I'll be picking it up once I get my own 360 again... I don't think my roommate would put up with me logging in some heavy hours in an RPG on his 360.

Blue Dragon officially lands on August 28Posted Jun 28th 2007 11:30AM by

It was confirmed during
GDC this year that
Blue Dragon would be hitting the U.S.
sometime this August. We've received official word from Microsoft this morning that the game will ship on August 28. Yes, in just 61 days, U.S. games will finally be able to play Mistwalker's first opus. In celebration of
Blue Dragon, Microsoft plans to make a fan site kit available from the
official Blue Dragon page on Xbox.com (it's not available right now, despite the press release's protestations to the contrary). Xbox.com will also be hosting a feature article about the game, though it still hasn't
gone live as of this posting. For those of you still unfamiliar with the game, we suggest you check out the
recent preview from Eurogamer.
OMFG A real RPG on a Microsoft system... Truly a landmark moment. Hopefully it turns out as good as it looks.

Good news for European gamers too as they will get it earlier than the US on the August 24th.

Yeah finally a real rpg on Xbox. Who would have thought. And with an impressive development team.
It doesn't "look" very good though but looks can be decieving. Right now though I'm just very blown away by the extremely impressive story of Xenosaga 3's Disc 1 that I can hardly imagine rpg's like this delivering a good story, but thinking about Chrono Trigger... if it's something like that then I'll probably still be happy. Too bad almost no one has an Xbox arround here. I might never get to play this game.

since my friend and i are planning on getting a 360 to play the Darkness game (among others), i may as well try to get this game...
though, it reminds me of the abomination that was Draggin'on Quest 8... i may as well rent it before hand.

This is indeed the reason I'll be picking up a 360, as I've said before. I'm looking forward to what Mistwalker has planned for Microsoft in general. With Sakaguchi, Uematsu and Toriyama behind the helm, and a few familiar names in the voice-over cast, I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Yea, when I bought mine, everytime I went to the gamestop and saw the crappy lineup, I thought to myself "Why did I waste 400 dollars. .?"
There is also another one coming called Eternal Sonata. If Microsoft keeps it up, the 360 could get the shine it deserves.

Just got the game tonight, and if I'm seeing this right... it's 3 discs long. So I guess that puts an end to the "no multi-disc games" thing for Xbox 360 titles. Glad to see them actually utilizing that option now instead of trying to cram everything on 1 DVD all the time.
Just thought I'd mention this being the first 360 title that I know of to use multiple discs. I'll post again once I've spent some time with the game.

I've only played it for a few hours, but I like the game so far. The only thing that bothers me is that the main characters are like 2 feet tall while everyone else is normal height. The graphics are quite nice, and the scenery is very pretty. The soundtrack reminds me of FF7 (there is one song that sounds strangely familiar), and the voice acting ain't too bad either. I just made it to the overworld and that reminds me of TOS. It seems to lock you into this semi-top down view and you see special areas (such as towns and dungeons) repressed in tiny versions. The battle system seems pretty straight forward and it's great that you can see all of the enemies on the battlefield so you can run around them if you're not in the mood to fight. There are also some very unique ways of interacting with groups of enemies. If you fight to opposing groups of enemies, they will actually kill each other. It also seems that there are hidden items everywhere. Rocks, dead trees, rubble, and almost everything in the game contain something. I have also found a few Medals which I believe are just secret items scattered thought out the game.
My only problem is that I currently have too many games. I recently got a Wii with Zelda TP and I also have to finish up Bioshock (both games are great). Still I'm in an RPG mood right now and I think Blue Dragon will hit the spot.

I'm on disc 3 atm, leveling, doing sidequests, can go to the last boss anytime.
Well, this is one heck of a game in the past years. Many rpg's we're pretty good but didn't have much else than the main story and a few mini sidequests and/or a strongest boss + extra mini dungeon.
From what i've played it's very good. I downloaded the New game plus + hard + impossible mode from the hong kong marketplace. Altough i'm still playing on normal. The extra bosses are quite hard if your jobs/level arn't higher than 40 or so. I kind of rushed through the game since my sis almost beated it before I could play it (other house, other 360, begin all over? no thanks ^^

I was kind of underleveled when getting closer to the end @_@ with stats job/level going to the last level/boss....I got owned before entering it. (1-3 rounds = dead) I was level 29-30 mainly leveled main jobs.
I like the story Shu is kind of funny at some parts lol. Also I havn't beaten the game myself XD. My sis has the first disc atm. so i'm just leveling and doing side quests getting achievements. those strongest bosses are like almost impossible! it does 950 dmg on shu...meanwhile 999 is max hp..wtf? and that on normal. don't mind beating it on impossible mode it's gotta be IMPOSSIBLE!
and the medals...You can use them in the Gul Mountains after the dungeon where you get your 4rth character. You can't miss it. Since it's "porky porky" actually says Toripo but sounds like "porky" you'll be able to buy job hearts (job lvlv +1) and stats items with your medals. they cost 2 at first bu everytime u buy something the item's value will be raised by 2 all the time. I can awnser some questions if any of you have. Also I recommend getting this game. There hasn't been a rpg game where you can easily play 50 hours. (i'm playing 38h but w/e still havn't played enough)

I've watched a few video reviews of this game. and it seems to have gotten a lot of negative feed back. I can't see how tho. I've been watching my friend play, he's 10 hours in, and We're loving it so far, and I'm not even playing!
The reviews were generally the same, having the same negative points as the rest.
They said that the first 15 hours is extremely boring, but if you can make it past that, then a great game lies ahead etc.
They also said the story line is the biggest downfall of the game, and that it's stupid/ridiculous that some voice told a bunch of kids to eat some spheres or something.
Also the reviews complain about maromaro alot.
the reviews I've seen also said something about at some points the game gets laggy, and I've noticed this. I forget what they said was the reason, something to do with the game on the 360, which is weird because the game was made specifically for the 360 lol
as of now, I'd have to disagree with all the reviews I've read.
just watching the game I love it to death
I can see where they're coming from with their comments, but I think they're trying too hard to find th negative aspects of the game, and not focusing enough on the greatness of it
plus it's 3 discs! I don't think I've ever even seen a 2 disc REGULAR xbox game!
but again, according to reviews, the game is only about 50 hours. it's so many discs because of the excellent graphics, etc.
my own personal short review of what I like
I love the graphics, I love the character designs.
the music I find is amazing. especially the boss music
I love the levling up system, with the different classes, and how you can move certain moves into new classes
I have mixed emotions about how you can check EVERYTHING. I mean it's a good feature, but I feel like I just have to check everything, and it's all very tidius , for that 10 gold or 100xp haha

Too lazy to quote everything

I forget what they said was the reason, something to do with the game on the 360, which is weird because the game was made specifically for the 360 lolYes, I noticed it gets laggy too sometimes but I can't be bothered with that. I play/played many games which get laggy (doet it really matter?) unless it's online with lag mode on XD
I myself could have beaten it in 25 hours or something
They also said the story line is the biggest downfall of the game, and that it's stupid/ridiculous that some voice told a bunch of kids to eat some spheres or something.
Also the reviews complain about maromaro alot.Yes, If I say the name it would be spoilers. so you better wait. But you can recodnize the stupid voice (if you listen to it) altough I noticed it the first time I saw it. Marumaro? He's kind of annoying but funny, I like it. no complains for me.
plus it's 3 discs! I don't think I've ever even seen a 2 disc REGULAR xbox game!
but again, according to reviews, the game is only about 50 hours. it's so many discs because of the excellent graphics, etc. It's 50 hours for players who ain't so good. 20-40 hours for decent players. it will take some time to get all achievements and stuff. and I guess that's maybe around the 60-80 hours of playtime for decent players. dunno for the rest
the music I find is amazing. especially the boss music Yeah the boss music is awesome! XD but isn't anymore. I've heard it about a 100 times in blue dragon. Since I've seen my sis playing through the whole game from beginning to the end, my bro and myself? Can it get worse? lol.

I haven't noticed any real lag. There were a couple SMALL areas on the world map that kinda flickered a little, but nothing big enough to be called full-blown "lag".

Not sure what you're talking about. If you're taking time to play the game thoroughly, not rushing through the story the fastest way possible, it's quite a bit longer than that. I'm at above 20 hours right now and too lazy to post all my thoughts, but I'll say that I'm enjoying the game a lot and I'm no where near the end of disc 1. You'll hear more from me when I'm finished.

Another reason I can't wait to get my 360. I think i saw IGN rag on this game, but it looks old-skool and fun imo. I lvoe the fact alot of people are tapping into that untouched rpg market on x-box, and we're getting a lot of new/fresh series out of it.
The only thing i don't like about it is the character design. The main characters looks so...normal XD

I doubt the game is " lagging " anyway... Considering you're not sending any net traffic.
It may drop in FPS though.

I've still yet to play this and from what I'm reading I doubt I'll be picking it up for any more than 20 bucks. I'm an avid RPG collector, and generally buy just about any RPG worth just a small investment of time, but I like to wait until they're a bit cheaper so I don't feel lame if I paid full price for a game that's just decent.

Sep 22 2007, 04:31 PM
XD I have no such reasoning for watching for games to drop to that kind of price. Its basically because i'm totally tightfisted and won't pay more than £20-25 for games anymore fullstop XD I'm sure thatll change thought whn i get to the next gen games. I may move my margin up to £30

Double post , I know, but here comes an update, if anyone here plays blue dragon/ cares. Straight from IGN:
QUOTE
Looking for more challenge in Blue Dragon? Microsoft released a free update for the game today that includes two bumped-up difficulty modes.
The download, available now on the Xbox Live Marketplace, includes the modes Hard Game, which lets you play at a difficulty level twice as high as the original, and Impossible Game, described as "the ultimate in difficulty, meant to be played starting at level 50 or higher." A third option contained in the update, called Game Plus, lets players start over using a saved game from near the end of the story.
The three-DVD Mistwalker RPG was released in the U.S. in August and was supposed to ship with these three options.
Missing from the original December 2006 Japanese release, the extra modes were released later as downloadable content there as a "new year's gift." In March, Microsoft told IGN the U.S. and European versions of the game would contain the "new year's gift" right out of the box and that the first set of downloadable content for Western gamers would contain the modes Strong Game, 6 Treasures and Shuffled Dungeon.
No word yet on when Blue Dragon players might see those modes
Awesome. I'm looknig forward to getting this after december, and all i can say is this is another big perk on the enw generation of consoles, and online compatibility. Two new difficulties, and more importantly, an added game plus. Sweet.
