Lol, we all know the famous talking animals of Suikoden.

like, WHY DOES MUKUMUKU not be able to talk while BEAVERS from SUIKODEN V CAN!?!? THAATS UNFAIR 8|
lmfao i just noticed this a few days ago. I think it's really weird, although my favorite characters from suikoden 3 is the powerful lizard dudes, and my duck sergeant.

Well you guys tell me whats ur favorite species in suikoden.
cuz they make the game really weird... like DWARVES. But though i really like some of them.
like some of them are my favorite characters .

Well, the thing is (as far as I know), is that the squirrels in Suikoden II are simply wild beasts and never had to communicate with people, because they do not live with people.
They are also only with 5, as far as we know and there is no reason for them to actually have a human tongue.

The beavers on the other hand were asked to help them build a dam and were involved with humans for quite a few times, so learning human tongue would make sense.
I am not sure on how they were able to speak, maybe something with that old turtle, considering I thought he had some connection to the beavers.
Hugo
Perhaps it's simply because they are from different regions?
LagunaWannabe
I don't necessarily mind talking animals, the only one I really really REALLY hated, was Chiepoo from Suik4. That species just made me REALLY angry. Maybe it was his character in general, but they all really upset me

Does not explain much though. Such as why Beavers talk human and why Squirrels don't. <-- That line sounds like it comes from someone from a clinic, lol. =P

Chiepoo is awesome. Not only does he has a funny voice, he is a talking cat and a merchant, as well as a bit clumsy. I really liked Chiepoo =D.

All the reasons why I hated him lol. Funny voice?? That doesnt make me like a character lol, it wasnt like he SAID anything funny, it was just high pitched whiny baby voice. And he's a talking cat that wears human clothes and is an idiot. It's not like Red XIII who's a talking cougar looking thing, it's a friggin 6 foot kitty cat. And he was clumsy and flat, just all out annoying lol

Elves are my favorite species besides human in Suikoden. We haven't really seen all that much of them since Suikoden 1, except a few stray elves here and there. I liked their villages in Suikoden 1 and what we briefly got to see in Suikoden 4.

ummmmmm....

I never really thought of Elves as "animals"...... lol. I guess they're technically not "Hume/Human"... but that just seemed kinda funny how it stuck out of the general idea of the topic lmao

Who cares about Red XIII? Why bring up Final Fantasy VII characters in a Suikoden topic? BLASPHEMY! Go wash your mouth with soap, yong man.
Chiepoo is an idiot, but no the idiot as in a fool, an idiot as in, being clumsy. The cute idiot, the one that bangs his head on the doorknob after picking up his keys.
Well, I am glad he wears human clothes, don't wanna see him walking around naked. Remember, he is not a normal cat, it is a certain species, such as the Kobolds were dogs in Suikoden I and II. I think they're called Nay-Kobolds or so?
Annoying? Far from it, he was one of the few characters that showed some importance to the story, he was with you when you had to escape and he was looking out for you as well, though he wasn't a fighter and couldn't do much.
Chiepoo was one of the better characters in the game.

I agree with Hiku that we haven't seen the elves that much. Suikoden V showed the possibility, but we weren't allowed to really go into their villages, such as happened in Suikoden I.
Though Elves aren't animals, so yeah.... =P
Athrun
Well he asked for favorite species while mentioning dwarves, so I figured Elves were my favorites. Although I don't know if he is asking for favorite 'animal' species, in which case I think the dwarves would probably get offended. =p
KC_MCDOHL
Yea, I for one certainly think they've took the whole talking animal thing in Suikoden a bit too far. I really liked Kobolds, and elves and dwarves where popular fantasy anyway. It was the cats that really ruined it for me, and then they introduced beavers ...that just killed it. To me, it seemed like a mockery to the previous talking animal races. It's the whole japanese obsession with cute things that us westerners may never fully understand lol

Yet you bring Suikoden characters into the FF forums all the time.

Amen Pes. I just washed my mouth out. hahahahah, finally something we agree on

Yep, cute clumsy idiot he is, but I can't say I necessarily put him in the "good character" pool quite yet. And yeah I'm glad he wears clothes too, it's just that it looked kinda ridiculous lol.

But another point u mention, which is correct, is that he showed importance to the story, and he does try to help, so it DOES make him one of the better (or more accurately, developed), characters in the game.... but seriously? That's like saying rotten apples are the best rotten fruit. lol. They're all pretty rotten.
Chalryn
Chiepoo did have a pretty awesome voice. I was glad to see it was the same/similar in Tactics. Champo was nifty, too.
The whole "Nay-Kobold" thing always kinda bugged me, though. I'm not sure if it was a mistranslation or if they were simply named that because of the island they live on, but last I checked, the cat version of a kobold was called a "nekobold." *shrug* Ah well. Maybe I'm just picky.

I have to say I love the kobolds, but probably only because of Ridley. ^^;

Or unconventional? I personally liked the design although not really the character. It was nice to something a little different when it comes to species. Red XIII had a good design, but there was an importance placed on the fact that he was a beast. Cheipoo was just another character who just happened to be a cat. It was quite refreshing.

I liked the beavers in Suikoden V and I think they fit well into the storyline. I think the dwarves look more out of place in the storyline. I honestly don't think they worked half as well. Maybe it's because we already have a vague idea of what a dwarf is, while it was fun to discover the quirks of a new race and their personality.
Hoodman
Suikoden 1 had a lot of traditional species like elves & dwarves. Kobolds have been a solid group throughout the Suikodens, some are better than others, like Ridley of Suiko2
Suikoden 2, introduced those awesome wingly species(one of the best species, we need to see more of them)
Suikoden 3, the sweet lizard clan, high attackers horrible defense(weird if you ask me)
Suikoden 4 I didnt play so Suikoden 5 I thought the beavers were pretty cool, anybody have fun w/ them in the naval battles? I kno I did.
Voyou San
i always enjoyed the lizards in III, they were pretty cool, even though i never used any of them in my party ever.

Well. . . Mukumuku was well. . . a retard. There I said it. My favorite race?. . . Don't have any, most of the characters who were from another race were either to stereotypical or too bland.
Pesmerga
How dare you? Do not speak of blasphemy here! =O
