XSEED GAMES ANNOUNCES EXCITING LINE-UP
OF UPCOMING GAMES

Publisher's 2007 Line-Up To Include Four Exciting RPGs

[text for PSP RPGS here]

WILD ARMS 5 (for PlayStation 2)

WILD ARMS 5 is the newest chapter in the popular role-playing game series by Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios JAPAN Studio and developer Media.Vision Entertainment. Celebrating the series’ 10th anniversary since its inception, WILD ARMS 5 features a brand new cast of characters in an all-new storyline along with a return of the acclaimed HEX battle system from WILD ARMS 4, strengthening its appeal to both new players as well as returning fans of the series. WILD ARMS 5 follows the journey of a group of young travelers as they try to unlock the mysteries of their ravaged land and unknowingly become involved in a struggle that will decide the fate of the entire world.

The Story

12,000 years ago, the world of Filgaia was a land immersed in technology far beyond anything found in the present day. For reasons unknown, however, the citizens of this advanced culture suddenly abandoned their technology, leaving the future of the human race to live in a comparatively primitive state. All that remained of this once great civilization were some scattered mechanical parts and the occasional remnants of a legendary golem—huge mechanical devices built to serve mankind. While use of the old technology remained mostly out of reach, there were some who had begun to research the ancient devices, seeking even the faintest hope of enriching their lives on this desolate world.

The situation changed dramatically about a hundred years ago when a new race known as the Veruni arrived on the planet. Although similar in appearance to humans, the Veruni’s superior physical attributes and advanced technology allowed them to quickly establish dominance over mankind. The human race found itself relegated to second-class status, and many citizens were forced to perform hard labor day in and day out in order to survive.

Fast-forward to the present day. In a small town called Capo Bronco on the outskirts of Filgaia, two youths, Dean Stark and Rebecca Streisand, witness an unbelievable event—the giant arm of a golem somehow falling from the sky. Their disbelief grows further when they discover that within the clenched fist of the golem’s hand lies a girl with little recollection of her past other than her name—“Avril.” This chance encounter inspires Dean and Rebecca to travel with Avril across the wastelands of Filgaia in hopes of helping her regain her lost memories. Little do they know their journey will eventually decide the fate of all mankind.

Key Features

*Return of the acclaimed HEX battle system, with all-new features such as interchangeable abilities between party members, varied battlefield layouts, and the ability to switch party members during battle.
*Huge, fully explorable 3D world with tons of hidden items, quests, and mini-games to discover.
*Dual pistol-wielding allows the player to shoot various types of bullets to solve puzzles, joining the returning action elements of jumping, sliding, and stomping on the field map.
*Highly-detailed 3D event scenes with voice-overs.
*Dozens of cameo appearances and other surprises for longtime fans of the series.

WILD ARMS 5 is scheduled for release in Q3 2007. The title was released in Japan on December 14, 2006 by Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios JAPAN Studio and developed by Media.Vision Entertainment Inc. The ESRB rating and suggested retail price will be announced at a later date.

Took them a while, but yeah they finally made some noise on the damn thing and I seriously can't wait for this game. happy.gif

Blast! One of the few times I come out of hiding and they beat me to it. I got the email today from XSEED announcing it. With one Wild ARMs game under their belt, they should be used to the coding that that Japanese team used, so maybe it will go faster! =D Either way, XSEED did a nice job with WA4, imo, so I believe they will continue on with this one as well. =D
Eva
I'm surprised it took that long for them to announce the game. Not surprised that XSEED releasing the game, like they did with 4, either. Since I am working, I'll will be picking this title up when it's released during third quarter of 2007. That's the fall, right? I can't wait. Literally, I might just buy that cheap Japanese import at PlayAsia. xd.gif
LagunaWannabe
I'm very happy biggrin.gif. I've only played Wild Arms 3 and part of Wild Arms 2, but I love the series' feel that it has. I've downloaded the entire soundtrack for the Vth Vanguard, and so far im in love with it. Im so psyched for this game, i really cant wait
Lost Seraphim
Wee. XSEED is definitely a company I've been keeping my eye on since its establishment. I actually don't mind at all that the HEX system is returning. It kept battles pretty diverse in 4, and the addition of switching party members during battle is sounding great. Definitely a game I'm looking forward to this year.
Jet_Enduro
Wow. A new game for me to play. Is the combo moves in WA4 still in WA5? I loved that feature.
SuggaluV
The release date in America is August 28, 2007 for Wild Arms 5. I have been checking on youtube for any japanese clips on the game, and i think this is gonna be a good one. I havent had experience with the hexagon battle system, but it looks a little fun, hopefully not too boring. Characters look good, im looking forward to this one, I passed on WA4 and only previewed WA3.
Crimson Cloud
They should at least put that you can control some other character during the non battle situations. I got tired looking at the same character in WA4.
I'm not pleased so far. I heard that there will be less whistling then ever.
Zanian
I'm sorry, but this I just had to add. ^^

Anywho, I'm still waiting for it to be released here (or anywhere near), I've had lots of fun with 1-4 and alter code: F, and I'm sure this won't be any exception.
Rudy06
I've looked at some of the other videos on YouTube and they show a, what I would call, Knight Blazer. Of course it is the main character, but it seems he in transformed into it at some point in the game and must find a way back, I assume. One video even shows the cowboy guy, forgot names, kicking him off a train. I think this is going to be a great Wild Arms.

Really? Isn't it just an alternative costume?
Rudy06
I don't know. But I mean he is in full knight blazer attire. Let me find a link...
Video
Some say it is just fanservice...but odd to not even show the face. If it is...COOL! lol...
Either way...COOL!
Sigs Minock
as long as the story and characters are better than those in WA4 i'll be happy. WA4 is the black sheep of the series.
Eva
It's just alternative costume. The Knight Blazer theme song play during battle while you're wearing the costume. It's just fan service, just like many costume you'll be able to change into in WA5.
LagunaWannabe
Wow I've never seen the Japanese videos before but htye actually look REALLY good. Whens the release date for WA5?? August of 07??? Soon I hop, it's been out in Japan forever lol

Looks fair, I hope there will be more supporting characters then the ones from WA4. And if you load the game will there be that opening intro? I find that little thing to be rather unique and gives pleasant feel like you are watching some anime.
LagunaWannabe
Yesss, I'm getting more excited by the second for this game. The soundtrack to this game is probably the best i've ever heard, and I just can't wait for the rest of it to come

That looks sexy. I hope it's not too expensive though.
I'm really looking forward to this game. The music from the trailers sounds great from what I've heard so far.
Sigs Minock
i preordered... so,.
i'm just hoping it's better than Wild ARMs 4. seriously.

You will not like Wild ARMs 5 if you did not like Wild ARMs 4. They're incredibly similar. If awesome world map exploration (think DQ8) would have saved WA4 for you, then that's the exception. Other than that, you're playing a very similar game.

i didn't like WA4 because of the story and characters. the game play was alright, but definitely could have been better.

I totally agree with you. WA4 could have been better, in a sense where I would like it more, if there were more supporting characters, better story with interesting twists and turns and definitely better ending. Battle system was good but wasn't balanced well and needed some more improvement. If these things are at least slightly better I shall enjoy Wild ARMs 5
LagunaWannabe
Well I've never known Wild ARMs to ever have an INCREDIBLY captivating storyline or cast of characters, so my expectations are kinda low for WA5, although I'm still pumped, one reason being, the Soundtrack is the best one I've ever heard. SO if the soundtrack is the best I've ever heard, and an improvement from the other games, hopefully the rest of the game will be as well.

Check out WA2 if you haven't.

It's a little off topic but, speaking of WA2, I heard that they will make a remake of that extraordinary game. Maybe I'm wrong, but maybe you guys know something about it?

Hasn't been announced or even hinted at by anyone at Sony or Media.Vision, so no, nothing in the works right now.

Where people are "hearing" this stuff is various forums and gossip hubs where one assclown speaks up and says something like "They remade part 1 into Alter Code F and now they HAVE to remake part 2!" And someone takes that to mean it's official, so he runs off from message board X to message board Y, and tells his buddies over there "I heard WA2 is being remade!" "Oh snap cool!" says someone over there, who takes this second-hand gossip as official confirmation (because he doesn't know any better and/or is a teenager) and runs directly back to message board X with his different screen name with his bright shiney "information." And the fish keeps getting bigger.

I've just seen this happen too, too many times.

Well the Original Creator expressed interest in it, Bomb. So I *really* wouldn't rule it out.

Link me.

And while, sure, we might not be able to rule something out entirely, we also can't assume with even 2% certainty that it's being created. This day and age, it does seem trendy to remake old games, but that doesn't mean all our favorites are getting the treatment. Especially when, at the very most, you've got one "sort of maybe kinda" quote from an obscure interview or something as the only running hope.

Plenty of creators have "expressed interest" in lots of things that never even make it off the drawing board.

I'm not trying to sit here and denounce any possibility of a WA2 remake ever happening, but I am saying that people keeping serious hope alive for it...well...

"Get used to disappointmet."

The last sentence. Of course it doesn't mean all that much but at least it's a thought.

Thank you.
I kinda wish the interviewers would have put his exact quote on that topic--that would have really helped determine the legitimacy and seriousness of the claim.

Well, this was like a year ago, and WA5 has been finished for a while. WA: XF also just shipped in Japan, so...I suppose in the slimslimslim chance plans exist...we'll be hearing about them soon.

My philosophy is the same with Suikoden VI and was with Front Mission 5. If we don't see it at TGS, we probably won't.
(of course, E3 with FM5.)

So yeah I capped like 30something screens. http://rpgland.com/content/?p=934

Also, here's a quick shot of a train going by during world map exploration. This forum is the first place I've linked this--not even on the site yet: http://rpgland.com/movies/wa5.avi
Athrun
Nice stuff. (Downloading the train clip) So what did you think of the game so far?
Bomb
It's pretty solid, for sure.
The battles seem identical to WA4 at first, but since every character and every enemy has the option to move before acting, things are a little more chaotic. So there's a little less actual strategy to the battles, but a little more "run and gun" if you get what I mean.

As well, while WA4 had only 4 playable characters in the game, and they were all in the fight at once, WA5 has a 6-member party, but only three are in the battle. One's turn must begin in an Escape hex to be able to swap out for another party member--like a combination of WA4 with FFX or BoF4.

Exploring the sprawling overworld is very, very fun. I love it. Only drag about it so far is that it's a little bit bogged down by a high rate of random encounters.

The story is a little odd so far. People who play games just for story probably won't be satisfied by this one's tale. I mean, it's the same stuff you've heard in 25 other games. Dean = cocky young adventurer simply seeking a cool journey. Rebecca = the token female co-lead trying to keep the male lead out of trouble. "Oh you silly male lead, won't you ever learn!" It's the same formula perpetuated in TV shows like Cosby, Home Improvement, King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, and countless other sitcoms, books, games, and movies. Spoiler tags just in case people get upset: Avril = girl who falls from the sky and has no memory. Greg = "tough guy" cowboy who knows how to fight and not much else.

And every once in a while, there are cuts to a bunch of guys in like, some spaceship or something talking in vague terms like "You still haven't found HIM!?" "What if HE gets loose!?" "HE might do THAT THING!" "Don't you remember THAT TIME 5 years ago!?" Etc. It's like, use some fijucking specifics, guys.

So yeah. Story sucks, but whatever. I say this because I mostly see story as a bonus in games, rather than play them for it, but I know that probably 50-60% of folks demand an epic tale in their games, so I'll talk about it and such.

I'll upload more videos when my connection isn't being so flakey, heh.
Rudy06
So...yup. Finally made my way to the local GameStop and preordered Wild Arms 5. =D So yup. The cool thing is I move into my dorm this Friday, which puts me approximately 20+ minutes closer to the GameStop I ordered it at. =D I will actually be living in a town! 0_0 No more country bumming for me. Hehe...But yup. Soon.

Oh, and thanks for the insight Bomb. I'm looking forward to it, even without a great story, even though that is my favorite part. But yup...1 week and counting.
sleepy
New to the forum, but not to Wild Arms. I've just pre-ordered WA5 (I had a tough time picking among Eternal Sonta, Blue Dragon, Or WA5 as I only have time for one game), I didn't even know it was coming out this soon until I surf this forum. Good stuff.

Now all I gotta do is get a PS2, or maybe PS3.

Looks more interesting then the first time I saw WA4. Yeah story is important to me but so is the atmosphere in the whole game. I played all the other games and this one will not be an exception. Looking forward to it. Thanx for the pics.
Sigs Minock
as long as the characters are good, i don't mind the story. that's what killed WA4- characters that couldn't carry the story.

also, that second screen- the girl with the parasol looks like Lilka from WA2.
Rudy06
I own it and have it in my hands. However...I can't play. My TV requires to be set to Tv/Vcr which can only be done, if I wish to play it. So until I go home and find my remote...=(. But hey...the artbook. =D All those pretty pictures.

Damn, that is worst than waiting to get the ordered game since you now have it in your hands. I'm waitting mine.
Rhadamanthus
I got it tonight. Given I'm addicted to Persona 3 I probably won't get into it until next month.

Here's hoping this ones a winner!
Sigs Minock
i'm in the same boat as Vinsfield- i'm currently enthralled in Persona 3. though i have played some of WA5.

I like how the Hex grid shifts during bossfights, thus including a little more strategy. Rebecca's voice is a bit irratating, but i'll get used to it.
Athrun
I'm the same as you guys. I have WA 5 but I'm addicted to Persona 3 at the moment.
Crimson Cloud
Thankfully I finished it before, and even had time to cool down. Next stop... Wild Arms 5......soon anyway... dry.gif

EDIT : Did any of you checked the review at gamespot? I don't know about you but that is one weird review. It seems like that reviewer was eather fed up with these sorts of games or the game is realy not what we expected.
TwinRoseARM
I check the WA5 website and i look dean profile...i found that dean have two ARMS one is twin fenier and te other is dark fenier
