Nintendo DS,
Strategy As soon as NIS America began showing signs of affection,
albeit casual, for Nintendo's touchable portable, hopes began to rise for the company's popular turn-based strategy series
Disgaea to make the leap to the small screen. Now,
according to CVG (and a crack translation team at
AkaYuki), the company's Japanese arm has revealed plans to bring the franchise to the Nintendo DS in the Land of the Rising Fun.
The report, pulled from the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu, calls the game
Disgaea: Prince of the Demon World. While little else has been revealed, the title alone suggests that the game stands a good chance of being a port of the original
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, which centered on Laharl, the Prince of the game's demon-infested anime hell. If true, this would be disappointing, given that it would mark the third pass at the material following last year's remake for the PSP. Then again, maybe being able to
physically touch co-star Etna will be enough to inspire another visit to the Netherworld.

Definitely something for me to look forward to. I have not played any of the previous installments for whatever system, but this’ll be something I’d be interested in. However, if it’s just another port, that would kind of disappoint me. I’d like something on my DS (as far as rpgs) that isn’t just a remake, but a new game. Oh well. Either way, I guess I’ll be looking forward to this (just more excited as long as it’s...new >.o.).
Another Disgaea port? I'm down with that!

Still, another port of the same game? Only people who really loved the game might considering buying the same game for a third time. Still, maybe they'll add and change enough features from the original to make the DS port interesting. That's if this is Disgaea PS2 port.

Meh, I never played the PSP version, so I would not care if it was just another port of the same game or not. Graphically, it was nothing too impressive, so while it probably will not look as good as the PS2 or PSP version, it will probably look good enough. I would not mind playing this game on the run, since it was a fun one to play. If anything, I'm guessing DS users will not get the Etna story or any other Easter eggs on the PSP.

More Disgaea is always welcome. NIS has been pumping out solid RPGs for Sony, something they should have no problem duplicating for the DS. I just hope it's not another port of the original. A third rehash would just seem redundant.

Nope, Disgaea DS is a port of the PSP version of Disgaea. You will get access to Etna story and likely the other features added in the PSP version of Disgaea.

Nippon Ichi Software has announced some new details regarding the DS remake of its popular strategy RPG Disgaea. The game's newest iteration will be based on last year's Makai Senki Disgaea Portable Tsuushin Taisen hajimemashita for PlayStation Portable. Pleinair, Disgaea 2's Adell and Rozalin as well as Makai Kingdom's Zetta will all be playable in the DS version.
Makai Senki Disgaea: Makai no Ouji to Akai Tsuki will be available in Japan on June 26th for 4,800 yen ($45.73 USD). NIS America will publish an English version of the game in the US sometime this summer.
This will be the first time Pleinair will be playable to my knowledge.
I love the fact that Adell, Rozalin and Zetta will be playable. Not sure how you're suppose to use Zetta. He's a book with no type of movement. I do hope they add audio for at least these three characters. It was disappointing that neither of them had audio battle lines in PSP version. Zetta Beam lose it's impact without Zetta's laugh.

Been looking forward to this ever since it was announced. I never did play Disgaea much back on the PSP, so I will make amends by playing this to death once I have it.
As stated above it will bea port of the PSP version, but there will be other things added that the PS2 and PSP versions do not have. The bad news is the graphics will be scaled down a tiny bit, but it still looks good.
More information on this great game.

One of the (many) unique features of Disgaea is its GeoEffect system. Battles are set in isometric areas divided into tiles. Some of the land is shaded in different colors, called GeoPanels. Also scattered around the map are GeoSymbols, which are imbued with their own battle-altering effects. They might give a boost to defense/offense, teleport a character, or slowly drain hit points. When a GeoSymbol is placed inside a Panel, any character inside that area will be affected. The system creates many layers of strategy in battle.
For the DS version, the bottom screen gives a zoomed-in view of your selected character, while the top screen provides a bird's-eye view of the action. Players can choose to play with the stylus, making selections on the touch screen, or the entire game can be played with buttons in a more traditional manner.
One of the features that were added to the PSP game was a hidden cast of characters from other Nippon Ichi games that could be unlocked and fought. These secret characters have been retained for Disgaea DS, only now they can be recruited into the player's party. There is also a new hidden character named Preneire who can join your group, as well.(
Awesome!!)
The flow of gameplay alternates between a cut scene that delivers exposition, then an epic battle scene. For this version, some extra commentary has been added on the top screen while cut scenes unfold below. The world of Disgaea is populated by Prinnies, which are kind of the servants of the Netherworld. They're kind of like sassy, explosive, stuffed penguins. During cut scenes, a Prinny will show up on the top screen to provide colorful commentary on the story and characters.

I'm probably the only one that finds it funny that they have to slim down the graphics. >_>

Is this stateside yet guys? I staretd playing it again for the PS2 in anticipation of PB, and man is this an excellent game. I'd forgot just how deep it is. I'm pretty stupid for starting a new game when I'll probably get it for the DS if its/when its out but meh. I just got to that map in chapter 5 where you can do your first bit of proper levels ^^

Alright, I have the Japanese version in my hands and everything looks as it should be but in a compressed and non slick sort of way. The voice overs seem crisp enough so there's no worry there. Quite a nice little port, but the only problem I have encountered so far is in the battles, moving about is hard work using the D-Pad as it does not feel good moving as say FFT: A2. The stylus is okay, but you have to move around using the D-Pad and click on enemies using the Stylus.
I am liking what I see so far, and when I have the English version it will be better as I can see the menus and hear the voice overs properly.

No one played this yet? I love it, but the game does not have the voice acting for the cutscenes with each boss. Oh well.
Does anyone have any tips for leveling up, getting better weapons or any hints for the game?

How different is this from the other Disgaea versions?
I'm not a big fan of grindfest, so the 9999 max level doesn't really interest me. Do you need that big a figure to get through the main plot and complete everything?

To complete everything, well, you will have to level whore like no tomorrow.
But if it is like the Playstation version, you could get through the main plot without hitting 100. Probably in the 70's actually.

Item World is your best friend.
If you want more experience, mana, weapon experience or HL, you need collect more innocents inside items. Those will speed up the process.

You don't need to level up. There's tricks to complete every thing. I wasn't even at level 4000 when I defeated Bael. You just need to collect enough innocents and transmigrate enough and level up equipment enough.

Sounds good, but I have not really used the item world much. Whats this Prinny Land and cave of ordeals or something about?
