Arc System Works Announces Guilty Gear 2
But it's no longer a 2D fighting game!
By Yoshi Sato, 07/18/2007
Arc System Works has announced Guilty Gear 2 Overture for Xbox 360 according to the latest issue of Japanese publication Weekly Famitsu.
Unlike the previous installments which were 2D fighting games, the sequel will be a mix of real-time strategy and 3D fighting game. Players will select characters - such as Sol Badguy, Sin, among others - referred to as "Masters" in this game. You will also have units to move around and give commands on the field map in RTS-like fashion. When in contact with enemy units, the battle then becomes more synonymous to a 3D fighting game.
Guilty Gear 2 Overture is currently 80% complete, but no release date has yet been announced.

Uh... WTF SCREENS!?
I'm curious. Seeing as I'll once again have a 360 playable at any time here soon enough if they're really making like... Whatever the hell this is going to turn out to be... It could be interesting enough.

Sounds a lot like Chronicles of The Sword from Soul Calibur III.

HA! So THATS what that "Sin" Screenshot was, when the X360 was released. There was a wallpaper featuring his character, but I don't think I can find it anywhere anymore.
I'm almost positive it will be a (lame) spinoff, but...eh...
When Guilty Gear was first made, it was originally visioned as a 3D project. And Daisuke Ishwatari is involved in this one...so it'll be interesting to see. Its just whenever RTS elements are involved...things usually turn nasty. Hope a trailer comes out soon so we can see EXACTLY what the hell this madness is.

I think it'll be weird to see it in 3D. I have X2 and I love it.
So lets give the new one a try. I'm still waitin' on that 360 price drop. xD

Well that's an interesting image, but it's still hard to tell what the game is going to be like. I like Sol's artwork though. Especially the sword because I never was a fan of his squarish weird looking blade from before. His clothes look like they are Order attire though, so maybe it will reveal some more things about the original story.

RTS GG Dynasty Warriors?
Screens are confusing... Can't wait for the trailer to come out. Those scans really don't tell us a lot, but thanks for posting them Tony. I'm really interested in this though because it could potentially be fairly exciting and different.

I'll just hope that there'll be a normal versus mode in there somewhere. I've always wondered how a 3D GGXX game could be and I've no doubt that it's a potentially insane concept that could be more fun that any fighter in history. But the whole RTS thing has me kinda scared... So I'm gonna hope it doesn't play a large role in the game unless it's done REALLY well. But I'll be getting this game either way.

I'm also curious to see what happens with this, but it doesn't seem like it will go over all that well. Usually changing a game so massively like this is terrible, but can't say anything yet. It does look like a mix of a few different game genres which is cool, but not sure if these particular genres will work that well together.

This should be interesting to see how it turns out. I'm a big fan of GG for its highly unorthodox style, I dunno if I can handle this unorthodox style.

NECRO UPDATE : Aksys Games is bringing Guilty Gear 2 : Overture to America in Q3. Haven't seen an official date anywhere, but its good news that its touching our shores.
Of course, this game is quite controversial because...well, its the TRUE sequel to the original Guilty Gear on Playstation 1 (and the arcades, of course.) I remember it being mentioned that Mr. Ishwatari had wanted the game to be a 3D fighter originally...this is something entirely different.
SPOILERS ALERT
This game pretty much makes the entire GGX storyline both null and void...but its also a much more in depth look into the GG universe.
)
There are a ton of videos of the game on youtube already if you guys are curious. I know I'll be getting it when it comes out.

I downloaded the demo last year (it's on Japanese Live). I do believe that the demo was in English, but I don't exactly remember (might have been in Japanese). It plays like a Dynasty Warriors with GG characters and story. I'm not a big fan of DW so I wasn't too big a fan of the demo (haven't played much GG either). If you do like DW and GG, you will probably like this game.
