In a move that certainly won’t irritate any old-school nostalgia junkies, Square Enix, according to the usually reliable, Japanese-reading RPG-o-philes at NeoGAF, has announced Final Fantasy IV The After - Return to the Moon for mobile phones, a direct sequel to SE’s classic RPG Final Fantasy IV.

The game, featuring a descendant of Cecil named Theodore, looks to take place after the events of the original Final Fantasy IV.

The game is scheduled for release in Japan in February 2008 for NTT DoCoMo phones and spring for AU Win Brew supported devices. Bitter tears are, however, available now, and in large quantities.

PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN?

Although it's very interesting to see such a thing, I wish they'd lay off the damned mobile phone games. dry.gif I guess they must be popular in Japan, but it's kind of annoying to see so many mobile phone games, since (far as I know) they're not very appealing over here.

Still, an FF IV sequel sounds... "interesting," as I said above. It seems kind of weird to me to make a sequel to IV, of all things, though. I just think it ended on a good note, and doesn't really call for a sequel. I mean, sure, it's always an idea to show what kinds of things happened afterwards, but I just don't feel it's really needed. Better choices out there for a sequel, in my opinion. Nonetheless, I'm intrigued, and interested to see where this goes.

I agree, but we just have to accept the market looks different in japan then america or europe!

For a Japanese person, a good way to kill time on the subway. For me, another way to empty my cell phone batteries more quickly, that won't even come here.
