It seems that Square-Enix has stated that FFXIII will not release in 2008, but that leaves analysts predicting it's release in 2010. That would be a great shame considering how many people are anticipating the game (including myself). This prediction , it seems, has also lowered the stock prices of Square-Enix.

People that were honestly expecting it in 2008 were hoping for a bit much to begin with.

I don't even care anymore to be honest. I'm a huge Squenix fanboy but I knew that production would take forever, and I doubt it will even be that good. The second I saw Shiva turn into a motorcycle my heart sank (or was that in the other one?).

I can't separate one from the other. It's hard to care enough, like you said.

Yeah, people who really thought it would come out this year is just dreaming. I'd say it will be released in Japan in late 2009 which means the U.S. gets it early 2010.

Which would mean Europe would get it for 2011. Thank god the PS3 is region free for games, not that it matters much to me since have a US PS3

I honestly was hoping for a 2008 release. It would really be nice if they can make it for this year. But if it's delayed, well, I'll be a little disappointed, but I know the delay is for the best.

its alittle disappointing but its not like we wont have tons of great RPG games to play until it comes out. And if it takes to 2010 to make this game amazing, then i can wait. Dont rush it, just make it good.

Just today (Feb 20th) that news came out, and it's not even from somebody affiliated with Square, it's Japanese analyists. And evidentiall they're basing it off very little fact.

4 days ago, on the 16th, Square's CEO claimed that there are hopes that it will come out in late 2008 or early 2009. I also heard that he's been mistaken or made a few false promises in the past, but bottom line is that neither source is incredibly reliable, so I'd say they cancel each other out.

My best guess??? 2009.

I personally predict late 2009, but as said before, if it takes until 2010 to make a quality game, then go for it, but if it does take that long, I'm kind of expecting something better than what the wait for XII brought (I really did like XII, but the story, the most important aspect of an RPG for me, just wasn't there). I have a bunch of games to keep me occupied until FFXIII though, so I'm prepared to wait.

I would also like to point out that XIII Versus looks better to me than XIII.

For a company which creates FFX-2 within such a short period of time, lol... I don't think an early spring. Maybe mid 2009 winter.

It's just an analysts prediction.
It might as well come out in 2009. But I didn't expect it until next year, at the earliest. And that's a good thing. I want them to take their time with this game until it's ready.

With Square Enix games, particularly Final Fantasy, there's generally some forum tool that misunderstands something from a blurry, half-scan of a Japanese magazine and goes around hyping up a "confirmed" release date. And then, people convince themselves that it's legit. Then, reality bites them in the ass and they're all like "Whoa, a delay!" when in fact there is no delay, because there was no release date.

Kinda easy to rush out games when the game engine they're ran on is already made.

What TED said. And it's not like they beautified the game by very much. Most places are copy and pasted. Sure, new characters and places are added, and the oh-so-interesting clothes sphere system too, but most of the basic stuff is there. I would be surprised if they took years to get FFX-2 out. And it isn't such a great game too.

Forgot how, but I've always thought that FFXIII was slated to be released sometime this year. Maybe I got mixed up (or screwed with) by the rumors. But I think FFXIII anytime during this year, next and 2010 is good enough. Any longer, I'll probably twitch a lot.

Didn't FFXII have many delays... I wouldn't be surprised if XIII suffers more of the same.

This isn't the PSX era where Squaresoft could easily churn out new FF title every year.

All I was thinking is that, FF had been always rushing due to gamer's demands. Though they took their time to make FFXII and it is still sort of a let down.

But maybe its in PS3 this time that the graphics might yet be better, more memory space for elaboration and plot.

Maybe due to the slight downfall of FFXII(slight, as I believe FFXII isn't as good as the usual ones), they might want to introduce something new and flashy to attract more players. But I still think classic ATB is good enough already lol.

I mean... Though Shiva might be nifty since she supports other elements instead of just ice and she's a bike now. But I liked her to be just Shiva the ice queen/goddess/summon/eidolon/guardian force Lol.

I do not have hard facts to back this up with, but hasn't Square said that they were aiming to release FFXIII this year?

Despite that, to go further to what bomb said, whether it is technically 'delayed' or not, I really do not find it so surprising that FFXIII is not coming out this year. If that were the case, I would be expecting much more publicity than what I have seen of it so far. But 2010 does seem a bit further than I thought it would be, not that I mind too much.

People were actually expecting it to come out this year? I just assumed it wouldn't be this year. 2010 seems about right to me, but I'm not on the development team and I have NO idea how far through development they are. Games take longer, especially RPGs with huge plots, because of voice acting. I thought that they were aiming to release a playable demo by the end of the year, but maybe even that is stretching it. The most I see of FFXIII, the less I'm starting to like it... not sure why. Maybe I'm just cynical.

Not like Final Fantasy XIII had a definite release date. I can wait for this game to be release since there's plenty of other games I can play until it's released.

Not that they can't still keep delaying it, but Dec. 8, 2008 seems to be the tentative release date. Sorry if you guys already heard/figured that out, but I felt like giving an update >.o.

Well you could pre order FF 12 in 2003, and it turned out to be released three years later, so until Square Enix announce the release date, I would take those pre orders with a grain of salt.

I was unaware you could have been able to pre-order FFXII that soon on Amazon. Usually I've seen them keep relatively close release dates, even if they do end up a little off. Alrighty. My mistake. =).

Actually it wasn't Amazon. Maybe they do keep closer to release dates than most other sites. I wouldn't know.
But I'm pretty sure Square haven't mentioned a release date yet though.

I think they're going for a simultaneous international release, like what they're aiming for with The Last Remnant. But with the tests running for the Crystal Tools engine between three games, and Squeenix's recent desire to take it multiplatform, 2010 seems reasonable enough to me.
