Plot Summary: In Tokyo, an impenetrable field known as "Hell's Gate" appeared ten years ago. At the same time, psychics who wield paranormal powers at the cost of their conscience also emerged. Hei is one of the most powerful of these psychic agents, and along with his blind associate, Yin, works for one of the many rival agencies vying to unlock the mysteries of Hell's Gate.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...ime.php?id=7382I've been following this series since it's release at the beginning of April. So far, I'm enjoyed what I have seen. I have watched up to episode 4. So, I watched the first two stories of Darker than BLACK. It's quite interesting to see the abilities of the Contractor Hei. I don't recall if it's been shown what he must do to full fill the contract yet. Hei two-face character interesting. One side he's very nice and caring, then on the flip side, you see the cold-hearted contractor.
I can't wait until I get into the meat of the plot, when ever that might be. So far, it's been good. I'm quite fond of the artwork and animation being used in Darker than BLACK. Not sure, but I love Hei's character design. It's mainly his facial expression that I'm quite fond of.
Just to add, HOWLING a great opening theme.

Well, who else had the chance to check Darker than BLACK out?

Funny, You beat me to the punch. I was going to make a thread soon. I watched up to episode 6 (the one thats currently released) and I've just been floored with how good this series has treated me. There is quite a bit of meat in the latest arc, and a lot of the story surrounding the rest of the cast. I'm hoping fire girl from episode 3-4 shows up again.
I am definitely loving the perspectives they are doing, the entirety of the series has been an eye feast thus far, and the characterization is, also, quite good. Which is surprising, given we're only 6 episodes in right now. I can't wait to see what this has in store.

WTF!!! WTF!!!
Anyway this is among the series I have my eyes on, yes I intend to go back watching anime after a long hiatus, while some people I've met thought the series had this SG feel to it. ^^

I've been watching this since the first episode, but I haven't seen episode 6, yet. Dx
I really like this series, kind of reminds me of Heroes. especially how it looks in motion, I saw a few screencaps and took some of my own, it doesn't look AS impressing. Hah...
Oddly, I find it really fun learning about what each Contractor has to do in exchange for using their powers over what their powers really are. The first one we saw was pretty disturbing, but the two from this...arc?? with their drinking and smoking amuse the heck out of me. XDD

I remember hearing about this agesssss ago from none other than the hip anime updater, Juck lols. :D He told me about this and showed me trailers a long time ago, to the point where I started forgetting about it because it took so long for it to release. @_@
Admittedly, since I've been busy lately with testing and going out with friends and the novio, I haven't had time to update myself. :\ So I'm only on Episode 2, so I need to REALLY catch up, especially due to the fact that I'm more concentrated on watching Gallery Fake and Claymore than Darker than Black lols. :D It's pretty good though. I wouldn't say it's the best thing I'm watching at the current moment, but it's good.

Vrrrmmmm......
I'm really liking the series with 6 eps. I've seen so far, Although I'm looking forward to know some more deal about the other characters but Hei's pretty cool and I certainly would love to hear some explanation about his uniqueness and obviously the whole 10 years ago thing as well.

AHH!! The subs for this is always two eps behind the raw.
so far I'm liking this series very much. Its adult content makes it feel very reminicent of Champloo or Bebop, however the cartoony artstyle isn't cutting it for me. Stupid bones.

I'm up to episode six, too. I plan on watching episode seven and eight. I'm hoping more uncover of Hei in the future. He doesn't have a requirement to fill for his contract? I don't remember if he does or doesn't since I think Havoc said he didn't in the last episode, but not sure.

Yeah same thing for me, I intend to watch 2 eps. at a time so that I wont feel hanging and having to wait for another week. <__< But anyway I'll just have to wait and see if what Havoc's says is true and that he doesn't have an obeisance then it'd be pretty interesting as to what could be the explanation for that.
On another note I love the requirement of that female spy, I think her name was a month or whatever (July??? >_<), because she only has to drink beer which she enjoys. xD

Well, four more episode down and nothing much happen. We just got a cute pink hair girl and old man in Episode 7 and 8. In Episode 9 and 10 we got more insight into Kirihara's past and character. Still, I hope the next two episodes deal with Hei finding his sister, who likely that blonde girl in the opening. Heck, just click a link to Anime News Network and you'll see her in the image used in the summary. I thought they try harder to keep her appearance a secret. Though, it could be a different character completely, but I doubt it.
Hei yet to fight much in competition as he defeat all his enemies easily excluding November 11 and his gang, but we'll likely see them again. Oh, not to mention the recent villain, who supposedly didn't get killed by Hei. I hope Episode 11 and 12 get back on track with the main plot.

I actually liked the detective arc simply because it gave off a lighthearted mood from the serious one in the previous arc, and also gave more insight into Mao's ability and character. ^^
As for the Kirihara arc, I love it because I'm simply interested in her character.

This show has been licensed by Funimation.
I think Sudo dropped it, and its also off of their tracker.
I just checked this topic. I never bother with Sudo since they released HD and my computer can't handle HD whether it's in mkv. or avi. format. I'm sticking with Shinsen-Subs, but are they even going to continue subbing Darker than Black? If not, then that's the end of that anime until another group decide to pick it up for me. I haven't watch a episode since Episode 10.

Well I just checked out Shinsen's site and they have Darker than Black on the dropped projects. ^^;;
Well, just as soon as we comment about the status of Darker than Black, it's picked up by anon. Episode 13-14 just got picked up. I'm trying to get Episode 11-12 from sudo. I just hope I can play them.

Jul 9 2007, 10:56 PM
^Well you could start by telling us what type of anime you prefer because what may be worth watching for us may not be worth for you.
The ep.11-12 arc was good but a bit more on the confusing side with regards to the whole deal with world, gate and the sky because it only adds more questions and I dont think this arc answered anything... well it does give us more insight as to PANDORA but thats that. =/ On the plus side it gave us an idea on what Hei's sister look like. v_v;;
Btw Eva, what problems do you have when playing sudo's mkv files? Does it not play at all or does it lag when you play mkv files?

They lag when they play. I know what codec I need if a file wasn't playing. I likely can't solve the problem with the lag. I need a stronger computer to handle h.264. I can play .mkv, because that's the file format anon been using Gurren-Lagann. My computer video card to weak to handle HD, too.
Though, a standard XviD release of Episode 11 and 12 were released. I'm all set. Still, this is becoming a problem since people are using h.264. You have a solution other than getting a stronger computer?

I can't say if this will work for your computer but the same thing happened to me, apparently we can't play H.264 because of CCCP or any other codec pack, if you have that installed. Go
here and download the Haali Matroska Splitter and VSFilter. Before installing those two, remove the CCCP or whatever codec pack you have, then install them and test it. ^^;; Hope it works for you. =p

I'm using CoreCodec, from what I heard, it's the best codec for h264. I haven't had a problem playing them. I'm enjoying a problem playing a file with higher than normal resolution. If you got a solution to that problem, that would be good.
I'm up to date with Darker than Black. The recent arc decent since it gave you insight into Yin's background, but that's about it. Once again, you see the blond hair girl walking in the background. I want to say she's Hei's sister, but she might not be. I hope she's introduction during the next arc since I want to get back into Hei's background since not too interested in the rest of the cast at the moment. Oh yeah, the comical detective duo returned for Episode 13 & 14.

I actually stopped getting files from the fansubbers themselves and just get it from sites who reencode them to h264 encoding and having a lower file size with good res. Anyway as long as you can watch anime is what's important.
I was actually interested as to what organization Berta and that other guy belonged to because it seems there are more involved other than the syndicate, the govt. and CIA. I look forward to the next arc because it has the CIA trio again which would also mean what you've been waiting for Eva, more of Hei's background. =p
Everytime I see that girl I always thought of her as C.C taking a part time job since Code Geass wont be airing yet. lol

Do explain. You don't get the anime from the fan-subber site, but wait until it's re-encoded by another group? Or, you just wait until another group release a file format you can handle. I don't encounter a big problem, but there's anime where only one group doing it and they're releasing the anime in only one type of file format. So, I'm stuck. Yeah, I don't sweat quality too much. I just want to watch a certain anime without trouble.
CIA trio? The people named after a month? If they're returning, it's about it. I wonder if Hei will have a battle that will end with a conclusion this time around. I wonder if that blond hair will make her introduction to Hei and company. She's just been floating in the background. Like I said, I believe that's Hei's sister, but I figure I'm likely wrong. We'll see.

Yep, its mainly because of my internet connection getting adjusted for the proper speed and downloading files at the size of 150-200+ mb would take me hours of hours, so these sites reencode the original fansubs to rmvb sizing around 50-100mb but as of recent they jumped from rmvb to h264 encoding with the same sizes but way better quality.

I didn't know Episode 15 introduced another opening theme. The track not bad, but the animation isn't that great. I had a interesting scene with Hei fighting a bunch of Hei, if that made sense, but nothing much beyond that. I watched the beginning of 15, but stop due to shoddy translation by Anonymous/Anon. Avoid downloading the next set of episodes until they, Anonymous/Anon, release a better translation or don't bother with Anonymous/Anon and wait for sudo to do 15 and 16.

Ep.15 and 16 was a good introductory arc into the whole deal as to the sides that are present in the series and who is who, especially the introduction of the C.C long lost twin sister although her power was pretty whoa but still it has its limits. The 15-16 arc really pumped me up and I really can't wait to see the other contractors and to what their other powers are. =D
Ep.17 and 18 on the other hand although a bit entertaining by itself was quite the disappointment after coming off the awesome arc from 15 and 16. Nothing much to say other than it was alright, but I look forward to 19 and 20 because it seems its going to be about evening primrose again. =)
My theory that Amber being Hei's sister wasn't correct. Though, Amber's introduction didn't disappoint and neither did the 15/16 arc. Great arc in my book. I didn't expect Maki to die. Though, I never expected him to ever be able to kill November either. I like how that entire arc ended, but I won't have minded if Hei killed Huang instead of just shocking him unconscious, but what can you do. Good arc. I have yet to watch beyond 15/16 since I need to wait for Syndicate to release their .avi version of Darker than Black since I wasn't impressed by Anonymous' fan-sub.
Sonic, you do notice the other C.C. reference? There's Pizza Hut in the background all the time.

Nope. I thought 25 a perfect number for Darker than Black. They didn't leave a gapping plot hole that many other animes that have ended too soon have. So, I'm good. One of the better done animes that didn't waste too many episodes on filler episodes that had nothing to do with the plot. You're the second person I heard who wished the anime went beyond 25.
Finished watching the series just a hour ago and I'm quite happy with the result.
I did expected Amber's power to take a toll on her age. She appeared much younger in the present than she did in the past. Too bad Amber and Hei angle wasn't shown more in the anime. Only thing I wished they spent more time. Other than that, I'm happy with the ending.

FINALLY finished the series =____=... Either my connection just plain sucks or I'm serious dyer of a new computer!!
Anyways, I thought the ending was meeeh... It was decent ending to the series and all, I just thought more could of been done, but then again I could say that for alot of series xD. Kind of guessed Amber's age was her remuneration although, I didn't expect it to take such a toll on her when she appeared in front of Hei as a kid X_x. I do wonder about the remuneration since some are far more painful and more time consuming than others x/.
But anyhoos... as said, it was decent ending and here's to me hoping for a season 2 xD. (Even if things were pretty much rapped up >_>)

Yeah, I think a couple episodes would have been nice, but overall I'm satisfied with the ending as well. I expected that thing with Amber as well, but I didn't expect Misaki to become fond of Hei at all. The dream world sequence was kind of ##### but I can see the significance in it. As far as the ending goes, I just wish we would have gotten a little better closure in regards to Amber and Hei, as well as the Syndicate.
But it wasn't completely a generic animu ending. And it remained somewhat to its true nature even at the end, so thats a very good thing.
Oh also, I heard that the original script for this anime was stolen at episode 8, if that means anything for anyone.

Apparently a 4 episode OVA has been announced for DTB about the mission to Heaven's Gate in south America.
I don't really think its neccessary, but it might be interesting.
I'm also not really sure whether the 9th DVD Extra is a part of this or not.
It was announced in Newtype, but if anyone can find more information about it, it'd be great.
