Sooo yeah who're your favorite characters???
My absolute favorites:
1. Riku
2. Xaldin
3. Axel
Riku is by far a rival for my most favorite video game character ever. He's way deeper and been through so much as a character, he's so much more complex than Sora, and way more intruiging in terms of history, conflictions, and character art than almost any other Video Game character that I know of.
Xaldin is just cool, very calm and collected. I do like Xigbar's character design, but Xaldin is way more composed and badass.
Axel just has a very complex story. I can almost picture him as Riku. He's just looking to get his friend Roxas back, and his scheming and actions were always interesting to try to figure out. Definitely a great character

My favorites have to be:
1. Axel
2. Roxas
3. Leon
Axel is probably, other than Sora, who I hate because hes way too happy-go-lucky, the best developed character in the game, and also one of the better villains in the game. Roxas was cool, because he was like a more realistic version of Sora, which is kind of what I wanted from Sora, so I like Roxas. Finally, Leon, I liked because I liked Squall in FFVIII, and hes pretty cool in KH2

My absolute favorite is Axel, but here's the complete list:
1) Axel
2) Sora
3) Marluxia
4) Riku
5) Roxas
6) Leon
Axel. I love him. Period. When he died, I was so sad that I kinda just kept playing the game blankly, then when you find Riku as Ansem and Sora starts crying, I just started crying because it was all too much. : P
Sora. Main character, and the only person much of a goody-goody as I am. Therefore, he's my second favorite.
Marluxia. Anyone who can kick my ass with a Flower Gundam is awesome in my book.
Riku. Obviously, a great character. I like how he embodies the darkness, and uses it without letting it control him. He's the perfect foil for Sora.
Roxas. I felt so bad when he disappeared. Then it was another Sora crying = me crying moment. Well, not quite. But almost.
Leon. FFVIII is my favorite, so that's just my FFVIII fan inside speaking.

See I didn't see Axel as happy-go-lucky, he was complex, dangerous, and at his core, lonely. I thought it was a nice spin to find out his true motives behind everything.
And Roxas was okay, I can see why people would like him, but he didn't really stand out to me. And god help anyone who likes Sora, I think he's the most annoying character ever. Iguess I just look for more dark characters with that "cool" aura. I'm more for serious characters, ones with lots of depth. Sora was just always happy, letting Donald and Goofy stick their fingers up his bumhole as they ran around fighting thru DIsney worlds. The Organization, Riku, Ansem, it was all very mature and I guess the word is "cool" or alluring. I like that a lot, not just in KH but in most games i.e. The characters in Crisis Core, Luc Yuber Albert Siverberg in Suikoden 3, Squallin FF8, Basch, Vossler, Al-Cid in XII. Just characters that are cool and realistic.
Sora and Roxas just didn't do it for me. The whole acting like you're 13 thing didn't cut it. ANd it was especially weird to see a grown up RIku next to a little kid looking Sora in KH2. I dunno, just IMO

1. Riku
2. Axel
3. Roxas
4. Namine
Riku was always my favorite characters, but after Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts 2, Axel quickily became my second favorite. Px
Roxas and Namine tie for third, I really like both of them.

Lols, I voted but I can't even remember who I exactly voted for.
Well for sure I voted for King Mickey. Toward the latter part of the game, he helped so much with the boss battles right when I'm about to die. GO MICKEY, you save me from being pwnt hard. :D
My other choice was....another character. I think I was fond of the FF crew that popped up in the game, such as Yuffie and Cid. I didn't really like the main characters of Kingdom Hearts....something about the entire crew really bothered me.

So, what are you saying? : \ I'm a lot like Sora in a lot of ways, and I'm a real person. I have yet to meet anyone like Squall, Al-Cid, and Basch in real life. I wouldn't call that character type realistic. The reason they're so awesome (I do agree that Basch, Squall, and Al-Cid rock) is because they're cool, collected, honorable, and courageous... unlike a lot of real people.
I'm not trying to start a fight, I'm just saying that I don't think Sora is very unrealistic, using myself as an example.
And, for the record, I do not hold my friends' hands and jump around in circles... and a lot of other silly things that Sora does (like bash on computers... when he did that, I was like, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING, YOU FOOL?!?!?). It's just that I value friendship more than anything, and I still have some smarminess about me, as Sora does.

Hahah I wrote my message as an incomplete thought. I didn't mean Sora's views on friendship, or how good always wins was unrealistic. Not at all, I actually did like that (I was more upset with his persona), but I didn't at all disagree with that.
The quote that you referenced up above, THATS the unrealistic and dumb stuff Sora did that I couldn't stand lol. Sora's morals aren't all that bad, but he's just WAY too goofy, silly, and i dunno.... "young child-like". That's more what I meant.
Like, when I view characters, yeah I look at what they stand for and what they say, but if somebody just looks kinda silly and does stuff like we've mentioned, in my mind it just like, discredits anything they stand for lol. Which is a fault on my part, but I just can't help it.
Like, for example, when I think of other characters like that, I think of Donald and Goofy for sure, but from other games I think of like.. Steiner (Always hopping up and down waving his arms in the air when he's mad making dumb faces and stuff), like he was a loyal knight but his whole appearance and actions killed it.
Another I'm thinking of right now would be Cait Sith (except he didn't really do that many things that were as moral or true as Sora did), but that kind of character.
And believe it or not, it's one of the reasons why I don't like Vivi. Vivi had some internal issues, and that was cool and all, but the whole "midget wizard who waddles around who's already a really young person" thing bothered me. It really took away from what Vivi stood for.
That's more what I meant by Sora. He had the potential to do so much more, and this is partially why I HATE DISNEY in these games, because they threw in random corny silly goofy stuff like we've mentioned, and it took away from who they really were or what they were fighting for. Like, it's not comedic relief, it's just plain out of place.

Ahaaaaaaa, I seeeeee. In that case, we're in perfect agreement. I can forgive more of the silly stuff than you, apparently, but it still bugs me at times as well. Heh. And yes, I blame Disney for it, too. : P
I did like Steiner, though... Beatrix filled the "honorable knight" slot for me more than he did, I think. And Vivi bothered me for the same reason. I like Vivi, but when people "OMG I love Vivi he's awesome!" I kind of reply with a noncomittal "eh..." because I do like Vivi, battle-wise and black-mage-prototype-wise, but I just didn't like how he waddled around like that and fell down all the time. : \

Hahaa okay good, I really hope I hadn't offended you, but I can see that we're at least in agreement. Yeah personally, I think Riku is absolutely one of my favorite video game characters of all time. Delita is my absolute favorite, and Laguna is 2nd but as of late he's been falling behind down the chain (To Squall and AlC-Cid), but Riku is definitely my number 2 and is INCHES away from being my number 1.
Like, first off. Disregard EVERYTHING we know about Riku. He just looks cool. And things like character art REALLY enthrall me. It's partially why I'm a Sephiroth fanboy. But his whole organization coat, the long silver hair, and the thing that REALLY did it for me, was the blindfold. I thought the blindfold was so pimp, i LOVED Riku's art when he had that.
And now, his history. I mean, he's the original keyblade wielder, yet his heart conflicted with darkness. He's been through so much, I can't even begin to name it all. But he went over to Maleficient, had his heart shrouded in darkness, was a tool for unlocking hearts, closed the doors to Kingdom Hearts, got lost in the darkness and was helped by Mickey (Which is actually cool. Mickey is WAY better than Donald/Goofy). He came out and decided to look for Sora. He went through the whole shpiel of Castle Oblivion where he fought his way up alone vs the Organization members and then to Ansem's heartless himself. Then he started to change into Ansem's heartless, fought Roxas, did the whole Organization coat thing where he pretended, became even more shrouded in dark and light, and eventually fights Sora in a kickass battle, actually taking a damaging blow for Sora. The two finally chill on the Door to Light, and get bak.
I mean, Riku went thru SO much stuff, and the whole darkness concept with good intentions thing was awesome, and just everything else. Definitely one of my favorites ever.

Mar 27 2007, 12:15 PM
Oh no, you didn't offend me. ^_^ I was just making sure that I thought what you thought; I didn't think it was like, a direct attack on me, or anything. And in my post I did say I like Sora's values, not his silliness, so all's well. Don't worry about it.
While Riku is definitely a cool character, without Sora, he loses a lot of his appeal and becomes a cliche character. Comparing him to Sora, however, makes him very awesome indeed. He would be very cliche in any game but Kingdom Hearts, but since he IS in it, he's perfect at what he does as a character.
My favorite is Axel; I could go on forever and ever about how much I like him and why, but it would probably just be a huge drabble that basically summarizes every scene Axel is in, and reads into into them way more than a non-Axel-fan would care. X D
Ah, and you should know that I LOVE Laguna. Best FFVIII character. And character design is extremely important to me, as well. It can make me forgive the worst, most annoying characters in the world, and make me hate the coolest characters ever. Finding an awesome character with a cool design is magical. Heh.

Couldn't put them in any particular order, but I've gotta say:
Riku
Kairi
Goofy
Roxas
Other Disney:
- Beast
- Jack Skellington
Riku, I've always liked. He generally acts and speaks more maturely than Sora, and he's sort of the behind-the-scenes hero (especially in the second game). I think I like him more in KH2 than in the first game, though. (Didn't play enough of CoM to see much of him.) I also like his character design in KH2, and he's (spoiler?)
a great character in battle.
Kairi... Well, I've just always kinda had a thing for her. ^^; Wish you could play as her at some point.
Goofy is just awesome.

He's always there for comedic relief, and he's a tank in battle. In KH2, he's also got a few oddly wise comments. Haha. (
I was pissed when he got nailed by that rock. Good thing he didn't actually die. ^^;)
Roxas I like, 'cause he's kinda like a slightly more mature, more angsty Sora. I also really like his character design, like his outfit. (One day, I'll have to make his outfit. Hah.) Ever since I first saw the KH2 opening, I thought he seemed like a cool character. (To be honest, I thought he was just an older Sora, before I knew of Roxas' existence. But even after learning about Roxas, I still liked his character.) I wish you got to play as him more, though, especially after he starts to dual-wield in his last fight with Axel. (I
really liked his attack combos when dual-wielding, too. The animation was great.)
Beast is a beast. 'Nuff said.
Jack Skellington is just a cool dude, I guess. I mostly like him in battle, though.

One of the main reasons why Riku is my favorite character in any game, Besides Delita Hyral. But it's because RIku did SO much behind the scenes, and HIS journy IMO was more interesting than Sora's. How he was sealed in Kingdom Hearts with Mickey, but first went through all the stuff where he became overwhelmed with Darkness. Then he made it to Castle Oblivion and single handedly defeated 3 of the Organization members, and then overcame Ansem once again. Then he also met Diz and needed to find Roxas. And so he fought him, didnt win, embraced darkness, won. Turned into Ansem, etc etc, helped Sora come back, etc etc. There's just SO MUCH that he did, that he's easily my favorite character. His depth is incredible because he's SO dark, yet there's some light in him, creating that "twilight" aura which i loved.

Yeah, seriously. It was obvious that he went to such risks just to help Sora and Co. I mean, hey, he disguised himself as an Organization member in order to gather info and such. (Also stole money from Roxas and had a stick thrown at him for good measure, but that's not the point!)
I also liked the fact that in Chain of Memories, he did refuse to go through the same process as Sora to get rid of the 'darkness in his heart'. He did it on his own, absolutely refusing any addition help aside from moral support. Especially considering how much the mere idea of it bugged him.
Not saying Sora is weak, but it just goes to show that not only did Riku want to deal with his own problems, but he also took on others at the same time. Pretty admirable on his part. :]
It also did good for his personality, too. (A lot of people say he became a bit on the EMO side, but daaaaang that's SO not true) He humbled out, big time. He probably shows the most character development out of the three (Sora, Riku, and Kairi) since when you compare him to how he was in Kingdom Hearts 1 where he was more foolhardy, haughty, arrogant, and, above all, selfish, he mellowed out a lot.
Basically to say, I found him the most human. I think that's why he stuck with me starting from the beginning. Sora just didn't really change at all; he's pretty flat, I think.

Put my thoughts into words for me. It was the fact that Riku was all alone and faced it himself (But he DID have Mickey to help him at times, which isn't bad cause Mickey is WAY better than Donald and Goofy), but he was this like, independant loner type. And no he's not emo at ALL. He was completely torn between darkness and good, because remember in KH1, he ultimately wanted to find and save Kairi also? Except his methods were different. So he was like, torn apart by his feelings.
And he most DEFINITELY shows the most character development. He changed so much, grew up so much, talks so different. He used to be a little more arrogant and uppity, but now he's like, calmed down, and mellowed down.
And like, it was so sad how he didn't want Sora to find him when he turned into Ansem. Cause that means he didn't want Sora to see the sacrifice that Riku had to make, and he was ashamed of what happened. And basically, that means that he did something INCREDIBLE for his best friend, without ever wanting credit. Because if he wanted credit, he woulda gone and told Sora, but by not telling him, it means he wasn't expecting any thanks of recognition, he just wanted his friend to be okay. Which is unbelievably awesome.
And just a point, this wasn't any kinda of homosexual or yaoi concept, but one of my favorite scenes, is when Kairi is with Sora and Riku as Ansem, and Riku just starts to walk away back to the darkness while Kairi and Sora are happy. But then Kairi rushes over to him and shouts that it's Riku. And Sora just like, walks over dumbfounded, closes his eyes and sees it's his best friend, and then just collapses to his knees holding Riku's hand and starts to cry. And he's just like, "Riku.. It's Riku... I looked everywhere for you." As tears are streamin down his cheeks. That scene like, did it for me, cause both games were so focused on saving Riku and getting things back to the old way. I LOVED that scene hahaha

I also saw with Kairi as another measure of competition with Sora. He was very competetive in KH1 whenever it came to Sora, as was seen at almost every event with him in the game. At the same time, almost each and every time, he was struck down by Sora, hurting his pride.
After all, back on Destiny Islands, he was the best at every thing. All the kids looked up to him and he wanted to hold onto that. So, whenever he saw a chance to reclaim that with Sora (who not only seemed to be getting better than him, but he saw as being completely replaced and unneeded with the company of Donald and Goofy), he was practically struck down with either actions or words, even if they weren't intended to be that way.
So yeah, his feelings were pretty much a mess, but that's what made him so human. Sora didn't seem to let things with Riku (and Kairi, up until after Hallow Bastion) bother him, which didn't really make him very believable.

Indeedy! :]
He had to let that darkness into his heart, but in a different sense this time around. It was more like he didn't want Sora to see him until he was able to reclaim his body. After all, seeing Ansem!Riku is pretty shocking and unbelievable to see at first.
I'd say, it wasn't necessarily anything about credit since I'm sure that he still had some pride where he'd want at least a little recognition for his efforts, but just not until he was able to look like Riku, again.

Heheheh, even though I'm a shounen-ai fan, I did appreciate that scene on a platonic level, too. Both games had a lot to do with reuniting the original trinity, again, but the main purpose for Sora in KH2 was to find Riku, more than anyone else. He did have a chance to go back to Destiny Islands at the end of KH1, but gave it up in favor of his best friend, who was still missing at the time.
So meeting up with him at a completely unexpected time and at the same as Kairi probably just caused Sora to let loose all inhibitions (that kind of sounds dirty, but I can't exactly think of anything better at 8AM...@_@) and crumble. Poor kid.

I would have to say taht my favorite is sora, not because he's the main character, because he's the one that fell into the darknees and came right back out, rikku gave himself to the darknees in order to save kairi, sora on the other hand saved her without the power of darkness.
Don't get me wrong, Rikku's cool and all, just his methods where kinda not cool.

A lot of people say Riku just because he's "hot." <__<
I Would've picked Riku in the first game as one of my favorites, because his character was the most complex, but in the second game his character still hadn't developed as much. At least we got to see him on the downfall in KH1. So, for KH2, I'd have to say Roxas, first off. Because how they put him into the storyline was kind of cool, and the beginning with Twilight Town is fun with all the side games and such. Axel was fvcking rad, though the ending was saddening. And then of course, number three would of course be the main character. Because Sora is just awesome. [Excluding any Little Mermaid level. Fvck that.]

whaaaaat, how can you say that? It's BECAUSE of KH2 that he got so deep. After KH1 when u play Chain of Memories u see him all by himself going thru the tower fighting his inner darkness. And when KH2 comes along, he was approached by Ansem and told to get Roxas. So he fights Roxas but loses. He decides he must use his darkness to beat him, so Riku accepts the darkness and turns into Anselm again. He does this all so he can help reawaken Sora and get his friend back. Then throughout the game he helps Sora by giving them tips and hints and stuff, but never revealing who he is.
THEN, when Sora finds out it's Riku under the hood, Sora says something like, "I looked everywhere for you!" And Riku replies, "I didnt want to be found". Meaning, he did all this for Sora, and never expected Sora to find out what he did for him. He was so unselfish about it.
Riku is definitely one of the deepest characters I've seen in a video game. And if u just like, look at his height compared to Sora and Kairi when he's revealed to be Ansem, he's like 2 feet taller than them. I think he's purposely that tall to symbolize how much he's grown beyond the others and he's now this huge imposing figure showing his change physically.

I finally beat KH 2, so now I can go and give who my favorite characters were. I blacked out some things I thought were spoilers. If they weren’t and are common knowledge, apologies for making you work to read it (and sorry if I ramble) >.o
1.) Axel is my favorite character from KH 2, just because, well, what his character is. He was always rather suave, which made you like him, and there was a sort of longing he had that was always brought out in the way he acted. Well, Nobodies want hearts, so that’s understandable, but the closeness he had to Roxas and the way he acted when Roxas left gave him that sort of...fire/fuel?
I dunno, out of all the Organization XIII members, he seemed to have more going for him, I guess. He even ended up leaving Organization XIII in his own little “quest for Roxas” I guess you could say. I guess that made him have more of a personal motivator that made him all the more appealing as a character. None of the other members (with a few exceptions) seemed to have much behind them in that respect, so I guess Axel just stuck out because of the way he was made and all that.
2.) Roxas is another one of my favorites, even though there really wasn’t a whole lot really made around him in the game, I guess. He comes in as the main character at the beginning when you’re in Twilight Town, and the mystery that ends up surrounding him is what makes the story interesting and all. Though, it was (in mine and my brother’s eyes) rather predictable that he’d end up being Sora/his Nobody, I guess the thing I liked about him was that he sort of worked together with his actual “original”, I guess. Namine did as well, but like Ansem for example, his Nobody went and did things on its own. So what I’m trying to say is, I liked Roxas because he was so like his original/Sora.-
3.) I actually didn’t mind Sora that much in either of the games. I guess I can give him lee-way for acting stupid at times to the fact he’s fifteen (I think?), but I will admit I got annoyed by it after a while. I dunno. He may not have gotten as much character development as other characters, but I guess he didn’t really need it. He was sort of the natural leaders, so what he did influenced other people’s actions. I dunno. He could get annoying, but it was his drive to do good that kept a lot of things falling apart (if that makes sense? >.>)
4.) Riku. Like Laguna said in his last post, Riku was never really selfish about anything. He ended up doing a lot of things, like turning into Ansem by accepting the darkness, just to help Sora and he never wanted him to know. I mean, I guess he could have been selfish because he didn’t want Sora to see what he’d become, but it never came off (to me) that way. I dunno. He was one of those characters who overcame his own shortcoming, being on the “wrong” side in KH 1, and made a comeback by helping Sora.
I guess I’ve said enough. I could add more, but I don’t want to go on and on just because I don’t want to bore anybody >.o So yeah, those are my top four favorites that I’ll name right now.

My three favorite characters are
1. Riku
2. Leon
3. Axel
Riku plays an amazing part in the storyline of Kingdom Hearts I & II. The ways in which he turns the tables is greatly drawn out. Sense beating the first Kingdom Hearts Riku has continued to draw my attention.
I chose Leon because well, he's the man.

He also plays an important role within the storyline drawing out his intelligence and strength through out several parts of the game.
Axel was chosen because of his part played in the story. You can not help but get emotional over what he has gone through and is just one of those characters that you can not resent.

Riku- he's my most favorite character because i think he's awsome. i also love his personality. i remember when i was playing KH2, i was ticked off because so far, i didnt see riku at all. i was really suprised when he showed up at the end.
Axel- he's really funny and energetic. i hate what happend to him! T-T
Kaire- shes cool in part two! in part one she was kinda...bleh. lol
other=zexion- i donno why but he's just awsome. but his role was so small.

I quite like these:
1] Sora
2] Cloud
3] Leon
I have always been fans of Cloud and Squall(Leon) and in Kingdom hearts they seem even more awesome.

1. Sora
2. Roxas
3. Axel
I don't get how people fave character like leon, sephiroth, cloud and etc in a KH game. Those people are not original from KH so voting for them in KH seem to be unfair for other characters in KH. As you know Cloud, Leon, and etc are characters from famous games and if you voting for them, it be because you already like them from the others game, not originally from KH.

Riku
Sora
Kairi
Riku: Is just a badass. He's a realist, following what he believes with the power he has achieved. Yes, he becomes manipulated because of it, but he is just trying to accomplish the goals that he truly believes in. In the first Kingdom hearts, I respected him as a rival, (within the game,) while in Chain of Memories, I thought of him as someone finding out his true goal in life, which is something many people seem to consider unimportant, in my own experiance. With his role in Kingdom Hearts 2, I finally found him as a character that was using all of his power to help his best friend. Just taking on the role of becoming a face in the back, willingly, is something very respectable, in my own mind.
Sora: He's the protaganist and you get to know him relatively well. By the end of the game, if you pay attention to his decision making and goals, you can almost tell what he's going to do in many hypothetical situations. He's a very silly character with childish tendencies, yes, but behind all of that he holds onto his own morals and goals more deeply than anything else in existance. He has a clear view on what wants and is willing to fight to attain it, if that's the only way of doing so.
Kairi: I've always been a sucker for the main female role in any game...Dagger in FF9, Yuna in FFX, Rinoa in FF8. I just think it's because you get to see who they are and what they're trying to accomplish more than most other characters. I have to say that in other games, I had a greater attachment to the female role than I do kairi, but she's definetly a good character in my eyes.

Damn i hit vote just as i saw axel.
but mine are mickey and axel. Axel for obvious "he's such a dude" reasons, but mickey was more because you saw a side to mickey you never thought existed. On top of that the makers put a lot of effort into making mickey, whom you would normally assume to be a pretty lame character given his 'good two shoes' appearance, quite a powerful and all knowing figure which i liked as a twist to his character.
edit -Jack skellington too lol, always liked him

It's funny that the favorites are the obvious characters.. Sora, Riku, Axel, Roxas. Which means character development must be better in the next game to avoid having only 1 or 2 or 3 characters being the mainstream favorites.

Heh. There are a number of Organization members that I like, storywise, but the main characters and the characters around them are usually the primary choices anyways...
Mickey was awesome too, it's just he was only there for minutes at a time and he was just seemed annoying. No matter what quest he claimed to be on, the fruits of his efforts were never shown, so it was kinda like he wasn't important.

Haha, yeah. I’m one of those people who only put those people in my post. =p. I have loads of other favorites other than those four though, but I didn’t list them because I figured my post would get too long (and some of these others I actually like
more than the ones in my post...yet I didn't put them down. >.>). Beast, Jack Skellington, Namine, and the Org. XIII member who shouts “Dance, water, dance!” would have been on my list as well (along with maybe one or two others). I just figured I’d stick with the
main characters, to go with a shorter post. Beautiful logic (or lack-thereof...). =).
However, it would help people’s impressions if they (game creators) gave some of the others more screen time. >.o. Kind of like what DragonsVenom said with Mickey, people appear and then they’re gone, and unless they make a pretty darn good impression on you the first time, you’re not likely to think much of them since not much is
said about them...That’s just my opinion though. =). But, you’re always going to have those mainstream favorites in any game no matter what...It’s just natural, haha...

You actually liked that damn Organization XIII son of a bitch? I completely loathed him....stupid water clone things.

Why oh why did they put Chain of Memories on gameboy? I went straight to KH2 and didn't really know what was going on... at all

so my favourite character ended up being Roxas, as he was the reason for me finishing the game, he was a great starting protagonist, who just randomly dissapears... I wanted to know where the hell he went

hopefully I'll get my hands on chain of memories one day.

As much as people loath the game, the story of it isn't terrible. Sure, going through floors in a castle in search of things you have no proof are there seems a bit rash, but overall, it isn't that bad. Granted, the battle system is really annoying, but once you get a couple good decks, based on either Sonic Blade, or simply high cards with zeros and heals, the game becomes far more entertaining.
