PlayStation 2 RPG Persona 3 is getting its own TV anime spinoff. The show, called Persona -trinity soul-, takes place ten years after the game in a city where the dead have risen with their skins turned inside out. Yummy! The cartoon character designs are being created by the game's character designer, so expect the to hopefully have that same Persona 3 look. Show starts this January in Japan.

Verner brought this to my attention, so I thought I'd post it here. A Persona 3 anime would be pretty awesome. Though I liked most of the characters a lot, so I am hoping many of them are in this anime as well, even though it takes place 10 years later. Especially Mitsuru and Aigis. They have to be in it. =)
LagunaWannabe
Yeahh it doesn't sound much like a direct sequel more as just some spinoff. I'll watch it for sure because I'm sure it'll have the same feel and build up the characters just as well hoepfully. I'd love to know more though, when its being released, etc
Username
are you sure it just won't end up with something like Xenosaga?
The Evil Dead
So do we get kids who look like the guy from My Chemical Romance shooting themselves in the head to summon the Persona?

If so I'm sold.
Dragon Brigade
I can't play the game, so I'd jump on the opportunity to watch the anime of it. It'd probably spoil a bit of what happened in P3 since it's ten years later, but since I won't be able to play the game for another three years anyway, I don't much care. I'll be looking forward to this anime =)

We can hope.

I haven't played it through yet, but if it keep it up, I will surely like to see an anime based on it!

Actually the game is only rated Mature 17+. You only have two years actually. happy.gif

I would love to see Mitsuru and Aegis in it. I just hope that this will get an American release.

Is it really? Well, two years until I’ll be able to play the game, if things go well for me =) I’m still not sure I’ll be able to play it before I go to college since my parents are a tad stingy about what they let me play, haha...I have loads of games that I haven’t played just because I know already they’d be deemed inappropriate. Such is life, I’m afraid, but if it’s only two years I’m sure my sister would sanction taking me under her wing for a night or two so I can spend all day playing P3, haha...=)

Some more info:

QUOTE (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2007-11-07/persona-3-game-adapted-as-television-anime)
Aniplex's A-1 Pictures is adapting the Persona 3 PlayStation 2 role-playing game as a television anime series under the name Persona -trinity soul- for a January 2008 premiere. The anime is set a decade after the game, and will center around three brothers in a future city where the dead have risen with their skins turned inside out. The Persona games themselves are spinoffs from the long-running Shin Megami Tensei series.

Jun Matsumoto, an episode director on Blood+ and an animator on Digimon, is set to direct. Shigenori Soejima, the Persona games' character designer for the game developer Atlus, is creating the original character designs for Yuriko Ishii (Ouran High School Host Club, The Prince of Tennis key animator) to adapt for anime. Yasuyuki Muto (Le Chevalier D'Eon) is leading a team of writers including Shinsuke Onishi (Darker than BLACK, The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye) and Shogo Yasukawa. Nobuhiko Genma (Trouble Chocolate's contributing designer) is designing the Persona, the franchise's signature supernatural entities within humans. Taku Iwasaki (Lunar Silver Star Story Lunatic Festa Vol. 3 game, Read or Die anime) is composing the music.

The Persona 3 game has already been adapted into three novel volumes (two of which were illustrated by Soejima) and a manga in MediaWorks' Dengeki Maoh magazine by Shuji Sogabe (Tow Ubukata's Eulenspiegel manga).

Also, the official site is up.

http://www.persona-ts.net/

From what I could get out of the horrible babelfish translation:

it looks like there's no more Apathy Syndrome, but instead, Reverse syndrome. Looks like people turn inside out or something...

The 3 main characters are brothers, with the last name of Shingo (thus the name Trinity Soul).

That's all I've managed to find so far.

Edit:
Haha, totally forgot Ken's last name was Amada. I still think the main character looks like a grown up version of him though. >.>
Flame
In theory it should be really good... I just hope they make it a little dark. I haven't played much of persona 3 (I'm still only at the first exams) but it doesn't seem a particularly dark game. I hunted out the Persona 2 Anime Trailer (I've never played P2)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IX7vP6JARk

Even though I've heard it's not a particularly great game, this trailer makes me want to play it just for the story. It isn't the best anime trailer, but moments such as the school girl are just spot on. THAT is the kind of thing I'd like to see more of.

I can imagine some characters popping up in the Persona Anime, after all they'd only be in their mid-late twenties. I just hope if they DO show the main character, they don't give him much/any dialogue.
Alazuli
The middle boy in the character scan does look a lot like Ken. I was really diggin' the idea of him becoming main, but three new guys isn't too bad. I didn't think the one on the left was a chick, though. Hahahah.

I'm totally wanting to check this out, but I hope I'm in an anime mood when it does come out. 8] *only been reading manga, lately)
Nokte
You know, considering the poor handling of the Devil Mary Cry anime (even if it's by two different studios all together) I just can't help but be pessimistic about this. =\
Xerno
Oh, how could I miss this news? Probably because it's in the Anime Forum, which I never check. But either way, I'm not gonna check every bit of info already posted here. Just the thought of a Persona 3 anime already makes me happy. If this turns out to be decent enough, this might become one of those rare animes which I've bothered to watch.
Verner
More info. Don't know if anyone else has seen this yet, but here we go. =D
QUOTE (http://www.digitaldevildb.com/)
A few days ago we featured some basic news on Persona -trinity soul-, clumsily translated from the official site. We detailed some basic information on the Kanzato (also apparently translated as Shingou) brothers that star in the series, but thanks to some wonderful help from Cheebs, we also have a better translation of the remaining plot information.

It apparently opens up with a bizarre scandal that strikes Ayanagi City. The crew of a submarine suddenly disappears and for the first time in 10 years people found themselves again concerned over the Apathy Syndrome. Around this same time, dead students with their corpses cruelly turned inside-out began to appear. Ryou’s police force is secretly following these events. His two younger brothers also get involved, resulting in Shin’s summoning of a Persona. The description ends with the ever-mysterious “The gears controlling the fate of these brothers have now begun to turn…”.

Since then even more information has been added, including a listing of the voice actors for the main characters:

Shin Kanzato (the middle brother and Persona user) will be voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto. He has previously been cast in anime such as Sola and Ghost Hunt.
Jun Kanzato (the youngest brother) will be voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro. She has done voice over work for both anime and games, including the roles of Elizabeth and Chidori in the Japanese version of Persona 3. Interestingly, she has also done English voice over work for anime released in the West, such as Di Gi Charat: The Movie.
Ryou Kanzato (the eldest brother and police officer) will be voiced by Takehito Koyasu. An extremely prolific Japanese seiyū (voice actor), Koyasu has lent his voice to anime including One Piece, Neon Genesis Evangelion and others far too numerous to list. Of particular interest to Megaten fans is the fact that he voiced Tatsuya in the Japanese Persona 2 titles.
Megumi Tino will be voiced by Kana Asumi, a female singer and seiyū who has appeared in anime such as Bokurano.
Kanou Marimoto will be voiced by Mai Nakahara, a female seiyū who has done work for both anime and games including .hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet.
At this point it is still unclear who the final two characters are in terms of the story. It’s likely the site will be updated with this information before the premiere of the series, however.

Again, big thanks to Cheebs for help translating a good deal of this properly.
Xerno
Nice info, I hadn't seen it yet. Inside-out student corpses...? Nasty! =x I wonder what that's going to look like in the anime...

Still, it sounds decent so far. Here's hoping! ^^''
Athrun
Also "10 years later"? Wonder if it's something related to when they fought Nyx in Persona 3.
Athrun
Dunno if I'll be particularly interested in the anime. The trailer seemed a bit dull for some reason, but who knows. I'll give it a shot though, since it's Persona.
Xerno
It's true that not much happens in the trailer, but... the art! It's so beautiful. <3 Of course, I've only seen two other animes to compare with, but still; I like the look of the anime very much (bishies included, I already noticed some xP ).
Athrun
Well the first Episode is out. I skimmed throughy it since it wasn't subbed. It seems a bit more graphical in some departments than I expected after playing Persona 3. And the Persona's fighting looked almost like a match between Gundams. Still not sure if I'll like it, but I'll see how it is after a few episodes I guess.

And Igor was in the first episode.
Xerno
Oh, too bad it isn't subbed yet. But I see Igor still has the nose of a swordfish, at least they already got that right. =p
Rubedo
Now the question again lies in this like the plot hole in Persona 3: Does it occur in the rebuild Tsumi world or in the Batsu world.
LagunaWannabe
What do you mean Persona 3 plothole???

btw all these episodes so far are subbed out on YouTube, definitely interesting
Nash
Tsumi? Batsu? What are those? ohmy.gif

Sounds like SMT3 stuffs.
SonicX_Zero
Tsumi = Eternal Punishment

Batsu = Innocent Sin

Both are Persona 2 titles, with Batsu never seeing the light of a localized day.
Nash
Is Persona 3 supposed to be a direct sequel to those games?
Apart from the minor reference in The Hermit S.Link... I thought this game stood on its own just fine. Maybe I'm wrong.
SonicX_Zero
Its not exactly a direct sequel, but it does have a minor connection, I'm more inclined to think that P3 happens in a different place and different time as Persona 2. There is one interesting link between a certain group in Persona 3 and a character who was in the first three Persona games.

*spoilers*
The Kirijo(sp?) group broke off from the Nanjou group which was headed by Nate Nanjou, one of the main characters in Persona 1 and one of the returning characters in Persona 2.
Verner
The 4th episode moved so slowly. =( Hopefully, the 5th is able to pick things up. I really want something to happen soon, plotwise, that will blow me away.

Granted, the karaoke scene was pretty cool. >.>

Have there been any ties to P3 yet? Other than the Apathy Syndrome, and the 10 year time span, I mean. Has anyone else noticed that some songs from P3 have made it into the anime? They're remixed versions, but it was cool to hear those songs again.

EDIT: Spoilers -> Does anyone have any info on Shadow Stripping/Extraction/Pulling? The kids use it like a drug, but do they use their own Personas? It sounded like Takuro had never seen a Persona before Shin did the S.S/E/P on him.
Crimson Cloud
Perhaps the main characters from this anime would visit the main hero's grave on which will say ''Here lies the main protagonist of the P3 game 10 years ago'' lol. Well I know he has a manga name but if they are thinking of a game then it would be like that. I would really like if they would show other characters but I wouldn't hold my breath.
AnimePaul
Well I've watched up to episode 9 and so far the series has been decent. There hasn't been any big plot twists or OMG moments, but I hope they come soon because it has been pretty boring so far.
Red_ryaN
what is it?
new anime?
based on a game?
.. etc

I haven't heard of it
LagunaWannabe
I'm pretty dissappointed with the anime actually. I read online it's supposed to be 10 episodes long, and 9 have been released so far.

I hardly see any ties to P3 at all.. But here they are so far:

-Older brother takes pills (We dont know what they are, but could be related to Strega)
-Voice actor from the phone that older brother talks to is Akihiko's voice actor, so it could be Akihiko
-Girl with Magenta hair that kinda looks like Mitsuru holds her finger up like the MC in FES's opening intro
-Jun/Yuki had their accident 10 years ago. Yuki was killed.

But the anime is pretty bad so far in terms of satisfaction. I mean, the Persona's are so weird and different compared to P3's Personas, Soul Stripping is like wtf? Reverse cases are weird, and there are SOOO many untold plot details:

-Who the magenta haired girl is
-Who the new Green haired girl is and her relation to the Outsiders
-What do the Outsiders really want?
-Who is the older brother talking to and why?
-What are the pills
-Who is the green haired girl's Persona looking for?
-What is the meaning behind the Whale Feather and its connection to P3?
-What is Jun's special ability?
-What is the meaning of ANY of the kids from school? They have had like, no significance whatsoever.
-How did the diver disappear really from the 1st episode?
-What exactly happened in the Karaoke room when the kids were killed with Morimoto and Megumi?
-Why is the afro kid's test stuck under the "Confession Tree"

its just like wtf are all these questions gonna do in ONE episode?

I checked Anime News Network and this series is label to have 26 episodes, not 10. Also, most anime series go to at least 12 or 13 if it's going to be a short series, 10 a odd number to end at. This series is likely 26 episode long.
LagunaWannabe
damnit wikipedia, on the list of episodes for the past 2 months it's only listed 10 openings for episodes, so i thought there were only 10 episodes. nvm im pumped now
Voyou San
i am on episode 13 right now and the place i go to watch them posted up the 16th episode on April 16th, but no clue when they will stop.
LagunaWannabe
I just watched the latest subbed episode, 15, and there's something I'm kinda concerned about: SPOILER

Akihiko says that Persona users start to lose their abilities as they age. That's why Riou takes those pills, it's so he can continue to use it.... So if ppl start losing their Persona abilities as they age, it kinda makes sense that the Main Character won't be able to hold Nyx forever. Like, he's holding her back with the Ultimate Persona, but if you can't use Personas anymore after time, It's a definite possibility that he'll not be able to continue
Voyou San
i was happy to see a character from the game in this anime, i believe its the first one if i am not mistaken.
LagunaWannabe
Yep, and there's rumors that Inui (spelling) the kid that has light brown hair and follows the group around is actually Ken-kun since he shows he's known Akihiko for some time and is knowledgable about Personas. He also owns a dog in the dorm even though they're not allowed, and it's been speculated that it's Koromaru. But who knows.

that would be pretty cool if that was true.

Don't know how many people actively keep up with the anime but Episode 18 was just released on youtube (Raw version unfortunately), they're doing a really slow job of subbing things. The latest subbed episode is 15 and 16 should be done soon, but I always like watching the raw episodes cause I can never wait.

2 things to mention:

1. The NEwsest episode, 18, is almost horrifying. IT's the most compelling episode thus far even though I don't know what they're saying.

2. In the preview of the next episode, they show this guy:

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a82/VLoire/Junpei.jpg

Maybe it's just me, but I think that looks a LOT like Junpei.
Voyou San
yea on the site i visit it still has yet to sub epi 16 sad.gif

and to me he looks nothing like junpei but i could be wrong..
Nash
Just started watching this. I can see how closely this series resembles the Persona 3 game, once the gameplay and humour are removed. wub.gif

It seems Persona 4 is set between the Persona 3 and this series chronologically, so who knows how that'd work out...

Just started watchng the series, on ep. 2 right now. I kind of find it funny that the songs from the game showed up in this episode.

There's a couple different P3 Easter Eggs in the anime.

I'm up to Episode 19 now which is the latest, and the anime definitely has me on a "wtf" factor. I have no idea what's going on, what's gonna happen, or what's even happening in the PRESENT moment of the series. There's so many questions and unknown things, it's a great anime to get hooked on because we know so little.

Kind of reminds me of Full Metal Alchemist how things didn't really expose themselves until the end of the series.

agreed i am really loving the anime and yea it def. does keep you guessing a bit.. i am really liking how they did the persona's, very cool stuff..

what though do you mean P3 Easter Eggs?
Nash
Random references, huh...

I'm only up to 16 now. Akihiko barely changed over the 10 years, lmao. Save for his physique, I guess. wub.gif
I wonder if Mitsuru's coming back any time soon.

That midpoint of the story was a surprise though.
