Seems none of the links work for me. =/
Mushroom
Some cool stuff there I haven't seen befoe man. PArticularly the summons. Ifrit looks freakin evil, and if thats what it was, Carbuncle looks absolutely awesome haha. Versus XIII has a crazy look, with the swords and then cars haha, reminds me of VIII. Anyway good stuff, I can't wait to play these games.
Athrun
The links work now. Yah, that's Carbuncle. And the brownhaired girl in Versus looks a bit like Aeris to me.
Anyway here are some new scans.

Final Fantasy XIII

Final Fantasy Versus XIII

Both XIII and Versus are starting to look really good. The brownhaired girl in the second Versus scan looks like she has the same kind of symbol appearing behind her as the other character, but a different color. I wonder if the redhaired girl in the FF 13 scan could be the main character? (I thought they said that Lightning wouldn't be the main character?)
Manc
It looks so neat, and I agree it does remind of FFVIII.

and if it does, I will really rejoice.

and I get a little feeling of FFX... or is it just me?
Nash
Which among those shots are from the battle system?
Athrun
We don't know about Versus, but for XIII they showed the battle system in trailers. (You'll notice the battle menu and attack damage showing up on enemies.) But the finished game may use a different battle system. They said they wanted to try and make XIII play as if you're "playing Advent Children", whatever that means.

About 00:48 seconds into this trailer.
Mushroom
Update on IGN about XIII today, and it sounds like the information was translated from those scans.

QUOTE
The slow trickle of Final Fantasy XIII information continued in this week's Famitsu with a huge blowout that, when scrutinized, really offered just a couple of new details on the PS3's biggest Japanese title yet.

In the feature, we're reintroduced to everything we know about the main entry in the FFXIII franchise. We've already heard about Cocoon, a floating colony world created by crystals. Cocoon protects its millions of citizens through technology and mechanization. It contrasts with Pulse, the natural world which lay below it. The residents of Cocoon fear Pulse.

Regarding these two conflicting worlds, Famitsu reveals that Pulse, while not mechanized like Cocoon, has crystals itself, although their role is unclear. The magazine also reveals what appears to be a resident of Pulse, a pigtailed young woman whose name we've yet to learn. This girl was first introduced in the latest installment of the slowly expanding FFXIII trailer, which was shown at the Jump Festa event late last year.

A CG scene in the magazine's screen shots shows pigtail girl standing on a cliff looking out over a distant landscape of Pulse. Below her, large, tusked dinosaur-like creatures herd through a river valley. Above her in the distance, looking somewhat like a moon, Cocoon floats in the cloudy daylight sky.

The magazine also makes first mention of two types of creatures in the FFXIII world: Farsi and Lusi. The Farsi are supernatural beings who built Cocoon. Their relationship with the crystals is unclear. The Lusi are people who were chosen to carry out particular orders from the Farsi. The exact details of those orders are also being kept a secret for now.

Famitsu speculates that the previously introduced main character, Lightening, is a Lusi, as she has been chosen by the crystals as "the enemy of humanity who will bring about the downfall of the world." Incidentally, Lightening is not her real name, meaning we still don't know the names of any of the FFXIII characters. The magazine also speculates that pigtail girl and the male character who sports a bandanna in previous trailers are also Lusi.

Past trailers have introduced us to one summon, a version of Shiva which transforms into a motorcycle. The latest Jump trailer, and week's Famitsu as well, offered a first look at Ifreet and Carbuncle, the latter being a cute creature that should be familiar to Final Fantasy series veterans. The trailer showed Carbuncle emerge from a large laserdisc-like disc when the pig-tailed girl took the disc in her hands. It's unclear if these two new summons will, like Shiva, transform into vehicles.

Summons appear to have a major role in the game. They will be used outside of battle and as part of the story, as shown in the bike transformation sequence from past trailers, where Shiva comes to the assistance of bandanna guy.

The article closed off with the promise of a first real look at Final Fantasy XIII running off the PlayStation 3 sometime later this year. Looks like the trickle will become a flood shortly that will hopefully contain actual character names so that we can stop saying bandanna guy and pigtail girl.

Some nice story information there about the world outside the cocoon, and on the summons that we had speculated about. I love me some Carbuncle so its nice to see him back again. The end sounds promising as well, hopefully they meant we'll see the game actually running as in playable, but I still think the most we'll get is more videos, no demo or anything. This game is gonig to be out next year, no way this year.

Sel's FFXIII & FFvXIII Hype Level +1!

You guys missed one summon, there's Siren too with her irresistible voice. ^^ They are bringing back the old summons! xD

The new stuff from Versus just makes it all the more interesting. I can't wait for more updates! ^^
The Evil Dead
You know I haven't been excited about FF for awhile but the more screens I see the more giddy I get.

Like little schoolgirl.

I really, really hope it's a badass FF and not a ##### lamer. I mean it looks beautiful, but the gameplay is what's going to sell it for me. If it ends up like FF8 or 9 I'll be bitter as hell.

Theferrell
Oh my CRAP!!!!! That's beautiful. Too bad I won't get my hands on a PS3 until that probably is on the best seller list and they're talking about FF20 tongue.gif

Ya, graphics are amazing, play looks a lot like FFXII. and if those are the actual IN GAME graphics I might just break off my engagement with my Fiance and marry FFXIII tongue.gif
Bloo
Heh, old summons is comfirmed to return, such as ifrit carbuncle and siren. Hopefully the others like, Alexander, leviathan will be back too.

According to wikipedia and ff-xiii.net

Shiva was said to be not just "pure ice" now, she is said to be supporting more elements this time.
The summons will appear in "digital form" which I think it means into machines like shiva into a bike.

Battle system sounds like it will be ATB(active time battle) + ADB(active dimension battle), enemies will be determined by where you move i suppose. Looks like "overdrive/limitbreaks" would be replaced this time too. By a overclocked system. This time, the environment takes place too. which is a good thing, I wonder if shiva does Diamond dust, would the whole battle ground changes to a frozen field. That would be sweet.

Can't wait to call dan to play it for me =p.

hopefully everything would turn out great haha..

Final Fantasy XIII demo planned this year

Source CVG
QUOTE
Square Enix promises that "2008 will be the year" for new info (and maybe the release?) of the latest in its epic RPG series, Final Fantasy XIII, as it reveals plans to release a demo.

Not even a rough date was given for the demo, only that it main objective will be to give fans a hands-on with the new battle system.

The only hint of the full game's release was the quote: "I wonder when we'll be able to sleep...". Eh? We plan to have a kip tonight - is that when it's coming out?

Because we know you FF fans are keen on the smallest of details, here's a few more tid-bits plucked from the translations of the Japanese mags, courtesy of FF-XIII.net.

-Nomura: "2008 will be the year. There will be tons of news bits, info on characters and summons, and an unexpected connection between the keywords Cocoon and Farushi.
- We're aiming for a demo to give players a hands on on the battle system.
- FF13's theme: determination.
- Farushi: Their existence surpasses humans.
- Rushi: Those chosen by Farushi to carry out a mission. The pigtail girl is a Rushi. Farushi is not the Crystal.
- Mr. 33cm is also a Rushi.
- This time summons are in digital form.
- A new monster that looks like a cross between a turtle and elephant.
- The red thing on Carbuncle's head is a ruby.
- Hint on release date: "I wonder when we'll be able to sleep..."

My personal opinion is if they are only announcing a demo this year then I doubt we'll be seeing the full game until next year, but we'll soon see and only time will tell.
Xanadu
Sorry to burst your bubbles with the most nooby question of the year but I'm still not sure about the difference between FF XIII and FF VS XIII - is it like the same story told from different standpoints?
Flame
I think it's two different stories told from the same world and most likely connected in some way... the truth is, we don't know enough about either to say too much.

Maaan.... those characters all look so similar... it's like seeing screens for Advent Children again. One of the characters looks exactly as Reno except short hair and a flick at the front. Well, already I'm more hyped about this then I ever was about FFXII, but I'm still not that excited. I'm pretty certain this is the final fantasy we've all been waiting for, but then again most thought that about FFXII. I hope this time all the characters are really integrated into the storyline. Moving away from politics would also be a good idea in my opinion.

I'm in two minds... do I keep up to date with FFXIII... or just enjoy the whole experience when it comes out? Personally, I find that keeping up to date with a game you REALLY want can spoil that actual gameplay experience a little.
Manc
There's another way you can think Flame: Don't keep up date on it and expect it to be worst FF in history (even if I don't think it's possible to be worse then FFXII happy.gif ) then it doesn't matter how good or bad it is. you expectations are so low then everything is somewhere between decent-good!

of course there is limitations, if the game is just simply bad there is nothing more to it!

Not sure if anybody has heard this yet, but these statements are news to me while I was reading thru Wiki:

QUOTE
A possible fourth title, Final Fantasy Haeresis XIII may be in the works, which was trademarked on May 1, 2006. (Haeresis is Greek for "the act of thinking differently" and is the derivative of the word "heresy.") A 'logo' for Haeresis, done by Yoshitaka Amano, the image illustrator and title logo designer for Fabula Nova Crystallis, has now been published, although no additional artwork pertaining to the title has been officially released as of yet.

I heard rumor of a 4th sometime a while ago, but never actualyl anything confirmed by Square about it.

QUOTE
Square Enix president Yōichi Wada likened the Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation to that of the likes of Star Wars and has stated that it could span a decade.[3] Toriyama stated in the Playstation Magazine Australia that the Fabula Nova Crystallis series is slated to be a multi-platform series, not exclusive only to the PlayStation 3 and mobile phones

It'd be weird to see it as a multi-platform series, but I like the idea.

QUOTE
At E3 2006, Square Enix called the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, which at this moment includes 6 games, 1 film, 1 OVA and 2 novels, a "50 billion yen project" (roughly 420 million USD) and said it would span until the 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII (2017). In turn, they called the new Fabula Nova Crystallis project a "100 billion yen project" (roughly 840 million USD) which gives the impression that Fabula Nova Crystallis would span quite a number of years and include many more titles, possibly including films, books, anime, manga, toys, etc

I like the idea. Final Fantasy has always been independant game after independant game with no story/character relation to the last. THat was cool and all, but sometimes I like the related games as well, becuase there can be more background and more info to it (Xenosaga, Suikoden, .hack, FF7 Compilation etc).

Rumour: FFXIII for December in Japan

June 20th, 2008 @ 07:19

According to this NeoGaf post, which apparently comes from “an EA employee”, Final Fantasy XIII is wending its merry way towards a December release in Japan.

The poster claims that the game won’t release simultaneously worldwide, instead heading to Europe and the States in 2009.

Make of it what you will.

According to Wonderallweb.com, Square Enix have announced their E3 lineup this year which, of course, does not include Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII or Final Fantasy Agito XIII. Disappointing to say the least as this will be the 2nd year since it's announcement that Square have chosen not to show anything at E3 to the public.

Their lineup is as follows:

Playstation 3 / Xbox 360:

The Last Remnant

Xbox 360:

INFINITE UNDISCOVERY
STAR OCEAN: THE LAST HOPE

Nintendo DS:

CHRONO TRIGGER
DRAGON QUEST: Chapters of the Chosen
FINAL FANTASY IV

Playstation Portable (PSP):

STAR OCEAN: FIRST DEPARTURE
STAR OCEAN: SECOND EVOLUTION

DUDE seriously? NOTHING of ANYTHING at E3???? 2 years in a row??? The games must be pretty close to finished they could at LEAST send some viral, cryptic, marketing message to us or something. I'm stunned that they haven't hyped this up tenfold especailly since it's supposed to be 3 games of MANY of an EPIC Final Fantasy that's supposed to last 10 years. I mean, cmon.

FFXIII demo to be packaged with Blu-ray Advent Children

The Square Enix party is underway, and what possible megaton news could come out of it? Oh, how about a Final Fantasy XIII demo? Yeah, that might be megaton enough. Just maybe. We guess that would be something meaningful to you PS3 owners, seeing as it is a demo on the Blu-ray version of Advent Children, which seems to scream PS3-exclusive.

Advent Children Complete will not only include an FFXIII demo, but also new trailers and possibly info on other Fabula Nova Crystallis titles such as Versus XIII and the mobile game Agito. Advent Children Complete is expected to hit Japan in March 2009, but it's not entirely clear if other regions will get the exact same treatment. So, are you still bitter over lost exclusivity?

Final Fantasy Agito XIII heading to PSP

Was this the "major announcement" Square Enix referred to? NeoGAF tells us that earlier today in the private press event DKΣ3713, it was unveiled that Final Fantasy Agito XIII will be heading to the PSP in addition to cell phones. The title is part of Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII which also includes Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. No release date has been announced.

Edit: Speaking of that "final release date" I mentioned earlier...

QUOTE (PS3 Fanboy)
Final Fantasy XIII confirmed for a 2009 Japanese release

In addition to a demo, it was announced that Final Fantasy XIII will be arriving in Japan in 2009. Keep in mind the PS3 version is the only version of FFXIII in Japan. According to Square Enix at E3, at the completion of the Japanese version, Square Enix will then begin localization of the game for the US and porting to the Xbox 360. It will receive a simultaneous release on both systems here in the US.

The official site has also launched, with nothing more than a trailer we saw already. Hopefully we'll see some updates in the coming days.

Agito XIII on PSP!!! Omfg! *adds to list of games to buy for PSP* A good solid reason to why I should be getting my own PSP. =3

I'm not surprised that FFXIII will be out in 2009, but the bigger question is which period of 2009? If it's like last quarter, then that's a downer.

'FFXIII demo to be packaged with Blu-ray Advent Children'. Isn't that more like a "Please buy the Blu-ray AC because it has nice goodies"? What a marketing technique to boost the sales of a CG animation movie which many have already watched or own.
Phisix
Yeah, but its a playable demo of Final Fantasy XIII, people will buy it. A 2009 release date in Japan? Bah, that means the UK version will not be around until 2010.

* The FFXIII demo disc included with FFVIIACC (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete) will be a PS3 disc, it's not on a standard Blu-Ray movie disc.

* The FFXIII demo will be from the opening part of the game, and will be longer than FFVIIAC (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children). *Note, Advent Children was 101 minutes long, that's one beefy demo!*

* FFXIII will definitely have a party battle system where you control each character as they switch turns, like in a normal Final Fantasy. It will not be like FFXII.

* FFXIII's story is being written such that every single one of the main characters will feel like protagonists instead of just supporting characters.

Here are some new images of Square Enix's PS3 RPG Final Fantasy Versus XIII, in the game people worships Shinigami [God of Death], and the character is designed by Amano. The car and costume designs seen in the trailers will probably be altered in the final game. A new female character is revealed. The name of the prince and the heroine in Versus XIII will be revealed at TGS

I like this dark theme it seems to have going. Versus XIII looks better and better the more I see of it.
And I like the fact that the XIII demo will be long.

As if I wasn't sold on this already, but those two statements right there pushed this game further up my anticipation list. Don't get me wrong I liked FFXII battle system once I got to grips with it but I much preferred the original style. The biggest selling point for me though is the second statement as in this is going to have some real development for each character.

Final Fantasy Agito XIII Update
Square Enix hints that infrastructure support could be on the way.
by John Tanaka

August 18, 2008 - Word of a PSP version of Final Fantasy Agito XIII was one of the biggest pieces of news to come out of the DKS3713 event earlier this month. But unfortunately, the news of the platform shift came without any solid details on the game.

Enter that always-reliable source of Japanese news, Famitsu. A special PS3 version of the weekly gaming magazine has a full report on the show, with some new details that suggest Agito will result in yet another very special Square Enix PSP title.

Speaking with Square Enix's Tetsuyo Nomura and Agito director Hajime Tabata, Famitsu's editors learned that a PSP version of the game was always in the planning, right from the start. The announcement at the event was really just an announcement that the PSP version has taken priority over the mobile version.

The two addressed a few story elements of the game. The DKS3713 Agito trailer (which is currently not available for public viewing) made mention of "Lucy," a word that has been mentioned in connection with other areas of the FFXIII project. As explained by Nomura, this is one of the common points players will find connecting the worlds of the various FFXIII games.

Another term mentioned in the new trailer is PAX CODEX. This is the name of a peace treaty that exists in the Agito world. As Tabata explained, Cid, from a neighboring country, has broken the treaty and sent a Lucy (or possibly multiple Lucies) out in an invasion.

Tabata revealed that the Agito battle system will offer a mix of action and turn-based gameplay, similar to Crisis Core. He suggested that players picture a more developed version of the "super-high-speed ATB" (Active Time Battle) system from Crisis Core.

Different from Crisis Core, whose battles were solo-based, Agito has party-based battles. This, Nomura said to the magazine, gives the battles a different impression.

The party-based battles currently support infrastructure mode, Tabata revealed. Three players can currently form a party over the net. Tabata said that he cannot confirm yet if the final game will have infrastructure mode support, but this is something that Square Enix would like to offer players.

One other area of the battle system mentioned by Tabata involves summons. Plans call for giving players the ability to raise summon beasts and control them in battle.

All this sounds like the makings for a fine addition to the FFXIII saga. Best of all, players throughout the world will get a chance to play now that the title is coming to the PSP.

Not just that, but there will literally be "no main character." I guess we'll be playing through multiple perspectives. (Trinity Sight System from Suikoden III, anyone?)

QUOTE
Toriyama clarified a bit about how FFXIII handles its characters. There's no actual "main character" in the game. Players will experience the story from the perspective of multiple characters, something that he refers to as being a "new style." The demo will offer a glimpse at this new type of storytelling system. He considers players sampling the new system to be a major point for the demo.

EDIT and a translated interview regarding FF VS XIII no doubt with some words at the bottom which will please PS3 owners smile.gif

QUOTE ('finalfantasy-xiii.net')
There is a scene whereby the female lead (Skirt girl) looks at the painting. Is the painting important?
Nomura: The painting is something I wanted to include in the game. The scene is actually longer. After this scene, the 2 characters (Prince and Skirtgirl) will start their conversation. And they will disclose their names.

Will there be voices in the new trailer at TGS?

Nomura: We havent decide on the voice actor, therefore we will subtitle it instead. IF possible, we will use this way to screen the trailer at TGS.

Skirtgirl is the main female character? Is she the one who fought with the prince previously?
Nomura: Yes she is the main female character. If people have seen my work before, they will know that there is few description on the female characters. She is the first female character that will stand out from all previous Final Fantasy's.

Does that mean she is a rebel from the enemy side? Is she a very capable lady?
Nomura: I cant answer this in detail yet. But she is a very ladylike character. Not the humble type, more of a character that moves according to her beliefs.

The male characters that were disclosed previously, are they friends of prince?
Nomura: Yes. They are the side characters that move along with the prince. Always together type.

Will they appear right from the start of the game?

Nomura: Yes. They are the side characters that appear right at the start.

What sparked the co-operation with Roen?

Nomura: I notice that the western suit is not easy to design because of all the meticulous details. It is time consuming. We dont have so much time since we are developing both FF13 and FFv13 at the same time. As FFv13 design is based on reality, I decides to find a Fashion design company to do the outfit design.

Will there be many outfits for FFv13?

Nomura: The design of the outfit is still ongoing. The outfit disclosed in the new screenshots are already available from Roen.

Since this game is base on reality. What does it feel like to play?

Nomura: The characters live in a world based on Shinjuku (A district in Tokyo) But the appearance of the world is based on Italy. There will also be a lot of natural scenary in this game. FFv13 will have the usual feel of a Final Fantasy game. It feels like I am creating the FF7. The team im working with includes many members from the KH, FF7 and FF8 teams.

The fighting gameplay will be similar to KH?
Nomura: Even though it is base on KH, there will still be a different fighting system. And since this is a final fantasy game, the side characters are playable too.

[Playstation 3 Only World wide] appears at the end of the trailer

Nomura: As the director of FFv13, i have already stated that this game is [Playstation 3 Only World wide].

Pretty much "ditto" to the above comment.

Many bits revealed in that interview sound good to me. I've been trusting Nomura's team to do a good -- if not great -- job with this, and so far, it's sounding like that trust was indeed well placed.

We're starting to get some news from the Tokyo Game Show. Whether it's reliable or not is another question. ameblo.jp is reporting that they have the names of some of the Final Fantasy XIII characters and Final Fantasy Versus XIII characters. I couldn't quite understand it earlier and neither could half the people on 2chan but duckroll from Neogaf has given us a translation.

Akeno Watanabe, a well known voice actor for both Anime and Video Games in Japan "may" be voicing Lightning.
The Pigtails Girl might be named either Sarah or Senon.
The Prince in Versus is named Noctis (latin for night...unsurprising)
The Skirt Girl is named Stella.
Exire
Thanks for the links but I probably won't be happy until I can check out a hands on impression, even if its still going through the experimental stage. Hopefully not too much story leaks out like it ended up doing a bit with FFXII. I usually avoid news on the story and even characters to a degree. I like to have basically a new and fresh look at a game without already knowing details before the game is even released. Interesting names, but sometimes you can't be totally sure if they'll be altered somewhat for when the game is released to the english countries.
Theferrell
Ya, I'm really liking what I've seen so far. I'm glad they are going back to the original party system, although I liked XII's system a lot. XII and Versus will be the first two games I get when I FINALLY get a PS3 smile.gif
