*Death Note Spoilers*
There's a sequel to Death Note that takes place three years after the previous story ended. But it's a so called one-shot manga. If you don't know what it is then read on and you'll get it by the end of the chapter.

One thing I like is that Near shows his respect for Light, and wouln't want to compare the so called new Kira to him in any way.
And the chapter ended in an interesting way. I like how L's way of doing things was used as a way of stopping the new killer.

It's nice to see that Near has that sort of respect for Light/Kira. I liked that Light had a sort of respect for L, when he compared Near to him. Seeing Near surrounded by his towers constantly was humorous (especially when he considered his towers' well-being more important than the new Kira case, haha). It's also nifty to see how Near is so determined to follow in L's footsteps so closely.

I'm not entirely sure that I understand how it ended. The new "Kira" was just trying to challenge L, but since Near decided that he wasn't interested, the new Kira killed himself/herself? Did they just not feel worthy to follow in the previous Kira's footsteps?
I fail at figuring this kind of stuff out. ;_;
Athrun
Yeah I think that's basically what happened.
Unlike Light this new killer wasn't going after criminals. Perhaps it's because he didn't feel worthy of carrying on in the same footsteps as Kira, or he wanted to be 'good' and only killing those who wanted to die.
Near read him correctly after seeing what he did to those teenagers on tv. Apparently he wasn't much different than the emo kids on TV. You could see some action figures in his room which suggests that it was a teenager. He probably hated his own existance as well, and wanted to die, just like those teenagers and the old people. That's why he could relate to them so much that he decided to become that kind of saviour, who only takes the lives of those who want to die. But he found a purpose in becoming the new Kira and the saviour of those with a death wish. Unfortunately by hearing L' labeling him as uninteresting and an 'abominable murderer' he probably lost his last found purpose to live and killed himself.

Thanks a lot Athrun you just spoiled Death Note for me with that first scan. Now I have to go out and buy the last volume to find out what happens at the end.

Sorry, but there's a *Death Note Spoilers* alert tag in the topic title.

I guess apparently we can't have a topic to freely discuss the sequel, even though it mentions that it has spoiler alert tags in the topic title and mentions it takes place three years after, because people who don't want spoilers are for some reason opening a spoiler marked topic and and reading it anyway.

Was there a spoiler warning in the title of the thread? I didn't see one when I came in. I was just expecting to find out some general information about the sequel not the ending of Death Note.

Yeah there was. I added it to the start of my post now as well since you for some reason missed it. I wanted to have a discussion topic about the new chapter for us who have finished the series because we haven't had anything to discuss in a long time. But I guess we can't have that. Like Noir said, 'someone' will probably come in and read about a sequel in a spoiler marked topic and not expect spoilers.

But regarding general info, the MGS 2 trailers and info reveals that *someone* died at the end of the first game and lives on through an arm. The MGS4 trailer reveals that *someone* not only died, but had a child. The Advent Children trailers portrayed a certain flower girl as dead. Watch a movie trailer for a sequel like The Matrix or Pirates of the Caribbean and it's the same thing there. You don't read the posts in the Shippuuden topic and expect there won't be spoilers for the previous series do you?

But I at least made sure that nothing important was mentioned unless you scrolled down, and you could see right away that there was a link to the new chapter (which was also mentioned in the topic title) so people could discuss it.

Anyway, the spoiler tag should be enough. I just hope people see it. The extra spoiler tag in the opening post should help. But just the fact that it contains a chapter from the sequel should be enough warning in itself though. Most movie/videogame trailers don't even offer a spoiler warning.

After reading this, I am even more sure that Death Note is just the kind of thing that doesn't need a sequel. I mean seriously, that was just pointless.
Athrun
Yeah well without some of the original characters and with hardly any mysteries left it's hard to make a new and interesting plot I'm sure. But I thought it was nice to see Death Note again. And I noticed that this chapter was different from the special edition anime ending. I didn't really expect to see "that" Shinigami that was shown at the end of the anime special, because that's the anime and this is the manga. But a sequel that continues on what was shown at the end of the anime special might be interesting. Maybe...
Nash
Hmmm, I enjoyed Death Note and despised the lousy ending... but this is surprisingly satisfying.

Near blows anyway, so I'm glad he didn't get the chance to solve this sequel's mystery. biggrin.gif

Thanks!

Agreed, it was fairly pointless. The actual ending on the other hand was perfect unlike what Nash said, at least, that's what I think. I did like how Near respected his adversary as well as the one that he succeeded. I'd love to see a real sequel to Death Note, and it is very well possible. But, it was good to read some Death Note after watching the Anime. My favorite part was when Near had enormous towers at the end. Those were so cool XD
