This has got to be some of the biggest ####### I've ever heard. While sure, they can work on a version for either system that would take full advantage of the hardware ( As Epic did with UT3 for the PS3, and will be doing for the 360... Optimizing for each system ) or just be lazy and make a version that works on both consoles ( Hence why you don't see a lot of difference in a lot of PS3/360 titles ) but saying " Oh dur we can't put it on the PS3 " is total shite.

I don't really care. I Don't like Splinter Cell myself. I just thought this was hilarious.

Ubisoft says: Splinter Cell Conviction couldn't be on PS3?

Posted May 7th 2007 6:30PM by Nick Doerr

Someone's cooking up some flamebait, right? Wrong. This is just an interesting, confusing interview with Ubisoft about the newest Splinter Cell (which seems to have turned into a yearly franchise). The game, subtitled Conviction, is headed exclusively to the XBox 360. That's all well and good, but why did they need to talk about the PS3?

What did they say, actually? They claimed that since they're an exclusive now, they can work a lot harder on the 360's hardware and pull out some tricks they wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. They said regardless, they wouldn't have been able to do these things even if they were exclusive to the PlayStation 3. Well... maybe, but they did a pretty crappy port of Double Agent, so we're not about to agree. Just because you don't understand the tools available doesn't mean it isn't possible to build a masterpiece. Thoughts?

Playstation 3 sucks, that's why.

HI UBISOFT I ARE MICROSOFT PLZ CASH THIS CHECK. THX.

Its a good thing PS3 is getting a quality stealth-action title like MGS4, otherwise I might be upset that 360 is getting an over the hill series like Splinter Cell (sarcasm of course, but don't call me a fanboy, I own a 360 as well as a PS3 and even have more games on the 360 as well as play it more often than my PS3).
AlliedG
Meh, more then likely "exclusive" means "delayed release dates" as I think £/$ will override any console/company adoration Ubisoft has.
Mushroom
Splinter Cell sucks anyway. I played the first one, and the control system sucked imo. It just felt jarring to try and do different things. *shrugs* so i don't care all that much about this. I do care that Ubisoft just delayed Haze again though. Which sucks.
The Hero of Time
You noobs, Splinter Cell is awesome. Well, the 1st and 3rd ones anyway. Its a real stealth game, far more so than MGS.

But this is Ubisoft being Ubisoft. It's like the whole deal with Assassins Creed and what have you. I think they've been taking lessons from Sony PR or something, lol.

that still supports my point, Splinter Cell may have been good for the first and third games, but now that its becoming a yearly series, the quality is going down as well which can clearly be seen in the quality of the last title and what this coming title appears to be. Meanwhile, on PS3, there is MGS, which may not be as realistic as Splinter Cell, but if anything, its been getting better over the years.

I honestly can't say I dislike the series because its a stealth game and its contrasts to MGS Lem, its purely the control system that really put me off, it just ddin't feel fluid enough for the style of play. It was the first one I played though, so maybe my expectations were just much higher since newer games seem to have these kind of things really nailed down and it had ben out a good 4 years when I played it. ^^

Your point isn't really supported since the new Splinter Cell seems to be going a completely different route than the others stylistically speaking it looks like a more polished modern day Assassins Creed. @PS3Fanboy the last Splinter Cell game came out in 2006 so how can it be a yearly series? There'll be around a two year gap since the last title. Plus the last title was developed by Ubisoft Shanghai(who also developed the second game) not Ubisoft Montreal who are the original and far better developers who are again working on Conviction.

I seem to remember arguing the same point about Call Of Duty 4, many people on these boards believed that was going to be crap based on judgements made via Call Of Duty 3 despite the fact that Call Of Duty 3 wasn't made by the original and again better team Infinity Ward, and I believe my point was proven accurate since COD4 turned out be one of the best games released last year after the new direction.

For the record I'd take Splinter Cell over MGS anyday.

What's the matter is your keyboard stuck?

Anyway, damn right I prefer my stealth and action games to have actual gameplay, instead of sitting there for half an hour waiting for the characters to stop babbling endlessly and aimlessly.
The Hero of Time
Really, they are very different types of games. Spinter Cell is a stealth game, through and through. MGS has much more to it. The presentation is also very different. For example Splinter Cell tries to be as realistic as possible, whereas MGS shows no embarassement about letting you know its a video game. ! over peoples heads and stuff.

Whilst I enjoy Splinter Cell a lot (the 1st and 3rd anyway) I think MGS is the superior product. It is kinda hard to compare since they are so different, but MGS has that extra coat of polish and attention to detail that few developers can match.

Personally in terms of polish especially last gen SC was light years ahead of MGS and most other games in the graphics department, I thought everything about MGS 3 was terrible, the graphics, the viewpoint and story. This gen looks like a different story though as far as graphics and presentation are concerned but I still wouldn't bother with it. I have always found MGS to be quite boring, for me it's the same as Ha
