As soon I popped in the DMC4 disc and did another update, few moments later and then....POW! Instant 3 sided Red Ring of Death enough to make me shout out "#####" out loud and start cursing god like usually do.

So I did what everyone what anyone would do and call customer service and instead, I got a dumbass who said "It's basically the AV cables that's causing it" and after the moving about between it and the TV....it was a simple ##### over from the get go.

So can anyone go out of a limb to help me out here?

you should just wise up, give microsoft the finger and join the real world and get a ps3 smile.gif

but seriously, i would call back the support and try to get another person on the line who might better help you, if need be ask for a manager or supervisor..
Rubedo
happy.gif Yea, now that's tempting me to trade it off for one.

But I'll try again after I have my dinner and thinking straight.

And then, problem solved. Couple of days until they send a box, then a couple of month to wait for them to fix it. Ain't it a drag?
The Evil Dead
You lose.

33% failure rate ftw.

If this happened to you during an update, it's likely that the problem is in your hard drive rather than the system itself. One of the suggested steps on Xbox.com is to remove your hard drive and try running a game without it. If it functions normally with the hard drive out, you just need a new drive.

But, if that wasn't the problem, it's probably your basic case of hardware failure. I had the issue with my last 360 before I got an Elite. Until I made the switch, I had a temporary solution, one you may want to try until you get your box to send it out if needed.

In order as follows -

  • Take out any discs and detach any accessories, including hard drive, memory cards (if any), AV cables, etc. etc. Only your power cord should be connected when you're finished.
  • Wrap the ENTIRE system in a thick towel or blanket, 2 if you're working with something thin.
  • With the system COMPLETELY wrapped so that NO air can circulate through any vents, turn the power on. Let the system run like that for a few minutes, 5 at most. You don't wanna overdo it, so stay near it to be sure it's not smoking or anything. When you're sure it's nice and toasty, unwrap it and turn it off.

Let it cool down for about 5-10 minutes.

Once you've done all that, reconnect everything and turn the power back on. This isn't BS either, and you'll find plenty of Youtube video tutorials of the same or similar methods. For some, this fixes the problem completely. Others, it gets their system going for another few weeks before it has to be done again. For others, it doesn't work at all. It varies from console to console. Not like you have much to lose anyway, right? =p

But, in the end, I'd suggest an Elite. I've had 0 problems with mine, and it runs great even for extended playtimes of 10+ hours occasionally, with no disc damage or disc read errors, let alone RROD. But anyway, hope that helps and good luck if it doesn't.
Rubedo
Nope, none of those work. Even tried it without the hard drive, the AV adaptor connected, and it's just a basic system breakdown since I doubt it could run DMC4 at it's current state. But I'll send it back since I'm not made outta money btw.

Oh, thanks for the vote of confidence TED..... dry.gif
The Evil Dead
I'm just glad to be a part of the 67% that own a working console.

Or well... It could still break down on me. cry.gif
Valince
See this is why mine continues to sit in it's box and be neglected for God knows now many more months.

yeah, luckily for me, after two years of owning my 360, nothing has happened. However, I'm expecting this to change, just because of the luck I seem to have.

That sucks though, I would recommend sending it in, personally, and not trading it in. As an owner of both PS3 and 360, I have to say that I prefer the 360 as it has more good games (it depends on your taste, to be honest, but as a fan of FPS, I like the 360). However, I do expect the PS3 to eventually pass the 360 eventually, people just need to give it time.

I know, it sounds stupid. But she didn't sound intellingent from where I was standing. But it's all in the bag...in the 2 months and 7 days.
LunarMaster
I suggest you call then back in a week and a half or two weeks and then ask for the status. Also let them know you need it back and they will probably just send you a new one (each time I sent my system in for repair I got a new system). If you don't pester them , it will take longer. Too bad because Lost Odessey is coming out next week and it looks like it's going to be a cool game.

its really sad that you have to go through a 20 step process laid out by JD to get your damn system to work.. HAHA GO MICROSOFT!!
The Evil Dead
If you're lucky Rubedo you won't have to go through numerous consoles. I remember going through 3 regular X-Box's.
Rubedo
Damn. Oh well, there's always defection on console loyalities...

lol I also said "temporary" fix. The old hardware is absolute trash, and I wasn't exactly problem-free until upgrading to an Elite. I did so back when GameStop had that deal with $250 towards an Elite when you trade in your original 360. Not sure what all's different inside, but I'll hope for everyone else's sake that they're making *all* newer models the same.
