PlayStation owners will definitely want to hear about this little tidbit of news we found over at the official PlayStation blog. Michael Shorrock, director of third-party relations at Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), noted that they would be making a new franchise meant specifically for the PlayStation 3. More importantly, this franchise is said to be "all new," and will not be LA Noire.

"As part of our longstanding relationship with Rockstar," Sharrock writes, "and the incredible success for both companies with the cultural icon that is Grand Theft Auto, we’ve agreed to the PlayStation exclusive rights of the next great franchise from the Rockstar studios." They've yet to note what this new deal with Rockstar is all about, but we're hoping more details about the deal and the new game will be revealed in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, it's a wonderful moment for speculation. What do you think about this new deal, and what do you think will this new game be about?

I guess this might be what Sony talked about before when they mentioned some deal with Rockstar they couldn't talk about. A new franchise sounds good. I guess that's their answer to the DLC that Xbox is getting.

Anyway if this game follows in the footsteps of GTA and Bully, I'd like it to have Bully's town system instead of GTA's. It felt more personal that way. 200 or so specific characters that inhabited the town (along with some generic ones) instead of only generic characters such as in GTA. I liked walking arround town or school and recognising the people I met.

Rockstar really has yet to prove themselves to me. Sure, they can ride the GTA wave and I suppose you could say it's revolutionized a style of gaming, but outside of that I feel that their titles are mediocre. Also I think they do poor game coding... As in physics, textures, bitmapping, AI, etc. I'd really like to see them step it up for this next generation of consoles, so we'll see if they did that with GTA 4 when that comes out and whatever this title is.

Honestly I really don't care all that much for GTA... Don't own any of them on my PS2, even though they're dirt cheap. I'm just picking up the new one for the hell of it, and I'm not stuck in the urban jungle this time.

Anyway... I guess we'll see what develops. I don't hold too high of hopes though.

As long it is not a Rockstar presents Table Tennis, but in reality just a whole new franchise, I say bring it on.
As TED said, Rockstar is not that great imo, they have their GTA franchise, but apart from that, nothing much.
We´ll see what Rockstar brings.

Could be good. I wonder what genre Rockstar will be doing.

If you remember correctly, a couple years ago Rockstar released some trailers for an upcoming rumored PS3 Exclusive called L.A. Noire. They pretty much fell off the map after that. We haven’t heard anything about this game since then. Well Team Bondi has just stated that they are in the “Final Production Phase” of the game. Full quote and trailers follow.

We’re looking to expand our Animation Team to cope with the final production phase of L.A. Noire. This includes the in-game cut-scenes, story cut-scenes, reviewing and cleaning up the animations for the in-game mechanics and supervising capture for the new facial animation technology which has been developed in conjunction with this project.

Heh, nice that you managed to find/remember this old topic. I forgot about this announcement. Good to see that it didn't fall off the face of the earth. And I guess I'd rather see a 2 seconds clip than nothing. lol

Grand Theft Auto in black and white? I certainly hope not... maybe this will be something really interesting but this news seems to contradict what Jack Tretton said at E3...

Not really sure what to make of it... there are too many contradictions and rumours to really get excited about this project and that you tube trailer shows absolutely NOTHING... It's likely Tretton didn't say anything so as not to soften the impact, but I remain unconvinced.

i dont think this is so much of a grand theft auto. I believe in the game you are investigating a murder or something of the sort.

Exactly smile.gif It wouldn't hold much of a noire atmosphere if it was just another GTA style game. I say the game looks cool and original it's nice to see developer working on something new I'm getting bored of sequels that haven't really moved on or improved on their predecessors. GTAIV can have it's exclusive content if this turns out to be as good as it looks.

Coming soon to an Xbox 360 near you, right?

That and Valkyria Chronicles, White Knight Story, Tekken 6, FF Versus XIII, Disgaea 3, MGS 4 and Gran Turismo 5.
They're all coming in a bundle package.

I didn't see that video that Flame posted earlier though. *checks now*
Nothing to show there either I guess. But I agree with Coudy that it probably won't be like GTA, or you'd think they most likely would have something to show by now?

Holyshit, what's the MSRP for that? Like $300 w/o a console!?

For X360 owners? Free of charge, including a poster of this.
