The Evil Dead
While there won't be any major changes any time soon... Bungie has branched off from Microsoft. While Halo remains strict property... We pretty much know that trilogy is done for. Bungie still retains the rights to Marathon, which is well known now to continue off the Halo series ( If you remember like 95 and Macintosh's ) what I'm guessing, is that even though Microsoft gets first nab at Bungie titles still, is that we may see more titles and something besides friggin' Halo from Bungie.

I'm not that excited, but I'm intrigued about being able to play a title on my PC instead of having to wait 3 years... Or maybe seeing Marathon released multi-console in the future? A new version of course.

Interesting split, but it's not a huge dent.

It's official: Bungie branches off from Microsoft

Just goes to show you, never say never.

Bungie has just announced that they've "reached an unprecedented and exciting agreement" that they'll "branch off" from the Microsoft Game Studios mothership and become Bungie, LLC, an independent company, starting ... today (well, technically October 1, but effective immediately)! Worried about Halo going to another, less competent developer? No need, the studio will retain a long-term publishing agreement with Microsoft Game Studios for Halo titles. Other titles? All they're saying is that they "will continue to develop with [their] primary focus on Microsoft's platforms." With Microsoft holding a minority equity interest in the company, that's not surprising.

Unsurprisingly, Microsoft is also retaining ownership of the Halo property (MGS chief Shane Kim calls it "our Halo entertainment property") as well as reserving first crack at publishing any Bungie-developed IP. We're left wondering if Marathon counts as a Halo property or a Bungie property ...

What are the immediate repercussions of this division? According to Bungie, "Practically speaking, nothing has changed and you guys won't see much, if any difference, for a while ...." We hope it means that somehow they'll be able to bring the same level of skill to a project besides Halo.

[Update: GameDaily spoke with Bungie's Frank O'Connor about the "evolution" which, he says, has been in the planning stages for "about a year." He confirms they're not through with Halo yet; they're still working on the Peter Jackson project and DLC for Halo 3. As for Marathon, despite its close ties to the Halo universe, Bungie retains the rights to that property, while MS owns Halo and Take-Two owns Myth and Oni.]

Hope this means Halo 3 for PC comes out early this time. I prefer a mouse over a controller.
The Evil Dead
Assumptions are that it's going to take about 3 years to hit PC like Halo 1 and 2. Posted on Bungie's site.

That sucks. Not that I care much but I know other people do, and I might get it for fun.

Yeah, Microsoft was not gonna allow its main property to slip from their hands. Is just that Bungie will be able to produce games for other people but Halo stays with Microsoft, maybe they´ll make something better than Halo and become their own competitor.

I don't see this making any noticeable changes anytime soon. MS will probably still pay top dollar for anything big they make, but I guess it might be interesting to see some titles for other consoles. Makes me wonder if they'd do well with other game genres, or if shooters is all they're good for. We'll see I guess.

they have a Halo RTS in progress atm. I played the demo at my friends house.
I don't know anything about RTS's but it looked pretty solid

MS have first dibs on anything Bungie create. If Bungie make something and MS want it, they get it.

There'll be no noticable difference to the consumer. Bungie just want thier independance.

It's not surprising they left MS (I'm sure things got a little tense in the rush to push Halo 3 out before xmas).

The suprise was that Bungie sold to MS in the first place. I think this setup will prove beneficial to everyone.

I doubt it'll be indefinitely though. It may start out as an MS release but I don't think they'll have a total stranglehold on everything Bungie puts out indefintely.

If they believe it to be the next Halo, then I'd have to imagine them paying any price Bungie asks for exclusive rights.
The Evil Dead
They have the rights to anything Halo as stated in the article.

Everything else is free reign. MS gets first dibs, but that doesn't stop it from being multi-console at some point like many other series'.

crap more PC stuff. I really don't like PC games besides StarCraft, I'm not a computer game player, just doesnt appeal to me.

at least maybe now they wont screw up halo 3 for the pc. Jesus halo 2 was the biggest ground hitting game ive seen for the pc. The first wall was that idiotic company trying to promote vista and making the game vista only. Heh way to screw sales their bill.

NEXT, was those dumb asses actually trying to get more cash from it by mixing it with that damn xbox live. Not only does this screw with everything and make it complicated as all hell, it screws with even trying to put a server up in the game. God knows many people in halo have tried and failed and get told by TS that they don't SUPPORT dedicated servers.

And finally with all that dx10 hype about it and it doesn't even go any better but an inch for the mile that those damn cards costed originally. Thank god I didn't invest in a damn thing to do with that game. Dead online community, screwed up xbox live whatever it is, and about god know how many hundreds of dollars worth of wasted cash in upgrades.

Once you've made halo pc/ce right the only way to screw it up is the greed of microsoft
