Pesmerga
I was thinking that this could work, as well as bring back some activity to this forum, though it will probably not, considering the activity.
Anyway, here is the deal.

- I will post a short fragment (about 10 seconds), from one of the Suikoden soundtracks. It can be any soundtrack, as long as it is from the main series, so that would be Suikoden I to V. I will not include Rhapsodia, Gaiden or the card game.
- The pace will be quick. I will post a new song within 3 days that the previous song has been guessed, so keep an eye on this topic, the day and time can vary.
- The total amount of clips that will be used is a number of 20 songs and each song will be worth 2 points. One point will be given for the song and one point for the game. If a song hasn't been guessed within a week, no points will be given.
- The points will be divided quite simple. You get 1 point for guessing the song and 1 for guessing the game. However, if you guess the song, but not the game, other people have the chance to snatch the point, by getting the game correct.
This means that you'll have to keep your eyes open, because you always have a chance to snatch a point, if someone else fails to get it right.
- You can only guess once per post, this means that spamming 4 different songs won't be counted. Also spamming 4 different posts with 4 different songs won't be counted.

- Important note, as I got asked by two people who weren't entirely sure. It is obvious that names of the titles work better, but what happens if you don't know the title? It is quite simple. Just give me the exact moment as to when this song plays. Say, for example it is a theme of a certain town, all you have to do is to tell me the name of the town this song plays in and I know enough. If this is a song from a particular scene inside that town, then tell me it is from that scene.
Of course there are also people that aren't well known in the songs inside the Suikoden games, this is not a problem.
I am not someone who expects you to know all songs by hart, I don't even do that myself. So feel free to use external resources, such as browsing through your collection, or downloading songs from the internet, usually the sites have the correct names for the songs, as they're uploaded by fans.

Be aware of these rules!

To keep things clean and tidy, I will keep up the score in the first post, as well as a list of songs for reference.
Also, the first couple of songs will be easier than the last few, this to keep the competition going.

Anyway, here is the first song: Click

Chalryn
"Gothic Neclord" - Miki Higashino - Suikoden II
I'll throw in the composer(s), just for good measure. =P

Shame to not see Rhapsodia, though. I rather like the soundtrack for that one, myself. Oh well.
I'll definitely keep my eye on this thread.
Athrun
About guessing the song, is it allright if someone says "when you fight Neclord" rather than the name the song has on the OST? I was thinking that some people might not be knowledgeble of the names on the soundtrack, and those who have them might just have to check to make sure, and that would ruin the fun in guessing (if you're listening to the OST to find it) if you know what I mean?
Bloo
Gothic Neclord SII(I know i'm slow) =|

Pes, you need a more challenging song haha. GN is like... A legend in suiko music or something haha.

Hope to hear more soon.

Thanks Dan for typing this post for me.

Lance.

I'd rather have people name the song title, only if you can give me a detailed discription when the song plays I will consider it correct.
So, if I select Fugue, Praise To Be My Master I'd rather have you say that, then Neclord's theme, because he has 3 songs. So, if you don't know the title, try to give a detailed discription, so that I will understand what song you mean.
If you do so, I can't see any problems.

Yeah, you're a bit late there, lol. Also, I mentioned in the rules in the beginning that the first couple of songs will be easy and it will get harder everytime.

Anyway, points will go to Chalryn =).
Athrun
Well I know a lot of music from the games, but I know very few names as they are listed on the OST's. Even if I looked at a list of the tracks it's doubtful I'd know which one of the names goes with the song. So I'd probably have to use descriptions on most.
Pesmerga
Well, as long as you give me an accurate description, I don't see any problem. So no things, such as 'town music' =P.

Anyway, here is the second song Clicky
Athrun
Well this one I know the name of. Exceeding Love. Suikoden 3 Intro.

One thing you could do as an alternative to downloading is making a clip with movie maker using a still picture rather than a movie clip, and add the music and then upload it on youtube. But downloading works fine for me either way, just a mention in case some have a problem for whatever reason.
Pesmerga
Heh, this might have been too easy. No worries though, it'll get harder soon enough =P.

I could do that, but it would mean I have to have 20 clips on a youtube account with only 10 secs of music and a picture, lol.
Also, it takes longer to put things on Youtube, than that it takes to put it on yousendit.
If people have problems downloading the clips, feel free to say so, I will try that solution as well, just be aware of the fact that once I uploaded it onto Youtube, it takes some time for the server to actually acknowledge it.

Anyway, 2 points for Hiku.
Pesmerga
Well, it is time for a third song.

Chalryn
"Wind of Phantom" - Suikoden V
Edit: Yuji Toriyama -- composer
Pesmerga
You got that one pretty quick, lol.
Well, that is 2 points for you.
I think I have to raise the level a bit, because this is going too easy.
Chalryn

I think I have to raise the level a bit, because this is going too easy.

Maybe try something other than opening themes? Haha. (And battle themes, referring to the first clip.) Things like town and dungeon themes would probably be ideal for a higher difficulty. And just themes for specific situations.

And yes, I had to make up losing that one to Atty, lol. Should be on more tomorrow, so I'm planning on being active in this. laugh.gif
Pesmerga
Well, yeah that was what I was ultimately going for. As I said, the first couple are easier, to get the thing started.
No worries, I will pick some really difficult ones in the end.
For now, I'll raise the level a bit.
Dragon Brigade
Somehow I’ve felt this is a lame question, but I suppose I should ask this now before it gets too late, noobish question or not...>.> I think this might have been what Athrun was sort of saying, about not knowing the track names...

So if, say, someone has not really played many Suikoden games (or finished any), but has an interest in partaking of this music game, can we use outside “help”? Basically, since people who’ve played the games might need to look at an OST box for a track name after listening through them to find the song, can someone who hasn’t played the series go track digging on sites (which would be virtually the same but harder since I would have to look through five games) and then submit the answer in this thread? Or would that be considered as cheating, haha...

Again, sorry if this was a rather silly question that I thought I’d ask and make sure it wouldn’t be cheating or anything before I embarked upon my Suiko track digging...It seems like it could be, which is why I ask, but at the same time it would basically be like looking at the OST box to find the track name and whatnot...>.>
Pesmerga
Of course, I don't expect anyone to know the entire soundtrack from the top of their mind.
Heck, if I would participate in such a thing, I'd probably had to search through my list of soundtracks as well, so feel free to search on the internet.

Edit: I'll add this in the first post, just in case. Thanks for asking though.
Athrun
Well personally I'll only answer to tracks that I recognise and think I know the name of or can describe. Because otherwise this would basically be about who can look through the OST's first, find the song, and then post the track name.
Since everyone isn't online at the same time, that probably doesn't even say much of how fast you are of doing that. So I'll rather go with my memory, but people can play the way they like. For those who haven't played many Sui games it would be hard to participate if you don't listen to the OST's I imagine.
Pesmerga
Well, considering the total amount of songs on all of the soundtracks are an amazing number (300+), it is quite difficult to find a particular song, especially when the clip I put online is only 10 seconds long and there are several remixes of particular songs.
I obviously made this for people that have played the Suikoden games, if I wanted everyone else to participate, I wouldn't have posted it here, but in the trivia & games forum.

Chalryn
Bah. I know it's from the first game, and it's a minigame theme, but that's it. Even if I wanted to look this one up, the first game's the one soundtrack I don't have access to in its entirety. Lol.

So, I'll just go with the game: Suikoden (first)

For the minigame, I'll just have to wing it: that cup-swapping game (first seen in Rockland, I think?). </guess>

This sounds damn familiar, though, so I can't help but feel like I got something wrong. >.<
Pesmerga
Nope, can't give you any points =P.

Sucks to be you. Check out my playlist. =p

But I don't know this song, and I'm not going to look for it so I'll let someone else answer instead.
Chalryn
Bah. Figured as much. Very well.
Pesmerga
Lol, already problems? I didn't think this would be that difficult, lol.
Good luck browsing through your soundtracks x'D.
Chalryn
Honestly, when I first heard it, I thought, "Pes, you cruel bastard." Haha.
The series has so many themes that sound like that one. The only thing I recognized about it was that it was a minigame theme (or maybe not... I'll see when it's solved). After looking through the soundtracks, it actually sounded like... well, it hasn't been solved yet, so I won't say. Anyway, to this moment, it seems like it could be from pretty much any of the games, hah.
Pesmerga
Mwahahahaha x´D
Chalryn
AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, DAMNIT!
I figured it out this time.

...Seeing as this thread's kinda come to a stand-still, could I answer anyway, despite already wrongly guessing? I don't even care if I don't get the points. I don't wanna see this thread die.
Pesmerga
Lol, of course you can still answer. The song stays up for a week and the week isn't over yet.
Chalryn
...Oh, huh. Didn't realize that. Anyway, I thought you said something about not being able to guess more than once (aside from in a single post), so I wasn't sure.

Anyway, the mouse-hunting minigame from Suikoden IV.
Pesmerga
You got this one =).
Pesmerga
Clicky
Well, this is the next one.
Athrun
Well it's Suikoden V. Trying to figure out where it is played.
Pesmerga
Well, I assume you haven't found it yet, quite logical as it is not Suikoden V =).
Pesmerga
Well, nobody got this one, it is Suikoden I - Theme of the Advancing Army. I'll upload one soon.
Pesmerga
And here is the next song. Clicky
Chalryn
"The Time for Confrontation" - Suikoden II

('Case you know it as something else, the dueling theme.)
Pesmerga
Correct! I'll make a new one soon. =)
Chalryn
I almost put "The Chase" for that, but couldn't quite put the two together. Definitely similar sounds, though, which made it a bit tricky. Nice pick.

Shame you never really have a duel that lasts long enough to listen to the whole track. XD
Bloo
OHHHHHHHHH............... >_< NOooooooo wonderrrrrrrrrrrrr

He is REALLY evil enough to change his nick to _Yuber_ >_<

Lance.
Pesmerga
Well, here is the new song =):

Click
Chalryn
Suikoden V. Pretty sure it's just called "The Queens' Knights."
I really dig the version on the limited edition soundtrack.
Pesmerga
Goddammit, stop getting all the songs, haha x'D.
Chalryn
Think I mentioned it before, but if you use more tracks from the first game I'll be much less likely to get 'em. Haha.
Pesmerga
Click For Number 08 =D

Good luck!
Chalryn
One from the first Suikoden that I think I actually recognize. I know the actual name, but just for the sake of checking my memory, I wanna see if I can get the placement of the theme... It's the theme for the Dragon's Den, or whatever it's called, right? The place where you find the Dragon Knights?
Pesmerga
You're a bit vague, please specify your answer, lol.
Chalryn
Bah. Fine. "An Old Irish Song."
Pesmerga
Dammit, even Suikoden I songs you get. =P
Dragon Brigade
Curses D=. If I had checked here sooner, that was probably one I could have gotten. I “obtained” most of Suikoden I’s tracks a while back, so I’m familiar with a few of them. Oh well. I’ll check earlier next time, haha.
Chalryn

Dammit, even Suikoden I songs you get. =P

Depends which you use. That particular track I'm a little more familiar with, just 'cause the title has drawn my attention a bit in the past, being Irish myself. =P And I know to link it with the Dragon Knights, though since it's been a while since the one time I played the first game, I just can't remember exactly where it's played. I think I remember it on the outside of the Dragons' Den (I think that's what it's called), where that guard doesn't let you in, and you have to sneak in from some other entrance.

Otherwise, I only have access to a portion of the first OST, on top of having only played the first game once, so I'm not as familiar with most of it.
Pesmerga
Well, in your previous post you mentioned like 3 different places, so hence I was asking for clarification.
I thought it was played in Dragon Fortress, though not sure.
Anyway, YOU... IRISH!? I think that explains the ginger hair >_o. Are you also arsey about how Americans pronounce English words diffirent? Say, aluminum and tin =P.
