Xenosaga Anime Series Announced
Exclusive Announcement: ADV is bringing the sci-fi videogame series to American DVD.
by Chris Carle
June 19, 2007 - Today ADV Film announced that they will release the Xenosaga anime on DVD in the United States. The sci-fi anime series was originally produced by legendary studio Toei Animation.
Based on the popular RPG series for PlayStation and PlayStation 2, the story is inspired by the first installment of the PS2 trilogy, Episode One: Der Wille zur Macht. A fan favorite, the game was also well-received critically, garnering an 8.6 overall rating on GameStats, a videogame review score aggregation site.
There will be twelve total episodes in the series, presented on three DVDs. The first disc is scheduled to release on September 11, 2007.
Here is the synopsis, per ADV's release: "Four thousand years have passed since humans abandoned the planet Earth. Humanity is now on the brink of destruction, hunted down by a vicious alien race known as the Gnosis. The last hope of mankind rests in the hands of scientist Shion Uzuki and her creation KOS-MOS, a battling android with unfathomable capabilities. Shion and her creation are taken in by the crew of the Woglinde, a battleship of the Galaxy Federation. Unbeknownst to the crew, the Woglinde houses the Zohar, a mysterious object that attracts the Gnosis. When the Woglinde is attacked by the Gnosis, KOS-MOS is activated and begins to pursue her own mysterious plans."

Yes, I can't wait... but I've already played the first two games and watched it in Japanese. I'm dissapointed that ADV is going to translate it, though. I much prefer Bandai, they are much more reliable.

Given the anime is pretty terrible, I'm not excited at all...

Yes, well... the anime isn't all that great, though it does have some interesting changes (like that one Kirschwasser's bigger role in the anime, amongst other things). But is this getting dubbed too? That'll probably be for the worse, unless they get the voice actors from the games back (which I somehow doubt).

Hehe, this does remind me a bit of a bad sequel to a good movie where there seems to be a good chance that the main people won't be in it along with just not being as well done as it could have been. I would be much more excited if the Xenogears anime was coming out, while the dubbing in the scenes was horrible, I think it would have made a good anime look on the game. But this is about Xenosaga...I am not all that interested in it, I saw a bit of it once and I am not really that big of a fan of the art. I don't know, I love Xeno but I'm just not too interested.

Sweet. Can't wait to see the bastardized version on cartoon network.
The only way I'd ever sit down and watch an anime based on Xenosaga ( A series that still doesn't have me convinced I need to play the second and third in the series ) is if they turn it into a hentai extravaganza.
And we know that'd never happen.

This anime isn't interesting at all from my point of view. I expected so much more.

Oh, just skip two and play three. Hell, skip one if you want and play three. You KNOW you want too.
Honestly, gameplay wise three is the strongest of the series, and a lot of fun to boot. It's excellent storywise too.
As far as the anime goes, I'll probably pick it up just to see what's like, and then sell it to a friend for an exorbant price if I don't like it.

The anime is a retelling of a retelling with a budget so low that the art looks like it was drawn by a very good 6th grade drawer. I mean. For a picture it's cool, but it simply doesn't work animating it.
It'll probably show up on Adult Swim for a few weeks, or days. I mean, they showed .Hack.
I might rent the DVDs one day and show it to my friends or something.

As long as they get Crispin Freeman for Albedo, don't really care who else they use =p
I liked the anime version, watched it subbed. Virgil's role and that Kirschwasser and all were pretty interesting, though they shouldn't have removed Cherenkov's parts. Meh whatever, I liked it =)

I think they did it for time restrains. I mean, Cherenkov's side story would take at least an episode to do. And seeing as they also cut out Ziggy and MOMO's escape, then it really had no chance. Though KOS MOS vs. Ziggy was a cool fight =D.
Although, Ziggy/MOMO thing was cut out from the DS version too, and it's supposed to be canon.

I guess that they didn't find it as important. Although I did like the battle against Margulis, kept MOMO behind Ziggy. Though imo, another episode or two shouldn't have been that hard to make, since they used the Zohar Emulators as the intro screens, the 13th could have been the original Zohar, giving them room for another episode =p

I am almost 100% sure that Xerno already has a full album of yaoi stuff where Albedo ##### Nigredo or something, if thats a path you particularly want to take.

Sadly, Xenosaga yaoi is very rare (yet I do have a few of those rare gems =P ). But while on the subject of the anime, I must say that the Allen & Scott bar scene was rather... awkward (it could have been shounen-ai =p ).

It's official, I'm not seeing this overlumped piece of #####.
Was bas enough when it was a fansub with the dialouge and VAs were unbearable at time and now it's the same thing, only the series took a stabbing in the chest with a meat cleaver to rip it's beating heart out just to replace it with one with alot of clouted up values.

I've seen a list posted elsewhere of the new voice actors for each character. All are new voices, none from the games were re-used:
Luci Christian as KOS-MOS
Stephanie Wittels as Shion Uzuki
Greg Ayres as Jr.
John Gremillion as Albedo Piazzolla
Andrew Love as Luis Virgil
Andy McAvin as Margulis
Blake Shepard as Allen Ridgeley
Chris Ayres as Jin Uzuki
Chris Patton as Tony
Clint Bickham as chaos
George Manley as Vanderkam
Hilary Haag as Kirschwasser
James Faulkner as Helmer
Jason Douglas as Ziggurat 8 (Ziggy)
Jessica Boone as Mary Godwin
John Gremillion as Gaignun Kukai
Mariela Ortiz as 100-Series Observational Realian Units
Tiffany Grant as Juli Mizrahi
Vic Mignogna as Wilhelm
... I don't know any of them. Maybe they're better known to people who watch dubbed animes? The only voice I'm somewhat interested in hearing is chaos'. I never found that he had a fitting voice in any of the games (though I like his first one more than his horrible second one), maybe he's got a decent voice in the anime (wishful thinking <<'' ).

Obviously not going for high budget here. All the voice actors from Xenosaga are prominant voice actors in anime. Ziggy for example, was Richard Epcar (sp?) who was Batou, and Shion's voice actor directed English translation of Serial Experiments Lain.
chaos's voice in second and third games was better than his helium first one, I find.
But whatever.
