I have just recently started messing around in flash and Im definitely not as well off in flash as I am in photoshop but I have always been interested in creating my own flash games. Ive started out with the basics learning how to design levels using arrays (the basic platform game), messing around with gravity, movement such as jumping, etc.

The racing game is better IMO because theres nothing much more to it other than the fact that I should add AI. The car was drawn by me as well as the track but the timer itself was not created by me. I tried working with shadows and other various stuff such as collision.

The platform game is made out of nothing but squares. It was pretty much an introduction to coding an actual game. The images themselves, such as the purple block which resembles the "player", can always be edited and replaced for a more graphically enhanced game.

I do understand that both of these games are pretty much ##### compared to what is on the internet today, but Im just learning. As I found out, games do take a lot of time when you actually want to make them look pretty. Hopefully I will progress with this and make a game that is actually worth playing.

So I was playing the box game and was jumping around the top places.

Then I decided to jump off and hit a wall, then I fell off the screen.

Fix bug plz.

EDIT: Sorry, investigated a bit more into it.

If you walk over to the 4 white line on the floor and jump, you fall right through.

Fix bug plz.

EDIT2: New bug. Walk over to the first place you can jump to. then jump up into the white line from below, and be taken straight up forever and ever.

Fix bug plz.

Go fall in a hole, Kevin.

Nice stuff. Are you coding it in AS2 or AS3? Jumping can be a real hassle. Applying gravity can make some interesting effects when it goes wrong (there are a couple of bugs in your current sample). Have you tried a tile based system? It looks like you're using a physics based engine. I did a puzzle game that used a 2D array for the tiles. I learned more about puzzle games then I would have ever wanted, but it was a fun as hell learning experience. I've recently started learning 3D programming in flash, but it still has a way to go before it becomes powerfull to be used for full blown 3D games ( Flash needs DirectX support pronto). If you ever get stuck post about it. I've been coding in AS for quite sometime.

I added you on AIM. I was actually going to contact you about it after looking at your website and the games that you had on there. I'm currently short on time, but that's for the offer of your help. If I ever get the time and I'm actually on the same time as you, maybe we can work something out. I'm interested in learning, it's just time consuming.

By the way, I think the coding is in AS2. huh.gif
