Anyone think theyll try to remake this? and if so you think theyll screw it up or make it better?

My favourite game of all time should be kept the way it is, a classic. Disc 2 withstanding.

Maybe in six more years when it turns 15.

You know, I was really looking forward to seeing if Xenosaga was going to somehow connect into Xenogears. I think if Xenosaga is continued with an Episode IV and put into the significant future that it would have a chance in that light. However, they stopped at III so my hope was shattered. My thought was that they would eventually remake Xenogears with enhanced graphics...which would have been awesome. But I do agree with Razael, I think it should be left alone. I feel the same with any possible remakes of popular games like FFVII. If they are to be remade with enhanced graphics the only thing I'd want changed would be the graphics. No change in the story or plot, no changes in names or dialogue...just the graphics. Although with Xenogears...with the creator behind working on it, it would be very cool if he could make the 'second disc' into how he wanted it imagined in the first place.

However, Square has Xenogears' rights. Even though Xeno's creator did a good job of avoiding any real or blatant connections from Xenosaga to Xenogears, I don't think he could get away with making a total remake under Square's nose. Unless Monolith got the rights for the game, I'm sure a remake will not happen. I'm fine with the horrible graphics and extremely bad looking dubs of the anime scenes. It's still my favorite game even with its flaws.

I doubt it will ever happen but I honestly wouldn't mind it since we never received the total disc 2 the way it was supposed to be. I think it'd be pretty badass to play the game as it was intended because disc 2 really sucked fairly hardcore. I think it would have been every bit as exciting as the first disc, and that would have made Xenogears even more amazing than it is.

It's a nice thought... But I don't think we'll ever see a remake.

Dear god, don't remake the masterpiece that is Xenogears. Though a fourth Xenosaga to line up Xenosaga to Xenogears( I mean the ending of XSIII had a small but definitely visible connection to Xenogears).

I wish people would let the Xenosaga/Xenogears connection go... there is none.

As for a remake, I fear they'd screw it up. The conversion to full 3D with added voice acting and whatnot could be a good thing, but more likely won't live up to the expectations. And if a remake were made, it should be better than the original. But topping that is a hard thing to do, they might try too hard and ruin it. So I agree it should be left alone.

I can't say that I wouldn't want them to remake this game, but only if they did the battle system the same, kept the same script and stuff. I think with today's graphics, a lot of the stuff in that game would look completely amazing, but I just can't picture 3D conversations and character models in 3D. I would like this as Xenogears is my favorite game of all time, but chances are they would somehow mess it up, so I would have to say no to this.

I think if they did it I rather watch anime cut scenes rather than CG. I'd be upset if they took out the jump feature. If they added to the story cool. If they took anything away then I;d be upset... I could seeing than making this a master piece or screwing up the game completely

They could add more about Rico's story and his relation with Kaiser Sigmund (who just disappears on disc 2). Billy's father Jesiah could also be included during the second half of the story (also gone on disc 2). And they could enhance the flashbacks about Abel's and Kim's arc...

... but that's probably all wishful thinking.

Edit: If it was CG, I wonder how they'd handle the nudity in the original last anime cutscene.

Probably the same way they handled it at the end of Episode 3. Massive amounts of blur. The Japanese version of that scene showed.. a bit more than the North American one.

Yeah it would get a today's Teen rating sadly. If it was a true remake that thing should be M. However that doesnt translate that well in sales for rpgs.

As for extra arcs, Billy. He was my favourite character and should get more spotlight.

I wouldn't mind seeing it with an M rating, since the series has a time-tested, proven fanbase that would likely buy it regardless of a rating. Either way, I suppose it's only a matter of time before an RPG comes out with a rating like that. I'd rather not see a remake if they weren't going to do it true to form.

Also, they do block out a view of Elly's boobs with a LENS FLARE of all things. I went back and played that part of the game again, and it made me laugh for some reason.

Because it looks like Elly's boobs are some sort of suns that keep blinding the camera with the energy of their brightness?

Something like that. I just think it's kinda funny, seeing as how from the distance the scene is drawn out, you wouldn't be able to see much of anything anyway. I mean.. in the Japanese version of Episode 3, the only thing hiding Elly/Nephilim's naughty bits is the fact they didn't draw them on. She's naked otherwise.

something that is already great shouldn't be attempted to be made even better. if it was really bad then yes, a remake would make more sense. but the game is just fine.

God they better not remake the thought-provking amazing game of Xenogears, I need to play it again to get older Esmerelda, I always tried but failed to get that.

You just need to go to the Lighthouse with Esmeralda at the very end of the game. Reaching the right location will trigger the change. There's also some extra info on Miang's activities during the Zeboïm Era to be found there.

They're extremely pixelated and quite noticable too, characters faces blur with the background at times. Even the more rendered graphics such as the gears have their issues(but they look far better than the character sprites). The animated movies is great, but I'll agree the graphics are not Xenogears fine point. WHO CARES!!!! God graphics is my least concern ever in a video game. That style and no substance business(a lot of Gamecube or PS3 games)

To me Xenogears looked way better than FFVII. At least the characters didnt look like polygonal dough monsters.

dough monsters, when speaking of FF7 character models I always think of Cloud's block hand pressing a switch it makes me laugh everytime cauz his hand is a block.

Its a shame the 'bad guys' like Miang are so much cooler than the good guys like Fei. Citan is still kick ass awesome though. In any case the characters were definitely pixelated, but also not as bad as VII's was. At least the hands look normal. I didn't worry about it too bad, I mean at least when you controlled Fei or Bart, their hair moved. Since most of the time its fighting battles or cut scenes, it was fine for me. The battles tended to be a bit fast paced along with flashy martial art moves and with cutscenes I was looking at the text boxes with the facial art, which looks a lot better than the pixelated faces.

Buts since this seems to be more or less a general discussion on Xenogears...I must ask one thing. I loved Citan, perhaps others did not. He was my favorite playable character and one of my favorite characters all around. Tied pretty close with Miang for me. So perhaps I am a bit biased but I used him in practically all of my battles. Best healer until Billy, insane HP, some of the best defense and offense. He was awesome in the offense without the damn sword but when he got to use his blade...forget about it.

Anyways. I have to ask if there is anyone who ended up not using Citan or didn't use him as much as certain other characters (besides Fei of course). I personally love him and thought he was the best playable character in the game overall, anyone to agree or disagree with that?

I agree, Citan was my favorite as well. I always had him in my party when possible, because he's a strong fighter (especially with his katana) and he has fairly interesting things to add sometimes (like little remarks in the dungeons, and so on).

I always used Citan as well. Whenever possible at least. I thought he was the best fighter in the game. I always tried to use Fei, Citan and Elly whenever they were available.

I went with Fei, Citan and Billy. Billy is my favourite character and its shame they didnt developed him much. Citan was the tits too.

Ditto, I also used Fei, Citan and Billy. At first I did want to have Elly in my party, but I found her to be fairly weak in battle. And besides: Citan already excels at sword fighting, whereas (imo) Elly does not. And having a gunner in the party is cooler too. =p

Haha, well at least with most of the gears gamers here, Citan could have been a permanent member and no one would have paid mind. Citan was really good, definitely someone I had with me every time I could use him. I still think that if I didn't/couldn't use Citan in the first battle against Id that I never would have won. I dont remember if you could switch characters out or not, I don't think you could...

In any case, towards the end I used Fei, Citan and Emeralda. But I tended to use Elly a lot as well, except if I didn't have her with me all the time I doubt I could have kept her up since her HP is always lower, her attack wasn't so bad though. Honestly, I only used Billy a little bit, but at least they got rid of the cliche of never ending bullets. I was still cheap though and used his free square attack most of the time. I saved the other bullets for either building up skills or using them on bosses. I didn't really care for either of Billy's gears and I noticed character boss battles tappered off around when Billy came on so I ended up using Elly until Emeralda came along. Even that was just because I felt her gear was ultimately better (and cooler) than Elly's. That and gamefaq's seemed to agree and I trust them. =p

I quickly found that Elly was all sorts of useless in battle. Her attack was weak and her spells were at first both weak and expensive and then just medium powered and expensive anyway, Elly was pretty bad because her strength was magic and in Xenogears magic didnt matter that much, except some of Bart's abilities and healing spells but since i never liked Bart I didnt dwell into his skills much.

Esmeralda on the other hand, is like Citan a pretty well balanced character, even more than Citan because her spells can be useful sometimes. Her Gear i believe ends up with the lowest hp all the time but its useful unlike Vierge.

Rico is all muscles and his speed is just terrible. His gear suffers from the same fate. Maria's Seibzhen also suffers this and Chu Chu, well no sane person uses Chu Chu.

My on foot party was Fei, Citan, and Billy, but I stopped using Billy's gear (can't remember the name exactly, its starts with an R I think) but once I got the Seibzhen, I used that in gear battles because its strong like Rico's gear, but unlike Rico's gear, its accuracy isn't absolutely terrible (or I just got lucky a lot of the time). Also, the Seibzhen is pretty cool looking.

Yesh it is but what i liked the most out of Seibzhen is that it was the biggest gear of them all (well of the party) and had the tiniest pilot, Maria.

And Billy´s gear was Renmazou.

Well the interesting thing was that Maria's, Elly's and Esmeralda's gears were the only ones who didn't turn into omnigears to my knowledge. Although I still think Elly was stupid not to take her omnigear since it would have kicked some major ass. I think when your looking at the three gears, you would think they would be the weakest but not always necessarily. Elly's Vierge managed fine until I got Bart, I definitely preferred using his over the Vierge. I think the Seibzehn(sp) was most durable, not quite as slow as Rico's but still definitely powerful. I think more or less it missed and hit just about as much as any of the others (except Rico) except did good damage sizing up to Weltall and was much more durable.

I would have used that gear more except most of the time there is walking around in a dungeon or wherever before a gear boss battle, or even just getting into the gears. Maria is incredibly weak on her feet, her gear is the only thing that made her useful. But I just couldn't stand her since it was like wasting a turn and getting needless attacks on me where if I had practically anyone else, I could prevent that. I didn't think that was worth waiting to use her gear, so I used Billy and eventually Esmeralda. At least both of them are decent in and out of a gear, despite her gear being significantly weaker than Fei's and Citan's. Although I think it did make up for it with speed, evasion and ether defense. At least when I played as her.

Elly does get an omni gear. You don't get to use it because of Disk 2's tendency to abridge things. You know, when everyone's being crucified she goes up to fight Grahf and Krelian in her omnigear, but she gets pwned and stolen.

For Gears, the reason Rico's Gear is inaccurate is because you load it up with armor. What you need to do, is in the beginning, buy all the stuff that increases response, rather than armor increase. The Gears will then pretty much never miss and never be hit. Rico's Gears, because of that, becomes one of the best, if not the best until the arrival of Seibzehn. And his omnigear is even better, assuming it has things that increase response. He also has the best fuel efficiency.

Magic is good in conjunction with Citan's abilities of turning people's elements. Sadly, Elly's out of the party by the time you get those, but Esmeralda has better magic anyway.


Maria has some awesome magic spells. She summons Seibzehn using them, and they do a lot of damage.

Ah...well actually I've had a strange glitch in the game for when I fight Deus for the first time, he does a certain attack which freezes the game. While I am certainly a massive fan of the game, I confess I have never beaten the game. Somehow I doubt playing it on the PS3 will fix the problem, but I'll just keep playing it and see. I still have quite awhile, I just escaped from Bledavik and am going to Nisan now.

But I may just give that a shot, I never really knew what Response did and when I took it off I didn't notice anything different really, so I took them off and just put on armor upgrades. I suppose I probably would not notice much of a difference if it was on Weltall since its attack accuracy is pretty decent. I guess I never really give some characters the chance like Rico where if you have Citan with you he can go 4 or even 5 times to Rico's 1 turn and unless using triangle attacks...probably miss.

I managed to get past that problem, since I could only play the game on a PS2 (my old PS1 would freeze the game more often, it's ancient). There's a setting about the graphics that you can change in the settings menu on the PS2. It's the graphics smoothing one, I think. Turn it off, and the Deus battle should no longer freeze.

With the PS3 it should be fine, I think.

Did nobody ever use Bart? his voice made me laugh and I dunno I just like the guy. Fei and Citan are the best by far gear and on foot, especially when I foot they get those next level combos for Fei and a sword for Citan(god he's awesome). When I started using Billy more than just the Wels segment I figured out he was actually pretty good, lame gears though. Screw Rico and Maria not really into them or their gears, Elly is too weak. I used esmeralda's gear a lot more than her on foot, because her gear is amazing.

I don't know what the thing is about Citan's Gear. Pre sword is plain average; after sword, Fenrir actually's pretty good. Especially in conjuction with Bart's colognes. The element turning, plus element attack things make them synch up nicely.

Bart's gear is meh, and his on foot is meh too. But I like him and use him all the time. He still beats Chu Chu, Maria and Rico on foot.

Bart's a great support character, and as I said before, his ethers work well with Citan's. I do not fight Ophiomorph or whatever Miang's gear's name is with any other party (I tried it with Rico because of fuel efficient heals, and it didn't work anywhere near as well).

Esmeralda's gear is all sorts of awesome. But on foot, she's on par, if not better than Citan. After all, all her levels ups become +1 to everything (more to HP) after she levels up, giving her the best stats in the game. Plus her magic is just as good, if not better than Elly's.

I only used Bart hen I was forced to use him. His Omnigear was useful when you fist get it as its pretty strong but as soon as you start getting the second and you have all the gears he ends up being the weakest.

On foot Esmeralda indeed is one of the best characters, better than Fei even.
