Well, I thought it would be nice to make a little information page about the war units.
There are various characters that join you in your war battles, some of them should be there and some of them should not. Others are so crapalicious that they do not make any sense.
Anyway, I just thought about making one so it might help people in creating the best units, or the most to their liking.
If you do not like it, then sorry to have bothered you.
As first, it would be handy to mention the units first before adding the support characters. We will start from the top and mention every unit as shown by Apple.
Riou Unit: Infantry
ATT - 8
DEF - 9
Ability: *Bright Shield
Evaluation: A good unit with good base stats. He has the Bright Shield Rune as ability and that lets you use the rune's power to heal all surrounding units. Thus give him someone with the Cavalry ability and let him go along with your main attackers.
Viktor Unit: Infantry
ATT - 8
DEF - 7
Ability:
Evaluation: This unit comes also with good base stats. The downside is that Viktor has no ability and therefore he needs to have supporting characters with some abilities themselves. A good advise is to give him someone with the cavalry ability because Viktor is clearly an attacker.
Ridley Unit: Infantry
ATT - 10
DEF - 7
Abilities: Critical
Evaluation: Most likely your best unit here. His attack power is already enormous and could only made more. He also has the Critical ability and for some reason it is very lethal in this unit. I have seen Ridley wipe out units in one blow. So give him characters that support attack power and with abilities as Critical, so you have an even higher chance of getting it.
You could also boost his defense a little, including Heavy Armor or Evade ability. Ridley's unit is very good, use him to the max.
Kasumi Unit: Archer
ATT - 6
DEF - 6
Abilities: Scout
Evaluation: For some reason I do not like the Archers in this game. Maybe it is because they are so incredibly weak compared to other units and hardly give damage to the opponents because their stats are usually higher.
Scout is a crappy ability as it shows you how big your chance of damaging your opponent is, which is usually low.
So place some attack boosting characters in this unit so you can at least damage your opponents.
Kiba Unit: Infantry
ATT - 7
DEF - 12
Abilities: Heavy Armor, Cavalry
Evaluation: Well it is obvious that this is a defensive unit. No worries, you can still go to the front with this character and distract enemy units to make a passage for others. Kiba will hardly get damaged because of its already ridiculously high defensive power. So give some more defensive characters to him and let him walk around the map. Heavy Armor even lets him take 3 hits instead of the regular 2, so he is your tank.
Hauser Unit: Infantry
ATT - 9
DEF - 7
Abilities: Cavalry
Evaluation: This is another unit that could be made use of. This unit is stronger than Viktor's because Hauser already has Cavalry and you could focus on other abilities or characters to add. Attack power would do him good.
Georg Unit: Infantry
ATT - 11
DEF - 8
Abilities: Critical
Evaluation: Again an attacking unit. Boost his attack and give him someone with the Cavalry abilty so he can fight up front, which is where he should be.
Max Unit: Infantry
ATT - 6
DEF - 7
Abilities: Cavalry
Evaluation: I haven't used this unit that much, mainly because there are other units with higher base stats than this one and are more useful. Max is not story related either and so he can die in battle. Be careful if you use him. He is better at defending than attacking, so boost his defense.
Gilbert Unit: Infantry
ATT - 7
DEF - 8
Abilities:
Evaluation: He is Max with higher stats and no Cavalry ability. In my opinion he sucks and should not be used, or at least very little. You could up his defense so he could back characters up, but he has no Cavalry ability and thus needs one to keep on track with the speedy horses.
Flik Unit: Archer
ATT - 7
DEF - 7
Abilities: Cavalry
Evaluation: Flik is a good archer unit and comes with the Cavalry ability. Archers on horses are a good combination and are meant for hit and run tactics. Shoot the enemy from afar and keep your distance. You can go either way with this unit, but I always send this unit up front to attack the units my units are attacking, but then from a distance.
Teresa Unit: Archer
ATT - 5
DEF - 6
Abilities: Bombard
Evaluation: Another crappy unit that comes with low stats. You'd have to give her some very good characters to have her deal damage. Her Bombard skill is useful if it works, which rarely does. It lets you shoot arrows from really far but it is only effective if she has high stats.
Ayda Unit: Archer
ATT - 6
DEF - 5
Abilities: Repair Self, Forest Walk
Evaluation: This is the second best Archer unit in my opinion. Ayda comes with two abilities, which both are useful. On grassy fields she isn't that good, but once she comes in a forest she is very nimble and gains a big speed advantage. Use that abilty and shoot enemies from afar. No worries about enemy cavalries because they loose their speed bonus in forests.
Luc Unit: Magic
ATT - 10
DEF - 4
Abilities: *Wind
Evaluation: It is very clear that you should use Luc as an offensive unit. He has incredibly high attack power. Give him some more attack power and let him strike enemies from afar. Be careful for enemy archer units because Luc has very low defense and he can die in battle.
Mazus Unit: Magic
ATT - 9
DEF - 6
Abilities: *Fire
Evaluation: His stats are more all-round than Luc's. Well, he loses 1 ATT but gets 2 DEF in return. Mazus should still be used for offense because he is not really good at defending.
Again, watch out for enemy archer because Mazus has low DEF power.
Those are all the units you get. It might look like much, but I found it rather little. Only 14 units out of all the 108 characters. Didn't they join you to fight with the war? So where are they then?
Anyway, now I will mention the support characters, they'll be placed in the 14 units to make them stronger, or to do nothing and just hog a spot that could be made more useful.
These characters are mentioned in order of parameters.
Shu
ATT + 3
DEF + 1
Abilities: Critical, Evade
Evaluation: The best supporting character. He comes with a great ATT boost and ups DEF as well and comes packed with 2 abilities. I always put him in Riou's unit.
Pesmerga
ATT + 3
DEF + 0
Abilities: Cavalry
Evaluation: Slightly less than Shu, but still a very good character. This is my second support character for Riou's Unit.
He has the Cavalry ability which is very useful.
Klaus
ATT + 0
DEF + 3
Abilities: Evade, Cavalry
Evaluation: Another great character. He gives your defense a major boost and comes with the Cavalry ability. Evade is not that good of an ability because you hardly ever get it. It usually works though.
Tai Ho
ATT + 2
DEF + 1
Abilities:
Evaluation: Well, you wouldn't expect it, but Tai Ho is quite handy in upping the stats of your unit. He does not come with an abilty but has good stats.
Apple
ATT + 1
DEF + 2
Abilities: Evade
Evaluation: Even though she sucks as a strategist, she is useful in battle (who would've known). She ups your stats in a good way and comes with Evade. As I said before, I find Evade not something to rely on, but aside from that: Apple is a good character.
Gijimu
ATT + 2
DEF + 0
Abilities: Melee
Evaluation: Gijimu is good to be placed in attacking units, becuase it gives a good boost to the attack power. Melee is an odd ability and I think it gives you a bonus over Archers and Mages or so, but they usually stick in the back anyway, so I am not sure about the abilty.
Lo Wen
ATT + 2
DEF + 0
Abilities: Melee
Evaluation: Basically the same as Gijimu.
Jess
ATT + 2
DEF + 0
Abilities: Evade
Evaluation: Jess is also good for attacking. He comes with the Evade skill which he uses quite alot for some reason and could provide usefulness. I just use him for his attack power.
Hanna
ATT + 2
DEF + 0
Abilities:
Evaluation: A very little used character normally, but quite powerful in war battes because she comes with good attack power. She does not have any abilities though, so do not rely on her too much.
Humphrey
ATT + 0
DEF + 2
Abilities: Heavy Armor
Evaluation: As expected, he is a defensive character and is best used to up someone's defense. Heavy Armor is a useful ability that makes the unit he is in get 3 hits before it is defeated. So make sure you place him in a unit that could use that.
Lorelai
ATT + 0
DEF + 2
Abilities:
Evaluation: Another defensive character just like Humphrey. Too bad that she does not come with any abilities. She is good for boosting the defense for your units, so use her for that.
Nanami
ATT + 1
DEF + 1
Abilities: Repair Self
Evaluation: She can be useful. Though I do not like to use her that much. Repair Self is a very useful skill and could help out the unit she is placed in. So she is best in an offensive unit that has a very high chance of getting hurt. Do not place her in Archer units, because she is of little use in there.
Yam Koo
ATT + 1
DEF + 1
Abilities:
Evaluation: Just like Nanami, but without skills. He could be placed anywhere you want, because it does not really matter.
Shin
ATT + 1
DEF + 0
Abilities: Critical
Evaluation: For a bodyguard he comes with crappy stats. Critical is a good ability and he might be useful when he is using that, if not than he is not that good. I wonder why Konami made him so crap.
Koyu
ATT + 1
DEF + 0
Abilities: Repair Self
Evaluation: He is best when in an attacking unit, so he could be made useful when it gets damaged. That is all there is to Koyu.
Tsai
ATT + 1
DEF + 0
Abilities: Fire Spear
Evaluation: Normally I would say he is crap, because of his stats. And in fact, Tsai is crap.
His Fire Spear ability can be very useful, but it is uncertain if it will damage an opponent or not, it is risky but it can be shot from afar.
Miklotov
ATT + 1
DEF + 0
Abilities: Cavalry
Evaluation: What a crappy knight. His stats do not give me the impression he is the second in command of the Matilda Knights, or the Matilda must be really weak. Cavalry is useful and he might be placed in units you want up front but do not have this ability.
Camus
ATT + 0
DEF + 1
Abilities: Cavalry
Evaluation: Basically the same as Miklotov.
Templton
ATT + 0
DEF + 1
Abilities: Shortcut
Evaluation: No idea why Templton is here. Shortcut might provide being useful, but his stats are nothing to be proud of. Use him for his Shortcut ability, which gives you a speed boost on rough terrain. Other than that, I hardly used Templton.
Freed Y
ATT + 0
DEF + 1
Abilities:
Evaluation: Right, so this is another bodyguard that fails to live up to his name. No abilities and very crappy stats. Place him in a unit you do not use, so he can be useful.
Chaco
ATT + 0
DEF + 1
Abilities: Flight
Evaluation: Flight is useful, because it gives you a speed boost that doesn't get slowed down when entering forests. So use Chaco only for that and nothing else. He could be placed in a unit with Cavalry as well for an even bigger speed bonus.
Annalee
ATT + 0
DEF + 0
Abilities: Encourage
Evaluation: The only good thing she has is Encourage which makes units that already made their turn go for a second time in the same round. Her stats are just horrid and thus should only be used for her ability.
Jeane
ATT + 0
DEF + 0
Abilities: *Lightning
Evaluation: Jeane sucks. Nothing more can be said about her. Lightning could do a good job at damaging your opponent, but magic has a good chance of missing. She has no stats that could back her up, so only use her for lightning.
Tuta
ATT + 0
DEF + 0
Abilities: Repair Self
Evaluation: I have no idea why he is here. Repair Self is the only good thing he has and my advise is to not use him, because of the stats.
Emilia
ATT + 0
DEF + 0
Abilities: Investigate
Evaluation: I have forgotten what Investigate does, so if someone could provide me that information. Her stats are just plain useless and you are better off not using her.
Adlai
ATT + 0
DEF + 0
Abilities: Invention
Evaluation: DO NOT USE HIM! Invention damages you as well as everyone around you, including your units.
Oulan
ATT + 0
DEF + 0
Abilities: Bodyguard
Evaluation: Useless! She protects characters from dying, but with some fancy strategic sight, your characters will not die. Horrible stats...what is it with these bodyguards?
Huan
ATT + 0
DEF + 0
Abilities: Heal
Evaluation: To be short, Heal is useful, Huan is not.
At last I will provide my set up, so people could have a look at it and even compare or whatever they want with it.
Keep in mind that this is all on personal view and personal play.

Well, that is how I usually play my wars once I have all the characters. As I said, it is all on personal view and I am 100% sure that almost everyone has diffirent views on the characters and such.
I am not going to debate about that because I see no reason in doing so.
Also, this is an important note is that characters may DIE in battle. If they do so, than immediatly reset your Playstation (if your are going for the 108 SoD's), because if someone dies then it means that the person has actually died and so you loose a Star of Destiny.
I might update this once I get information about you guys and such, so if you have something I do not know then please tell me so I could put it in this little faq.
Now something that has to be done:
I am the owner of this piece and even though it is in a topic right, I am the owner of this faq. Do not place it somewhere without my consent and if you happen to see it being reproduced in any form (written, electronically, or otherwise) then please send me a mail providing the information.
So far it is only on RPGDreamers Forum, but once I have gotten round to styling it and making it more viewable I might be placing it on other sites such as Gamefaqs or so.
