The world
Here's a picture of the planet things are going to take place in. Those of you who suspect that the picture is a color-processed (or whatever you call that) screenshot of Celestia's render of the planet Venus are absolutely-right.
Maps follow:
- world map
- geographical features
- cities
Don't forget that the world is round (and thus there's only a strip of water separating the eastern shore from the western shore)!
Rules (while there are a lot of them, don't be intimidated; they're mainly stuff you already know, and it's useful and quick to read them)
1. Have fun.
2. No god-mode.
3. Have fun.
4. Multiple characters per person are allowed.
5. Have fun.
6. Controlling another player's character(s) isn't allowed unless the other player gave you permission to do so. Arrange fights, discussions, etc in pms. You won't have to wait long anyway because people who join this rpg are expected to post at least once a week and preferably three or more times a week.
7. You guessed it: have fun.
8. Controlling npcs (non-player characters) is allowed as long as you don't make the npc side with your character against all odds, the npc doesn't save your character in her/his time of greatest need, the npc doesn't suddenly do something he normally wouldn't do (for example, you can't make a blacksmith sell all of his weapons to the highest bidder (which is likely to be your character) and turn into a farmer), and you don't change the npc's personality, looks, etc radically. If something about an npc hasn't been mentioned yet, feel free to make it up.
9. Have fun.
10. The game is supposed to follow a general storyline. This consists of a war which will eventually be won by one side (you may choose either side, and it would be great if we had several characters from both sides and not a majority of characters from one side; those on the losing side won't necessarily lose all in the end, by the way, since i'm planning a second part). While it is allowed and encouraged for other things to happen meanwhile and a character or two to walk a road parallel to the main one while not being entirely in the main plot (for example, the whole underwater-colony thing (more below) might turn into a big chapter in the story even if it isn't completely-relevant to the main plot), please don't overdo it and destroy the story.
11. Enjoy (you thought i was going to say "have fun", didn't you?).
12. Don't use your ooc/player knowledge to take advantage of a situation in the game. Your character can't possibly know the names, ages, motives and personalities of the other characters unless he's met them or read/heard about them. And your character can't possibly know that his companion was planning to betray him and steal all of his weapons unless the companion was stupid-enough to accidentally reveal it.
13. Have fun.
14. Don't roleplay in a way that will intimidate other players (if you know that a player is danish, for example, don't make a character who is constantly talking low about danes unless it is absolutely-necessary for the character to do so).
15. Yep, you all know it by now: have fun.
A brief history of Wunamaj
The state of things
The desert-world of Wunamaj has had an epic history ever since the first living organisms appeared. For eons the few life-forms that shared the planet at any given time were engaged in an endless struggle for survival in a planet with extraordinarily-little food, virtually no plant-life and no sunlight at all. The permanent shadow is cast by one of its moons, Seredina, which is positioned so that Wunamaj, Seredina and the sun form a straight line rather than a triangle; the orbital period of the planet and that of its moon are exactly the same. Seredina is larger than its planet, so it is able to shield the planet completely from the sun's light, but also less dense, so its gravity is less than Wunamaj's and so it is Seredina that orbits Wunamaj and not the other way around. Wunamaj is only saved from absolute darkness by the light reflected by its other moon, Svet, and by the light emitted by the stars that can be seen from the planet's surface. New-moon days are almost-pitch-black.
On the evolution of species and the end of "human" hunger
The first living things that appeared on Wunamaj were tiny bacteria which grew and divided over extremely-long periods of time and fed mainly on the rock that composes practically-all of the soil. It took thousands of millions of years for the first multicellular organisms to appear, and even then they ate little and reproduced slowly.
Fungi and plants, as scarce in the beginning as they are now, had to rely on the little light reflected by Svet. Surprisingly, though, this period in the planet's history differs from every other period in that they evolved into animal-like things very-quickly. The rest of Wunamaj's biological existence has seen one of the slowest evolutionary processes in the known universe.
As living beings evolved, they started to fight each-other for food. Most died out. Herbivores ate off the little plant-life there was on land and subsequently starved to death. Carnivores, then, were forced to start eating other carnivores. It was a mighty struggle that almost wiped life out entirely from Wunamaj. The only plants that remained were coral-like (in appearance only) beings that take root at the ocean's floor but can grow large-enough for some of their branches to emerge from the water's surface. The few animals which survived in the ocean are still locked in eternal battle, eating each-other constantly and rarely producing offspring capable of surviving past the first few days; they are a population doomed to die. The skies are dominated by a single species, the kakaru, massive winged creatures which also face hunger and constant depopulation. And the land has been ruled by "humanity" alone almost since it appeared; the few apes and giant lizards which still roamed the world in search for food at the time died out within a few hundred years.
Even as species evolved mindboggingly-slowly against the virtually-unchanging background of a world shielded from solar radiation and hostile even to mutation-inducing life-forms such as parasitic and symbiotic microorganisms, they tended to organize themselves in small nomadic populations; the environment simply couldn't support large numbers living at a time in a single place. Even early humanoids, when they appeared, spent their hungry existence migrating from place to place and, sometimes, resorting to cannibalism and other desperate acts as a last resort in a hostile world.
As a consequence of such acts and of the constant lack of food, populations were always extremely-small and on the verge of dying off. To most evolutionary biologists today, the survival of life on Wunamaj is a strange miracle. Those scattered humanoid populations who survived proceeded to settle down in coastal regions where they could harvest the oceanic coral-plants.
With nomadism over and the first villages starting to be built, the conglomeration of similar species that is now referred-to as "humanity" reached a point of static survival both in a geographic sense and in a numeric sense: sedentarism and the comfort of better-organized, more-distributed harvesting reduced hunger and stabilized populations.
For millennia people lived in isolated self-ruled cities and made no contact with other cities. Populations mostly kept to themselves, as they were too-busy trying to stay alive. Never did a city house more than a few hundred people at a time, for, with no animals to kill and since kakaru have very-little meat in their bodies, the only food available was the scarce plant-life. People kept to the coasts, and the coral-plants reproduced over periods of dozens of years, so famine was still fairly-common. Cannibalism, however, was basically over.
With no contact between populations, technological advances occurred slowly, as the news of the discovery or invention of something in one city never left that city's borders and the people in each city had to discover and invent everything independently. There was one technological breakthrough, however, which allowed Wunamaj to arrive at its present state. Eventually the people of one city, Pleneris, developed the science of genetic engineering, which was more a mysterious technique than a science at first. They discovered that, by changing the genetic code of plants, they could make new species that could grow on land, yield more food, survive harsher conditions and reproduce quicker. In what might have been a humanitarian act or a selfish greed for power and riches, plenerii scientists travelled the world and showed other cities their achievements. Cities traded fortunes for that technology, and Pleneris grew rich beyond its people's dreams.
In less that five years' time, most of the cities in the world had built massive domes which held farmhouses with more plants per farmhouse than there were people in the whole world, and those cities which didn't have these "biodomes" fell back in every aspect of progress and eventually their people starved to death, as would have happened to the rest of Wunamaj had this invaluable piece of technology not been developed. Every biodome had a laboratory where research continued, so the genome of every living thing on Wunamaj and the function of every gene were quickly discovered and documented. Famine became a memory, an archaic name for a horrible nightmare of the past.
This allowed people to start concentrating on other aspects of civilization. Although food-related technology had been the focus of scientific attention ever since history had started to be recorded, other technology now saw an instant boost; cities grew past the 10,000-people mark; and, as trade was established between cities and became an everyday activity across the globe, commonwealths and trading pacts were formed. Cities were built inland, and the already-limited biologic diversity between the species that constituted "humanity" became irrelevant as migration and trade increased. Globalizing technologies, the Act of Equal Rights, the development of a global language, trade and the worldwide network of railways turned differences between species into racial features. All intelligent beings on any part of Wunamaj could finally enjoy the same technology as every other part of the world, the luxury of travel, and plentiful food. And, although social classes did not disappear, there were no wars; with no organized religion to drive people into conflicts and all cities having access to all technology in the world, no city-leader who felt the need to expand their domain felt capable of doing so.
Today
The whole world is perfectly-communicated with the whole world through satellite-driven telecommunication systems and through a network of railroads that links every city to every nearby city. The transport system is extremely-effective and very-cheap. However, personal transport means do exist and are used.
Wunamaj recently gave birth to an international project known as the Sea Plan. This project consists of the construction of a massive underwater city and is widely-seen as a very-promising start for the colonization of the only part of Wunamaj that isn't inhabited by "humanity" -- the ocean. However, the project is still in its early stages and anything from a biodome failure to a flood caused by high pressures on a weak wall to sabotage by a conservative group could happen.
The spark that set the world aflame
Some time ago, through lengthy analysis of photographs taken by Wunamaj-orbiting satellites, scientists discovered that there is something far-brighter than Svet in the sky -- it is just hidden from view by Seredina, which is now known to be a second moon and not a starless circular area in the sky. So one scientist had the idea to blow Seredina up in order for Wunamaj to receive all the light available in the sky and "be finally rid of the eternal darkness in which it was born" and in order to better understand the physics of the sky and of this new blinding object.
Since the idea was made public Wunamaj saw a previously-unheard-of amount of disputes burst out everywhere on its surface. Eventually the arguments about whether it was a good idea or a bad idea to destroy Seredina turned into acts of terrorism and ultimately a world war between two sides: the pro-Seredina groups (who claim that "humanity" doesn't know what could come with the increase in light and heat and that life is alright as it is and there's no need to change it) and the pro-demolition groups (who claim that destroying Seredina is in the best interest of science and that the sunlight would eliminate the need for biodomes by allowing more species to live at a time). Both sides still consist only of scattered groups in almost-every city and are still mostly-disorganized, although recently the northwestern coastal city of Ivanivka was taken by force by a pro-demolition group that declared the whole city to be pro-demolition. The next step in Ivanivka's military agenda is to begin uniting the pro-demolition groups across the world to deal a final, lethal strike to the pro-Seredina groups and "get the whole bloody thing done with already".
Some additional info
Time-telling
Since there is no day/night cycle in Wunamaj, a day is defined as the time it takes Svet to go through its full cycle from full moon to new moon and back to full moon. Wunamajians also invented smaller units of time, which they called hours; a day in Wunamaj has 414 hours. Even-smaller units of time, like minutes (60 minutes = 1 hour) and seconds (60 seconds = 1 minute), also exist and are used for scientific research and for train schedules.
All ages in the character profiles/sheets are in Earth-years to make it easier to imagine how old each character is.
Questions which i'll answer before they have a chance to arise
How long does a wunamajian live? Around 70-90 Earth-years, which is... *counts* many Wunamaj-days.
Are there any gods, spirits or other forms of ethereal/special/unique/magical/mythological beings in Wunamaj? Although Wunamaj is a planet that enjoys probably the greatest freedom of thought in the known universe (not counting the current war, which has been Wunamaj's first) and anybody may believe in whatever they want, the existence of such beings has been neither proved nor disproved. For the sake of coherence and fun, though, i suggest we don't introduce any into the story except as expressions or in explanations of a character's beliefs.
What's the importance of the water colony? Well, it's the first step towards the colonization of the underwater portion of Wunamaj. As such, it has the potential to become extremely-important to the history of the planet. It may be turned into a military base for one of the groups, it may become a high-priority objective for both sides, it may all go wrong and result in the death of an important character, it might become a haven/refuge for people who don't want to fight in the war.... anything might happen (except the discovery of intelligent life in the ocean or ancient underwater cities of unknown origin or anything like that).
Do i HAVE to make/use a/the character sheet? No, but if you don't then make sure to include all the info in your description paragraph(s). In either case, the info you should include is:
- NAME
- ORIGIN/HISTORY
- AGE
- PERSONALITY
- IDEOLOGY/MOTIVES
- HEALTH
- APPEARANCE
- OTHER TRAITS
- ITEMS
How are all the species or subspecies that constitute "humanity" different from each other? They aren't, basically. Some are taller, some are hairier, some have darker skin.... it's just racial features. You can invent a subspecies that is taller than all others or always has yellow eyes or tends to grow sharper teeth or anything, but try not to stop resembling real-life human beings.
Why are there very-little cities? There aren't. There can be as many as necessary. Anybody can invent a city anywhere on the land portions of Wunamaj (just tell me where it is exactly so i can add it to the map) and place any kinds of monuments/buildings/stuff in it (remember that for most of "humanity"'s time there was no contact between populations and this allowed for totally-different architectural styles and cultures to emerge, although newer cities tend to have similar architecture to each-other; coastal cities are old, and inland cities are new). Just be sure not to make too-many inland cities; after all, the colonization of the non-coastal regions began only recently.
Glossary
This section is for all invented things/objects/places/npcs that might/will appear in the game. Feel free to invent anything and describe it; i will add stuff to the glossary as more things are invented. Feel free also to add buildings/people/statistics to any city that already exists.
Weapons
Weapons started to be developed by both sides almost as soon as the Seredina arguments burst out all over the world. Thus, there are still very-few weapons and not all groups have access to all weapons. However, actively being part of a group means guaranteed access to at least one type of weapon. A list of weapons follows (yes, some weapons, and also some vehicles (info after weapons), are based on weapons and vehicles from video-games i am or used to be particularly-fond-of, like, respectively, Halo and Unreal Tournament; i hope this is ok with the mods). Some weapon names (but not all) are links to pictures.
Needler - A small gunlike thing that shoots transparent spikes (or "needles") which stick to the target (or bounce off hard surfaces like floors, glass, walls, vehicles or armor) and release an electric charge a few seconds after hitting their target. The more needles there are stuck on the target, the more collective damage. 15 needles going off at once can kill a person.
Light sword - A handle with two blades (both point forward and are side by side) surrounded by intense light generators. Very powerful melee weapon; burns enemies with the light's heat and cuts virtually-anything with the combined power of the blades and the heat.
Pulse gun - A sort of barrel machine gun (a bit fatter than the average machine gun) which fires green plasma balls (or a single green plasma ray, depending on the model) which burn the target.
Machine gun - Your standard machine gun.
Sniper rifle - Also comes with tranquilizer darts for targets you don't want to neutralize permanently.
Flamethrower - no explanation needed here, I hope.
Hand grenade - Yep, pretty-standard too.
Plasma cannon / plasma gun - No decent pic here, sorry. This is a sort of fat cannon with a small handle on one side and a small button next to the handle. When the button is pressed, the cannon releases a powerful plasma ball that deals extreme damage to targets (burns materials instantly; can easily rip a hole in someone's chest, so one-shot kills are common but not a rule with this gun). Relatively-long cooldown period when compared to other weapons (which means that you can't fire three shots in just five seconds).
Rocket launcher and grenade launcher - Do i need to explain these?
There is no nuclear weaponry currently in existence, and, realistically-speaking, it is extremely-unlikely that it will be developed or even thought of in the short time this story spans. Sorry for seeming bossy, but i don't want 46789567465797 wunamajians wiped out and the war won in a single second.
Some vehicles can have weapons built into them (more info below).
Absolutely-no magic (this includes time travel, which is, scientifically, impossible).
Vehicles
Buggy / jeep - An all-terrain vehicle that seldom gets damaged beyond a few scratches and peeled paint. Weapons, especially explosive and plasma ones, can take it out easily, but crashing won't do anything to it except in extreme cases and/or 48756938467845-meter falls onto this kind of terrain.
Combat buggy / combat jeep - A buggy that has had its two back seats removed and a machine-gun turret placed instead.
Hoverbike - An extremely-fast one-person transport with excellent acceleration, moderate curve-handling and poor stability (much like a modern motorcycle, heh..). Just like the ghosts in Halo but without the weapons. Some models have winglets and others don't.
Combat hoverbike - A hoverbike with two small, rapid-firing (albeit much-less-powerful than their handheld counterpart) plasma cannons attached, usually under the winglets (if any).
Ultralight - As its name implies, this is an extremely-light one-person or two-person short-elevation plane. It's becoming increasingly-common, but it's still not an everyday sight anywhere in Wunamaj. Extremely-fast at the cost of being extremely-vulnerable. This is perhaps the most-customizable vehicle available, since virtually-anything (including weapons and hardened plating) can be added to it -- at a price.
Fast train - Only public transport available in Wunamaj, although soon it'll lose that title and become one of two available public-transport systems (see dropship).
Dropship - Reinforced plane-like thing that can carry up to perhaps 40 or 50 people at a time. Pretty-resistant and moderately-fast. Still in development, though. Expect it to come into play at some point during the game (unless everybody, myself included, forgets about it).
Construction unit - The standard vehicle for building things (can't attack because it's only about twice as big as an average person, it's not that fast, and it doesn't have any weapons except for a welder and metal-cutting lasers); no structure is ever built by hand anymore.
There is no space-exploration or space-travel planned beyond that related to orbital satellites. Perhaps a robot could be sent to one or both of the moons for soil samples, but i don't see the relevance of that to the story. Again, sorry if i come across as bossy but i really don't want to complicate things by introducing space-colonization or encounters with alien species. That said, no aliens can land on Wunamaj either.
Substances and other objects
Milk - The most-powerful drug known to wunamajians. Extremely-addictive illegal hallucinogen which is very-hard to find and ridiculously-expensive. For some people, though, it is the only acceptable currency...
Cash card - Like a debit card, only there are no banks and so all of one person's money is stored in their cash card. Everything is paid by transferring money from one person's card to another person's card via infrared signal and a small keyboard on each card. People get their salaries in the same way.
Npcs
Damien KolferKolfer - His place and date of birth are unknown. Damien is the owner of The Mirror (he is known as The Boatman). As such, only those few people who know about The Mirror know about Kolfer's existence; he is inexistent and invisible to the government and to most of the world, not even a mythical or legendary figure; no documents or records exist with his name on them. He seldom shows his face in public and never gives his real name to anybody, not even his clients, all of which are sworn to secrecy before receiving Kolfer’s services and monitored by Kolfer himself thereafter; so far nobody has betrayed his trust, and anyone who stumbles into his abode by accident is permanently silenced. He is a cautious man who nevertheless keeps to his word. His memory is excellent. He is a prodigal fist-fighter and also holds his own with weapons, of which he always keeps three for self-protection: a light sword, a machine gun and a plasma cannon, all stolen. To live, he steals electricity from nearby buildings, makes bullets for his machine gun himself and harvests sea plants the old-fashioned way.
Characters
Hyeronimus Fawn (Gargravarr)
Background: Hyeronimus was born and raised in Pleneris. He grew up to be a diplomat and was chosen by the government of Pleneris to work in Valia as a diplomat and spy. He is rumored to have fathered a few children there. As soon as he had reached a high-enough status, he asked to be transferred back to Pleneris. He is currently a spy and military leader, running "errands" of a less diplomatic kind for one of the pro-Seredina groups. He controls a network of information that keeps him up to date about practically everything and everyone in Pleneris. He recently saved the city from starvation (the now nonexistent plenerii pro-demolition group tried to blow up the biodome in Pleneris after their missile research facility was destroyed by an army under Fawn's command), so he's considered somewhat of a hero in Pleneris and several surrounding cities.
Age: 59
Personality: Hyeronimus is a sarcastic, sad, solitary man who masks his temper under a cover of patience and resignation. He is able to remain calm in a crisis, bored by discussions and easily annoyed by action, and he performs the tasks he's assigned with little passion and rather mechanically. He is not too outspoken, and he has learned not to ask too many questions, not even to himself.
Ideology and motives: His loyalties lie in full with the preservation of Seredina.
Health and appearance: Hyeronimus is fairly-fit for his age but still an old man with all that this entails: he is a balding man who has grown apathetic with time and experience. He is somewhat athletic for his age, though. He is tall and has dark skin and somewhat of a heavy build. His eyes are blue like his late mother's, and his hair is black with a tinge of auburn. Several scars line his arms and face, and something in his facial features betrays the fact that he's never been a handsome man.
Other attributes He is a cunning and extremely persuasive man. He is beginning to learn how to use weapons and means of transportation, and he's doing pretty well. He is treated with respect and awe by most younger people who know him, although this doesn't amount to any spectacular number of people. As a diplomat and partly because of his reputation, he is seen by his enemies as a figure inspiring fear and suspicion.
Possessions: Hyeronimus has plenty of money, service cars and jeeps provided by the government, and personal drivers. He also has a house in the countryside he seldom has the time to visit.
Kive Boskava (Gargravarr)
Background: Kive was born into a comfortable (but not excessively rich) family in Ivanivka and has lived there all his life. He currently studies atomic physics at the Ivanivka University (he's in the third of five years), although with the beginning of what looks a lot like a war most academic activities have stopped and the university has turned into somewhat of a weapons production/research facility. It originally had a pro-Seredina majority, but that has changed in recent days. During the second year of his career, Kive heard about the proposal to destroy Seredina and started helping the pro-demolition group in his city by acquiring weapons and teaching people how to use them. He has gotten quite involved with weapons research, and he has been learning how to use the weapons that have been produced in his city and in other cities. Recently he has also started working as a spy and taking a more active military role, being somewhat of a leader. He has access to virtually any weapon in existence, although some of the weapons that were developed in distant parts of the world and have not reached Ivanivka are not part of his repertoire, as he doesn't have any connections outside of Ivanivka yet. To support himself and the revolution, he works part-time at the Ivanivka Library. In the last few days he and the rest of the local pro-demolition group took the city by force and declared the city pro-demolition. A ruler for the city has not yet been decided upon.
Age: 21
Personality: Kive mostly keeps to himself but can talk for hours at a time with somebody he knows and trusts; he is pretty indifferent to anybody he doesn't know but a warm person towards his friends and family (although he never trusts anybody completely). He doesn't like places with many people in them at a time. He is also very explosive and sometimes even irrational when he is pissed off; some of his bursts of anger have ended in serious injury to both himself and whoever pissed him off, but so far nobody has died by his hand except for the warriors that opposed him when he took Ivanivka. He is somewhat of a pessimist, but nevertheless he believes firmly that what he is fighting for can be achieved if enough strategy, technology and firepower (in that order of importance) are put into it. Being more scared of pain than of death, he would even be willing to die for the cause when he is in a good mood. When he is not preoccupied with the ongoing conflict or with physics, he has a passion for art, especially music and literature.
Ideology and motives: Kive is an atheist. As such and as a physicist-to-be, he always seeks logical explanations for things and insists on the existence of said explanations, even when there doesn't seem to be one. As mentioned before, he fights for the pro-demolition group in his hometown.
Health and appearance: He has no known diseases. Indeed, his is an average man for his age in all physical traits: not exceptionally strong but not weak either, not an olympic runner but pretty fit due to his age, etc. He is skinny but not too much and has light skin, grey eyes and straight black hair down to his jawbone. He does not like to let any facial hair grow on himself.
Other attributes: Kive has a good (but not perfect) aim with all guns and is alright with a light sword. However, his aim with throwing things is terrible. He is one of the best hoverbike drivers in his city and can drive most non-military ground vehicles and some military ones.
Possessions: As mentioned earlier, Kive has access to virtually any weapon. However, he gives most of them to the revolution. The only weapons he keeps with himself at all times are two needlers and a few hand grenades. He also has a sporty black hoverbike which he recently adapted to be a combat model.
Uli Orumov (Gargravarr)
Background: Uli was born in the city of Severnaja into a relatively poor family. His father was the man in charge of the explosives in building projects and could barely afford an education for his only son; his mother died from a mysterious disease when Uli was five. The boy was forced to drop out of school when he was fifteen years old to work as a builder and bring money to his family after his father lost an arm in an accident at work. Uli toiled hard until age 23, when his father died. With nobody except himself to look after, Uli could now afford to get into a university. Building being the only thing he knew, he decided to study engineering. After that he got a degree in materials sciences. In order to pay for his studies, especially in later years, when more and more technology started to be put into practice in construction matters and to threaten human labor in that field, he often had to work overtime. When the underwater-colony project bega, Uli was one of the first people to apply for the job of building it. He helped lay out the plans for the submarine city and develop pressure-resistant materials, and he quickly rose to construction supervisor of the project. Nevertheless, being more a builder than an administrator, he never stopped getting his hands dirty and would always toil side by side with the people he was supposed to supervise. Today he still helps build the colony.
Age: 34
Personality: Uli knows from experience that hard work is the only way to achieve things, so he never slacks or leaves things until the next day if he has the time and physical strength to do it that day. He wakes up early every day and works with enthusiasm; he loves his current job. Though not nearly as good at supervising as he is at working with his hands, he performs his duties with responsibility and as best he can. He is not a person who thinks much into the future; he currently doesn't know what he'll do after the underwater colony is finished, for example. He is a persistent man; failure is an option, but giving up is not.
Ideology and motives: While Uli is all for progress of any kind, he does not fully understand the implications of destroying Seredina and thus is not really interested in that problem. His only goal right now is to complete the underwater colony with his colleagues.
Health and appearance: Years of hard labor have strengthened him. He is a very healthy and sturdy man, and the only "unhealthy" thing about him is that his two last fingers from his left hand are missing --a few years ago he had an accident: a large rock fell on his hand, trapping those two fingers, and when they pulled him out they could not save the fingers--, which isn't really a problem for him. Uli is broad-shouldered and slightly higher than average. His dirty-brown hair falls in almost-straight strands to his cheekbones, and he usually likes to wear a two-day-old beard, all of which makes him look less responsible than he really is. Since he spends hours upon hours of manual work every day, his clothes consist most of the time of dirty blue jeans, an equally-dirty black sleeveless shirt and weathered but still good black boots. His eyes are a dark shade of blue with random streaks of dark-grey and black all over his irises.
Other attributes: Over the years, Uli has become an expert with most construction vehicle models. This includes both older models, like cranes and bulldozers, and the newer models, which look somewhat like giant robotic people. He also knows just about everything there is to know about construction and engineering and a considerable amount of materials science. Though not exceptionally intelligent, he is not stupid either, and he always knows what he is doing. He is not an athlete by any means, although he has beaten almost everybody he has ever worked with at arm-wrestling. He is not proficcient with weapons at all and hasn't heard of most of them, but he does have a bit of experience with explosive weapons like grenades and rocket launchers --used as a repacement for dynamite when they run out of it-- and needlers --used to test material conductivity and resistance to electricity--; while he believes that these are useful tools, he would be horrified at the idea of using any of them to kill a man.
Possessions: Uli has an office on the coast just next to where the underwater city is being built, his clothes, and a few books he seldom has the time or energy to read because he spends most of his time out in the field. He still owns the house that belonged to his parents before they died back in Severnaja, but he hasn't set foot in it since the underwater colony project began.
Endarr Vol (Endarr Vol)
Background: Endarr was genetically experimented on as a fetus. He was taken from his parents, whoever they were, after he was born in Pleneris and was kept in a lab, where they kept experimenting on him until his early 20s. Then he killed two of the scientists that experimented on him and escaped from the lab. Thus, he is on the search-list of Pleneris, although he is nowhere near the top of that list. After his escape, he took the train to Fazera, but upon arriving there he caused some trouble and went to jail.
Age: early 20s
Personality: As a result of the genetic engineering, Endarr sometimes has sudden bursts of extreme anger and violence which he can't control. He generally distrusts people because of what they did to him. He is in a constant search for something that could give meaning to his life, the universe and everything. He is largely against technology in a broad sense (he is not against small or everyday advances, and he is not against a few specific things) because of what was done to him. Thus, he is somewhat against the demolition of Seredina. He believes strongly in freedom.
Health and appearance: The genetic engineering performed on him as a fetus has affected his life largely: he has a somewhat crooked posture and cannot stand up completely straight; he is very thin and unable to grow hair on any part of his body; he is considerably stronger and faster than regular people and has a better sight than average; and he cannot feel pain or anything else that involves nerve ends. He has yellow eyes.
Other attributes: Endarr is cunning and, as a result of his superior strength, speed and sight, an excellent streetfighter. He has a natural ability with weapons even though he doesn't really know much about them.
Dominic Rostropov (Dragon Brigade)
Background: Born in the city of Thadekta, the most criminally active city on Wunamaj, Dominic had a poor childhood. His parents could barely handle taking care of him, so eventually he was cast off to live on his own. He had no education except for the street life. His teachers were the citizens of Thadekta, the thieves. His tutors were the rehabilitation center / jail he was forced into after being caught for a crime. However, due to the poor living conditions of the city, the center was not well funded and easy to escape without further inquiry. He is quite in the dark about the history of the world he lives in. The only thing he knows is that if he doesn’t watch his back somebody’s going to come right around and kill him. Travelling out into the world would be slightly dangerous for him, because he has faced many trials and tribulations in Thadekta. Of course, it may ease his mind of its worries, but that remains to be seen. As of yet, the only person he even somewhat trusts is himself. However, he has always had a passion for writing. Dominic has had no formal education, but as a thief he has managed to scrounge books, paper and ink, and sometimes he even managed to overhear a few language lessons given at the poor elementary school in Thadekta. It was not the most thourough of explanations; however, it gave Dominic a foundation for his learning. He used the knowledge he retained from those classes to learn to read and write. Sometimes he keeps a diary of sorts, though as to be expected there are many misspellings and much incorrect usage of words.
Age: 35
Personality: Dominic is a quiet and soft-spoken but stubborn man with a slight depression. He is also paranoid.
Ideology and motives: Being raised in such a terrible place, his main goal is to stay alive. If he finds himself at risk in any way, he reacts accordingly in order to preserve his well-being. Trust is not something he gives away easily. Being a common thief, trusting in someone else could get him killed. However, if he found a cause he believed in, other than simply staying alive, he would put his whole heart into seeing it done. If he believes in one goal, getting him to believe a different idea would be hard to do without sufficient evidence and persuasion.
Health and appearance: Dominic is considered to have obssessive-compulsive disorder because of his finicky nature. Whether he does or not remains to be seen. He rarely gets ill otherwise; he catches a common cold occassionally, but not much else. He has a good metabolism. His skin is tan, his hair is short and black, his eyebrows are thin, and his eyes are emerald-green. He wears a semi-tight torn brown shirt, brown pants and torn leather shoes. He has a scar on his left elbow reaching up to his shoulder.
Other attributes: Dominic is a liar and a thief.
Possessions: Dominic has two throwing knives and a stolen cash card.
Amelis Prahk (Dragon Brigade)
Background: Amelis was raised in Thadekta by her grandmother, yet her upbringing and set of morals hint at that she was born elsewhere. As a teenager she fed the starving younger children who roamed the streets while making sure none of them knew it was her (that would have brought unneeded attention to herself; at the time she started doing this she was fifteen). Dominic Rostropov caught her attention when he was a child, always sneaking glances in to her classroom to overhear her classes. She left the journal for Dominic to find and write in. She quit her job after teaching for six years (at age 26) and moved to Ivanivka with cousins so she could study in a better atmosphere concerning the current crisis facing Wunamaj. There she fell in love with a man who was quite unaware that she loved him (he died at age 33; she was 31); a secret admirer, if you will.
Age: 49
Personality: Amelis maintains a pleasant attitude in front of others. She keeps most of her personal thoughts to herself. She helps others when they need it but knows when something begins to drastically work against her favor. She makes her mind be heard when she feels it is absolutely necessary for things to go smoothly. She does not change her mind often unless she realizes something she used to believe in goes against her morals.
Ideology and motives: As of yet she does not know where she stands on the current Wunamaj crisis. She would put her life on the line if it meant to save anybody or anything, though.
Health and appearance: Amelis has long red hair, blue eyes and pale skin. She wears a form-fitting black top along with a black belt and wwitches between a black skirt and black pants. She is susceptible to cold but otherwise has no real health problems.
Other attributes: Amelis is a stubborn woman. She is shy in public but outgoing with those she feels most comfortable with.
Possessions: Being a scholar, Amelis's main possessions are books. She has no weapons yet.
Erica Valhart (Exire)
Background: Growing up poor like many others in the modest inland city of Ney, she was raised well by her parents, or at least as well as they could raise her. It was inevitable that Erica would get herself in trouble, however. She dropped out of school, seeing as all she did during that time was get into fights anyway. She ended up becoming a bit of a tomboy, doing things that "girls shouldn't be doing", as her naive mother put it. Smoking, drinking, getting into fights, vandalizing for no reason: those were all things she did with her friends. After some time, though, Erica figured out on her own that to survive and be treated like a normal human being she would have to make her own living. Probably nobody would think of hiring someone who had dropped out of school. After some thinking, she found herself to be somewhat of a pyromaniac. Stealing some high-tech mining gear and putting together a team to make some nice money as well as have them help her take ownership of some larger and more dangerous materials, she set out. With her team of fellow diggers, whom she has grown to trust and count on, she continues to go out, blowing up spots below the sand around Ney in hopes of finding some minerals to sell for a fancy price.
Age: 22
Personality: Erica is somewhat naive but has a strong will. She doesn't give out her trust easily. She is fun, roudy and a bit loud at times; she likes to have a good laugh.
Ideology and motives: Erica tends to stay up to date with what is going on in the world and the whole issue with the moon Seredina. She hears the rumors on the street but often just considers them rumors. Erica doesn't care whether things stay dark or the whole planet lights up and becomes an oven; she knows that either way she'll still be going out and doing her digging. It's the only life she knows, and if someone gets on the way of stopping her way of life she knows full well how to get revenge.
Health and appearance: Erica is a healthy young woman. With her line of work, she may get quite dirty, but with her stolen body suit it's usually just her face, which she washes clean at the end of the day. She is thin all around and has blonde hair tied in a ponytail. She wears an orange-red one-piece thin-plated armor. During her digging expeditions she wears small, circular goggles over her eyes.
Other attributes: She is proficient with guns, has a good throwing arm and can keep up well in a brawl. She knows how to get what she wants through "forceful interpretation" and seductiveness.
Possessions: Erica has a few light grenades and numerous regular hand grenades. Her firearms are a needler and a simple pistol.
Thoril Falconsflight (OriginalVampire)
Background: Thoril was raised in Thadekta as a killer for a crime lord and was branded with the crime lord's insignia. After twenty years, Thoril was betrayed by his boss. He killed everyone who took part in the betrayal and went into hiding soon after. Now he has come back to the surface and works as a hired killer. After the Seredina conflict started getting bigger, he found himself killing people from both sides: anyone who would come near him. His early life is a blur from all the beatings he has obtained from the crime gang and from fights.
Age: 24
Personality: Thoril is a cold-blooded killer; he has no emotions and doesn't trust anyone. He will sometimes go into a bloodlust state, killing everything that moves. He has been known to eat the corpses of some of his victims.
Ideology and motives: Thoril works for money and doesn't care who he's been hired by. Sometimes Thoril will even kill his employer. He does want to find somewhere he will be accepted as who he is, though, and to learn more about his past.
Health and appearance: Thoril is in near-perfect condition but has mental breakdowns sometimes. He has bleached blonde hair that reaches his shoulders and deep blue icy eyes. He wears a sleeveless shirt and jeans most of the time. He has a steel dog-chain necklace and a giant flaming skull on his back as the crime lord's insignia. Belonging to one of the less-common subspecies of humanity, he has a long black tail, which he uses for melee fighting and balance, sharp claws on his fingers, and larger canines in his mouth.
Possessions: Thoril has several weapons: a machine gun, five hand grenades, two basic hand guns and a broken sniper rifle he wants to get fixed. He also owns a cash card.
Kaim "Shade" Kehatsu (Shadow Cloud)
Background: A man who has been around for as long as many remember, his age remains elusive to even the most educated scholars. He first appeared in the far northern lands. He was said to be from the nightmarish town of Thadekta. Kaim has a certain affinity to the nocturnalness of the planet. He was born, if it is proper to say, with unusually sharp fang-like teeth. Some speculations from people who've met or seen him have dubbed him a somewhat mythical creature, a vampire. He is a very enigmatic individual and what little is known about him is that he is an excellent shot with a sniper rifle, is one of the world's greatest swordsmen and has a rather bloody past.
Age: unknown
Personality: Kaim is quick-witted and keeps to himself; he doesn't reveal his name often and is known only as "Shade". He finds that killing in most cases is the only solution.
Ideology and motives: He fights to make sure that the moon that keeps the constant night always remains to preserve darkness.
Health and appearance: Kaim has a white complexity, wears a sleeveless jet-black trench coat with black fingerless guantlets reaching his elbow and has runic tribal tattoos covering most of what is exposed of his arm. He also wears dark-blue military pants with many pockets, most with pills to steady his arm while he is sniping and rifle bullets for his trusty sniper rifle. He wears light black boots with silver buckles and a a sleevless black undershirt. He has shoulder-length shaggy black hair with red tips and some vague black facial hair in the form of a beard. His eyes are an ice-cold blue with a couple of little red and black specks added to his already-odd eye color.
Other attributes: Kaim has excellent marksmanship and remarkable accuracy even from the longest of distances. He also has an increased speed and excellent melee prowess.
Possessions: Kaim's weapons consist of a sniper rifle, a standard-issue .44 magnum pistol, a regular light sword, a black metallic sword with no light generators, and grenades.
Deceit (neko_oni)
Background: Deceit had a hard life. He was always hated by the other kids and usually pushed aside by them. One day, though, it had gone to far. He doesn't remember what happened then, but he does remember waking up in a holding cell in an underground prison on an island somewhere in the ocean west of Ivanivka. There he remained most of his life, until the conflicts began. He was then pulled out of the prison and forced into the ranks of the pro-demolition group in Ivanivka. He soon escaped, though, and began a group that plans to colonize Seredina. If it comes to the worst, they plan to join the pro-Seredina. They first convinced most of the population of the very small islands nearby to join their cause and now use the abandoned prison Deceit once was in as a research base to find a way to inhabit Seredina.
Age: He lost count of his age whilst in prison.
Personality: He is kind and sweet to women of all kinds; he is a smartass towards men, no matter their position.
Ideology and motives: He wants to colonize Seredina as an alternative to both destroying it and living in eternal darkness.
Health and appearance: Deceit is extremely healthy and fit; however, he does suffer slightly from a virus similar to asthma, which he caught while in the dark prison. He is about 2.39 meters tall and weighs about 91 kilograms. He is solid muscle (not to a point of grossness, only to a point of cuteness) but skinny, and he is extremely quick on his feet. He has long jet-black hair with an ocean-blue tint. He has it held back in a braided ponytail. He also has a medium-length goatee and no mustache. His eyes look like the night sky, his pupils look like the moon, and the rest of his eyes appears to be stars and that eternal darkness that we know as space. His fingers are long and of medium width, and his toes are of normal length. Most of his body is pretty much hairless except his face and head. He usually wears darker clothing to match the color of his eyes and hair. His ears are also fox-like and share the same color as the hair on his head.
Other attributes: Deceit can see in the dark, kind of in the Riddick style. He also has superhuman intelligence, though he is pretty ignorant of today's world and ways, so he may seem stupid. He has a rare ability to read other people's thoughts somewhat.
Possessions: Deceit carries two light swords, a sniper rifle and a backpack full of surprises.
