Does anyone else like making Gummi ships?

When I played the first Kingdom Hearts I completely ignored building Gummi ships until I reached the very end of the game and had all Gummi ship parts. (I thought I would be wasting them if I used them on weaker models early on.)
When I started building one (and had all the parts) I regreted not doing it earlier, because it was fun. So this time when playing KH 2 I started building right away.
Unfortunitely the game has a limit of how much your Gummi ship can cost. Or rather, I think the limit is a bit low, even though you can upgrade it a bit.
But I think the Gummi ship aspect of the game is a lot more fun in KH 2 than it was in the original game. Lots of extra stages, bonus items to win and such. And I like many of the new weapons. I just got one that fires two auto targetting beams. Very useful for getting a higher rank. And I like the idea of the Miniships.

In KH 1 I made a Gummi ship that looked like the Durandal from Xenosaga. I haven't tried to build any specific looking ship yet in KH 2, but I found pictures of some nice models online.

Someone made Balloo's ship from Tale Spin.
If I manage to make a special ship I'll take some pictures.

Hashaha I thought Gummi Ships were okay, I loved that part of the game though because it reminded me of Star Fox for 64 hahaha..

Personally, what I'd REALLY like to see, is instead of selecting a world and then moving there, and flying the distance between the two, I'd love to see an Outer Space world map. Where you fly around, and like, have to find planets and stuff. Cause that way you can discover, like, secret planets and etc, maybe find special items in outer space, etc, i like that idea a lil more.

I ignored the Gummi Ship system until the very end too, for the same reason. X D Once I started, it took a long time to get used to the system, because there were so many new options that all the old controls had changed. I thought it was going to be as easy as the system from the first game (I was really good at it), so when I found myself stumbling over the controls I got a little peeved and gave up quickly. Then, since the completionist in me wouldn't rest without at least partial mastery of the Gummi system, I picked it up again. This time, it wasn't as hard as I thought; maybe I was a little cranky the first time I tried it or something.

Anyway, I think the limit on the ships is too low, too. I miss the first one, when you could put whatever you wanted on the ship, so long as you had the Gummi. It's understandable though, since there are so many new thingies you can put on it, but still, I wish I could do more with it. I'd rather work super-hard to get maxed-out stats than have to pick and choose between strengths, but this game doesn't let me do that. : \ Oh well. It's still fun; the limit is my only complaint. It's better than flying through spinning rings over and over again. : P

Starfox, sweeeeeeeeet. :D But I like the suggestion about roaming outerspace. Sounds freakishly awesome, and I think point-and-click worlds are such a pity.

I didn't really concentrate on gummi ships until halfway through KH1. I LOVED the system, with the shooting and collecting things and whatnot. It was really fun, and added a different element to the game. I forgot why, but I recall not enjoying it so much in KH2. :s

True Rune
No, never bothered with it because I thought it was stupid.

I didn't like KH1 Gummi ships. I remember for the sake of survival, I built a pretty huge block bars that I can't barely see it as a "ship".

I thought Gummy Ships of KH2 were better. More blueprints, weapons, stuff, etc. And something good happens if you can collect 25 medals or more. I don't remember. Super invicible!

Man, I went absolutely nuts with the Gummi Ships in KH2. I messed with them more than many did in the first game, but once I got the hang of things in the KH2 setup, and I was bored enough to try playing through more of the missions, I discovered that it's actually a very entertaining mini-game, and I started customizing left and right. I've got, like, five or six custom ships around, and a handful of custom Teeny Ships (though I generally only use one or two of them). I've been wanting to grab photos of them, but haven't gotten around to it. As soon as I remember to, I'll be sure to share some.

One ship I made, specifically for the Level 3 Dreadnought mission, was named "Bigass Block." Ya know what it looked like? =P It's just a giant, white box, loaded with HP and shields of sorts, making it a tank that could take quite a beating. The only weapon I had on it was a Drain, which absorbs enemy lasers and returns the damage when you fire it. The thing absolutely destroys when it's fully charged. The fight at the end of the level was a rather long one, but once I had a strategy setup, and my ship was hooked up the way I needed it to be, I eventually made it through. Man. That's one helluva Gummi Ship battle, so be warned, upon entering the Level 3 Dreadnought mission.

I've only played the first Kingdom Hearts but I never touched the Gummi ship much. For the first few worlds I just tied a rubber band around the X button and left it... I took damage but I always got to the end. I tried upgrading my ship but I just found it tedious and boring. In the end I always just used my original ship from beginning to end.

I'm Very much hoping you can do the same with KHII becuase the Gummi ship was one aspect of the game I couldn't care less about.

I used the gummi system in KHI a little more then in KHII. I didn't much care for it. I thought it was... alright, but not the best aspect of the game.

Finally grabbed pics of my ships. I'll thumbnail 'em, so they don't take up too much space. Just click 'em to view them in full size.

Black Mass

Was, and pretty much still is, my primary ship. It's gotten several upgrades since the beginning, but this is its final model. When I've got it teamed up with a pair of Teeny Ships, it pretty much annihilates. biggrin.gif
(Named after the Danzig song.)

Eva

I admit that I actually don't use this one very often, but maybe I should... I forget what its performance is like. I think I had to use one Cost Converter, so it can only support one Teeny Ship. Might've used up both, though. Not sure.
(Modeled after the Whizzing Arrow, from Ōban Star-Racers, and named after the main character of the same show.)

Bigass Block

Here it is, haha. Its description is in the post above this, but I forgot one thing: The Drain isn't the only weapon, as it's also got two Thunders (laser gummis) and four Gungnirs (impact gummis) built into it. Not sure if you can tell, but it's actually like a ship inside of a box, rather than a unified block. Oh yeah, it's also got a handful of supportive abilities like Auto-Regen and Auto-Life, to help it take more damage while it's charging the Drain gummi. Bwahaha. *eh-hem* Anywho...

Juggernaut

When I got the Invincible Peak model, I thought it had a really cool design, so I made one using the Invincible Peak as a base. Made a ton of changes, of course. I'm pretty sure it only required one Cost Converter, so it can still support one Teeny Ship. The main ship is armed with an Excalibur (slash), Blizzara and Firaga (cannons), Gungnir (impact), and Ultima (laser). The Ultima is pretty much its main source of attack power, though, which is kind of a weakness. However, it can definitely take a good amount of damage, and it's got backup weapons like the Gungnir (most powerful impact gummi) and the Excalibur (decent slash gummi), plus whatever Teeny Chip accompanies it.
(Named after the Juggernaut, from the X-Men series... and the parody videos.)

Deathguise

This one, I just made out of boredom. I threw a bunch of pieces together, didn't bother to recolor them, and this was the result. I basically wanted to see how many cannons I could build into one ship, and still have it be a pretty decent ship. After a few upgrades, I threw in some other weapon gummis (two Infinity slash gummis and a just about every impact gummi I have) and made some other adjustments to it, but this is the final product. It's actually not too bad, though it could be better. Used two Cost Converters, so no Teeny Ships. It looks pretty monstrous (especially because of the white parts, which resemble claws), so I though a name like Deathguise was appropriate.
(Named after the Deathguise enemy from the Final Fantasy series.)

Terabyte

Another one I made simply out of boredom. I wanted to make a circular/spherical ship, though this was the closest I could get without it sucking. ^^; Some impact gummis, some cannons, some lasers... It's pretty balanced out in the weapon area. Pretty sure it takes some good damage, and it's equipped with shields for both types of attacks, which helps. I think it took both Cost Converters, so no Teeny Ships for this one. For whatever reason, I made it look all computer-esque and named it Terabyte. *shrug* Think of it as a Tron-based ship, I suppose.

I've made a handful of Teeny Ships, but I generally only use two or three of them.

Teeny Ships: Fat Man & Little Boy

I originally made these two to work alongside the Black Mass, though I occasionally use 'em for other ships as well. I can't even remember if Teeny Ships can use laser gummis correctly, so I dunno how effective Little Boy is. Nowadays, I mostly find myself using the Black Mass with two Fat Man teeny ships. Having dual scatter-shots plus the cannons already on it it lethal, especially when I set them up in one of those rotating formations. Everything on the screen dies, haha. And for "bosses," I get them to spin around really close together right in front of the main ship, resulting in a star-shaped stream of bullets aimed at a single target. 8]
(Named after the nukes dropped in Japan. *shrug* Not sure why I named them that. Fat Man came to mind first, so I figured I'd make a second one called Little Boy.)

Teeny Ship: Shadow

I think this one was inspired when I got the Meteor weapon gummi. Not much to explain here, but it works pretty well, in my opinion. Shoots out a few homing lasers while I'm shooting normal shots with my main ship, so they come in handy. I sometimes use two Shadow models with Black Mass (often when I'm item hunting), though I usually pair one up with the Juggernaut, too.
(Named and modeled after the Shadow Heartless.)
Ragnarok
I found it entertaining to build a good one and test it out. I guess there really never was a need to have a good one because hyperspeed came rather early and after that I never used the ships, but taking them for a spin to the next level was kinda fun and a neat little mini-game sorta thing. I never really took the time to make a really cool unstoppable baddass one, but I made a decent one at one point that worked pretty nicely for the short time that I had to use it before hyperspeed jumps were available.
YourSweet666
I like building gummies, I know in KH1 my ship is maxed out with Lasers (Ultima ftw) and shield gummies, I can either blast or ram anything on the gummy routes because it's more or less indestructible. I found the freedom during it all great, there are so many different ship types you can create.

And I'm not sure which game's system is better. While KH2's definately looks better and is more fun, it's also harder to keep track of everything so it can be a pain sometimes.
Dragon Brigade
I'm playing the first Kingdom Hearts right now and the gummi ships are okay. I tried building one, but it was way too confusing for me XD I have a lot of parts and stuff for them, but I doubt I'm going to be doing much upgrading and what-not. Once I advance on to the second game I might, but otherwise I doubt I'll even touch my gummi ship anymore (aside from traveling).
