs, namely that I can never find them, so my next one was Symphonia. They really fixed a whole lot of the problems I found with Phantasia. I liked the addition of new characters, the ability to play as someone other than the main character (I never touched Genis or Raine with a ten-foot pole but they were almost always in my party; Kratos and Zelos are my favorites to use, but I use Lloyd when I don't trust myself to remember to heal my party), and especially the expanded battle system. Nowadays, I do everything in my power to avoid paying attention to the storylines unless they're good; this storyline is alright, but I have to turn off the voice acting if I'm going to take it seriously. Anyway, I liked the addition of combos, expanded tech selection, tech combos, U-attacks, dual techniques, and the C-stick shortcuts. I'm guessing a lot of those things were added during the PS1 era, but like I said, I missed those.

Other than those, I haven't played any Tales since. I'm going to try to find the DS one that is already out (is coming? I kinda lost track of video game news during my time away from here), and when one comes for a platform I own I'll give it a shot. I have a lot of reasons to like this series, so I'll try to keep up with it.

My first Tales title would be Tales of Destiny for the PS1, I personally wasn't fond of the design but what actually got me to enjoy the game was the battle system. At the time I think it was fun and stuff and also it was a new experience considering that a bunch of RPGs at that time were mostly menu based.

LOLS, ToP dejap translations are the effing funniest. :'D

"Mint is nice, but I bet Arche ##### like a Tiger."

Too bad the one released in the US probably has none of that crude humor. sad.gif

Yeah, I played Phantasia the same way from the Roms.
Officially and legally, however, my first Tales game was Tales of Symphonia. Loved it, but mainly because of the multiplayer. xD
Then I moved on to bigger and better things.

Yes!!! My kind of topic.

My first was of course Tales of Destiny and it's definitely my favorite of the series. It was indeed something very addictive to me back then, the battle system was like one of those fighting games, fast, noisy and exciting. Even the swords have their own levels, each with their own magic spells. And yes the story was excellent, I was never aware Leon Magnus would betray Stahn cs, and he DIED ;___;, I was too naive, thinking the game would be like any other old RPGs. =p

My 2nd was Tales of Eternia, I remember there is alternative title for this one, I don't remember. ^^;
And because of this game, I met Cless Alvein. He showed up as the final boss of the tournament, and I became his fan since then. XDXDXD

Hmm, Legendia and Abyss.
I have yet to taste Phantasia, Symphonia and ToD 2. T____T
True Rune
Symphonia, liked the multiplayer battle system. Loving abyss, gonna play through it again.

Seriously? I thought your name came from Phantasia.

Contrary to what it seems, I have not played a Tales of games myself. Lol. I tag along for plot and battle and leave interpreting item names and stuff to my younger sister who is the one playing the games. :3 Four of our Tales of games are in Japanese... five if you count the Phantasia in our computers. Symphonia is the only exception.

So the first one I tagged along with is Tales of Destiny 2, sometimes. ^^ Then for the most of Rebirth and Abyss. I know the plots and most of the systems as well as another who really played the game though.

Tales Of Symphonia was my first 'Tales' game and I loved every minute of it. Its up there with one of my favourite games ever, it has excellent story, a superb combat systeit and has great replay value. This was the game next to Legend Of Zelda TP that actually made happy that I paid for a Gamecube considering I can only count on one hand how many GC games I have.

My second Tales game is, Tales Of Eternia(Destiny 2 in the US) for the PSP and I have yet to complete it. So far i'm loving it though, and I recently started playing again after getting a glimpse at the Tales Of Eternia anime, its a very enjoyable game and i'm really impressed with the overall presentation, it still holds its own even by todays standards.

I have Tales Of Legendia and Abyss waiting for me on my shelf after I finish Suikoden 2, and then Final Fantasy 12.

First tales for me was Symphonia, it was also the first RPG i played that had a non turn based battle system but after a bit of a rocky start it quickly became my favourite, knocking Golden Sun off of the top spot. Really enjoyed the story (not exactly original true - but very well done all the same) and the characters were, for me, some of the most memorable in any game.

The second was Tales of Eternia - the deciding factor on whether i bought a PSP or not, saw it on the shelves and knew i'd soon be investing in a new handheld! Loved this game too though again it took me a bit to re-adjust to the battle system (inbetween ToS and ToE i'd been playing through the Fire Emblem series and Skies of Arcadia) which was surprising fast paced compared to ToS. The final dungeon was a classic and the Meredy's special attack against time craymel was a nice touch.

Playing TotA at the mo and have Tales of Phantasia (GBA) at the ready, am just debating whether to invest in a copy of ToL even though i've got 9 unplayed games in my cupboard!!

Tales of Legendia was my first one I believe. I'm not sure what all games are classified in this series cause I think I got another one with 'tales of' in the title. If so, that was my first one. What al games are apart of this series?
Pesmerga
Symphonia was my first one. I never had the chance to find the older titles and the local gamesstore were a joke back then. Actually they still are.
There is one decent gamesstore where I live and they are slow as hell when it comes down to ordering games, though most of the time they can find your games.

My first was Tales of Symphonia. Saw it in a magazine waaaaay before it was release and I thought hmm... an anime style rpg! And checked up one it every now and then until it was released. I've never heard of the tales series until that game which isn't a surprise since the others never game to the uk.

It had the most unique battle system which got me hooked. Completed it severaly times without getting bored which is a first O_O.
