I would Like it to Continue with Sony.

In my opinion Sony could Kick Microsofts/Nintendo's *** when they get the Glitches out of the Ps3.
Kids_Gloves
If they ever make a online version they should use a Wii controller but more controls.

P.S. is the Ps3 games might not be able to play on Ps3 a joke or Typo?
darkflames
They should next make if for the PC to make it online gaming just like the game itself! that would be cool.
Horus
Yeah, they should make it a MMORPG to make it more like the game.
It could be done with ease (look at WoW), but they rather screw around with Ps2.

I think the reason they haven't made an actual MMORPG of the series is the many different kinds of factors for it.

First of all is the character creations. We've all seen the differences in the many different characters in "The World" and I think that would lead to problems in actually making so many different character design options when creating the character. And that could lead to even more problems when facing a Job Extension.

The second problem I think there would be is the Job classes, like Twin Blade or Harvest Cleric for instance. So far they've just used fixed classes given to use by the design of the game's story. We never actually play as anyone BUT the main character (Kite or Haseo). Getting the other Job classes usable could be very difficult to what they are used to programming and what we are used to playing in the ".hack" series.

Then there's the matter of accessing the menu. EVERY time we access the menu the actions of the game is put into a "paused"-like state and we all know that's not an option in a real MMORPG. If you think about how extensive the menu system is this could very well become a problem in a battle. Sometimes nothing's worse then getting your ass handed to ya while you were trying to access an item or spell that otherwise would have saved you and your team, and I'm sure some of you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Next is the servers and area words. We've all noticed that you can change to different "servers" in the games, but in an actual MMORPG that's not usually possible. The different effects of the different keywords in different servers is pretty much impossible for a normal MMORPG. And then there's the areas that become automatically bookmarked the first time you come across thier names in e-mails, forums, and conversations with others. I don't think that keeping track of all those areas as well as the ones each player has already visited is something an MMORPG has the proper equipment for (I don't play MMORPGs so if there is one that can do something like this already I apologize and stand corrected).

Now "Data Drain", if you ask me, could very well become one of the biggest problems of it. I mean, seeing as it would be most likely based off the previous games EVERY charcter would be given a "Data Drain" ability. That means there would be "Data Bug" and/or "AIDA" encounters on a regular basis, which aslo would mean fighting as or against one of the eight Epitaphs: Skeith, Innis, Magus, Fidchell, Gorre, Macha, Tarvos, and Corbenik. And also the ability to freely rewrite data in an area could very well lead to even more "Player Killers" (PKs) and "Player Killer-Killers" (PKKs) than what the story-line for G.U. is dealing with.

I think I've made point, quite clearly at that. But despite these possible drawbacks, if the REAL CC Corp. decides to make an MMORPG of this series, COUNT ME IN!!!
Pesmerga
I want to see the series continued on the PS3.
With all the power the PS3 houses, they should really be able to give that huge World effect, which was restricted in the PS2 games.
For example how you would walk in loops if you would walk only 1 direction.
There only being 4 cities where you can communicate and apart from that there were only battlefields and dungeons.
No buildings you could go into, etc etc.

The story was great, but the gameplay was very repititive, so they could use the power to improve that.
rena
I voted for PC cause in original story it is a game for PC
And It would be cool when there would be an The World MMORPG X3

But I also thought that it would be nice to have it on Wii
because of all the motions it makes you think it's real
and with googles aaaw. *dreaming*
Manc
I votet PS3, becouse the games started with PS2, so it's better to keep with the PS (and fans like me may get bonuses for a complete savefile from original .hack series!)

The game actually already been an ORPG, but only relesed in Japan 2005, and shut down a year later, 2006!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.hack//fragment
and it seems like it will never come up again, unless .hack pick up in popularity!

found a somewhat trailer to it on Youtube, seem's like character-options are limited and all look like clone's from original .hack game

i Voted for Wii but i would love for it to come out on PC as a MMORPG again bc the thought of that is just totally awsome i say count me in! i sometimes feel like i need to get away from this world and visit another lol. i kno sounds a little geek u can luagh at me if u want but im actually one of the popular kids in school

well they dont have to put in the data drain and they could simplify the menus for the masses of people who will love an actual MMO from this game the game could be from the stand point of after all the AIDA and Cubia stuff has been resolved or they could impliment the fact that not everyone had an epitaph the character had to have certian parameters for them to have the epitaph

Look at his second post.

But I don't get what that means either. What does PS2 games compatibility with PS3 have to do with if you think .hack games should be made for PS3?
Red_ryaN
360, 'cause I'm going to be getting one eventually, and I think the live system would be better
W.B. Yeats

I personally think PC would be the best way to go, although very unlikely...
The main reason I want something for the PC is because I am sure my future dwelling will not support a TV, and I would rather simply use my PC than rewire it every time to double as my TV screen for video gaming. But that's just me. I would prefer not to go in a detailed ranting fury right now.

Dude what kind of shithole are you moving into?

XD Yes, I would kind of like to see that detailed rant, what kind of place doesn't support a tv these days haha? Harsh.

Last I knew, sometime in between 2008 and 2010, there is suposed to be a MMORPG for the PC, with virtual reality helmets. They said they were gonna make it as close to the .hack series as they can. It'll cost a ##### fortune, but DAMN will it be worth it! They have been working on it for years now. if I can find the article again, I'll post a link up here for everyone else to see.

--> CYBER CONNECT 2 IS NOT MAKING AN MMORPG.
Are you going to ask about a .hack MMO? No need, because the answer is no. No no no. It's not being made. The company tried its luck with .hack//Fragment, which was partially online (see also: Phantasy Star Online), but the servers were taken down within months of its release because no one played it. This was all the leverage CC2 needed to confirm it wants no part of trying a full-scale MMO, which would be exponentially more expensive to run and not bring in the money necessary to keep it up.

You might think your friend has a hot tip when s/he tells you about this awesome .hack game that you have never heard of and/or most people don't know about. There's a reason most people don't know about it: it isn't real. Your friend is cockteasing you and/or is a retard.

But do post a link to this article if you find it.

Kinda getting off topic people...

Anyways...I would like to see it continue on with Sony, but would like to see it move on to ps3 at some point in time. (cant keep it on ps2 forever.)

Although seeing a comp version would be nice if it went mmorpg but yeah, they don't even have the money to try that anytime soon. So Sony for me nothing else will do for .hack franchise.
The Evil Dead
If they made a computer version it wouldn't run on all of your 800mhz machines anyway. Nat.
Eneas
I would like it to be a real MMO just like the game makes it out to be. Now that would be an awesome game.
Nope
i would like to see .hack for the PSP, something like a mini spin-off series. i dont wanna have to buy a ps3 to continue my favorite RPG series T-T
Nekomata
i really want to see it for PSP. i would love to get the chance to play dot hack ANYWHERE! it would also look nice with the psp's wide screen. that would be so cool!
The Pursuer
the true question is will they stay loyal to sony? or will they move to suit the publics needs?. its hard for some of us to afford a 250 dollar Wii, even harder for a Xbox 360 ,and on my end forget even trying to get a PS3, it wont happen. I would love to see it on the PC as a MMO, who says it has to be made by Cyber Connect 2? i personally think they Know the demand for a MMO so dont rule it out quite yet. but there are other companys who could attempt to make "the world"

i personally dont care where it goes, as long as i can afford it
Nash
Creating a true MMORPG would be a challenge, for that literally set them up against a harsh standard created through the make-believe PS2 games.
Coldbird
I dont see a problem for a The World MMO...

About "we only got to play the main character" --- Nonsense...

Every .hack Game released till now supported playing other Jobclasses... Just that it was "locked" to the Main Character...

Using Codes that alter the Party you can move any Character to the first Party Slot and thus make him controlable... And in fact all Classes play fine~ no glitches or similiar... They are pretty well implemented...

So that won't be a problem... ( I myself once played as Balmung in the first game series and Azure Balmung in the GU Series to try it out... ).

Another proof that this is the case is that in .hack//FRAGMENT - where you are free to play what you want... all works fine aswell...

So I doubt Classes would be a problem... Job Extension wouldnt be a problem aswell... Simply use another Body Model and you're set...

Hell - even if they make the Character completely customizeable via Clothes, etc... you still only need the Model for the Armor to "mix together" a full Character Display... It seems most people of you got no Idea how 3D Models work... I'm not saying i know it myself... but the theory - yes I do...

About Epitaphs and Stuff... if a real "The World" was going to be released it should merely be what we know from the Animes and Games... A normal MMORPG... or did every "NPC Player" in the Games have a Epitaph to use? Or the ability to Data-Drain? ^^

About the Keywords... I don't see a problem with this if you have a Random Generation Algorithm for your Maps... o.o...

The only reason CC2 and Bandai don't go ahead is because they are scared to make losses...
Afterall .hack only appeals to it's die-hard-fans like me --- for normal "daily endusers" the story seems too complex to follow and they usually abandon the .hack Genre soon afterwards...

They probably fear to loose the battle against games like WoW and Guildwars... Just my oppinion...
It's why I'm taking what I can get in form of .hack//FRAGMENT and try to work out my own Server for it... ^^

Last but not least - Sorry for reviving a 1 ½ month old topic but the contents did interest me and I felt like adding my own oppinion to it.
Nash
Fragment wasn't exactly successful, was it?

Did we actually get a translation of that?
Coldbird
We didn't - but I'm doing a own localization myself and am searching for assistance in form of Japanese to English Translators.

I only do the hacking part... as to cut the game wide open so we can do edits... ^^
