An update on my almost-finished game of Suiko5:
Near-end party:
Belcoot, Kyle, Prince (Faroush*), Bernadette, Lyon, Cathari
Bernadette is actually an amazing mage character. Not sure if she'd be considered "overpowered," but she's probably the best of the fully-flexible mages. Both skills can be changed, all three rune slots available, B-rank across the elemental board (pretty sure)... On top of all of that, she can actually equip medium-weight helmets (like the Flame Helmet) and chainmail! (I can't think of any spellcasters as good as her that can equip something like chainmail.) She's a decent long-range attacker, as well. She's a little on the slow side, though I dunno if anyone would consider that a big problem.
I'd definitely suggest trying her out sometime.
End party: Falena's Finest
Georg, Kyle, Miakis, Galleon, Prince (Faroush*), Lyon
(* = Unofficial name.)

I've only got to the end of Suikoden V... but I've had two final teams
Team 1
Belcoot
Nikita
Lyon
Prince
Lorelai
Viki
This team worked really well... Although Belcoot would avoid and counter most attacks...
Team 2
Raven
Gavaya
Lyon
Prince
Meroon (The Beaver who says Nyou... sounds like a monty Python Sketch)
Bernadette
This team is really quite odd... I wanted a little bit of a challenge so I avoided characters like Zerese and Richard obviously... but for some reason I picked up Meroon... and I don't regret it. I just like her stats... She just seems to fit well in the team... Bernadette is an AMAZING asset... even though her character portrait is so damn ugly. I don't care much for Raven or Gavaya though, they are just quite average.

Fubar Nash Sasarai
S5:
Frey (Hero), Georg Prime, Kyle, Lyon, Miakis, Zerase
I also use Cathari, Lorelai, Ghalleon, and Jeane
Suikoden V has a very versatile good character set, unlike the other Suikodens

Fury + Angry Dragon Rune is a golden combination. I have always found the Fury Rune to be an awesome rune and it has always been a great asset to my party. Too bad you only get a few in this game.
You can buy 2 in the Rune Shop in Muse as Rare Item, one from the Guardian Deity and one from somewhere else.

i was never able to grab'em in Muse... i had to resort to hoping that the Bright Shield Rune's spell would berserk Oulan- who i always get as soon as possible; and she stuck with Nyro (my hero) as his full-time body guard. so she had to wait until L'Renouille before i got a Fury Rune... so she had to deal with the Double Beat rune.

Viktor had another interesting rune combination: Fire Lizard + Fire Sealing... fire lizard, when embedded nearly doubled Vik's attack, but half that damage would be dealt to Viktor- and Fire Sealing remedied that.

I did the same thing with Zamza's Fire Dragon + Fire Sealing. Made Zamza quite useful, despite his attitude.
Also, simply giving Viktor a Killer Rune in Suikoden I would already do a good job, considering he can do up to 1000 damage with a critical and the same goes for Pesmerga.
Another interesting rune is the Balans Rune, which provides its usefulness in for example the Family Atk of Riou and Nanami, or runes that make you unbalanced.
But the combination I prefer most is still the Fury Rune + Double Attack + Double Beat, making your character awesome for quickly eliminating the enemies.

In the first Suikoden, I had in the front Viktor, Flik, and This knight guy you get where you fight the Vampire (I can't remember the name) and in the back I had the Hero and both of the Dragon Knights (I also can't remember their names). As for the Levels, I lost the memory card with the data (I think one of my friends stole it)

Good combo for him, though personally, I prefer going with something like either Fire or Fire Lizard on his weapon, and I use Rage more than Fire Dragon. I usually throw three Fire Emblems on him, so that gives a ridiculous boost to his strength (+45), plus resistance to fire damage. (I can't remember if the resistance stacks or not.) That way, his ability as a good Fire magician can be taken advantage of, while giving him a nice physical attack as well, with less backfire from the Fire Lizard/Dragon runes (if you use 'em). Otherwise, for physical attacks, a Fire Rune works okay, adding 1/4 to his attack, or if you manage to have a spare Rage rune, then that's the same thing as the Fire Lizard, minus the backfire damage.
Zamza's a pretty useful character for much of the game (especially since you can get him so early), and I really like how he was set up so that, more or less, you have to choose whether to use him as an attacker or caster, though he's quite good in both areas. (Although he's a bit slow.) Personally, I often prefer leaning more toward his magic, though, because Oulan is a bit better as a physical attacker (especially with that Fury + Fury Dragon combo). (Plus, there are just a lot of better physical attackers later in the game, so his spellcasting becomes more useful than his physical attacks later on.) They both use claw-class weapons, so that means a
massive attack boost once you sharpen their weapons to level 11. (Level 10: 53, Level 11: 110. That's slightly more than a 2x attack increase.) Makes them really handy for that point of the game, and a bit onward. It especially makes Zamza that much better of a physical attacker early on, while still being a pretty good fire-based caster.
It's true that Zamza's a self-absorbed, narcissistic jerk (though in a humorous way, IMO), but I can't help but admire him for his usefulness in battle through most of the game.

I only remember the party in III because I played the game 3 times and I always fought the final boss with the same party so it got stuck in my head.
The party members for the final boss were:
Hugo, Chris, Geddoe, Sasarai, Viki, Fubar

I play suikoden 2 last night and I finish the game with this two:
Killey - lvl 61
Hero - lvl 62
I was so happy when Killey give a beast rune a hit of 1k because of his critical. 1k times 2 = 2k

Post video. I can make statements pretty easy as well.
Considering Silver Wolf can easily knock you out, as well as him attacking him 3 times in a round, or a unite attack if the rune is still there and you not having a lot of HP.
I say, post a vid to back this statement up.
Unless you only meant the 'Beast Rune', as in the orb in the middle and not the 2 legs and 2 heads.

Pes pretty much says what I was going to. I figured it must've been either of those two, specifically because he said it was a knight. Hauser's definitely a knight, and Georg... Well, not really an official one in Suikoden II, but more or less, he is one.
Bloo
Apr 13 2008, 06:17 PM
But Isn't Hauser and Georg a general instead of knight? =\ Well xD
If thats the case, Pesmerga should sound more like it, since he is only attainable at level 4 castle. Which is only achievable after Neclord's Arc.

What mAn-kAt said, though, was "This knight guy you get where you fight the Vampire."
...Y'know what, I just now realized how dumb I am. He said the first game, so it was indeed Pesmerga. *smacks forehead* Somehow, back then, I thought he was talking about Suikoden II. But yeah, in the first Suikoden, Pesmerga is indeed a "knight" that you recruit "where you fight the vampire."
