Just looking for some info here guys. I'm right near the end of Suikoden II with just one more character to recruit for the full 108 stars. According to the detective (Richmond?) its another flying squirrel - a blue caped one according to the NPC in Greenhill - somewhere in between Greenhill and Two River.
I'm on my third day of trying to find the little bastard now and i'm really getting fed up - i've spent a good couple of hours walking round the same area - seriously i must have every pixel of the world map in that area committed to memory let alone the music.
I've checked a few guides and none of them seem to agree to the requirements - some say your party needs to have no one but the hero, others say you must have the other squirrel in the party and others just say you need an empty slot. And i've tried all of them and still nothing
Does anyone know which one it is and if there's any information about a more specific location other than 'somewhere between Greenhill and Two River' - something similar to the DoReMi Elf in Suikoden V that's always found around a particular clump of trees.
Any help would be appreciated.

Richmond is not good for looking for stars of destiny. Hes good for finding EVERYBODY.
Makumaku is not one of the stars of destiny, nor is the other 4. Only the very first one.
You are missing someone else.
But to get him, you need to be alone. I've got them all and that's definitely how you get him.
The hardest one is Mokumoku, unless you do it for completion purposes like I did, the time spent trying to get this bastard is not worth it -,-.

#####! - i must have missed someone and i'd been so damn careful! I've got one space left on the tablet and Richmond only mentions Makumaku, but from what you've said his word means jack.
Thanks for the info anyway - if i can work out who i've missed and recruit them i'll try and get the squirrels anyway to go for the completion as there's no way in hell i'll be doing that when I try to complete Clive's sidequest.

gamefaqs.com?
Look up who you're missing and recruit, if you are still able to.
You do get a special clip at the end though, if you manage to get all 5 squirrels.

If all you is the squirrel, there is no need to be alone. Just have an empty slot in the party and wait on the path mentioned by Richmond. You don't even have to fight battles. But make sure it's the right area.
Sooner or later, that blasphemous creature will magically appear in your party.
As for the tablet, you sure you have Mukumuku already? Then, the one you are missing may not be a squirrel after all. Probably a plot recruit, time limited character or something else altogether...

Had a spot of luck for a change - turned out i'd just missed out recruiting Vincent - found him lurking round Radaat, so it wasn't anyone miss-able - was worried it was someone from right near the beginning.
Well after a couple of hours I finally managed to get hold of the rest of the squirrels - wasn't too difficult after i'd recruited Makumaku. Made a point of noting down exactly where I found them for next time - not going through that again.
A bit disappointed in their Unison attack though, so much potential for a laugh and it gives you that - not much of an incentive. But hey at least I can move on to the finale of the game now, well after my exams have finished anyway.

Vincent is in fact a missable character.

Sorry when I said miss-able I meant some one who was a time-limited character. Unless of course he's one of those too.

I suspected that you missed Clive, as that would be the worst. His earliest event in Muse is easily missable...
Glad you found them squirrels. I could never do them and complete Clive's quest in the same playthrough.

A bit late, but for future reference, I guess, the four extra squirrels are all found on the world map pretty much just in each direction from Greenhill. North: path between Greenhill and the path to Matilda, east: path between Greenhill and the gate to Muse, south: path between Greenhill and Two River, and west: between Greenhill and Forest Village (I think I found this one somewhere in the area far to the south of Forest Village). From what I remember, the chances are best if you've got just Riou and Mukumuku in your party, though I'm not entirely sure how I did it, myself, so I can't say for sure.
I'm not entirely sure about Mukumuku's second appearance, but the first chance to get him is just by examining the tree behind Genkaku's house in Kyaro twice during your first visit (before being captured, so before meeting Nanami).
The squirrels' Unite attack is indeed hardly worth the effort of collecting them, though if memory serves me well, I think it's got a chance of instant-KO (at least on most common enemies).
There is somewhat of an extra scene in the ending if you collect them all, though hardly anything to make it especially worthwhile. On top of that, if you save after collecting all five squirrels, your save file's icon will change from the rune(?) to Mukumuku's face.

Clive was a bitch to find during the first game, he would show up only during a random time at a city. As for the squirrells, I spent 8 hours (I kid you not) just looking for them. Afterwards, I realized how much RPGs wasted my life, . . .and I was enjoying it.

Omg! I didn't know that or I would have gotten them for Mukumuku's face! ;_; If I manage to clear my backlog (almost impossible), I'll see if I can get the final savepoint file and get the squirrels. >.<

Actually, the first squirll is a Star. Its his 4 friends that aren't. Wanna know another real kicker, you could have gotten him super early in the game with relative ease.
Slight Spoiler:
Basically, remember when you went back to your hometown after passing through the Sparrow pass and fighting the mist monster? Well, when you went back to your house, before talking to Nanami out back, if you go to that big tree on the right side of your house, he's there. You gotta walk up to the tree and search it (hit X or whatever button you have assigned for it) like 3 to 5 times, then your character will walk around the tree as if he's searching for something and the squirl will be behind you. Thus, getting the squirll without pulling yoru damn hair out.
end spoiler.
I find this topic funny cause my friend made the same mistake and had to find the damn thing the hard way. Whats really funny is that she spent nearly 5 hours the first time she went to Greenhill trying to find the thing. Got nothing. Then she went back right before the invasion of Highland castle and within 2 fights, she got him. It was hilarious.
