Enjoy, kids. This seems like some pretty solid confirmation that it's coming out, but I'm holding my breath.

Online After being
endlessly rumored and then
sort-of-confirmed, we were pretty sure the currently-in-limbo XBLA version of
Goldeneye 007 would remain in hiding for quite a while (
questionable videos notwithstanding). Apparently not, as British mag
Xbox World 360 announced via its blog today that next Wednesday's issue will include the world's first hands-on impressions of the port.
The short announcement, which was slowly leaked via a
screenshot jigsaw puzzle throughout the week, promises "never-seen shots and hands-on details" about the game's differences, improvements, and information on how we can "make sure this incredible remake does see the light of day." That last bit is a little worrying to us, as it implies there's still a chance the game
won't see the light of day. What can we do to help? Circulate a petition? Protest at Rare headquarters? Sacrifice our pets to Satan? FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY TELL US!

A remade Goldeneye would be awesome indeed. I hope they make it available on all conoles since this is a classic from N64, but since it's Rare it might not happen, and that would be a shame. Would be cool to try Wii controls for it also.

After all the rumors and maybes I'll believe it when I see it. It would be awesome though this is something that needs to be released in a higher res. Screw Halo, Goldeneye was the first great console FPS.

That game alone would shoot the 360 sales upwards into the next galaxy. The question is, would the new generation of gamers be ready to accept this game if were to come out now?

Even though I don't have a 360 any longer... For 10 bucks or less I'd buy it.

I don't know if I would buy it. I mean, I liked Goldeneye for its time, I really did. But today it is nothing special compared to many FPS now, so if it is just getting a new gloss of paint then I can't say it would be enough for me to get it. I know this put me at a strange position, because I like generally like remakes of great games, but for some reason Goldeneye is not a game I would buy for name value alone.

I think many people would buy it for nostalgia. Besides online multilayer would rock. The only consoles it could be released on would be the 360 and Wii since Rare is owned by MS and since it was originally on the N64. From what I read Rare was ready to go, but Nintendo said "Hell No."

You know, I was writing a response before I realized that I might have been taking that statement the wrong way. I'm guessing that you mean Nintendo said "Hell no" in the sense that they would not all Rare to remake. Which only makes sense really.

I think my cousin has Goldeneye 007 for her N64, or whatever it was out on. If I recall correctly as to which game I’m thinking of, I actually played a little bit of it. It was pretty fun, and if this actually did get made I’d probably buy it (if not right away).

That's the best news I've heard all day.
Everyone will be jumping on this when it's released, and as long as they don't screw around with it too much, I'll be one of them.
Nice to see Rare doing something right for a change. Now we need a new Killer Instinct game and a decent Perfect Dark remake and we'll be set.

Right and I posted that here also from the same source. This is more current news. I personally still think it's up in the air but I'm keeping an eye out for more future updates.
Also I see this getting more than a coat of paint... I guess. I'm sure it'll run at 60 FPS and look stellar compared to the original. I doubt much will be added outside of online play, but either way it'd DEFINITELY be worth picking up. It'll put the 64 version to shame.

My cousin and I would kill each other endlessly in multiplayer. We would divide the split-screen with a TV tray or something so we couldn't see what the other was doing. Laying traps with proximity and remote mines made me happy. I would collect a bodyarmor power-up then put a proximity mine down where it was and a new bodyarmor would spawn on it; unsuspecting opponents would die and I would laugh, because it's funny.
If this comes to fruition I'll probably ##### buy it.

Well, at absolutely no surprise to me at all it looks like this was a bit of a false positive -

First off, GoldenEye 007 is not coming to the XBLA. We repeat, it is not releasing to the XBLA now or ever.

Well that's a shame. A remake for this game would indeed be awesome. And for Perfect Dark.

Not sure I'm too bothered about this. I mean, i don't know how others feel, but I don't think it holds up that well anymore. My room-mate has an N64 and we play Goldeneye and Perfect dark sometimes, and really, its just way to dated for me now. I can play old 2-D games no bother, but old 3-D games, from that kind of era, on N64 and Ps1, really annoy me now. I just see blocks and bad textures, and simply FPS' are so good now, I'd rather just play COD4. I know thats kinda lame, because old games have their palce, but its jsut that specific era i have no real love for anymore. Games slightly older than were still 2D? No probs. Games like newer fro mthe N64 and PS1 era with slightly better 3D? No probs. But not that, its just too offputting for me. And if we're talking remake, they may as well totally revamp it, imo.
Thats jsut me though, people obviously still love the game.

Well it's nice to hear " Never " finally instead of it going back and forth as much as it has.

**sheds a tear for Perfect Dark** It was a crying shame that the sequel for the BEST single-player shooter (I thought it was better than goldeneye... execpt for the fact that the N64 was not good enough to efficiently play it. I mean, throwing in 16 meatsims with rocket launchers.... now THAT'S FUN.) had to be a debut game on X-box 360. Such a sad sad thing. Shame on you Rare for selling out to la ramera de toda la tierra.
I would, however, love to see a new Killer Instinct. Besides Soul Calibur, it's my favorite fighting game.
