I personally never understood the huge hype behind Gears of War. Being a die hard Epic fanboy, I really felt let down by the shooter. The multiplayer seemed half assed and underdeveloped to me, and often times showed huge signs of imbalance in the game play in my opinion. That being said I felt it did have a strong, yet short, single player campaign that certainly warrented a buy, but not the hype, received.

I do however love the cover system, and believe every FPS/TPS should follow suit in making use of such an idea. It brings more of a depth to the genre.

However I am interested to see if Epic is going to step it up ( Knowing Epic, they will ) and what they're going to throw at us for GoW 2. I'd like to see a deeper multiplayer game with more players in the mix, and a much longer single player campaign. I'm sure the usual toss of more guns, grunts, and gore will be thrown into the mix as with any FPS sequel as well.

[left]In what could only be considered as good news for the
franchise's cult following, Microsoft and Epic Games have announced
their intention to give Gears of War another go. Despite only scraping by with a couple of million
units sold, Microsoft is determined to help the motley bunch of macho
marines break into the niche shooter market with an Xbox 360 sequel, Gears of War 2.

The game was officially announced by Epic's CliffyB during Microsoft's GDC keynote
entitled, "A Future Wide Open: Unleashing the Creative Commnunity ...
and then give them Chainsaws." The game will be coming exclusively to
the Xbox 360 in November, 2008. We'll bring you more information as
soon as we can get it.

It didn't live up to my expectations either and I probably won't pick this up straight away(if at all) but it does sh!t on "the 360 has no exclusive big sellers out this year" theories constantly spewed out by some members of this forum since the last one sold 4.5 million units. Even though that makes it at least two big exclusives if you count Silicon Knights' action RPG Too Human (which is the one I'm personally looking forward to), or even 3 big exclusives with Fable 2 it's all good news for the 360.

Here's a little teaser for those interested http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/games/g/gearsofwar2/announce.htm

Well it was always a question of when rather than if about Gears 2 being made. I remember reading an interveiw in Hyper mag with some big shot working on the orignal Gears before it was released saying they where alreay planning on making sequels, the first was more of rather large test subject Epic made to see how well the games would be recived by gamers.

Sounds like he was setting the ground work for excuses if the game tanked if you ask me...

But still, I enjoyed Gears, the good thing is, there's nothing to really add, simply make better. A longer campaign and larger multi games in Gears 2 would fix, really, the only things wrong with the first, right?

I've been waiting for this sucker to be annouced for awhile. I really enjoyed the first game and I still play multiplayer with a bunch of friends on Live. I just want Fenix's past revealed more than anything, and I hope they do it.

They showed some new features on the Unreal 3 Engine using GOW, and the technology looks awesome. The reason I'm posting it in this topic is because it will probably all be used in the Gears of War 2.

You talking about that Mova #####?

Yeah combined it looks amazing.

I enjoyed the original Gears, and am looking forward to Two. I hope they actually add a storyline this time. Though it seems like they will, because Dom can be heard mentioning Maria in the background. I just hope it doesn't turn into a cheeseball storyline. Like, Marcus' father created the Locust, and thats why he had the hidden lab with the tunnels in his basement.

hopefully they fixed the online play
it was so broken and bad, it was ridiculous

it was good on LAN tho

and the campaign was pretty sweet from what I played at my friends house
