Um. Yeah. Portraits. Just done using photos of the people (friends of mine, of course) for reference.

Portraits

Sara 1 (Reference)
2005. First portrait I ever did. I still say this came out looking like garbage, though others seem to like it, including Sara herself, so I guess it can't be too bad. *shrug* The scan doesn't exactly do it much justice, since much of the lighter shading didn't come through well... Whatever.
Did this as... well, sort of just a random thing. Just thought to draw her one night. Gave it to her at some point, whenever I got the chance to show/give her it.

Mercedes (Reference)
2005. Second portrait. Um... Didn't quite get the look in the eyes that is present in the original photo, which was a bit disappointing, though I don't think I did too bad. Glasses drawn at a weird angle, part of the lips is weird... I like how the shading for the skin came out in this one. She has darker skin than the friends in the other portraits, so I guess that's why the shading worked out better for this one. I've gotten some criticism on how the hair is shaded, though honestly, I guess I was just being lazy with it. Dark hair + light = too much shading for me. >.O ...I dunno. I still don't think it looks bad, but you tell me.
Did this one as a sort of "Hey, I should do one of her, too" thing. Had met her online not too long beforehand, quickly formed a pretty strong friendship, so I figured a portrait was called for. Eventually framed it and shipped it to her as a present of sorts.

Sara 2 (Reference)
2006. Third portrait; second one of Sara. Admittedly, this was somewhat half-assed. (Especially the hair and lower portion.) Despite some obvious flaws, though, I just like this one. I guess it's probably the eye. It's a bit unrealistic, I guess, but I just like how it looks.
Eh, story behind this one... Honestly, I just missed her (drew it during the summer she moved), and couldn't quite sleep over it. sleep.gif So I wound up getting out of bed and drawing this. Eventually mailed it to her.

Tess (Reference not shared, by personal request.)
2007. Honestly, I'm really not fond of how this came out. ;_; Tess seems to like it, though, so I guess it's better than I consider it. *shrug* Oh, to explain the cat ears, they were part of her Halloween costume. (She also had face-paint whiskers, but I didn't feel like drawing them in.) Anyway, I guess one thing I like about this one is the absence (more or less) of bold outlines where they're not needed... or however I should word that. >.O It was something that came up often in criticism, so I was trying to lay off the outlines for this one.
Somewhat of a random portrait/drawing. Just suddenly felt like drawing her, I guess. I think I drew it over winter break or something, so I gave it to her when we got back into school.

Lisa (Reference not shared, by personal request.)
2007. With the exception of one thing, I'm actually almost entirely satisfied with this one. (That one thing is the fact that I made her breasts enormous. Ugh. Somehow, I hadn't noticed until sometime after finishing it.) Like with Tess', I tried to lay off the bold outlines when they weren't needed. Lisa's got a skin tone comparable to Mercedes' (probably a bit lighter), so again, the shading worked out pretty well for this one, and most of it was picked up by the scanner. (If you hadn't noticed, though, I had to adjust the brightness/contrast a bit to get the shading to look better in the scan.) Overall, I just think I did a better job with most of this portrait than I did with others. I guess that's good since it's the last one I did to date. Hah.
The story for this one is basically just that I had been meaning to draw a portrait of her for quite a while, but never really got around to it, for various reasons. With the end of our senior year in high school drawing near, I decided I needed to get it done. Somehow, I managed to squeeze the project into the last 2-3 days of classes, and I handed it to her on the last day. Haha. She seemed to like it, so I'm glad.

I can't help but wonder how long my friends will actually bother to hold onto these. Haha. ^^; Would be a shame if they eventually just get thrown out or something, but I just don't feel right keeping them to myself, so I gave them all to their respective... references.
At the moment, this is pretty much it for portraits. I kind of doubt I'll do anymore (at least not anytime soon), but who knows. If I ever do, I'm sure I'll post it. In any case, I think this will be pretty much the end of my "bundle" series, since it's just about everything I consider worth sharing. I might have some other stuff on deviantART, but otherwise, if I eventually do anything else worth sharing, I'll be sure to post some of it.
Dragon Brigade
I think I like the one of Mercedes the best. You managed some contrast with the hair that is rather nice. I think the overall portrait + blending is the best in that one as well. The first Sara and Lisa (her visage) are nicely done too. The shading + contrasting isn’t as big in them as with Mercedes, but I thought they were well done as well.

You generally seem do best with just the faces of people (real or anime), instead of whole bodies. Really good work on all of these, though =).
