Jeane: the sexy Runemistress, ok so she don't get much story, but what you don't get is the most interesting, like in Suikoden 3, the detective Kid only get vague to none info about her at all!

Lilly Pendragon: one of the most colorful and spunky characters in all Suikoden (if you ask me!) and i liked to see how she developed from S2 to S3

Geddoe: calm and wise, but still human, he is as any man would want to be! ok a little more social though!

Jacques from Suikoden 3, he had an appeal to me for some reason, probably because of similar personality traits.
Mizuki from Suikoden 4. I like ninjas, I like girls, and she's better than the other ninjas.
Suikoden V, Bernadette, so important, yet not so important..

It would be a decision between Sierra, Tir or Pesmerga. Unfortunatly I cannot make that one =P.

"Party member," hm? Well, I guess I'll just take that as my favorite character to use in battle. (Taking it otherwise would only make things more difficult than they already are, anyway.)

I can't really just pick one for every reason possible (other than most of the main characters, since they're usually pretty powerful overall). Many of the characters have their own individual purposes, and some serve those purposes a bit better than others, while some even multi-task well.

Physical
Slow Powerhouse(s): Tie between Pesmerga (I/II), Hallec (III), and Zegai (V).
Powerful + Speed: Tie between Georg (V) and Cathari (V).
Tank(s): Tie between Fred Maximillian and Mua, both from III. Their Shield Defense was so great, and I believe both had great Armor Protect skills as well. Fred was slightly better with a shield, but Mua could equip heavy armor. In the first two games, Pesmerga.
Long-Range: Stallion/Tengaar in the first, Stallion/Tengaar in II, Yuiri in III, and Cathari in V.
Special Setup: Killey/Sheena in II. Double-Strike'd Kika in IV follows.

Magic
Fire: Crowley in the first, Zamza/Mazus in II, Hugo (as Flame Champ) in III
Water: Doesn't matter much, to me. Sasarai (III), I guess. Otherwise, Tir/Riou/Lazlo/Freyjadour.
Lightning: Flik in the first, Geddoe (non-Flame Champ) in III, Jeane (IV)
Earth: Sasarai (III), otherwise Luc in II
Wind: Luc, period.
Magic Power: Well, magic's effect varies throughout the series a bit. I would say Zerase, from V, though for their respective games, Luc and Crowley both rocked for the first, and Luc continued to rock into Mordor in II. Geddoe was probably my favorite caster in III, and Ted was basically the best in IV.

Hybrid
Strength/Magic: Flik in the first, Flik/Zamza in II, Geddoe in III, Rita/Ameria in IV

Sorry. I know that's way more than this topic asks for, but as I said, most of these characters are just so great for these specific reasons, while they're lacking in other areas, so I can't pick just one (or a small few) to praise for overall usefulness.

Oulan. whenever i play Suikoden II, i always get her asap and she's a permanent addition to my team- except for the final battle.

I would have to say my favorite characters would be Juan and Jacques.

Juan because I wish I was as calm and laid back as he is.

Jacques because I love his attitude. He is a perfect example of the strong and silent type.

I like Wakaba and Killey, because they know how to damage a lot. In suikoden 2 my Killey critical is 1000 each

No Rune? Errr.... with a statement like that, I kinda think you missed the whole point of the game, because there definetly is a rune in the game and it is the most important thing in the story.
No Story? There is a story, though it isn't as much evolved as for example Suikoden II is.
No avatars? I am not following this. How has this game no avatars?

And people say they can never possibly be married. In anycase. . . Pesmerga for just physical strength. For Magic, can't decide mainly because there were a lot of characters who could fill in that role, but I always saved my spells considering they were limited. All around though I loved. . .

I wasn't sure about the names, hence I said it =).

I do have to say that the story wasn't as bad as you make it sound. It didn't live up to the standards of, say Suikoden I and II, but it wasn't the worst game ever. The story was decent, it just missed the spark that other RPGs do have. Not much character development, little places to explore and overall not much going on.

The rune of punishment is one of the better runes imo, considering it is far more active than say Soul Eater or Rune of the Beginning.
It chose its own master and own destiny and was difficult to master, because every time it was used, it took some of your life.

The art is one of my favourites actually. Where Suikoden I used a lot of water paintish art, Suikoden II and III used a whole different style, which was more anime. Suikoden IV just used a refined form of that and actually made whole pictures, instead of just faces, something they reversed again in Suikoden V .

This is hard I'll first say my list for all the Suikodens I've played:
Suikoden 1: Tir he's so cool a really really good hero.
Suikoden 2: Shu
Suikoden 3: Jacques I gotta agree, Geddoe's group is real cool but Jacques is a G.
Suikoden 5: Georg Prime

Overall: Flik and Viktor tie. I'm serious I'll never remember a pair of characters in Suikoden better than those two, heck they were the reason why my friend and I figured out he was playing Suikoden 1 and I was playing Suikoden 2 and they were closely related. Truthfully I'd put them in some of my top RPG characters of all time.... hmm I should make them.

hahahahaa!!!!!! everyone hates suikoden 4!!!!! well my fav characters are all from 4 seeing as it was the only one ive ever played. jeane, viki, troy, ameria, and.... um....... kika.(dont ask)

"Don't ask?" Nothing really out of the ordinary there, really, haha. Jeane and Viki are both recurring characters throughout the series, and both are usually like by fans to some extent or other. Kika tends to be a favorite from IV, especially since she's one of the only characters in the game with any real personality and history. (Not to mention just being a badass in battle.) Troy seems to show up often as a liked character from IV... I'd be inclined to agree that he is pretty interesting. Wish he had a more significant role in the game. Anyway, he's not a party member, so I don't think he counts here. ^^; Ameria seems to show up now and then as a liked character from IV. I know I certainly like her. She's a pretty great character in battle, with a good balance of strength, magic, speed... really, and all-around good character, as far as stats go. She doesn't have much personality/history to her, but she's got enough for me to be interested. Nifty character design, as well.

Edit: I just realized I never really posted party members from Tactics...
Again, I really can't pick a single favorite. My favorites were pretty similar to IV, though: Lazlo, Kika, and Ameria. Lazlo was just plain deadly with his rune, and even without it, he had great stats. Kika was a monster, especially thanks to the Falcon Rune, and with the aid of a Cyclone Sword Rune, she was even deadlier. Ameria was, just like in IV, an all-around good character. Could mount, also, making her even more useful. (Unfortunately, she wasn't able to be used as a mage in Tactics, though. A Cyclone Sword Rune definitely made up for that fact, though.) Jeane was obviously a wicked mage, as well, so throw her in there.
