Square Enix has announced in this week's issue of Jump magazine that they are to release Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One for the Nintendo DS.
First details are coming in saying that Tri-Ace are the team that's developing it, which means this might be the "unannounced" title we've seen on their promotional DVD. It is being designed by Kou Yoshinari and You Yoshinari. More info:
· You don't play as a Valkyrie, you don't even play as a female.
· The main character is a young soldier with silver hair who hates the Valkyries from past experience.
· He is determined to fight against the gods using the "feather that leads to victory" given to him by Heru from the underworld.
· Everytime he uses the power of the wing, it turns darker.
· Ansel is close friend of Wilfred.
· Elise is a mysterious girl from the underworld that seeks to help Wilfred.
· The game doesn't look like it's in Profile, it's isometric instead.
· The theme of the game is "Vengence on the Gods".
First images from the magazine have surfaced online.

Well, this bit of news was certainly unexpected. I do like the fact that the art direction is very similar to the first game. I am guessing that the "field" will be more of the conventional RPG type instead of their 2D side scrawling dungeons, which I happened to like, and I personally think it could have worked just well for the DS. Oh well. I wonder how much of this will fit into the main story of the Valkyrie series though. Is all of this taking place before the events of Valkyrie Profile 2 (if that is anyway possible)? Will this game take into account about what happened in the second game? Can we just pretend that the last chapter of the second game never happened?

Give me Valkyrie Profile 3: Ahly/Hrist already.

A male lead in a Valkyrie game looks promising though.

WOO WHOO this will be the first VP I'll miss out on!
Looks like I'll need a DS and a PSP.

I can't wait!

I hope it remain a 2D side scrawling. I'm interested in finding out if the game will bring the return of Valkyrie Profile battle system. That would be great!

This is exciting. Unfortunately, I haven’t actually played either of the previous two (though I intend to). It might be beneficial for me to wait until I’ve played 1/2, but in the end I’ll probably just get this one anyway before I’ve played the first two. Should be fun. =).

Thought they'd go for the PSP for sure, after Lenneth port, but alas?

Good news for DS owners. If Lenneth was any indication, VP's likely to take off nicely in handheld form once more. Portable good times all around.

Hopefully it plays like a Valkyrie Profile game and dosn't do the genre-staying thing. I love SRPGs, but I don't want this to be one of them.

Actually, I would not mind so much if spin-off game of the series was a SRPG or not. I have a hard time believing that this game will have a heavy impact on what goes on in the next major Valkryie Profile installment. (Other than cameo appearences and what not.)

Sweet! Thanks for the scan bomb. =)
Y Halo thar Lenneth~! lol Well I hope there is still a chance for Hrist to play a huge part in the game, ah well who knows maybe this guy was Lezard's past life before he was reincarnated in the future. xD

Sweet news. I've passed on the other installments previously, just out of a lack of interest, but I may hceck this out if they make some good use of the stylus etc. The more rpgs on the DS the better.

I wouldn't mind myself. Though, I would like if Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One played like Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. Still, The Accused One a spin-off of the series, I do not mind if the game used a different battle system. It would be difficult to call Einjerhar to battle when the main character not a Valkyrie.
Nice scan, Bomb. I see FMV will be present and Lenneth, likely the other sisters, should play a major role in the game. I would if they'll be the main antagonist in the game or will it be Odin? I patiently wait for my information in the future.

YAY! I wasn't expecting this. I thought the story had been nicely tied up in Silmeria, but oh well, the more games the better! Looking forward to it! Hopefully, there might be some multiplayer features. I spent so much time levelling up my characters in Valkyrie Profile 1+2 until they were absolute god-modders, it would have been brilliant to fight other players with them!

I'm still curious about when in the timeline this takes place, or if it takes place along the same timeline at all, even.
Despite not planning to own a DS anytime particularly soon (still no job, I'm afraid), I'm nevertheless interested to see how this game is. I can definitely see VP making a nice SRPG. I was introduced to the series with VP2, which I loved, and I've played a bit of the first... All enough to make me safely say I'm a VP fan now. I love the whole Norse mythology setting, and many of the games' features have been pretty appealing to me so.
On somewhat of a side note, judging by the BGM on this VP:TAO site, the music definitely sounds nice. I think I hear a remix or two from the first game, as well. (Assuming these pieces aren't just taken from Lenneth, that is.)

kjekjgmdhe!!! Man I can't wait. Hopefully they don't go the RTS route like they did with FFXII ::shudder:: But I don't think I could resist picking this up if god came down and told me it sucked butt.

Goddamnit.
I really don't want a handheld with a stylus... Especially one by Nintendo.
But if they keep putting out these RPG's I will have to give in. =/

That's awesome.
I have to admit though I'm a big fan of the DS. It's putting out some quality RPGs lately and the future line up looks great too FFIV, DQ and now a Valkyrie Profile game. I also can't wait to find out what the Xenogears/saga team is working on for it. The PSP and DS really do have some cracking RPGs so far.
Another genre I'm really enjoying on the DS is the graphic adventure I love these sorts of games and the stylus is perfect for it. I really wish Lucas Arts would re-release the Monkey Island series on it though, either that or do some new ones. There was talk of an old school Broken Sword being done for the DS too with same 2D engine as the original two I hope that hasn't fell through - sorry I was going off the beaten track then.
