in my opinion, Suikoden II is the best even though it's console is psOne.. we<-me and my sister) didn't like Suikoden III and Suikoden IV<-because the boat is hard to control!)
so, what do you think?

seen a bunch of these topics already but ill go ahead and answer again..
for me the best Suikoden is III. I have enjoyed every suikoden game to date, even IV and even tactics, but none of them to me compared to III at all. I cant say it enough but playing a story line from that many perspectives is a great idea, was well done, and I hope to see that in more RPG's coming in the future. I thought the characters were well done, story was good, fighting was good. I really had no beefs at all about this game.
2nd place would have to be a tie between Suiko I, then Suiko V in 3rd place.

I of course go for the fans' favourite and that is Suikoden II.
Ever since I played Suikoden I, I was into this series but I always feel that Suikoden II is a major improvement over Suikoden I.
Not storywise, because the stories are both great, but more like animation, graphics, music, environment, feel (returning characters etc), it was all so good.
Suikoden V did a fairly good job as well, it is just that it missed something that Suikoden II did have. Maybe it is the 3D graphics, or the silent hero...I don't know.

I don't see what was so great about I, if anything it's one of the most fun...but I didn't see that strong of a story...I never really grew as emotionally attached to the characters and got into the story as much as I did in II and III...III was my first suikoden so I wasn't sure what to expect...once I got into it, I saw how great it was...but II was one of those few games I liked before I even played it. I was hooked after just watching the introduction...I laughed, I cried, I had such a big adventure and the music was excellent. wao....I want to go play it now

Suikoden's story was fairly deep.
Of course there was little character development but the characters that did matter had a good story.
For example Ted's story in the past, Tir killing his own father and seeing Gremio, Odessa en Ted die in front of him and if you don't beat Teo with Pahn he'll die as well.
So yeah, Suikoden's story is fairly deep, too bad that the lack of personalities made it seemed as if there wasn't and I certainly didn't spot it either the first time I played it.
I liked the fact of me gathering an army and the characters looked cool, the second playthrough I was paying alot of attention to the story and found out that it had great moments.

For me it's II not only was I introduced to the series with this game, but I enjoyed it immensly, I really wanted to get Suikoden 1 after it. I love the war gameplay more than Suikoden 1. I loved the characters, mainly Jowy probably one of the best characters in any of the Suikodens, the best friend that is against, it's so good. Shu was awesome, though cocky. I liked ur castle a lot in S2, there were so many cool things about S2. The politics were interesting and good plus it's probably one of the best direct sequels out there.
A close second is V, it overshot Suikoden 1 for me. There's a lot of fun in SV with moving ur characters in war on land or sea. Plus lots of minigames or fun stuff. Also great development for a lot of the characters, nearly every character needs a little extra work to get. It pulled at my emotions with a crazy intro of the Godwins attacking the castle and the outcome of Ferid and Arshtat. Great battle characters. It's is very close to beating S2 but it remains tied or a little below.

I take back what I said! I think Suikoden IV is a good game {=] but still, I think Suikoden II is the best out of all the Suikodens, though I didn't get the best ending

Suikoden II! Plotline and characters, many well-liked from the first.

Great Army Battle system too. Not that I didn't enjoy the rest of them.

I've only played Suikoden IV, so I'd have to say that until I play another. Although the boat control when on the map gets very boring very quickly.

Ouch, tough luck playing "that" Suikoden game out of the whole series. The other ones are miles ahead of this one in every way. Especially Suikoden 2 and 5. Suikoden IV was a failed experiment, so to say. A new development team and they wanted to try some new things. Sadly the result wasn't very satisfactory to most fans.

I liked the seafaring combat system, although it seemed too easy. I'd have liked something better than a rock/paper/scissors sort of thing.

Choosing just one game is like choosing your favorite Child. Sure there’s something about one kid that you like a little better then the others, but in the end you love them all the same. And that's counting Tactics!

mini-games are great though, in every Suikoden game, they're great, cause there is possibility of winning

Only Suikoden I had a great chance of winning and by great I mean ridiculously easy x'D.
Too bad you had to start with Suikoden IV Aurorai, becuase it is the worst out of the series and you'd feel the same once you have played the other games.
Easiest to get would be Suikoden V because of its recent release.

Suikoden 2 followed by 5, 5 is so close to 2 for me that they're almost tied.

I've only played I and II, but they're both such cool games, although my favourite was II because I like the graphics in it a lot better, I think it's story is also a lot more active than it is in suikoden I

Same here. Suikoden II seemed overall far more developed than Suikoden I.
Not that Suikoden I is a bad game at all, but it seems like Suikoden I was more like a test and that Suikoden took the real cake out.
Anyhoo, Suikoden V is also a very good game, you might want to check that out.

The first one, hands down for me. The storyline was powerful and the characters were amazing. I was always excited when a new event/mission would ocurr at the headquarters. I always enjoyed getting into battles. The battle music "Confrontation With Monsters" (I think that's the battle song title) was great! Anyone on the boards would be full of ##### if they didn't get a little misty-eyed at the ending of Suikoden I. That was the worst part - when the game ended.
Suikoden II was almost equally as good for me. I didn't get the same feeling as the first one, though. I liked it because of the improvements made from the first one, of course.
After II, I was a little lost with how the series went. III was good, but not spectacular, IV I didn't even bother finishing and V was the best Suikoden I played since the first one of the series.
I still say the first was the best one. Super hard to find, though. Glad it's in my library. Never to let go. Ever.

Suikoden II and after that Suikoden V. I can't even count how many times have I played and beat SII. That games seriously rocks big time.

i think the best suikoden game is the third one but i only played III,IV and V so i have no input on the 1st and 2nd but my friend who played the whole series tells me that the 2nd is the best.

I didn't bother with Suikocrap IV.
In this order is how I found the games hard:
Suikoden III
Suikoden Tactics
Suikoden I
Suikoden II
Suikoden V
Last being the easiest.

hmm the best. I liked most of them all. And I really liked 1 but 2 was awesome as well. Id say 2 followed like a shadow by 1.

Um the only Suikoden game I played was III and it was plain awesome to me! ^^ So I personally think III is the best.

I find it funny how people say, "too bad you started with IV."
You guys need to realize that Suikoden IV is a good, solid RPG. Compared to other Suikodens it is surely lacking, but it's still a decent game compared to the multitudes of #### RPGs out there.
As for Suikoden III, again many were disappointed, not me. While 2 is without a doubt the best, I think III is at least on par with I.
I've yet to play V yet, as I just recently picked it up, but I've heard many good things.

My favorite would have to be the First Suikoden. It was the first one out of the series I played and it hooked me for the rest of the series. I liked the fact that you got to pick from around 40+ characters for battle (of course this could be either an over exageration or an underestimate) Also the castle was a hooker for me. I didn't really like Suikoden 3 that much. Dont get me wrong, I was a really good RPG, I just didnt like the storyline layout that it had (one major storyline with multiple perspectives) That just kind of annoys me. I also liked Suikoden 4, I am still playing it, but I think it is a good RPG. Yes World travel in that game is one of the most BORING thing I have ever done, But I like the storyline and the boat battles were fun.

Order:
Suikoden 2
Suikoden 3
Suikoden 5
Suikoden 1/4 (I never played Suik 1, but it MUST be better than 4 lol.)
SUikoden 2 has the most in depth storyline I've ever seen in a game. THere's just so many subplots and developing stories and conflicting nations and drama that it easily becomes my favorite Suikoden.
Suikoden 3 is next because I loved the emotion and symolism in the game. It brought back many characters from Suik 2 or at least mentioned/continued them (Star Dragon Sword, Pendragon Family, Luc, Lucia, Yuber, Silverbergs, etc etc).
Suikoden 5 was a GREAT game, don't get me wrong, but I liked the feel of Suikoden 3 more. There were 6 True Runes in the game, which is a LOT for a Suikoden game haha. But I loved the characters and flow of events better than Suik 5.
Like, when I look back an reminisce on each game, I see more sentimental and intricate relationships in SUik 3 than I do Suik 5, and I really like that.
