The Evil Dead
Thankfully after a bit of complaining ( Make that a lot of complaining ) Bungie has updated a few things in Matchmaking... Most importantly expanding to 16 player Big Team Battle games, and breathe a huge sigh of relief as Shotty Sniper appearances in all gametypes has been reduced.

There is a god.

Halo 3: Matchmaking Playlist Update 1

Halo 3's Matchmaking Playlists, just like Halo 2's, are dynamic and ever-changing entities. Even now in the perilous Bungie towers, we're looking at new hoppers, gametypes and modes to test for future iterations and changes of these playlists. Multiplayer Lead Tyson Green and test wunderkind David Gasca sent the following list of changes to us -- and these changes are live now:

  • Big Team Battle matches are now 16-player affairs.
  • In the Team Slayer playlist, the appearance of Shotty Snipers has been greatly reduced.
  • Now, when players veto Shotty Snipers, the game that results from the veto will not be Shotty Snipers.
  • In one-sided VIP matches, the attacking team will now see a waypoint for the VIP they are hunting.
  • In Lone Wolves, Slayer gametypes will appear more frequently.

They already planned on making big team battle 16 people. they said they just had to let people play it first, to see who has a good host, and who can handle that many people on their host etc..

so it wasn't really complaining that got that tongue.gif

but yea, I like the update

Yeah. It'll be nice if they DON'T give it to the douchebags with 2mbps Comcast internet.

Or for people who don't feel like depending on a team to win a game. In other words, me. Team play is great and all, but I do need my free-for-all time to kick ass without anyone holding me back, or bitching at me if I didn't play the way they wanted. Besides... I kinda had my fill of team gameplay in Gears of War, so Lone Wolves is a nice break from team bull####. Sadly though, I still play a lot more team games anyway since there's always someone bugging me to join their party.

And the matchmaking update sounds good. I'll test it later to see if it is as they say. I am a bit disappointed, though... I really wanted Lone Wolves to be strictly slayer with this update. Let them make a Lone Objective for all the fucktards who veto Slayer to play NoobTacular oddball and crazy king. Or just save the freakin' objective games for social since they're a joke anyway. Oddball and crazy king should definitely be replaced with different slayer game variants, like a ffa shotty snipers or some of the other slayer variants you see in social games. I'd take any kind of slayer variant rather than running around with a skull, or getting horrible spawn luck in crazy king.

I dunno... I've only had a few real bad cases of lag, but it's usually pretty good as far as I can tell. Better than H2 for sure.
The Evil Dead
I guess. Until you get standby'd. I've had several games where all but two people drop to red bars, and all of the sudden after a certain amount of time the game is over and you've magically been killed enough times to end the game. It's silly.

They need to update the snipers as well. I'm tired of not getting a headshot because I'm not double zoomed at great distances. There's so many times where you have your reticle on someones head and the bullet just passes right through. FIX THE NETCODE BUNGIE. Updates are good.

I've only had a couple of those games out of the 500 or so that I've played, and even then it didn't work too well for the players doing it.

But overall, I think they've taken some new measures to prevent standbying. It's VERY common that I hear someone threaten to standby (only 2 out-loud actual "threats", but yeah), and soon after, that player drops from the game and there's a message saying "Selecting new host" or whatever. So it would seem that most players attempting standby's are now dropped from the match. I could be wrong, but I'm just going off what I've seen. Either way it's definitely pretty rare for me. Halo 2 had standbyers 1 out of every few matches sometimes, so it's definitely been improved. But I guess something a little more absolute would be nice. Like maybe a temporary flag on a player's profile if the servers detect abnormal connection activity, which would prevent them from being selected as host for a set period of time? I dunno, but hopefully they think of something.

Haha... yeah, my friend has a video on his file share with proof that the headshot code is bull####. There was a guy just standing there in a hallway in High Ground, not moving in the slightest. My friend scopes in and fires a shot right through his eyeball. From the replay, at any camera view, you see the shot go right through his eye socket. Blood squirts on the wall from his head, and he kinda just looks around and walks away, seemingly completely unharmed. There was 0 game lag going on too, which makes it even more retarded. They got a lot more strict with headshots, which I guess was to eliminate headsweeping, but they obviously over-did it to a ridiculous point. Hopefully we see some updates soon with some decent changes.

They haven't changed any steps at all to prevent bridging except include a dynamic port for hosting.

There's not much more they can do. There are plenty of bridged games, and as the game ages expect to see more exploits.

Also they do need to update the netcode. Sniper shots don't count far too often, even to their head.

I need to add you JD but I always forget your tag.

Anyway... What are things you'd all like to see in future updates? I don't mean major changes like new levels... But how about balancing? I'm tired of seeing the mauler be just about as effective as a regular shotgun. Hell, I've outshot and beatdown my share of people who had a regular shotty more times than I can count.

Also the AR seems far too erratic, and my guess is very host dependent. I can count the numerous times I've out AR'd someone, yet their beatdown counts before mine... Or they use far less bullets and do more damage. :: Shakes a fist :: If you're going to imply #### game hosting methods like user host then at least buff up the netcode to work in the situation. I still demand servers.
Grahf
I would like them to very slightly tone down the power of a beat down, but not that much, just enough so that it requires a little more, no pun intended, punch to actually kill your enemies, but in the end that probably wouldn't have that big of an impact on the gameplay if the just toned it down as slightly as I'm thinking.

I haven't really experienced some of the stuff like standbying yet, and I'm hoping it stays that way, even though I'll eventually find games like that.

You probably have but haven't realized it yet. There are extreme situations as I've stated where everyone is red bars but two people... The host and the one bridging... And others where the connection suddenly drops to red ( Generally in situations where someone is trying to stay alive )

It happens much more than you think. As for the beatdowns I think the strength of it is fine... I still mess up with it all the time though because I'm used to the huge lunge it used to have in Halo 2.
