Suikoden 1 and 2 for sure. I believe this topic MIGHT be in the wrong spot, but oh well, I'll reply here.

The reason why? Suikoden 1 came to America in April of 1997. Final Fantasy VII came out in 1997. When FFVII came out, many other RPGs were swept under the carpet, Wild Arms 1 and Suikoden 1 to name two. And so Suikoden 1 was overshadowed by FF7. And then it took Konami 2 more years to come out with Suikoden 2, so it wasn't as big as it could have been, because the Suikoden series is easily one of the best RPG series of all time.

o i see your saying because finalfantasy 7 came out at the same time as suikoden it was overshadowed by finalfantasy 7

For some reason the FF games get waaay more exposure than anything else, and they aren't even all that great, I think they're highly over-rated! I agree with Laguna... The Suikoden games seem to be very under-rated. Personally, the Suikoden games are much more interesting than the FF games. Mayhap because FF doesn't have much humor. I hate it when games--or anything for that matter--take themselves too seriously.

Another game I think was under-rated was Fire Emblem..Been around a long time, and not getting much exposure=SAD.

Pokemon Red and Blue

they were the 1st ones, they were different than all other rpg's, you could trade monsters with others and battle them, and it was fun to train them. It was so fresh. Too bad the cartoons, cards, and a dozen rehashed games killed it.

hmmm i did like pokemon at one time i have to admit and my voice inside tells me they show have stopped at 150 not 1500000000000 pokemon

I would say Xenogears but it was actually rated quite well, its just sad how so few have it or even know of it. I still blame FF. However, I think the last Xenosaga was under rated. The battles were a big improvement from the second but were quick yet with challenging bosses, fantastic graphics and a close to an unsurmountable story that reviewers simply cannot comprehend!

I sort of went with what others have said about bringing the series to a close. I still haven't beaten the game. >_<

I think most underrated game is vanguard bandits. I think vanguard bandits is very interesting adventure with all these ATACS(armors) which looked like big robots. Gameplay is very good. Too bad that there will not be vanguard bandits 2 (I think much rpg players even don't know what is vanguard bandits. Give it a try)

Xenogears, though rated quite well, still was VERY Underrated, for it was one of the most Wonderful RPGs I've ever played and my personal Favorite. It gave so much attention to every Character's Past and their connctions with Eachother, just pure amazing.

Also, I agree with Exire that Xenosaga Ep.III Was quite Underrated, wonderful game biggrin.gif

FFIX is an underrated game overall, it just isn't thought as highly as others like VII, VIII or even X. Doesn't seem to have quite as strong of a fanbase either. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but it seemed to be missing something that the other FF's had...I'm still not sure exactly what that is though. Maybe it was the main character having a monkey tail.

Hm...you sure this should be in the 'Games Forum'? I can see this topic possibly becoming more of a discussion topic the longer it goes for.

Final Fantasy 1: It's a fun NES RPG that no FF fan ever thinks about.

Golden Sun : the lost age - got totally over shadowed by the first game for some reason, always found this one the better of the two though - best handheld RPG by far (tales of eternia not with standing - but that was originally PSX)
Platinum Shadow
Legend of Dragoon.

What an amazing game. Came out at around the same time as FFVIII and I think it equals FFVIII. The game had (OK) voice acting, different styles of attacks, in-battle transformations and some good looking cutscenes.

The game was amazing and for something that was made by Sony, I was really proud of it.

I've got agree with others in regard to FF9 being under rated, on the PS1 I prefered 7 and 9 but I definitely liked it more than FF10 and FF12.

Enchanted Arms isn't the greatest rpg ever but it certainly deserves a look. Yes ok it has a cliche linear plot with a very familiar setting but the game as whole is quite fun once you get past the 6-7 hour point, then it starts picking up. EA is by no means a classic but it is an enjoyable game and worth a purchase if you see it cheap. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 5 being average I would give it a 7. If you have a PS3 and a 360 then get the 360 version as due to a lazy port by the developers the PS3 version doesn't quite look as good.

The Shadow Hearts series are great games that didnt sell amazingly well. The same goes for Suikoden, Grandia, SMT and the Tales games. All easily some of the best Japanese RPG series out there but are criminally overlooked in terms of sales.

When you think about it almost every Japanese RPG that isn't Final Fantasy struggles to get a number one in Western or US games charts or a rating higher than a 9 out of 10, which completely baffles me. Tales Of The Abyss is a good example on average reviewers didn't give it higher than a 7 or an 8, but almost every rpg fan who has played it loved it and rated it higher than FF10 or 12, which got 9's and 10's.

Phantasy Star- If the Sega Master System had gained more popularity, we'd all be playing Phantasy Star 12 instead of Final Fantasy 12 right now.

Here's a lot more games, I'm not gonna go through each one just yet though.

Miracle Warriors
Lord of the Sword
Dragon Warrior
Ys series
Rise of the Pheonix
Shining Force
Brandish
Actraiser
Azure Dreams
Crystalis
Beyond the Beyond
Fallout
Fire Emblem
Tactics Ogre/Ogre Battle
Lufia
Secret of Mana
Star Tropics
Vandal Hearts
Golvelius
Soul Blazer/Illusion of Gaia

I could go on.

Final Fantasy 9 underrated? Don't make me laugh.

Phantasy Star 4

It's a great RPG. I thinks it's so anime-ish. It fun, the plot rocks, music is pleasing, battling is great.

Too bad they didn't put it in the Phantasy Star Collection for GBA.
Hugo
no, but they put it in the Sega Genesis Collection for PSP and PS2

I think FF9 is underrated, a lot.
Kokiri
Yeah, I liked at the beginning it had the weirdest "save the princess" plotline.

Another one is Final Fantasy Adventure for the Game Boy. It isn't really final fantasy, it's really the first Mana game.
