This may be old news to some, but I just found out recently, myself. Apparently, the next addition to the Fatal Frame/Project Zero series will be on Nintendo's Wii, as opposed to the past three titles, which were all released on the PS2 (two of which were ported to the Xbox at later dates).

Next-Gen Fatal Frame
Popular horror series to continue on future consoles.
by Jeremy Dunham

July 28, 2005 - In a recent interview with Japanese website IT Games, Tecmo Games Producer Keisuke Kikuchi revealed that plans are already underway to continue the Fatal Frame series on the next generation of consoles.

Though he didn't specify which next-gen systems he was referring to, history points at a likely PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release -- as all three of the previous games began as PS2 titles while two of them were eventually ported to Xbox later on. The possibility that the next game could also appear on Revolution shouldn't be ruled out, either.

No other information regarding the next Fatal Frame was given, but we'll keep you updated should that change.

More recently (though still kind of old)...

Tecmo Planning Next Fatal Frame for Wii
Photo snappin' horror to get motion controls from No More Heroes developer.
By 1UP Staff, 09/25/2007

Tecmo has been silent about Fatal Frame for some time now, but that doesn't mean the horror franchise has been forgotten. To the contrary, 1UP learned at Tokyo Game Show that Tecmo's enlisted the help of Grasshopper Manufacture to produce the next Fatal Frame game. And here's the kicker: it's for Wii.

Grasshopper will start on Fatal Frame when work on No More Heroes, recently announced for a US release via Ubisoft, has finished. Given that No More Heroes was developed on Wii, Grasshopper seems content on Nintendo's console.

Taking photographs of ghouls has been a part of Fatal Frame since day one, so motion controls certainly make sense for the series, but the last we heard about the next Fatal Frame seemed to have Microsoft and Sony's consoles in mind. "I already have some ideas that I'd like to do if I had more development time and a more powerful system," said Fatal Frame 3 Producer Keisuke Kikuchi all the way back in July 2005.

Then again, in 2005, no one knew Wii was going to blow up, either.

More platform-jumping to piss me off. *sigh* I'm planning on eventually picking up a Wii, but it still upsets me that I'll have to buy a separate system for one of my usual favorites. I'm still hoping for a port to the PS3, but I can't say the Wii is a bad idea. As 1UP pointed out, it does make sense to use the Wii for such a game.

What do you think?

Edit: Title confirmed?

While I stopped playing the series after the first, I still collected them. So my sister plays them and I watch. Doesn't matter to me as to where it goes, but thinking of the cool ass features that can be included gets my interest. I am still hoping for a Wii release of "Deception". Now thats something to scream about. =P
E3 or sooner we should see this. I know since NMH is out Suda should've started this already..

as a fan of the series, I really think it could be very interesting....not sure what it exactly means by putting it on the wii...maybe more interractions with the environments? I think it would atleast be smoother use of the camera...we shall see what happens as more information comes out. I haven't gotten a playstation 3 yet because I cannot afford it...since my brother has a wii, I have no reason to complain about this as of now. I just anticipate learning more about this.

I learned about this from a fan site. III was a dissappointment...

Ok it wasn't. III was way too scary. II was like an inbetween that I could tolerate lol. I'm done with the series though.

Personally I’ll take anything that comes the Wii’s way. There aren’t too many games out for it right now that really interest me, but this one kind of does. I’ve never been heavy on the horror genre, but I haven’t tried this series out as of yet, so it might be worth the while. Anyway, I’ll probably start keeping an eye out for this game now, and see if it’s actually something I’ll end up caring about...

Whoa. Major update, courtesy of some findings over at Beyond the Camera's Lens:

Also, magazine scans: 1, 2

Certainly looking good, graphically. I'm a huge fan of the series, so I'm extremely interested to see how this is progressing, as well as how the end result will come out. "The Mask of the Lunar Eclipse"...

Here’s a little more info on the game. Not much, but I guess it tells a bit more on the story.

Fatal Frame Wii Story Details Surface
Three sisters and a camera on a haunted island? Sounds about right.
By Yoshi Sato, 05/28/2008

The latest issue of Famitsu has new details on Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse for the Wii.

The game is set in the mysterious Rougetsu Island, where five young girls of the Minazuki family were kidnapped in the past. Two of the girls later died, while the remaining three - Ruka, Misaki, and Madoka - have decided to visit the island in an attempt to remember what happened during that incident. The magazine reveals that players will take on the role of Ruka and venture around the mansion in the island, which is decorated with a number of masks. Looking at the previous games in the series, players switched between characters so there is still the possibility of both Misaki and Madoka becoming playable as well.

Gameplay will still revolve around players using cameras to eliminate ghosts and other bizarre creatures. No new details on how Wiimote controls might play into the new game were revealed.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is scheduled to hit stores this summer in Japan. A North American release has not been confirmed or dated, but we'll let you know the snap second that changes.

Apparently, I've missed a few updates over at good ol' Beyond the Camera's Lens. biggrin.gif

New Famitsu scans: 1, 2
I think I see the RE4 camera once more. Not sure how well that would work in Fatal Frame, but if that's really the way it'll be, I guess we'll see sooner or later.

Fatal Frame IV themesong?!
So much news in one day! YEESH.

This information comes from Tokura's blog (who is part of Otokura.com - Amano Tsukiko's music label). Tokura (her manager) tends to write out a lot of news about Amano too. His 5/28 entry reads:

"Announcement! According to the expectations of everyone, that tune (amano's newest song), will be the themesong of THAT game. Please wait for details."

Now, it's still not CONFIRMED....but there's only ONE GAME I know of that Amano Tsukiko has done themesongs for!!
I'm not really sure what song this is referring to, though. The most recent single I can seem to find by her is "Heaven's Gate", but I don't think that seems like something that would be in a Fatal Frame game. x.x; If I manage to find what song this update refers to, I'll try to post it in some form or other.

Also, a back cover/promo leaflet scan.

Aaannnd two more Famitsu scans: 3, 4

And for the last/most recent update, some info from a leaflet. (I think it's the same as that one I posted a few lines up in this post, but this has translated info.) There's some tasty info on the gameplay mechanics, as well as the story.
