You know you can't get enough of these fav topics! And let's widen the boundaries of that 'favourite main character' topic! 8D
Pretty much explains itself. Which Tales character is your favourite?
Now, I'm not going to keep this strictly playable. You can choose non-playable if one of them suits your fancy. Like for example: Peony the Third (Tales of the Abyss)
But please state why. Why is he/she your favourite character(s)? What made him/her shine so much brighter than the rest?
Don't really worry about spoilers, just don't give away every detail -- same old, same old.
Alrighty! Have fun! :]
Here's mine.
My current favourite (Yeah, my fav's change over time, but only some more than others) would have to be Guy Cecil, or Gailardia Galan Gardios as is his real name, from Tales of the Abyss. At first, I liked him for his sweet personality and his gynophobia was always able to let loose a quick laugh from me, but my opinion got stronger after the Akzeriuth and Curse Slot events.
Guy is more to the eye; he's not just Luke's servant who protects and serves him on a whim because of his obligation and loyalty to the Duke Fabre. Actually, he can spit in the duke's eye and laugh without fear, but his motives are placed a lot higher than that. Despite said motives and his personal vendeta, he grew to become Luke's friend. Being the only one of the party members to return willingly to Luke's side, when everyone gave up on him and his attitude in opt for Asch.
He even makes his reasons clear to both Asch and Luke. He didn't trust Asch as easily as the rest and he is not the Luke he took care of and grew to be his friend. Even saying that Asch is Asch and Luke is Luke. The real Luke is "that idiot".
It was after the Curse Slot event that I really began to respect Guy even more. His hatred for the duke runs so deep that when he couldn't control his actions and desires, he went after Luke. He did explain that he hated Luke, too, but you know that at the same time, he didn't want to. Even with his recent murder attempt (I can't think of a better word), he still wanted to travel with Luke. Not caring (probably not even thinking, but I'm not going to debate that) that it would put a strain on their relationship, as well as the rest of the party's.
Basically, it's his strength of heart and his sense of friendship and loyalty that really shone through for me. His friendship with Luke which feels almost scandalous given his position and values on what he thinks is first and foremost. Almost like being friends with the enemy. ;p But that's a tad extreme.
And...I'm going to stop! XD
I'm going on too long and as it is, I might end up retelling the story or writing an essay.
So, what about everyone else? GET TO POSTING OR I SMITE YOU!!! ♥~

My favorite characters are
Senel Coolidge- Senels starts out to be your average jerkface for a main character and not to mention he has his over protective tendencies for Shirley throughout the 1st half of the Main Quest, as you progress throughout the game things get revealed about Senel's past like who he really was before he met with Stella and Shirley, the burden that he carried for 3 years, and the sad reality he had to accept in chap.4. Another thing about Senel is that you see his gradual change of character while still having some bits and pieces of his old stubborn self but at the same time being more friendlier and open to the people around him, more like his maturity is what wowed me.
Norma Beatty- Filling out the energetic and optimistic flat-chested(lol j/k) archetype in the Main Quest, it is actually in the character quest that this so-called annoying girl shines. Throughout the Main Quest the player knows that Norma's purpose for boarding the Legacy is in search for the Everlight, that is said to be able to grant any wish, although it is not explained why and for what purpose. In the Character Quest it is revealed that Norma's master, Sven, was also looking for the everquest but the scholars in the mainland have agreed that the Everlight doesn't exist and that the search for the item has already been stopped for years. But Sven still pursued the search for the everlight and went on a journey until he arrived at the Legacy where he last stopped before he disappeared. Norma decided to continue her Master's dream even though she knew how difficult it was, like she learned the whole language of Relares all by herself even though she knew Shirley could have read it for her and despite countless failures she's had so far. Basically it was Norma's optimism and determination that made her one of my favorite characters.
Will Raynard- The old man of the group and Harriet's father, Will's character focuses on his struggles to reconcile with Harriet as he tries to balance life being with her and Werites Beacon's sheriff. Will mainly has issues in trying to express his feelings for his daughter because most of the time he ends up pissing her off and also it can be attributed to Harriet being a bit unreasonable at times. Also the circumstances have also been against Will especially when it came to his wife and how her family was against him which led to him being exiled. Will suffered throughout the years because he couldn't bear to be separated from the one he loves and his daughter and that he hoped that one day they would live together as a family in the Legacy. Will is among my favorite characters because of the love he has shown for his family despite the pain he suffered and endured for a long time.
Moses Sandor- Ah Moses, he's a favorite because I for one am a sucker for a boy and his dog story. ^^;; Moses' story is mainly about how he and Giet became partners and how they have been together through thick and thin. The thing about his Character Quest is that in the quest Giet turned wild and attacks his fellow bandits, although Moses knew of this because all beasts will eventually go wild and that as a Beastmaster he has to deal with Giet by killing him, Moses struggles to bring himself to do it for obvious reasons. Moses is among fav because of the values he hold for his family and he's just a funny guy.
I would have included Jay, Chloe and Grune but I'm too lazy to type more so I think highly of them just as these 4 except for Shirley, I dont hate her character but she's far not among my fav either. ^^;; So yeah in summary the 7 casts of Tales of Legendia are my equally favorite Tales characters and JRPG as well. =p

My all-time favorite is Sheena from Tales of Symphonia. She just reminded me of me so well, which made it easier for me to connect with her. I've said this alot, but I'll explain in more detail since that's what this topic is for.
When I first met her in the game, she was the clumsy 'bad-guy'. After threatening Lloyd and the others while attempting to attack them, she ends up tripping and falling down a hole. That clumsyness just echoed of me through the whole fall down. I couldn't help but become intrigued by her character.
In the gnome's dwelling place, there was a cooking scene where you got to choose who to make the meal for that gnome. I chose Sheena (surprise surprise). She ended up adding some weird things (according to the characters) to the sauce or whatever it was she was making. At home I'm always told I combine odd things in my food and get made fun of for it.
She always put on a tough front and didn't take any guff from people (especially Zelos). She kept most of her problems to herself after her guardian beast died (I can't remember his name...) and tried to tough it out that way. Soon she opened up to the others, but it took some doing.
Yeah...I guess I could put more and more for her, but I don't want to go on a rambling rampage...I have others too, but I feel lazy right now and don't want to type all that stuff out...I'll edit this post later and add them, but for the record they are Ion and Tear.

I really wish I played Legendia so I can try and agree with any of those characters you posted, Sonic-y. XD
Sheena was pretty awesome, too. I was able to relate to her a lot, myself, but she never became my favourite character, but she was my favourite girl in the game. She had the most fire compared to the other three. (especially Presea, whoa)
I'm going to add another because I feel like it and after reading Dragon Brigade's post, I remembered another.
Zelos Wilder
Tales of Symphonia
Oh, Zelos~ The flamboyant playboy who's not ashamed to flaunt his good looks and win over the hearts of a couple ladies...or 50.
Probably one of the most misunderstood characters in the game when it comes to his obvious arrogance and flippant personality which almost makes him appear heartless. To make everything even more apalling, he's also Tethe'alla's Chosen. Just like Colette is Sylvarant's! A complete opposite to Colette's innocently sweet demeanor and self-sacrificing devotion. Can't forget his betraying the party to get what he wants, either. He abuses his position of Chosen to do what he wants, when he wants. So, why would I like a character that is that selfish?
Simple! He's not selfish, arrogant, or heartless. He's a very conflicted character who has the most heartbreaking story of them all. His first impression is a cover up - a mask, if you will - to hide his true feelings, intentions, and fears.
When he was a child, he was rather neglected by both of his parents and solely taken care of by Sebastian, the house butler. His parents were forced into marraige in order to bring about the Chosen of Mana, but both loved another. During the marriage, each had their own affairs with other people. His father ends up having another child with his half-elf mistress - Zelos' half-sister Seles. When his father dies, his mistress comes with revenge, with the intent on killing Zelos. However, his mother got in the way and ended up losing her own life. Not without a message to Zelos:
"You should've never had been born."
Ever since then, Zelos suffers from insecurity, self-doubt, and guilt. He blames himself for his mother's death and because of what race the woman who killed his mother was - also adding to Meltokio's teachings to children - he developed a deep prejudice for half-elves. He doubts his ability in being a Chosen and to be able to save the world. He believes if he were to have died, Seles would've been the Chosen. Possibly the best Chosen and Tethe'alla's ultimate savior. All of this added to his self-loathing; to counteract and hide his true feelings, he puts up a front - a mask- of a confident, superficial, and arrogant man.
He wins over the hearts of countless Meltokio women for his status, not who he really is. This also contributed to his graduating at the top of the class in the Imperial Research Academy; he used his ability to woo any woman into doing his assignments and tests for him. Using this "mask" of his and flaunting his title let him split up the people he met with those who only had a passing fancy in him for his looks and influence and those who actually was interested in Zelos. Just Zelos as himself.
When he meets up with Lloyd and the rest of the party, he gets what he desires. He finds friends who like him for who he is, though they did decide to use him at first. Despite his deception (and depending on who you meet up with in Flanoir), he ends up helping them in more ways than one. He infiltrates Cruxis' stronghold to acquire the Aionis Kratos instructed him to retrieve.
He also shows his sympathetic side more times than once, most notably when Sheena goes into depression over Corrine's death. He's the only one who acts normal, who tried to move on. He is, however, chastisized for his seemingly callous behaviour, but he then muses to himself how "If everyone walks on eggshells (tries being too considerate or shows too much remorse), Sheena will never be able to move on with her life". Meaning, Sheena will only fall deeper into depression if everyone else is depressed with her.
He's human, that's all there is to it. I adore Zelos for his human emotions. He's more than meets the eye; he decieves, tricks, flirts, and boasts to hide his true inner hurt and guilt from everyone around him. From his friends. He's certainly not proud of his actions, but he's does so to do what he feels he can do to make up for his 'uselessness'.
Once more, Zelos is human. He's not the flawless goody two-shoes hero nor is he the evil super villian; he does almost unforgivable things to do the greatest good he can do.
On a side note, I'm going by if you got Zelos' ending. Obviously as you don't learn of his past unless he's the person you talk to during Flanoir.
It's surprising that I did Zelos and not Kratos, I'm sure. :] I was (and still am) a huge Kratos fangirl. I beat Symphonia four times and beat it with Kratos ending twice. The first time with Colette and the last time with Zelos. It's just, after I got Zelos' ending, I was intrigued by his character. He was the most beautifully done of all your party members, but it was so hard to actually obtain the events to really learn about him.
I fall in love with human characters; it's not because I can relate to them, but because they are human. Because they have flaws and are not perfect. Their goals, actions, and reasoning are not coloured in black and white, but in all shades of grey.
I wrote'cha guys an essay this time in comparisson with Guy. 8D Poor Guy, as much as I love him, I got so afraid of writing a long huge post that I wrote the bare minimum. And I'm too lazy to fix it. I apologize if I got facts wrong, I haven't played Symphonia in two years and what I couldn't remember very well, I had to resort to wiki. Again, sorry!!! ^^;

If you do get the chance to play Legendia Ali, just dont expect too much of the gameplay. Although I from my experience of the other Legendia fans I know, we tend to agree that despite the gameplay issues we love the characters especially in their respective character quests....
except Shirley. ^^;;

Tht's actually what kept me away from Legendia in the first place. ^^; When I was asking a friend about the game, they said the gameplay wasn't that great and I got turned off. But when I am able to get some extra cash and time on my hands, I'll go and check it out! 8D

Without a doubt my favorite character from any Tales game has to be Arche. Sure, she's from the first Tales game that wasn't known to many people since it was never released outside of Japan (talking about the Snes version, the Gameboy Advance one is horrible) but she is the most memorable one I know.
Why do I like her character? Well, she's witty, funny and can create very awkward situations. If anyone has played the Snes version, you'll know what I'm talking about when I mention the time she got drunk on the boat ride. Her character isn't one of the weak, helpless girls like in most games, she's strong, speaks her mind and isn't afraid to make fun of her superiors. Plus she has pink hair, you have to love that. She was portrayed perfectly in the animation which reminded me of how much I liked her character.
