Yup, after rumuors started spreading then Sony trademarked the name, Sony have came out and officially announced Resistance 2. They also spoke a little about what we can expect:

QUOTE
The game will feature the standard single-player campaign as well as an eight-player online co-op campaign that's objective-based. Two people can still work together locally.

Ready to beat each other senseless online? Resistance 2 will feature 60-player matches set in the United States.

Sorry, Rachel; the campaign will pick up from Fall of Man's epilogue and stick solely with Nathan Hale as he copes with getting shot down in Iceland, escaping to the states and joining the "Sentinels" program.

There will be classes. Characters will start out from one of three basic templates -- a "tank-style" soldier rocking a chain gun, a "Special Ops class" that seems like a sniper or a medic whose "Medicator" gun will hurt enemies and heal allies -- and go from there.

When you and a team of friends head into battle, there will not be a selectable difficulty. Insomniac will be auto-scaling the challenge to the skill of you and your squad. When you jump into a random online match, you'll be teamed with partners and opponents who are around your personal level.

"Personal" is going to be a big word in Resistance 2. The game will have dedicated servers for gaming, community and stats as well as gamer profile pages on myresistance.net. In-game, the setup will be completely open when it comes to clans and parties -- the era of invites has come to a close.

Vehicles are in the game, but Insomniac wouldn't let on about their role.

The game's set in the '50s, but expect a more modern U.S. landscape as well as a focus on the aerial side of the Chimeran attack.

The game's AI has been overhauled -- they have improved routines and detachable armor pieces -- and boss battles will be more important than ever.

I was half-expecting for a second game to come out, after the first was such a hit and all. My brother wanted to get Resistance + Ratchet and Clank (waiting for another of those as well, despite the fact one just came out...=p) when he got a PS3 (probably not for a while), so I’m sure if this is out by the time he gets one, he’ll just get both of them. I’m usually not all that interested in FPS’s, but Resistance I admit has caught my attention and not just because Insomniac was behind it =p. Good news though. Something to look forward to on the PS3 if I or anyone in my family ever gets one =).
The Evil Dead
No surprise at all considering that Resistance was one of the few early big hits for Sony. It's a very well designed game from a dedicated company that is always trying to entertain as well as be innovative. I hold nothing but the highest expectations for this title and can't wait for more details.

You bet I'm fanboying. This should really be the #####.
Mushroom
Yea, it sure is good news. The thing with resistance as well was that, as I played through the story I was like "hmm, ok, they're setting alot of plot details up that they can come back to, i wonder if there will be a big twist at the end". No twist, but plenty of plot that I want answered so even from a story standpoint, this game is greatly welcomed.

More vehicles too. My and my room-mate did the co-op and by far the ebst level for us was the jeep level, and I could have done with alot more of that.

OH my. Some absolutely stunning shots there. If the game plays with that quality ( and I have no reason to doubt insomniac), R2 looks like a winner.
The Evil Dead
I've been looking into previews and this game is going to be breathtaking. Any PS3 shittalker can shut their hole when they play this one... The 60 player online play ALONE has me sold on the sequel. It's going to run at the smooth 60 fps, it's going to look beautiful, and it's going to be one of the best FPS titles made in my opinion.

I mean you can really do no wrong with Insomiac. I Believe they're really going to push the limits of the PS3 with this one and since they've had a couple shots at it so far, should be delivering an even more superior product than the original Resistance ( Is that possible? ).

Seriously. I'm VERY amped about this title. They've stated they're increasing the odds this time around and really want the player to experience a very bleak ( In a good way ) and difficult title... Meaning you vs swarms and swarms of enemies, fighting the odds even more so than the original. I honestly just can't wait for this one.

I'm just making sure that these kits are for the multiplayer aspect of the game, and not the actual campaigne, right?

Very good news for me. I love the fact that they are adopting the dedicate servers. This means no more crapfest hosting abilities and hardly any lag(such a mess these days now).

Sounds good as well. I'm just a bit worried about the massive swarms vs just one man and a bunch of inconsistent smart AI's. I do agree they need to add more enemies(especially in the close combat levels, such as buildings and whatnot), but will there be more allies with you to cope with that kind of a threat, or will you, once again, be left with just a squad or platoon of soldiers?
Mushroom
In regards to the classes question, thats a definete for multiplayer, not quite sure on the single player, I'd have to re-read all the stuff they've said on it. I wouldn't be suprised though, they seem very eager to give more and it would be sweet.

I'm glad to see you guys are so amped, even just the screen have me in awe, but all their ideas sound like solid ones and there's no possible reason I can see for Insomniac failing to deliver. Having never played a game of theirs before the PS£, Resistance and R&C have blown me away - in such a little time they've got to grips with the PS3 SO fast, its exciting to imagine what they will produce with a good 2 years of practice later.
The Evil Dead
Considering there's 8 player co-op online I suggest once the game is released ( And I better have an HD TV by that time... My games look like TOTAL ass on my regular TV... Had to move and all ) we PS3 owners must band together and destroy.
Mushroom
Hell yea. I think i have a bunch of you added from the sticky list above, but especially when this game comes out with the 8 player co-op, it would be VERY awesome to have a dreamers quest ^^

http://kotaku.com/5007973/resistance-2-wil...yer-multiplayer

Resistance 2 will feature eight-player co-op which will have its own story, characters and rewards, Ted Price, president of Insomniac Games, told the folks at today's UK Sony Gamers Day.

Multiplayer will support up to 60 players and include Chimera, again, it will also be structured in a way to bring back a sense of intimacy. There will be squads within these mammoth fights, making the game feel more personal and filled with skirmishes instead of giant, faceless wars. The game will use some sort of system to make sure you always respawn near the same group of players, so you can really start to gun for them.

R2, which is six months from hitting shelves, will also include persistent levels which you earn by getting points for things like bonus points.
The Evil Dead
I really do spooge myself every time I hear 60 player multiplayer at 60 fps. I really do.

http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3167708&p=37

Resistance 2 came out for its first public viewing at Sony's PlayStation Day in London, and we took the opportunity to try it out. While only a limited multiplayer demo, what we played left us with plenty to be excited about. Considering a good six months' worth of development time remains to polish and perfect things before this fall's release, the game already looks impressive, easily equaling the standard of the original. That amounts to no small feat for a game supporting 60 players running around vast levels with a variety of crazy weapons, but developer Insomniac Games has its sights set higher. President and CEO Ted Price says that there's plenty of new technology yet to add to the game. As far as he's concerned, these are still the early days of development.

Extensive community features figure to be a big part of the online component. Plans center on making myresistance.net a hub for online players, built around the sort of social features that drive popular sites like Facebook. Price declined to go into detail, but expect Resistance 2 to become the flagship online title for PS3, and not solely for its 60-player battles.

Price did offer a little deeper insight on the design direction behind the large-scale battles planned for competitive online. Because the chaos of full, 30-on-30 battles would detract from much of the potential fun, combat comes down to what he calls "battles within battles." Each side in the conflict consists of smaller squads, but more than that, these squads get individual tasks assigned to them. The result pits squads against each other, all vying to achieve a number of different goals around the battlefield simultaneously.

The demo level we played showed these microbattles in full effect. In forest of giant trees, our team had to defend a blue energy core from the opposing faction. A standard arrow popped up to guide us to the base and get in position. Once secured, things get a little more complex. We could stay and defend that point, move to secure the next objective, or move to help another squad on our team that was in trouble. This sense of having real choices that mattered to the outcome helped make it feel like we were doing our part in something on a far bigger scale. Voice chat with your squadmates and the intimacy of the fighting also keep things up close and personal.

And that's the perfect range to enjoy all the toys you get to play with. One particularly interesting new feature, which Price called a "berserk," sees you earning points in battle by taking down enemies and making sure you execute your orders. That last part provides another incentive for sticking together as a group: Once these points fill up your gauge, you can activate a special power-up. In this demo, only an energy shield was available, but the plan calls for several different ones. How exactly you get them and whether certain powers might be tied to your character class remains to be decided as part of Insomniac's ongoing tuning.

In its present form, the shield proved plenty effective, particularly coupled with the new minigun. We could run up on a group of defenders, pop the shield, and then mow them down in a hail of bullets, Predator-style -- very cool. Along with new weapons, we also got a hint of some of the changes to old favorites. The auger gun, with its projectiles that slowly burrow through walls, now features an X-ray sight for targeting hidden enemies. Controls also have seen some changes. A simple toggle system lets you swap between two weapons with the triangle button, replacing the old radial menu for managing your arsenal. And a nifty little new Sixaxis addition lets you flick the controller to the left to open the map and to the right to call up the scoreboard. In action, this worked surprisingly better than you might suspect.

The demo came to an end all too soon, though, which says a lot about how immediately addictive it already is. That alone bodes well for the final game, but it's only a small part of the full package. There's still both co-op and single-player campaigns that we haven't seen at all yet. Between now and its presumed November release, Resistance 2 still holds plenty more for us to find out about.
LunarMaster
Not really a big fan of the first one, so I'll skip. I would be nice if they release a demo though.
The Evil Dead
You're a madman, Lunar. Resistance has some of the best multiplayer around as far as fragging goes... It's probably my favorite fragger on the console and even close to tops including PC titles.

Seriously. The more I see about this game the more excited I get. The trailer looks great and from the comments we have a lot more coming at us. Insomniac is one of the greatest developers today in my opinion and I don't think they'll fail to deliver in any way.

I expect a lot from the multiplayer and a great single player/ co-op campaign.

Speaking with Eurogamer.net Ted Price the CEO and President of Insomniac Games he got asked a question on what resolution and frames per second their upcoming first person shooter, Resistanc 2 will run at/in. He responded with that the game will run in 720p at 30 frames per second. Just so you know here is the full question and answer.

“ps3owner asks: What is the resolution and the framerate of the game?

Ted Price: 720p, 30fps.”

At least we now know that Resistance 2 will be running in a HD resolution.
The Evil Dead
Groovy. I expect the game to perform smoothly throughout just as the first did. Good news.

Eight Minutes of Gameplay

Looks great (though, to quote the blogger, it's "extremely blurry and unflattering footage". But it's footage of R2, and I think the game looks great.). Thought I'd just post it up in case anyone was interesting in seeing it.

Definitely looks more interesting than the first and at least this time everything doesn't have about 50 different shades of brown in it. Although in fairness to the original it's one of the few FPS that start out slow but mostly gets better as it goes on, where as most FPS the opposite is true. One thing I noticed which I hope they fix in time for the release was some texture pop in at distances that weren't all that far off to begin with(mainly on the trees), but yeah either way it looks decent.

August 22, 2008 - One of the meetings I was most looking forward to here at this year's Germans Games Conventions was a private presentation on Insomniac's next big hit: Resistance 2. I was disappointed that the demo on the show floor was a very short affair we had seen several times before, so I was expecting this private demonstration to go beyond that and perhaps hint at some new information. Fortunately, that was the case as I was treated to a bunch of new tidbits by Ryan Schneider, Community Director at Insomniac Games.

The structure of the presentation was very unique, considering how it didn't have any particular focal point but instead was a rich mix of game history, trailers, screenshots and bullet points. Schneider started the presentation by noting that there would be a new weapon revealed by the end of the demo, and then commented -- almost casually -- that most of Resistance 2 is done and Insomniac is in the final polishing stage of production. That's sure to please Resistance fans who have their eyes on the countdown clock.

Schneider then jumped into a brief overview of the game's alternate history and debuted a new trailer for the game that lays out a timeline of events leading up to Resistance 2 -- all portrayed with vivid, constantly evolving graphics and icons. Certain plot points were discussed as Schneider touched on the Sentinels, S.R.P.A., Dr. Fyodor Malikov and even Project Abraham. Although he tried not to divulge too much information about these very intriguing story elements, I couldn't help but wonder what sort of surprises await Resistance fans come November.

Moving on, Schneider reiterated the primary points that govern Resistance 2 and its sense of scale. It's all about campaign, cooperative, competitive and community. If you hadn't heard about it before, the co-op mode in Resistance 2 will feature a separate parallel story to the campaign which expands the experience even more. But the real meat of the multiplayer experience, it seems, comes from the competitive portions of the game.

"Massive battles, greater intimacy" was one of Schneider's points for describing the competitive mode. Teamwork will be a huge part in Resistance 2 but also individual player progression, squads and a constantly growing XP pool are tremendous additions to the mix that are sure to delight fans. Schneider also touched on a few specific elements of battle, including Berserks (temporary power-ups like invisibility and speed boosts) and weapon load outs, which both add layer upon layer to the complexity of the multiplayer dynamic. There will be hundreds of character class and weapon load out combinations for players to consider.

The levels in Resistance 2 are up to four times larger than those of Resistance: Fall of Man and there will be around 70 different map/game type combinations to experiment with. Clearly, Resistance 2 has an incredibly deep multiplayer that's sure to extend the title's life significantly.

Schneider brought the presentation to a close with a new weapon reveal: the Splicer. A rifle-like firearm with a large circular blade on the front instead of a barrel, the Splicer launches spinning blades at your enemies with highly gory results. You can rev up the blade before launching it, which not only makes it superheated by also keeps it spinning through your opponents even after impact. Yikes. This weapon, while groovy, reminded me a lot of the Buzz Blades from Ratchet and Clank. Although the weapons from Tools of Destruction are awesome, I want to see new items in Resistance 2, not the same things.

But I think it's safe to say that I'm going to have a blast with Resistance 2. I can't wait to find out more about what's going on with the elusive Nathan Hale later this year.

On a sort of side-note, has anybody been keeping up with the ARGs (alternate reality game, for those who don't know...) like Project Abraham?
The Evil Dead
Man. The multiplayer is going to be so sick in this game it's not even going to be funny. It sounds like they're working doubly on the multiplayer aspect of the game, even though I was very satisfied with the first title. Should be interesting to see what all we get to do. smile.gif

That multi player info does sound quite exciting and that's not like me because I usually couldn't care less about MP games with exception to Left 4 Dead.

Eurogamer posted a teaser video called Twisted History it looks really cool, this info and the amount of work and effort that seems to be going into this game on SP and MP is actually breaking down the "barriers" and scepticisms (despite being quite impressed with the original) I had about this game.

Thats an awesome new trailer. I can really feel this thing building now. Not in an over hyped way, but just the stuff they are showing that is there, that is in the game, its building the excitement on its own and as good as the original was, this is looking like its going to be SO much more. I personally didn't play much on the online of R1 but the online of R2 is looking almost mroe like the main game this time round, and something that cannot be missed out. The co-op having a unique story is a great idea too, and me and my friends are already geared up to do it haha. I think by the time november comes I'll be dying to play this game.

Pick the cover for R2: Collector's Edition

#3 does it for me. I didn't vote, but that one I personally think looks the best out of the lot. Thought I'd post this up in case anyone was interested in seeing what the box art looked like.

Also, nice video you got, Cloudy. =).
Mushroom
I voted for three yesterday. 2 looks like a decent normal cover, and 3 is pretty badass. 1...meh, not so much for me. Great idea by insomniac, letting the fans vote, but I'm slightly suspicious of 1 just being put in there as a dud on purpose.
Dragon Brigade
R2 CE details appear on Amazon

Sounds spiffy. Not that I could buy it anyway though.
Mushroom
I usually don\'t bother with these things ( couldn\'t care about the figure less) but I love the R2 world, and I definetely want the rest, esp. the artbook. Bought, day of release.

Well it's been dated for November 4th in the US - no confirmation on Europe yet other than "fairly soon".

New update:

QUOTE
In addition to the newly announced PSP Plus, Sony unveiled yet another way for your PSP and PS3 to interact with each other. All you have to do is connect a PSP running Resistance: Retribution with a PS3 running Resistance 2. Under R2's option screen, select "Infect your PSP!" and your PSP will enter "Infection mode."

This "Infection mode" will cause your character in Retribution, former British Marine James Grayson, to become infected with an alternate mutated form of the Chimera virus Nathan Hale is infected with. You gain a new uniform, R2 weaponry, additional abilities, access to new Chimera areas, and more. Even the story will be slightly altered -- characters in the story will be aware of your Chimerian infection which will alter their behavior accordingly. For more details, Andrew has written a hands-on over at Joystiq that you can access right here.

For whatever reason, I didn't get the invite for the Beta. If you pre-order this at a gamestop you get a beta invite card, and it's a guaranteed invite. I entered all my information and email and never received anything, and there's no way to like redo the whole process.

Lame, very lame. I wanted a headstart in multiplayer.

I just received my beta code today, but I'm gonna leave it overnight to download along with the demo of Valkyria Chronicles. Does the beta work now by the way? The reason you probably couldn't get in could be that the beta hasn't started yet because I'm seeing a lot of threads from different forums that they just got their beta keys today.
The Evil Dead
No. There was no problem with the code. It's with connecting to games, a small share of people have the issue and I have a topic about it going over at the official Resistance forums that more people are popping in to share the same issue in. I can play the game now, using wireless instead of wired connection. It doesn't make sense at all, because I have all the other right settings to play the game online just as the rest of my games.

Oh well, I'm sure they'll fix it by the time it comes out. I just hate using wireless for gaming.
Voyou San
well i got into the beta and i am very impressed with the game. I have not tried to competitive online yet but i did play the co-op and it was a blast. Got in a server with 7 other people and was rolling as a medic. The game requires a lot of teamwork and its just flat out fun. Getting to level up your character and whatnot is also a nice touch. Very well played Insomniac smile.gif
The Evil Dead
IGN gave it a 9.5... And based on the little beta experience I'm finally able to have, it's well deserved. Nothing beats playing 30 vs 30 and running into like 15 of the enemy and going beserk with the grenade launcher thingy and lighting everyone on fire. The game runs smooth with no hiccups at all. Love it.

That's probably what I'm going to do, Resistance 1 was pretty enjoyable to play through, but I need a break from the FPS scene (I've been playing too much CoD 4 and I need a break from FPS games) and go back to my RPG roots. Besides, I'm willing to bet (Not really) even after the Beta, there's gonna be a few patches needed to make the 60 player online function well enough to play.
