I could find anything about Soul Calibur IV using the search feature as it wasn't working again.
The game looks fantastic. Even more than Tekken, the Soul Calibur series has always been my favourite since Soul Blade. I can't wait. I just hope the term "slowly heading towards its inevitable conclusion" doesn't mean its the last.

Soulcalibur IV Goes Online
Legendary series finally introducing 'net play.
By 1UP Staff, 06/25/2007
Despite online multiplayer's growth, the fighting genre has notoriously resisted embracing the feature. The Mortal Kombat series was an early pioneer, but the old dismissal that online networking isn't fast enough for the split-second timing seems to be failing -- or companies have come to terms with it. Either way, the latest issue of EGM spills the beans: Soulcalibur IV will have online networking when it arrives on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008.
"What's changed this time round is that the next-gen platforms have network infrastructure already in place," says Soulcalibur IV Director Katsutoshi Sasaki. "We've heard from fans that they really want the game to be online, so we figured that, with the current environment, we really couldn't make SC4 without online play."
Score one for gamers. But, with the introduction of create-a-character in Soul Calibur III and its assured revamping in Soulcalibur IV, will these customizations go to waste? "We definitely want to allow users to fight with their customized characters during online play. But we're unsure whether or not you'll be able to trade characters with friends."
Check out EGM's 14-page spread on Soulcalibur IV in the latest issue, on newsstands now.

So not that much poictures up, well from what I see so far it should be great. Though I hope they keep the characters they had from the last game. Oh well, keep us posted. . .

As long as they sell, they'll keep making em. Don't worry about that.
After SC3 PS2 exclusivity the question was which console SC4 would appear on, but predictibly it's 360 and PS3, with the Wii getting some spin off. :/
I think the only confirmed details so far in terms of gameplay is Mitsirugi, Nightmare and Ivy will appear, and the game will run at 60fps.
Can't wait for some in game footage. SC has always been my favourite "hardcore" fighter. I say "hardcore" otherwise Smash Bros would get that title.

I think the wii is gonna get that SC spin off with Siegfried, or maybe it was another console, I dont remember.
Well, I didnt like SC3 that much, I prefer the previous games but it was still enjoyable and well made so yeah, why the hell not, bring it.

Project-Soul has nothing on this game, how disappointing. I'm guessing they will later in the year.

Of course I want this game, but I'm not really hyped about looking forward to it or anything.

That's part of the allure of the game. I'm sure many teenagers from Japan and Europe alike buy there games due to the revealing clothing. I can think of at least two that I know personally. So what does it look like was the intened ending of SCIII? In some play throughs the ending was sort of light-hearted, but in others it... wasn't. Was that one chick intended to eventually become the new Nightmare? Oh, so many questions, I can't wait.

1080p 60 fps boobies. I think they're trying to cut in on DOA's market. Anyway I'm looking forward to a new Soul Calibur game. I liked 3 but it felt like it wasn't a big step up from SC 2.

I think that's more your mistake then than theirs. SC III was heavily focused on in media such as game sites and magazines around the time it was released.
You should probably check a few videogame news sites once in a while and you'll know about the games about a year before they are released and get updates up until then.

I am of course interested in this game and also the new plotline.
I am curious what will happen to Yoshimitsu, considering in the Tekken plotline he lost his sword and now uses 2 swords instead, will this also affect Yoshimitsu in Soul Calibur.
I am also interested in Kilik (well duh), he has always been my favourite and very curious to what he looks this time.

While I'm mainly a Tekken player, I'm still pretty interested in this title. Can't promise I'll buy it, but I'll be keeping my eyes open for future news about it.
As for the online part, it's pretty much becoming a standard now. I just hope it can be pulled off in an elegant way.
Man, I liked Soul Blade though. None of the others can compare to it.

Interesting topic style, we should make some more for large titles/franchises that don't warrant their own forum.

I probably should. I really don't check up on video game sites at all. I read Game Informer and look around here....but that's it.

Okay so more or less three more characters have been added to the recurring cast of characters in Soul Calibur.
1. Sophitia
2. Cassandra
3. Voldo
Here's the link:
Soul Calibur 4 scans
In anycase After looking at this closely, I noticed that. . umm they really sexed out Sophitia and Cassandra.
Pesmerga
Aug 11 2007, 05:26 AM
Their outfits are almost identical to theirs in the previous Soul Caliburs.
Anyway, the total list of characters now comes to this:
* Ivy
* Mitsurugi
* Nightmare
* Siegfried
* Taki
* Tira
* Yoshimitsu
* Sophitia
* Cassandra
* Voldo
Still no Kilik and Xianghua v_v.

Sort of, but to me it looks like both are showing a lot more skin (especially Cassandra), and Sophitia looks like she got a boob job. I take SC art with a grain of salt, though, as Taki always looks way more..um..endowed in her official portrait then she does in the game.

Sophitia already got the boobjob in SCIII. She even has the same outfit, if I recall it is the 2P outfit. Anyway, I have seen that greek goddess outfit on her before, hence I said that.
Cassandra's outfit is slightly diffirent and maybe revealing a bit more skin, but nothing much.

For Sophitia, it looks like they took away her metal breastplate and now she is just in a full toga. It is hard to tell from that picture, but that is what it looks like. This leaves her open a lot more in the sides, and it kind of gives her a Mai look. I also think there is something very Kasumi-like about that drawing, to sort of build on what Athrum said.

Well, it is just a higher res version. I dont know what kind of drastic change were you ever expecting from the same scan other than stating what was already obvious.
Pesmerga
Aug 13 2007, 12:18 AM

Now your just nit picking at my words, regardless whether I stated obviously it was just a high res or not is irrelevant, the point was that I posted a better res version in case other people would want it. It is no different if someone posted a LQ vid and someone else would want a better version, its just sharing media resources.
Pointing out "oh the boobs are bigger and its the same scan" is a different matter.

The matter here is that you stated they were bigger version while it was clearly visible that they were bigger version. That it was to provide a better image of the ones posted earlier in the topic is beside the point that you were stating the obvious.
I simply took a look at the pictures to see if there really was a lot of diffirence between the outfits of Sophitia and Cassandra of Soul Calibur III. That is what the conversation was about in the first place.

New character. Hilde. Or Hildegard Von Croone.
She looks awesome. Properly dressed for battle and everything.
Oddly enough though, her name is spelled
Hilda for short in Japanese while her long name still is Hildegard in this

So I'm not sure if it's going to be Hilda or Hilde for short. But either way she looks awesome.

QUOTE
In a surprising announcement, 1UP broke the news saying that more Star Wars characters are likely on their way in addition to the already confirmed Vader and Yoda.
"It's unlikely that [Namco] would go through all these negotiations with LucasArts to obtain the rights to only two characters, so expect more announcements as we get closer to release," writes James Mielke, adding that new Star Wars characters may be made available as downloadable content.
Soulcalibur IV is currently scheduled for a "spring 2008" release on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Wow, talk about random characters that have no place in this setting.
I am REALLY curious how they are going to add them to the story mode. Considering these characters are from the far future and the game's setting seemed to be in this old history, I am really surprised.
Imo, not the characters they should be adding.

Dude I'd so rather play as Yoda than Vader.
I hope he fights like he does in the movies, jumping around and stuff. Freaking hilarious.
They managed to get away with Link, who has nothing to do with Soul Calibur or anything of the like. I think they can manage it with Vader and Yoda. Might be silly story wise but you wont care once you start playing with them.
Pesmerga
Jan 10 2008, 03:29 PM
True, they got away with Link, but Link fits more in the theme, considering the Hyrule setting and his weapon.
Yoda and Vader do not fit in the theme at all. Of course it is fun to see them in the game, I'm just surprised that they have been chosen and not, say for example Dante.
Athrun
Jan 10 2008, 04:05 PM
Well Link at least looked like he fit the times with his sword and shield and such. Darth Vader and Yoda really feel awkward to me for some reason. Not sure if it's more the light sabers or seeing them interact with characters like these.
Anyway, I'd rather have Kos-Mos since she was already in Soul Calibure 3, but she was a costume rather than an actual character. And Dante would look cool. I'd prefer those two over draging Star Wars into the picture.
But out of the two I prefer Darth Vader at least, so I'm glad he's in the PS3 version. I'm already hating the idea of a midget jumping arround with a lightsaber. I'd rather hear "your lack of faith is disturbing" during a choke hold throw.

Agreed, it may be a little daft but it's about a bit of fun at the end of the day and I can't see why people are worried about technicalities in a game where the characters batter eachother with swords and not have a scratch on them. I've been playing the Soul games since Soul Blade on the PS1 and Soul Calibur on the DC and don't see a problem with putting Vader and Yoda in at least they haven't put in Spawn and Heihachi again.
