A-H
Abel

Abel is best known as the pilot of Omega Res Novae. However, he's more than just that. He's also the material form of U-DO (while Abel's Ark is the imaginary form). U-DO appeared as Abel for the first time during the era of Lost Jerusalem, at the very same time as Nephilim's appearance. This hints at some kind of connection between the two.
Xenogears reference: He resembles Abel (and thus also Fei) from Xenogears both in name and looks.
Aizen Magus

Resident of the Dabrye Mine on Miltia. He was part of the resistance movement formed by mine workers of the Dabrye Mine, to fight the harsh working conditions which the U-TIC organisation forced upon them. He had a son, Tethlla, who lost his life (see Tethlla Magus) and also has a granddaughter, Mai (see Mai Magus).
Xenogears reference: He resembles "old man Bal" (aka the sage of Shevat, Balthazar). Balthazar had a granddaughter as well, who also closely resembles Aizen's granddaughter.
Albedo Piazzolla

URTV #667, a variant with white hair. He was born as conjoined twins with Rubedo (see Jr.), but they were separated. Their powers went opposite ways: Albedo has recuperative abilities, even surpassing nanomachines in rebuilding speed, thus basically making him immortal. On the other hand, Rubedo's cell growth stopped altogether.
He was a member of Dmitri Yuriev's URTV (U-DO Retro Virus) force, created specifically to oppose U-DO. However, Albedo became contaminated by U-DO's waveform and developed a mental instability because of this. The contamination was a result of the collapse of their psychic bond, which was caused when Rubedo shut out his mind in fear of U-DO going out of control. Hence Albedo feels betrayed by his other half, explaining his now obsessive behavior when dealing with Rubedo.
Yet his half-mad persona wasn't only the result of his U-DO contamination: because of his immortality he failed to understand the fear of injury or death by others. Possibly as a reaction to this he developed fear of rejection and solitude, and was badly obsessed with forming relationships with others.
After the Miltian Conflict Albedo was found unconscious by Sellers, underneath the central shaft of the Song of Nephilim. He was badly injured, but eventually recovered. At this point, he joined forces with Margulis and Sellers to obtain the Y-Data left by Joachim Mizrahi. Yet, his true objective was to link completely with U-DO, since this is the only way he can achieve true oblivion. For this purpose, he pursued MOMO together with Margulis.
His unnatural fixation on MOMO was both because of his desire to obtain the Y-Data, as well as the relationship between Rubedo and the girl MOMO was modeled after; Sakura Mizrahi (see Sakura). Rubedo and Sakura's friendly behavior caused Albedo to feel lonely and excluded, leading him to enviously long for interacting with others in the same way. But due to his inability to understand others' pain and consequently fail to touch their hearts, he can only express his emotions in a warped, twisted manner. His cruel behavior to MOMO and Kirschwassers is yet another warped reflection of his envious feelings.
Once he obtained the Y-Data, revived Miltia, and ultimately linked with U-DO again, he was assimilated into U-DO. Thus, becoming one with its waveforms and awaiting destruction at the hands of Rubedo's anti-waveforms.
After he obtained total oblivion and was finally freed from his immortal body, Wilhelm negotiated with Albedo: he proposed to unify him with Rubedo. Responding to his true desire, Albedo agreed and was reborn as a Testament. However, when the promised time came, Albedo decided to perish along with Dmitri Yuriev in order to protect Rubedo. But at the last moment, Nigredo took his place and Albedo's true wish was fulfilled: a true psychic union with Rubedo.
Alby

The little albino dog that Jr. keeps on the Durandal after Albedo's death. Even though Jr. claims to have named him Alby because it's an albino, the dog probably serves as a reminder of Albedo as well. Apparently, the dog is not very fond of Nigredo.
Alexei Tsiolkovskyi
Leader of the anti-UMN organisation, VLV ("Veritas Liberabit Vos" = "The Truth Shall Set You Free").
Allen Ridgeley

Vice Chief of Vector Industries First R&D Division's KOS-MOS Project. During Shion's time at Vector, he supported her as best as he could. He has a crush on Shion, but tries to hide it. His subordinates like to tease him about it. After Shion's departure from Vector, he was appointed Chief and sent to the Testing Ground on Fifth Jerusalem (yet he continues to address Shion as "Chief").
He gradually matures as the story progresses, and eventually proves his worth when he stands up to Kevin and openly shows his true feelings for Shion. After the incident on Michtam, he continues to grow closer to Shion, thus having a promising future ahead of him.
Andrew Cherenkov

Commander Cherenkov, positioned aboard the Woglinde in order to investigate the disappearance of planet Ariadne. However, his true identity is as a member of Ormus.
His tragic past led him there. He was created as a tool of war by the Life Recycling Law. But after the war ended, he was unable to reintegrate into society. He became isolated and eventually began comitting crimes. He then underwent personality reconditioning treatment, yet rejected each attempt. Ultimately, his feelings of betrayal drove him to murder his wife and daughter, as well as countless others.
But then, he joined the U-TIC Organisation after being scouted by Margulis. He managed an impressive transformation: he succesfully completed all the missions given to him by Margulis. These include his involvement with the experiments which caused the disappearance of planet Ariadne, and also the attack on Vector's research facility (in order to steal KOS-MOS). During his attempt to steal her, archetype KOS-MOS went out of control causing death and destruction around her. This had cast a fear in Cherenkov, which is the reason why he fears and distrusts the newly built KOS-MOS.
After the Gnosis attack on the Woglinde, he teamed up with Shion and the others (yet still as a spy for the U-TIC Organisation). At some point he was touched by a Gnosis and nearly turned to salt, but chaos interfered and defeated the Gnosis in time. However, this later caused Cherenkov to mutate into a giant Gnosis himself, and attack Shion and company.
After his defeat, he was finally able to reflect upon himself and the world which rejected him, during his final moments. Soon after, he passed away.
Xenogears reference: Cherenkov's story (and looks) are similar to Xenogears' Ramsus. In Xenogears, Ramsus would snap whenever someone called him "trash". In Xenosaga, Cherenkov loses it when a girl calls him "garbage". So they share the same inferiority complex.
Aoi Uzuki

Shion's mother. Due to her compatibility with U-DO, she became the subject of U-DO observation and eventually slipped into a coma. She was taken to Labyrinthos, where her husband Suou performed experiments on her unconscious mind while working together with Joachim Mizrahi.
During the Miltian Conflict, she is slaughtered by 27-Series Asuras who had gone out of control. Shion witnessed this with her own eyes.
Betty
Betty is the name given to the girl who turned into a Gnosis (instead of turning white and shattering) and was stored on the Durandal by Jr. and company. They chose this name because a monogrammed "B" was found amongst her belongings.
Boss

The owner of Moby Dick's Café, his name is Stubb. His line of liqueurs, curry, and the rest of his food menu is quite popular. He named the café after the famous novel "Moby Dick", which was recommended to him by Jin.
Bunnie

A caricature of a rabbit, well known across all regions of the galaxy. A variety of industries have used its cuteness to sell merchandise. Shion has been a huge fan since childhood, and uses Bunnie as the procurator for her connection gear.
Canaan

A special enhanced memory model Realian on loan from Vector to Second Miltia. He was installed with Program Canaan; the recording component (personality) used was that of Lactis, a subordinate of Ziggy during his time as a Federation Police officer.
Seeing as Canaan's memories of the Federation Police returned even after his recording component had been reformatted, the conclusion was that the memories and consciousness of Realians exist within the realm of the collective unconscious, just like humans'.
Due to the special characteristics of Program Canaan, he was able to secure a bypass route to Wilhelm's power. Making use of Voyager's desires, Canaan connected Voyager's consciousness with that power, which caused Voyager to overflow and ultimately destroy him along with Canaan himself.
Catherine (Cathe)

A transgenic type Realian manufactured by Joachim Mizrahi. Her nickname is Cathe. She was created according to concrete data taken from Febronia, which was tuned and used as the core of a system to control U-DO. Febronia regards Cathe as her sister, but technically she is actually Febronia's clone.
Her life is terminated when KOS-MOS destroys the system mentioned above, effectively releasing Cathe (and Cecily) from her cursed fate.
Cecilia (Cecily)

A transgenic type Realian manufactured by Joachim Mizrahi. Her nickname is Cecily. She was created according to concrete data taken from Febronia, which was tuned and used as the core of a system to control U-DO. Febronia regards Cecily as her sister, but technically she is actually Febronia's clone.
Her life is terminated when KOS-MOS destroys the system mentioned above, effectively releasing Cecily (and Cathe) from her cursed fate.
chaos

At first sight a quiet young boy, distinguished by his transparent blue eyes and silver hair. But in truth, he is the human incarnation of Anima; a power derived from the collective unconscious and present since the beginning of the universe in this dimension. His powers act as a failsafe for all of dimensional space. As such, he goes by the name of Yeshua.
The release of his powers would mean the destruction of dimensional space, so in the distant past his powers were divided up into parts by his antithesis, Mary Magdalene (Animus). chaos regained his former powers through KOS-MOS' awakening, and left the possibility of a future in the hands of Abel (U-DO), who chose to remain in this lower dimension.
chaos unleashed the power of Anima, performing a dimensional shift with Nephilim (the recipient of Mary's power), leading the consciousness of mankind to Lost Jerusalem. He still exists as the universe's failsafe. Because of his fate ordained by God, or perhaps his desired existence by people struggling against their own fates, his future form still lies within the chaotic darkness. Nonetheless, chaos continues to believe.
Citrine

URTV #668. The 668th URTV created by Dmitri Yuriev. She has the ability to function as a failsafe in the event that URTV #666 (Rubedo) goes out of control. As a result of Salvator's genetic modification technology, her physical capabilities are identical to those of her male counterpart, Nigredo. The only difference is that Citrine doesn't function as a host for Dmitri.
She was killed in a final battle with Jr. and company.
Dmitri Yuriev

A former Galaxy Federation Parliament Member and also the donor of the genes used in URTVs. He was quite influential during his time in parliament, and still retains many connections within the Federation to this day. He was said to have died prior to the Miltian Conflict, however he reappeared in public at the time of the space-time anomaly in Miltian space.
In the past, as a test subject in a living matter transportation experiment conducted in the earliest days of the UMN, Yuriev made contact with U-DO and was contaminated. In addition, he was the Galaxy Federation's first Salvator (Salvators are humans who underwent genetic modification during their development phase). The terror which he felt while making contact with U-DO resulted in a trauma, which eventually motivated him to assemble the URTVs in hopes of obliterating U-DO entirely.
In fact, Yuriev did die prior to the Miltian Conflict. He was shot by URTV #669 (Nigredo). But due to his special powers, which he developed as a result of his contact with U-DO, he projected his consciousness into the body of Nigredo. After his awakening, he takes control of the Salvator faction in parliament as well as military forces, and moves to secure the Zohar.
He obtains the power he so desires when he merges with Omega, piloted by Abel and powered by the Original Zohar. However, Albedo interferes and, using the power of the Testament, attempts to perish along with Yuriev. At the last moment, Nigredo takes his place and is annihilated together with Yuriev.
Xenogears reference: The concept of Yuriev being reborn through Nigredo is similar to Xenogears' Miang being reborn in any possible female lifeform. Just like Nigredo's hair turns to that of Yuriev's color, does the hair of Miang's chosen host turn to her own color as well.
Doctus

An agent of the underground organisation Scientia. She carries her missions out in a calm and collected manner. Her body is a remote control-type android, controlled by the real Doctus by projecting her consciousness into its artificial brain to manipulate the body. Her real location is top secret information and is only known by a select few of the higher-ups within Scientia. Also, she often speaks in Latin.
Donald Marquand
Temporary Representative to the planet Abraxas Archon Zone during the late TC 4600s. He assembled a group of children who had inherited the bloodline of the Immigrant Fleet, which was under Abraxas' galactic jurisdiction, to form the Goodwill Ambassadorship. He held an amnesty summit to bring the Immigrant Fleet and Galaxy Federation together. However, this event had been targeted by Voyager.
He ultimately resigned as the result of the investigation into his responsibility in the Ambassador Lock-Up Incident (incident in TC 4667 in which the Galaxy Federation Goodwill Ambassadors were killed by Voyager within a virtual space, constructed within the UMN).
Erich Weber
Voyager's true name, back in the time when he was still human (see Voyager). His official occupation was as a police officer; his role was to provide external support as an operator to members diving into virtual space through the UMN. In addition, one of his major responsibilities was to operate the support robot.
Ernest Luis
He was appointed Chief of the 1875th Special Ops Command in place of Chief Sean McCallum after McCallum's capture, which had been orchestrated by Yuriev. He follows the rules strictly and is absolute in obeying to superiors' orders. When McCallum was captured, he had been ordered to arrest the Abraxas Detachment.
Febronia

One of the special transgenic type of Realians designed by Joachim Mizrahi for the Zohar connection experiments, as part of the U-TIC Organisation's Zohar control project. In addition, three others were created from her body; Cecilia, Catherine, and Almadel.
She met Shion as a child during the Miltian Conflict, and looked after her in place of Shion's hospitalised mother. Later, she also met Luis Virgil, who had been wounded in battle. In order to save his life, she transplanted a portion of her own body tissue. For a short while after that, she and Virgil rendezvoused frequently, stimulating their love.
However, when the combat Realians went out of control upon the activation of the Song of Nephilim, she shielded Shion and Virgil from danger, and was brutally killed before their eyes.
Gaignun Kukai

URTV #669. Another URTV created by Dmitri Yuriev. This variant possesses the name Nigredo (pitch black). He killed Yuriev in the past (see Nigredo for more info). Presently hiding his identity as a URTV, he fills the role of Representative Trustee for the Kukai Foundation, along with Jr. With a calm personality, he shoulders the trust and expectations of the Foundation members and holds powerful political influence. He possesses the power to control thoughts of others and the power of hypnotic suggestion, using his voice as a medium.
While Jr. can be considered the practical controlling force behind the Kukai Foundation, it can be said that Gaignun is the political force. It's through the combined efforts of both of themthat the Kukai Foundation's continued existence is made possible. Without either, it would fail. After the Miltian Conflict, Gaignun was taken in by Helmer and inherited the name of Zoze Kukai upon the establishment of the Foundation ("Zoze Kukai" is the name of a fictitious industrialist invented by the Second Miltian government in order to pool special activities capital).
Unlike the other URTVs, Gaignun was not programmed to react to U-DO waveforms. His true role is to act as a failsafe in the event that a powerful variant went out of control; more specifically, the elimination of Jr. Furthermore, Dmitri Yuriev planned to extend his own life by transplanting his psyche into Gaignun, due to Gaignun's special powers. After his body was taken over by Yuriev, Gaignun was forced to work towards Yuriev's goals, regardless of his own will.
During the final confrontation with Yuriev, Gaignun -despite still being under Yuriev's influence- realises Albedo's true desire; to be rid of both Gaignun and Yuriev. So he makes this a reality by forcing Albedo's consciousness into Jr.'s body, so he could annihilate himself along with Yuriev.
Grimoire Verum
Former Chief of Vector's Zohar Research Department. He was the one responsible for causing the Zohar to go out of control thousands of years ago, effectively destroying Lost Jerusalem. Six months ago, he brought about the Gnosis terrorism. He went into hiding within the UMN, while sending Gnosis under his control to attack capital cities of various planets. Ultimately, he died within the UMN.
Many details behind the Gnosis terrorism were lost with Grimoire's death, such as his motive and goal, but one source suggests that he shared a deep connection with the girl known as Nephilim, and that the Gnosis terrorism was in fact part of a search for her.
Hammer

Navigator of the Elsa. As teenage hacker he made a move on a certain criminal organisation's database, and became targeted for retribution as a result. However, he was saved by Matthews. He's also the childhood friend of Tony, the helmsman.
Even though his navigational skills are top-class, people often assume he's just a clown, perhaps because of his levity. His flippant remarks often anger Matthews, which can be considered part of the bond they share. Although curious of nature, and often trying to get involved in everything, he's also timid and quick to back out of whatever he's gotten himself into.
